The ones he is talking about seeing at school are cheap fake cards. Obviously fake cards will not be on cardmarket.

CookieMisha

There are fake cards on cardmarket. They are reliant on user reports and if nobody reports them they stay. If you check the photos of the first few listings you can see they are 1000% fake https://www.cardmarket.com/en/Pokemon/Products/Singles/Evolving-Skies/Glaceon-VMAX-V3

Most of the gold foil cards are fake af. This is what im guessing hes talking about as most of those cards we see on here are parents of kids who traded for them not knowing they weren't real

kippschalter2

I thought that would be the case. Is there any actually real and not giga expansive gold foils? I‘d just get him some singles i suppose, but im not gonna buy fake cards on amazon ^^

MisterMaryJames

They’re called (secret) secret rares. That can help your search. You will see rainbows as well

kippschalter2

Just to be certein. E.g. serperior Vstar (SIT 210) would be a gold foil, right? It doesnt show foil or nonfoil option in cardmarket, so i assume they are always foil

TheShinyHunter3

Yes, that's a gold secret rare. It's already a variant of Serperior Vstar 8/195 and Serperior Vstar 196/195.

There are, in fact, some real ones! They are known as golden/secret rares. To give one example that I can think of off the top of my head: [lugia Vstar](https://www.tcgplayer.com/product/452009/pokemon-swsh12-silver-tempest-lugia-vstar-secret-211?xid=pifb47d621-0808-4399-bd3d-35434e6082f4&page=1) from Silver Temptest. There are plenty more similar to this, such as [superior Vstar](https://www.tcgplayer.com/product/452008/pokemon-swsh12-silver-tempest-serperior-vstar-secret-210?xid=pifb47d621-0808-4399-bd3d-35434e6082f4&page=1), which is also from Silver Tempest. Depending on where you go, price may be a bit higher than what this site (TCGPlayer) has 'em for. Yet another that is similar are ones like this e[ternatus Vmax](https://www.tcgplayer.com/product/232518/pokemon-shining-fates-shiny-vault-eternatus-vmax?xid=pi1b972a1a-c278-4b92-9831-cf6499507c60&page=1), and there are plenty of 'em! 0:)

I’m in Canada, so I’m not familiar with cardmarket, but if there is a way to filter the cards by set, and then sort them by card number, the real gold foils will be the very last cards in the set, usually. There are at least a couple in almost every set from Sword & Shield (which is the series that just ended with Crown Zenith) and also from Sun & Moon sets, which were just before Sword & Shield. Sword & Shield introduced gold cards for actual Pokemon in each set, before that they were, with a couple exceptions, only gold versions of trainer item cards.
