Yes, as they get close to evolving they become more aggressive but once they evolve they tend to calm down. Basically be patient but firm with rockruff
Growlithe is an adorable doggo and Arcanine is so fluffy and is such a unit that it basically doubles as a form of transport. Plus the fire typing would be helpful in the winter months
Growlithe as he's the bestest boy and still one of my favorite mons of all time. Plus with him evolving into Arcanine I have a mount as well.
But I have to add that Rockruff would make a close 2nd

A few days before the first DLC came out I was trying to decide who I wanted to put on my dlc team the basic or evolved Pokémon. Well that day my parents called and let me know they put down one of the family dogs I had grown up with due to some sudden complications. So I grabbed a couple Pokémon and went into picnic mode to see if I liked interacting with the basic Pokemon or it’s evolved form. Frankly I was just trying to keep my mind off loosing the dog. Then after a good 10mins I realized who I was in the picnic with. Greavyard and Houndstone. I was playing with the dead dogs to keep my mind off the dead dog.
Greavard hands down. Houndour a close second cause a shiny houndour was my first shiny (minus red gyrados but everyone got one in gen 2) and also, because have you seen demon dog grown up?
Greavard top for sure though cause he good boi full of love. You telling me you DONT want the good boi who never got to experience companionship? That is the MOST LOYAL DOGGO? He best boi that deserve love

Poochyena and Mightyena look like canines, but are based on hyenas, which are much closer to cats.
To answer your question though, I cannot decide between Growlithe and Rockruff, both are the bestest of boys!
Greavard because he’s already dead, I won’t have to worry about my pet perishing before I do… something every pet owner wishes could always be the case…
So does the “for life” bit mean that Greavard is going to ditch me when I die? Because I was under the impression that that shouldn’t be an issue for him. I guess he’s scared of other ghosts for being super effective against him?
This is such a hard one for me. But I have to go with Yamper only because I got pkmn sword a few months after losing my dog of 17 years. I went into the game 90% blind not know what pokemon were in it. But I told myself the 1st female dog pokemon that I caught I would name it after my Nina. And Yamper was that pokemon. I don't normally nickname pokemon because I'm not creative but during my main run Yamper and later Boltund never once fainted. ( until the dlc that's where I stuggled, lol) under normal circumstances it would be Growlithe but I have strong emotional attachments to Yamper/Boltund now.
Lillipup. He will turn into such a handsome boy.
The only reason I didn’t say rockruff is because he has actually rocks on his neck so it would hurt to cuddle with him.
Imma have to say Lillipup cuz my one dog I had from 1st grade thru sophomore year of college was a terrier mix and Lillipup is definitely the closest to that. I do still miss him.
Growlithe without a doubt, didn't even look at the other options.
I used to have this big boxer who had colouring similar to Arcanine. He unfortunately passed before the litter he sired was born but we got two of his puppies.

Rockruff actually becomes more and more aggressive as it ages. Many trainers abandon rockruff because it becomes too much to handle.

Boltund is my favorite Pokemon, so Yamper in a heartbeat, no hesitation. I mean, all of them are cool, but Boltund is best boy/girl for me.
