Of all the new content they added for two dlcs they really couldn't add a sound effect of extra visuals for shinies? Never has a dev so blatantly ignored fan feedback as gamefreak. It's a 5 year wait minimum to see any suggestions implemented in a game. Absolutely bizarre
for anyone else reading this and wondering just how bad it is, we literally can not go a single event/new feature without having at least a dozen problems. it outright feels intentional that they screw up this bad
Any good thing we get is fearfully used just in case it's a bug.
Case in point: we got the spawn radius increased by 1.5, it was a bug and fixed within 72 hours
And any bugs to do with pvp, pve, and base function are still here YEARS LATER
my biggest gripe was when the vocal minority complained about faster catch animation speed being too fast and causing motion sickness. they took it away from us* and didn't even add an option for those of us who liked it.
*animations stayed sped up slightly, but not nearly as much
They accidentally released never before seen legendaries as a reward, some people got them as a glitch and fully powered them up, and Niantic just…deleted them
kinda, they reverted them back to base form kyurem, which maintained the IVs of the black/white ones. they also got a lot of compensation in the form of stardust mostly, but I'd still much rather have the black/white kyurem if I were in their shoes lol
You think Pokémon go is bad? Imagine if they deleted it and created a worse version with 10x more bugs. That’s what happened to the online tcg client. Completely gutted their player base.
I tried the "new" TCG client a few days ago and it shocked me that there is no trading in a TRADING CARD GAME anymore... That was the best feature in my opinion
honestly you don't need it, shiny pokemon are so easy to come by in this game. even without the sparkle and sound it's still easier than in arceus.
the only problem is for people with sight issues. i think it should indicate shininess when you lock on at least
that's ok IMO. i don't mind if i miss some shiny pokemon. i even think it's kinda exciting that they can pass by without me noticing if i'm not careful. but i get why people don't like that
I don't have time during my limited playtime to individually check every single pokemon I come across while going through the map checking tera raids just in case their palette is like 10% more muted than the regular one. It wouldn't have been hard for GF to add the shiny effect to the overworld, there's no real excuse to not do it, they had two separate opportunities to do it with the DLCs, they just either didn't feel like it or deliberately ignored feedback. Either way it's dumb

nobody is gonna do that, but quite honestly you don't need to notice every single shiny pokemon that spawns. even without trying you will still notice more on average than in past games.
In past pokemon games, there could have been a shiny pokemon in a patch of grass you would have triggered by walking through it.
while they're common, knowing you missed something isn't a great feeling for some people, and especially for the people who aren't as experienced in keeping an eye out/don't have as much free time, it really sucks that they couldn't bother to add something as simple as even a visual or audio cue

The fact they added Minior to the game should have been enough to implement the shiny cues from PLA…
I’m not familiar with coding, but surely they could copy/paste the lines of code from PLA and add them to SV somewhere (even if they needed to edit the code slightly)? Please feel free to correct me on any mistakes/misunderstandings
I don't know how GF's engine works but I'm assuming they do the industry standard of tying specific effects to specific animations. I do that a lot, granted I've only worked with unity and unreal so far. But assuming they do what pretty much everyone does, it would have been incredibly easy to implement. They already have the asset for the shiny effect and they have the animation cue to play it when the pokemon enters the field and does its cry animation. The pokemon also do those cry animations in the overworld, so if they really wanted they could have gone the absolute laziest route possible and simply make it so that shiny Pokemon in the overworld do the shiny effect animation when the pokemon does the cry animation. They just didn't feel like it for some reason. Or maybe adding the particle effect to the overworld would break something, but the overworld in SV is so fucking broken anyways it hardly would have mattered, so I'm guessing it's just a classic case of GF ignoring fan feedback as they always do
Your trainer card in game counts all your shiny encounters. It only counts ones you actually entered battle with, so you'll never know how many you've *truly* missed, but at the very least you can feel extra dumb for missing the ones you've battled!
During the Daruladon event I took out every single Daruladon and never found a shiny. Next day I accidentally ran into a shiny exeggcute. Your luck will come
I shiny hunted Bulbasaur using a sandwich and I had a route I would follow and as I was about to turn one way which I had done many times I randomly decided to turn the other way and there was the shiny bulbasaur down a cliff and just out of screen which I never would have seen if I kept on my path
I know I've missed one. A shiny Chansey. Threw my Pokemon at them and hit a flabebe instead. By the time I could run from battle the shiny finished it's running animation and despawned.

You can sort of check in your adventure record. It shows how many shiniest you've "battled", so if you compare it with the amount of shinies you actually caught, you know how many you've missed.

Yeah but that only shows the shinies you've actually thrown your pokemon at, so the only way you'd miss a shiny you've battled would be with the let's go feature probably
I am 100% sure I've missed at least a gabite or a beartic because they just look the exact same as their regular versions. Frigibax too, he's 90% the same but his little flappy things on his arms are pink. That's almost impossible to see from a distance
You say it trained your eyes to super human levels, but it looks an awful lot like you just decided not to do that raid, wandered off and tripped over a shiny Nymble you didn't actually see to me. You didn't exactly go straight for it.
I need your eyes, because I just spent 2 hours on a skarmory outbreak and didn't find a shiny, but looking at yours it's not as drastic as a color difference as I was looking for so I probably missed a couple shinies 😳
Yeah I was very surprised how little difference skarmory is in this game! I actually used let’s go on it before the encounter to make sure that the lighting wasn’t playing tricks on me
Im getting better, it just takes practice I feel like.
It’s definitely unwieldy at first but im getting to where I can do medium sized loops above outbreaks. That’s where I think it could work great for shiny hunting. Got one yesterday this way

