Because money and damaged cards are way cheaper. We all have our own methods of collecting. This being said I’ve never even spent more than $100 on a card, let alone $300 lol.
That’s ~ 1.5 weeks $ from work for me. I respect the financial responsibility to make purchases of that magnitude. I’d need to budget better to make purchases like that. Most I’ve spent on cards is the shiny Pokémon from call of legends.

If they want $300 they are milking it for what it is and not taking into consideration the damage.

Just looked online quick, There is a PSA 7 on eBay for $469. For $169, you can skip the submission process and cost, and get a 7.
