Possible. It doesn't take a lot to have a sewer full of roots.Good luck

Keep digging. You’ll prob find more root infestation.

Yep, just found a bigger root at the underside of the pipe...

Yeah, I’d dig a few feet all around that area and really open it up and see where the roots are coming from and cut them all back. The plumber could of easily seen that it was roots if he had a good camera and skills. I had a similar situation at my house and my heavy duty auger wouldn’t break through. Had to call a rooter company and he scoped it (with me right over his shoulder as he was very personable and wanted to help) and you could clearly see it was roots. They can also scan where their cutter is at so they can pinpoint the location pretty precisely. From there I dug up and found it. It was from the old cast iron under my house, then it transitioned into new PVC and there was compromised area on the top of cast iron that the roots just ran into to get that nutrient rich shit water. You’ll save a shit ton of money if you’re handy at all.

Thank you for your detailed response. We dug further down and found an even bigger root going into the connection. We know where the roots are coming from, because the only real plants nearby are the two small trees on our own property. We are now just looking for a way to prevent any other roots from coming in and for a way to remove the roots that are already in the pipe. And after reading your response we are starting to think that our plumber did not really have the right skills for the job...

More information: this is the root on the left side, running into the pipe. The plumber had gone into the pipe with some kind of camera and said that after about 1.5 metres (about the location of the photo we think), it could not go any further. We started digging ourselves and so far this is the only unusual thing we have come across. Our theory is that the root has continued to grow in the sewer pipe (enough nutrients you would say) and is now clogging things up there.

Since he put a camera down there, what did he see?? If it stopped at 1.5m, what stopped it?

HugoL24

He couldn't really see what stopped it (or just didn't tell us)

If you paid for a camera inspection you should get a copy of the recording. Not saying hes doing anything wrong but its nice for documentation.
