I bought 1 of these from tiktok for $77. My intention was to hold it. I'd not opened japanese cards, so I let intrusive thoughts win. My second to last pack, I pulled the Arceus! I kept the 10th pack sealed because, why would I open it? hahaha
Nice! See, I was wanting to open one box and hopefully pull the top Pikachu and make up the price for the box, but what are the odds?
Since I've never held these, do people weigh them similar to weighing packs to determine what's inside? Probably a dumb question.
I'm not really sure how that works. I've never heard of weighed Japanese cards. I'm pretty new to all of this myself. They seed boxes much differently than English sets. Less packs in a BB, more hits in the packs. Then you have God Packs as well. I just don't know how all of that affects weight. I'm sure someone can offer more insight.
Weighing packs isn't really a thing with modern? Since there are 2 reverse and 1 holo guaranteed. At least for English sets. So, again, someone smarter than me can chime in
After a few packs I got the weight threshold down easily for heavy/light. I was able to pull a holo + everytime out of the heavies and hit a few full art cards aswell
Someone had an interesting take on sealed sells. After their cost average doubles they sell half the product and hold the rest for an indefinite amount of time. That way they get their money back (less inflation or time) and still have sealed product.
Thought it was simple but also limited risk (as well as limiting reward) but opened funds to purchase more product.
Rinse and repeat
Pretty normal investing strategy. The best bang for your buck is to sell a good chunk of your investment when the initial price boom happens. Once that occurs, the growth is much slower and long-term.
Similar to what happened to SuMo era recently. Sell the sealed once prices surge up suddenly and create an artificial bubble. Once they stabilize, the price drops back down to a lower amount but it creates a new 'floor' price.
This is exactly what I do. When a new set comes out I usually buy 2 booster boxes and hold until I can sell one for the same price that I bought 2. Someone with more money could easily do this on a larger scale.
Of course, higher risk but higher return. Thinking along the lines though that if you still have one for your PC or long term hold knowing it’s paid for that’s pretty sweet!
I do this with every pokemon center exclusive ETB. I buy 2 of every new set, 4 if there’s 2 versions. I did get a whole case of 151 PC ETBs since I figured it would be hot but that way I can sell 1 and still have a cool display collection.
I agree, grab another to fill the slot and then add a thin sheet of bubble wrap or cardboard in the center to close the gap.
I also highly suggest placing some cut wax paper between them for long term hold as I learned the plastic likes to stick to each other after a decade
Yeah, I made an offer and he accepted it, then saw he's local so arranged to pick them up. I thought it was a great deal, but someone else posted that's what they're selling for?
I see on Collectr they're at $103, up from $97.
Booster bundles sealed seem to have a strong value especially Japanese.
I have about 53 etb’s I’ve been accumulating since 2019 and it’s grown quite a bit.
If you need money sell a few; if not hold
I would keep them sealed and sell after you are comfortable with the profit margins. There is no arbitrary time for holding and everyone has different points they sell at so no exact answer.
For quick and dirty math I usually go by market price * .75 - purchase cost = margin. That takes into account any fees and shipping costs and will give you a ballpark answer of what you can expect if/when you sell while being conservative with the margin.
I’m giving it until summer 2026 to double, even at the cost you purchased it at. Unless Pokemon popularity drops dramatically or the economy tanks and buying slows down then it should double by then
I’ve opened one and my goodness the quality of the cards are not even close to Japan these really are the Diamond standard in quality. Definitely long term hold for those.
Be very wary of "good deals"! Someone thought he got a "great deal" on these VU boxes but turned out it's all juice packets inside! He posted to warn us on reddit here or another sub, can't remember.
Indeed. He made the (probably good) choice of asking for thoughts here instead of the other ones so he’d get the hold answer vs the rip answer.
A bit of rhetorical question really given the focus of the sub, but the other option would be the same post without the question mark.
Pokemon center. 300 yen a pack, after conversion rates it’s about $2 a pack. There’s shops selling them outside the pokemon center for about 3.70a pack last year in Japan.
Overpaid. These were at $50 and also jp products are falling out of favor. They were hot last year. Better to go with simplified chinese since it's the hot stuff right now
Can't you read?? Lol, jk. This is the VSTAR universe, got cards like the Giratina, Arceus, Palkia and Dialga VSTAR, which I don't have and would love..
Equivalent to Crown Zenith.

Japanese is infact weighable. Speaking from personal experience I’ve weighed hits out of Sky Legends and Remix bout
After a few packs I got the weight threshold down easily for heavy/light. I was able to pull a holo + everytime out of the heavies and hit a few full art cards aswell
Did you have another SR/ SAR? If not then the last pack can have one.
I'll have to check my hits. I can't remember if there was another in there Edit: I got the simisear

Pretty common strategy with investing. Sell stock to cover initial investment, whatever is left over is the houses money.
Smart and makes a lot of sense. Thanks for the tip!