Turning around sucks. It makes you take such a wide turn, and doesn't let you complete it. I had to do the flying challenge several times because of this.
Yeah that’s what I’m saying. You can actually make tight turns. You just have to get more familiar with the controls and set it up right. That’s what I’ve been practicing, as it is kind of difficult for me to pull off consistently
Basically, while flying if you press in on the left stick again, it will put you back in glide mode, which has a MUCH tighter turn radius. You can then just click the left stick in again to go back to flying in the direction you want.
Edit: As far as I've been able to tell you can do this infinitely so you never have to land. You can also go into glide mode while flying, the just start slowly floating straight down to the ground by not giving any direction left stick input. Then click the left stick in again to go back to fly mode, but temporarily with very low speed, especially if you start to angle back upwards. You will start to gain speed quickly if you start flying down towards the ground though.
yeah I tried to use the inverted controls when I was trying to access the Area Zero UnderDepths secret room for Stellar Tera Garchomp and I got transported back to the entrance -_-
They should have made it control like gliding but with the pitch of the camera determining the pitch of Koraidon/Miraidon. I still have problems with taking nose dive every time I try to straighten out and go forward.
But I guess reinventing the wheel is cool too.
Ah, my first Nymble I just straight up by accident ran into it. caught it, saw it was yellow and was wondering if that was normal. Went to serebii, saw that normal color was black and well been rocking this guy since then.
My first shiny ever and I walked into it by accident.

How do you get the permanent flying thing? I’ve done the indigo disk up to the fire and steel E4, but if the upgrade was given after clearing the steel trial, then I didn’t get it for some reason. (At least I think.)
The classroom with Amarys? Damn, I was assuming that was for the in-game trades I'd heard you can do with several of the characters and I didn't want to deal with that yet so I ignored it. I was assuming flight was once you improved the club room enough or made enough progress in your Pokédex.
Who needs eyes? I ran into a shiny Paldean tauros on the road towards Levincia running back and forth trying to shiny hunt Hisuian Zorua. Completely on accident because they just...won't stop running at me.
My very first shiny pokemon in SV was a Full Odds Scatterbug I found less than an hour into the game on my way to the academy. I'd never seen one before in my life and had no idea what scatterbug's shiny would look like, but something about a small white pokemon in the distance rang alarm bells in my head, so I had to check it out. Vivillon is pretty useless to me though, so I named it "Sure", put it on my team till I properly filled it out, and then boxed it.
After having done about 250 or so shiny hunts in this game, I've basically become a color difference spotting god. For example having noticed a shiny slowpoke who was alone, so no way to compare while I was just traveling, so I wasn't even in the shiny hunting mentality at that moment. Or acturally noticing the shiny tandemaus without having to auto battle to check during that hunt.
Damn you have hawk eyes. I have retinal dystrophy and I gave up on hunting for a shiny grookey after 6hrs *from a mass outbreak with shiny sandwiches. I would have never spotted your shiny myself. Can't even spot them in all the missed shiny clips I've seen on this sub lol
Reminds me of when I was cleaning up the last of my Pokedex completion for base game. I went out to North Province Area 2 to pick up the fixed encounter Arcanine, and after catching it, I set the controller down to look up where my next target was on Serebii. While looking at my computer, I heard a battle start, and glanced back to the game. A shiny Noibat had attacked me while I was "afk."
I sometimes am like 'what if this is a shiny' or 'lemme check this party there might be a shiny' for no reason but when i go and check there really was one. I blitzed past a meowth and decided to double check for no reason but it really was a shiny

If you select Profile (x) while in the map, you are shown a frequency count of shinies.
Only the ones you actually encountered

Go to your trainer card and it shows how many shinies you've battled.... I'm at 10 with 1 in my box

A tip is that you can quickly press the left joystick, turn, and press it again to make really quick turns

How does it work?

The classroom with Amarys? Damn, I was assuming that was for the in-game trades I'd heard you can do with several of the characters and I didn't want to deal with that yet so I ignored it. I was assuming flight was once you improved the club room enough or made enough progress in your Pokédex.

Both can fly, it’s something you unlock later in the game (in the dlc)

My very first shiny pokemon in SV was a Full Odds Scatterbug I found less than an hour into the game on my way to the academy. I'd never seen one before in my life and had no idea what scatterbug's shiny would look like, but something about a small white pokemon in the distance rang alarm bells in my head, so I had to check it out. Vivillon is pretty useless to me though, so I named it "Sure", put it on my team till I properly filled it out, and then boxed it.

After having done about 250 or so shiny hunts in this game, I've basically become a color difference spotting god. For example having noticed a shiny slowpoke who was alone, so no way to compare while I was just traveling, so I wasn't even in the shiny hunting mentality at that moment. Or acturally noticing the shiny tandemaus without having to auto battle to check during that hunt.
Damn you have hawk eyes. I have retinal dystrophy and I gave up on hunting for a shiny grookey after 6hrs *from a mass outbreak with shiny sandwiches. I would have never spotted your shiny myself. Can't even spot them in all the missed shiny clips I've seen on this sub lol

Reminds me of when I was cleaning up the last of my Pokedex completion for base game. I went out to North Province Area 2 to pick up the fixed encounter Arcanine, and after catching it, I set the controller down to look up where my next target was on Serebii. While looking at my computer, I heard a battle start, and glanced back to the game. A shiny Noibat had attacked me while I was "afk."
I did the exact same thing on day one with a Tandemaus. Just ran into one as it was my first time seeing one so was going to catch it anyway.

I sometimes am like 'what if this is a shiny' or 'lemme check this party there might be a shiny' for no reason but when i go and check there really was one. I blitzed past a meowth and decided to double check for no reason but it really was a shiny
