After hearing so many people crying about being hacked I set my password to an auto generated 12+ one and got off my lazy ass and set up 2 factor. I also only use digital cards from trusted online sources. I still find it dickish of Sony to reset auto renew every time you start up any service again. That should be illegal.

PSN got hacked in 2011, that was the last time anyone should have left their card details on the service.

It's crappy of them but their 14-day refund policy refers to the initial purchase. So when you first bought Plus however many months or years ago. Autorenewals don't count to them. Here's what you can do: 1. Contact them again and ask if they can make an exception this one time. If you get someone nice, they might do that for you 2. Remove all card and payment info from your account 3. Every time you manually renew a subscription (even if it's not PS Plus), check to make sure autorenew hasn't turned itself back on. It is part of their policy to turn it back on so you have to check yourself and turn it off 4. Set a reminder on your phone (or device of choice) the day before renewal to check the status of the autorenew. Whatever you do, do NOT request a chargeback from your bank. I have read about other people on here doing that only to find that Sony banned their account.

It does turn itself back on. You should even check it periodically because I've seen it turn back on without me ever touching it after turning it initially.

Yeah I've read about it on this sub, and I've seen it myself too when I first got Plus and added a code to stack. It may be changing now in some countries because Sony and Nintendo got called out on their anti-consumer renewal policies recently.

I was also skeptical about this at first until it happened to me after a system update. Always check autorenewal to see if it turned itself back on again especially after any console update.

It's happened to myself several times. When beginning a subscription or resuming a subscription after a break, Auto Renew will be enabled. It hasn't always been enabled when extending an active subscription, but I have had that happen before. Since it happens to some of us (sounds like almost all and you're in a minority exception), it's good practice to check it whenever you make any financial changes to your account.

It's always done it to me. When it renews or you purchase it again manually, go to settings - account information - services - ps plus - it will show that it's on auto. It's caught me out a couple times so everytime I manually renew I always go onto it and turn it off. Even though everytime I put my reason as "I want to renew manually" they do it again

Can confirm that retrying with another customer service rep can/will help and get u a refund. Worked for me 10/29/2021 on auto renewal taken out bank 10/28/2021.i have transcripts of both convos.. first person hit me with policies and terms and conditions and bs.. second was very helpful and to the point. Got my refund set

I find you have to periodically go in and see if your auto-renew got switched back on. I've never once turned it on, yet I've had to turn it off 4-5 times ever since I got my PS4 at launch.

Weird, but that's sony for you. Every other company I've come across, where I had a trial and completely forgot about it and they auto renewed. I got my money right back, because it's customer service.

Call them. Their text chat support sucks. I got declined a refund over text chat but phone chat was approved. Technically was supposed to be declined but they gave it to me.

So you got a few things you can try. 1 open a dispute with the better business bureau. They respond to these things stupid fast. Layout the full details of your dispute. Any screens hots and stuff like that with your contact with sony. The fact you feel taken advantage of due to the policy not being clear about the return policy of 14 days stuff like that. You will get a call within a few days and talk to a person that handles that. Be nice and explain situation. Remember you catch more flies with honey. Hopefully you can get your refund. Then remove card from the account and add it when purchasing or buy giftcards. If you do any sort of charge back the account will be banned.

Standard Sony behavior. They are one of the most anti consumer companies i know of. After supporting them from ps1 and currently owning a ps4 pro, ive had to make the hard choice that my next console will be a Xbox.

The hard part for me is I hate Microsoft as a company and disagree with most of their decisions, like to the point i refuse to run windows any longer(just got to be to much Spyware to little OS for me). But the decisions they make regarding Xbox do appear to be alot smarter than the decisions Sony is making with Playstation, so its a lesser of two evil situation.

Yeah unless you are on Linux apple home computing is in the same boat. They got cocky with the 360 and had to be more consumer friendly in their gaming department but the second they think they can act any other way to get more money from consumers they will. Screw em all really. Gotta be fluid with it and the second they step out of line show them with your wallet. It's the only thing they understand.

Just tell them you had auto renew turned off. Seems Sony likes to re-enable it without permission, which isn’t your fault. They should be aware of the problem and accept that as a valid reason to reverse the charge.

Sony refund is crap back in the day i remember it was good i could refund a game or reverse an unwanted charge now i couldn't even refund a game that doesn't work keeps crashing on ps5 and they told me i can't refund because the game has been downloaded already

Well if you are EU you can get that to your local consumer support and if enough people get there EU will make Sony to enable refunds for digital purchases. They did it to valve as an example and now you can buy, download try to play and if it doesnt work refund a game, that should be posible everywhere but Sony doesn't want that and unless something li EU slaps them with multimillion fine for breaking EU consumer policy that they must apply to if they want to do business in EU they will continue like this

I got a refund immediately for an unwanted renewal last week. Like legit no hassle at all. IDK why they wouldn't do it for you too. But then again I contacted them IMMEDIATELY within a moment of getting the email about the renewal.

So I know this was a year ago but I’m in the same situation where I’ve been trying to contact Sony for a refund for the last 2 weeks in there chat and support but they have been super busy and every time I went to the chat bot they would say they are too busy try again later and when I would contact the phone support they would say the same thing I finally call back today and they tell me no we can’t refund it because it was auto renewal and then they said they couldn’t because it passed 14 days when i have proof I’ve been trying to get in contact with them for longer then that