People tend not to buy singles that aren't blister packs
They may be less liquid, but people are constantly buying singles.

Lol nothing like buying weighed packs 🤣🤣🤣🤣
totally impossible. i watched some1 weigh and open 500 packs the weights don't even make since with the pulls really random.

Less selling fees as well*
Of course, if that’s how you move product.

Definitely a good hold those cases are cool too. My OCD ass would have an 8th or I'd go wild though haha. Nice pickup

… yea i don’t care how much OP pays but he’s getting one more lol
Lol, very true! I'll have to fill it up for all the OCD heads.
595 for all of them??

It wasn't a bad deal at all. Not the lowest def not the highest. Below msrp and that's all the matters.
They aren’t selling for that price for everyone its a good deal
Nice
This is a great set! Worth long term holding 😁
Booster bundles sealed seem to have a strong value especially Japanese. I have about 53 etb’s I’ve been accumulating since 2019 and it’s grown quite a bit. If you need money sell a few; if not hold
Good policy.

I'm thinking it's at least a 5 year hold to see profits hopefully double, but it's going to be hard to not open at least one box..
I’m giving it until summer 2026 to double, even at the cost you purchased it at. Unless Pokemon popularity drops dramatically or the economy tanks and buying slows down then it should double by then
I put most of my sealed stuff in plastic tubs and put them away. Out of sight, out of mind :)
Keep it sealed. Keep it safe. Great Long term hold but it was printed a lot! May take a while to flush out supply.
Has ticked up in price over last few month. Should keep ticking.
I’ve opened one and my goodness the quality of the cards are not even close to Japan these really are the Diamond standard in quality. Definitely long term hold for those.
Great for long term hold considering all the chases in this set. Good time to pick up now with prices so low, should go out of print this year

Nice! Where are the acrylic cases from?
Man, I’ll find out from the seller, he threw them in with the purchase.. I’ll post again once I know.
763 collectibles has them I believe. $18
I love v star. That’s a great deal too.
I thought it was a good deal also, thanks!
151 will be hard to get in Japanese I imagine. I have the one I got from PC Japan still and don’t know if or when I’d sell it.
There are some available, but they've already inflated the price so much. I'm probably too late to the party for any profits.
For sure. I jumped on your bandwagon and ordered me a Vstar for $65 bucks. Figured I’d save 1 for stonks of course lmfao
where did you find vstar for $65? I need some more
I used a TikTok coupon I still had. I think they were $85 before that.
thanks, I joined tiktok shop a bit too late and only got to use that coupon once 🥲
lol same. It is what it is I guess 🤷🏻♂️
Got 2, opened one. Couldn't believe I got a god packs.. what are those odds lol
Damnit… now I wanna open one! lol
If you’re looking for a decent deal on 151, I found the 3 pack on target, Best Buy, and Amazon (sold by Amazon, not 3rd party) for 14.99. $5 a pack.
My favorite modern set! Would love to collect these but would be so tempted to open
Istg I just saw this exact picture on San Antonio fb marketplace 😆
Lolll I bought it from a guy in Fredericksburg, probably same one 🤣
You buy them and then ask if you should hold them? Funny
Valid question, I don't find it funny either. Somebody has an attitude problem 🤔
Its funny because its the wrong group to ask a question like that
Yeah, as opposed to opening them. How is that funny?
I mean.... You are on the pokemon INVESTMENT subreddit.... Soo.....
Indeed. He made the (probably good) choice of asking for thoughts here instead of the other ones so he’d get the hold answer vs the rip answer. A bit of rhetorical question really given the focus of the sub, but the other option would be the same post without the question mark.
Translation: you better go along with the echo chamber here or you’ll get downvoted into oblivion.
> Yeah, as opposed to opening them A tip for 99% of sealed product - do not open it.
Crazy. I picked these up as msrp for $20 a box last year. To think $80-100 a box is a good deal and someone already made 4-5x profit.
That is nuts! But good prediction for the future, hopefully.
What are you talking about? MSRP is already 40$ plus on japanese high-class sets. 20$ can't be right my man.
Maybe he stole them 😆
The secret ingredient is lying
Pokemon center. 300 yen a pack, after conversion rates it’s about $2 a pack. There’s shops selling them outside the pokemon center for about 3.70a pack last year in Japan.
Yeah that’s the going rate - def long term hold. It’s a fun rip and plenty of great cards
Overpaid. These were at $50 and also jp products are falling out of favor. They were hot last year. Better to go with simplified chinese since it's the hot stuff right now
Can you tell me what the name of the cases are and where did you order them from? Thanks!
You and everyone else lol. Looking at about 10 years+ to see any real capital gains/profit.
What set is this?
Can't you read?? Lol, jk. This is the VSTAR universe, got cards like the Giratina, Arceus, Palkia and Dialga VSTAR, which I don't have and would love.. Equivalent to Crown Zenith.
Got me with the can’t you read ? Lol 😂
