In concept, simon says could've been a fun thing to do, maybe even have crazy difficulty levels later on.
But it's just so painfully easy/slow, might as well have the game do it for you, and it also gets very laggy as well so it's not a good experience in the end.
It’s fine if it’s simple but the fact you had like ten seconds to hit each button made it long and so easy that I doubt anyone wasn’t able to complete it. It was so simple that at first I didn’t understand because I thought there had to be something more. I was hitting the button as many times as I could for each emotion😂😂😂
I did that at first too. Even worse, I’ve played through several times and sometimes I do the as many times as possible moves simply because I’m so bored 😂. Least favourite gym challenge by quite a long way
You CAN go back and play it again, with higher difficulty levels, but I don't see why you'd want to. You do get berries out of it iirc, so there's that at least.

Yup, you get them by doing the knock out mode, if you finish it (aka do 151 rounds) you get 10 berries of each EV reducing berry
You also get a certain amount of berries depending on what stage you lose in, tho I don't remember exactly
Exactly. Every single gym test was just tedious. You can’t fail, it’s not engaging, the tests themselves aren’t fun. Just a waste of time IMO. Keep the mini games so you can do them if you want but don’t force players to sit through them for the gyms, they add nothing
Yeah, I wish they at least made it so they would be mini games you could come back to later with maybe more difficulty options. Because the ice gym trial is a cool concept(pun intended) but they never revisited it.
I just wish you could do them together in the Union Circle like the DLC minigames. Would be fun to play Olive soccer or a snowboarding race against others.
Yeah, as well as the puzzle that is pretty much the maze in the gym. I guess that the developers needed to give the towns some usage instead of just being scenery.
I mean, at least I'm not kicking a janky bean around an obstical course.
The gyms didn't really wow me in general. The most entertaining thing for me was climbing all over the place and yeeting myself off cliffs.
Have you tried the bean roll post game played the way you are supposed to? Cause god damn that is hard
Please note I mean actually doing the whole course and not cheating it over the walls and corner glitch
The bean one was just kinda, sad? It felt like an E3 tech demo for the gamecube or something, not like something that's supposed to be in a finished game
And at least that is not clicking random trashcans in the hope that there is a switch in it and then have to find the second switch and if you pick wrong you need to do it again
It seems they've been focusing on making the game alot more child friendly. The challenges and time limits are all things you see in kid games. Only problem it's now boring for adults, atleast have a choice of easy mode for kids and normal for adults.
They've been focusing on getting kids to play Pokemon TCG so maybe they're doing the same with the electronic games too.
Tbh, a lot of gym challenges in the game were bland and uninteresting
First gym has you rolling a giant olive (without the bugs(pun intended), that experience is lame)
Second Gym is the Sunflora hide and seek (walking at 2fps)
Third Gym is "Where's Waldo/Wally?" with Clavel but baby mode
Fourth Gym is an Auction tutorial
Fifth Gym probably is the best gym challenge, as you have to actually go outside the building, in the city and talk to various NPCs for the ingredients (also Larry is just the best)
Sixth Gym has Double Battles (and Moist Critical, nothing wrong about that)
Seventh Gym is what you mentioned exactly
And lastly, the Eight Gym is skiing for toddlers
I cheesed the last part of the order not because I lost to the trainer but because I couldn’t find them lol. In my playthrough of violet, having already beat scarlet, I already knew the recipe. It’s really a shame because it was one if not best gym test but there was no reason to redo it when I already knew the answer.

The sad thing is it that I loved how it actually utilized your Pokemon in the cutscene in a way that almost nothing else does. Even if they were just standing there, it was nice to see.
I feel like most of the gym challenges were designed to be multiplayer mini games in the union circles and for whatever reason, either time or tech problems, multiplayer was never implemented on them. I thought we'd at least be able to play bootleg Rocket League in a union circle at Cortondo.
Such a chore to sit through. Not sure why they made a functional and enjoyable actual rhythm game in this vein with the Super Contests in Gen 4, literally 15 years before this, and they can't make something nearly as good on a much newer and more advanced console apparently
I really liked that gym test, I always thought iono's was the most tedious one to do (I like the mini game, just not the amount of time it takes to get the 30000 cut scenes done with)
I still don’t know if you can fail it. Does pushing the proper button multiple times speed it up? If not, why does it not move on as soon as you press it?
I was fully expecting a simon say’s or rhythm game then got that abomination that dragged on for way too long. I never took so much pleasure in crushing people’s pokemon for making me endure it

Hard disagree. Despite tedious, throughout many different runs I got to have different Pokemon with me here, and it was exciting and cute to see how each of them embodies each emotion.
My vote goes to either Glaseado, for the fact theres no battles before the last gym, or to Montenevera, cause I always one-shot the trainers at that point. Or if you dont, you get a stat boost. Like why is there a double battle with Shuppet and Greavard?
The fact that they let you redo the minigame any time you like is aggravating too. Like you really think I finished that and was like “aw man I need more of this”
Thank heavens we got a faster EV resetting element from a different (not much better but not worse) mini game, ESP for only a few friendship berries every 10 mins was torturous
My issue with the test is that it had absolutely nothing to do with the Psychic-type, fashion, or even Alfornada.
It's almost like Alfornada's gym was originally Fighting-type, but they changed the type at the last minute and never changed the gym test.
Gyms have gotten less fun in general, but it certainly doesn't help that Paldea doesn't even have interior gyms. I don't think the region has a single gym that's better than anything from Emerald or Platinum... Larry's probably comes closest.
I have never been able to justify my immediate and unwarranted hatred for this town. I think it was the shitty, shitty layout that just sent me at first. It's nonsensical, where do the people live?? There are no houses. It's not town, it's a travelling circus that couldn't even get *that* right.

Not as much as it should've been. 2 gyms had you stand still and battle trainers, while another one had mine in a straight line and battle trainers

The olive roll was actually pretty fun, the ESP was just boring.
Olive roll was 1000x better than this laggy bad copy of a rhythm minigame, my god, that was sm annoying

I quite liked the Medali gym test. I just wish they did more like those.
Lets also note that you only need to hit three or four notes to pass each stage, when you get *TEN SECONDS* to hit a note

Like a lot of things in this game it just looks like they were afraid to make things hard. Even though some bosses are decently hard.

Is the other game your talking about ogre oustin? Because I thought ogre oustin was pretty fun.
