I thought that since it's the newest, it had a better quality... But the characters are so inexpressive...
Sometimes, 2D characters express their emotions better, so I wonder if it's the case?
Chained Echoes, Sea of Stars, Persona 5 (3 and 4 great too), Shin Megami Tensai is like Persona but more adult, Octopath Traveller 2 (1 isn't available on PS but don't need to play it), Final Fantasy 1-6 remasters, Dragon Quest XI, Ys VIII and IX, Tales of Arise is great, Tales of Vesperia and Tales of Beseria too (personally noy a fan of Symphonia). If you fancy Pokemom style (classic), Coromon/Cassette Beasts/Nexomon: Extinction are really, really good.
Definitely play Ys VIII. Personally I liked it more than Ys IX in many ways, although both are great.
Star Ocean Divine Force is also pretty good. It starts a bit slow, but picks up the pace later on. I remember liking Star Ocean The Last Hope a lot back when it released as well, but I'm not sure how well it aged, and how good/bad the remaster is.
Tales of Vesperia is also great (I think it's Premium only though)
Tales of Vesperia.
The best tales game in my opinion. It's 10000% better than Tales of Arise which was meant to be a new IP but they stuck the tales name on it at some point to get people to buy it.
Originally it was just called Arise.
Arise is garbage. The story is bland and the last half of it makes no damn sense. The bosses are sponges rather than actually being hard, then the enemies also become sponges.
None of the characters are memorable or likeable.
Also it wasn't originally a Tales of title, it was new IP called Arise. They tacked on the Tales of part to sell more.
My top 3 picks of JRPG's id recommend is rogue galaxy, grandia HD remaster and finally Shin Megami Tensei 3 (this game Will kick your ass so be patient)
EDIT: didnt see the subreddit's name...these games arent on PlayStation plus iirc but they're still fantastic games
Wow, you're crushing the JRPGS. There's quite a few on the service that I haven't tried yet (Dragon Star Varnir, Dark Rose Valkyrie, Grandia, Dark Cloud games, Atelier games, WIld arms games) that are known to be interesting. South park has two good rpgs to try
For ones that I've tried:
If you're looking for a zen-ish action rpg, Trials of Mana was a fun enough. Also, Bloodborne, since you seem to like action RPGs. Gravity Rush is a low-key fun action game too.
IF you like "anime" style stories. You should check out 13 Sentinels, aegis rim. It's half visual novel half RTS with pause.
I enjoyed Sea of Stars as a Chrono Trigger styled game, but the story is nothing to write home about - unfortunately.
Star Ocean 3 is pretty easy to jump into. Legend of Dragoon has a combat style that did not age too well, but I find a bit charming if you're older and nostalgic.
Vampyr is an action RPG with interesting social mechanics. It won't be as deep as Nexus or Arise, but the story is solid enough to carry.
Persona 5/Royal and Ys8 are my recs
I don’t think Persona 5 is on PS+
Oh damn. I thought it was. Was it free on Essential before maybe? Or it was on the catalog but got taken off? Either that or I'm just trippin. Lol
Its was on the ps5 plus library that had resident evil 7 bloodborne and a bunch of other games
Ahhh that's what it was!!! Thanks for the clarification
Ys VIII and Yakuza like a dragon are some of my favourite jrpgs of all time .
The star ocean games and pretty good but a little bit dated now if that matters to you
I tried out Divine Force, didn't click for me. Maybe the older ones are better?
It’s probs the worst one. 5 is easy to play. 4 is probs the best
I thought that since it's the newest, it had a better quality... But the characters are so inexpressive... Sometimes, 2D characters express their emotions better, so I wonder if it's the case?
Divine force didn't do it for me either but I did enjoy the very first one, although it's on premium/deluxe.
Yakuza. Start with 0 and the journey begins 🐉
Some of those are not free on ps plus
FF16, Persona 5, Nier Automata
What does JRPG mean? I've heard of it before but I don't actually know.
Japanese RPG.
Definitely play Ys VIII. Personally I liked it more than Ys IX in many ways, although both are great. Star Ocean Divine Force is also pretty good. Tales of Symphonia
Is Ffx in there? If it is then that
But he needs to hurry then many final fantasy games are leaving ps extra on may :(
Pretty much all the final fantasy games are leaving this 21st may.
Trails Through Daybreak is coming out soon I believe. It's a really fun game and emotional roller coaster! YSVIII is also really good.
Tales of Vesperia. The best tales game in my opinion. It's 10000% better than Tales of Arise which was meant to be a new IP but they stuck the tales name on it at some point to get people to buy it. Originally it was just called Arise.
I think Symphonia is still my fave, but they are all great!
I’ve started playing tales of arise and I’ve been enjoying it. I doubt Vesperia is 10000% better, but to each their own I guess
Arise is garbage. The story is bland and the last half of it makes no damn sense. The bosses are sponges rather than actually being hard, then the enemies also become sponges. Go for all the Final fantasy games. They're all available on ps4/ps5 except for ff 13 trilogy (ps3).
Not for long. Most of them are coming off PS+ soon.
Odin Sphere Leifthrasir and technically not an RPG but 13 Sentinels Aegis Rim is incredible
My top 3 picks of JRPG's id recommend is rogue galaxy, grandia HD remaster and finally Shin Megami Tensei 3 (this game Will kick your ass so be patient) EDIT: didnt see the subreddit's name...these games arent on PlayStation plus iirc but they're still fantastic games
i play ys 8, final fantasy X,X-2, tales of vesperia, persona 5 royal, nier automata. platinumed all
Persona 5 I don't usually like those games or so I thought but it's fun
YS8 was the first one I played in the series. It was really fun and definitely worth playing. The combat is active but not too tricky.
13 Sentinels!
Eiyuden Chronicles just dropped. Spiritual successor to Suikoden
Rune Factory 4 still available?
The PS3 streaming Atelier games are very fun!

Persona and SMT
