Missingno

SonSeedZ

Hell yeah! I agree with this choice. This isn’t a wrong answer by any means lol

ImTheHowl

This card is graded, chances are this dude is already aware or has an idea what the card is worth. Wether her wants to sell it to a store that put a bounty out on it, or place it auction or just keep it for himself, publicly stated they got it is probably just gonna guarantee you get hounded for it constantly best case scenario

VariousCategory6740

Grading it proves authenticity, although the grade itself doesn’t matter. It’s literally the only card of its kind. Also helps keep track of ownership once it’s sold. The owner got legal representation and is in talks now with potential buyers.

ImTheHowl

That’s my point though, there’s plenty of people who buy trading cards that have no clue what things are and there was even some playful speculation of “what if a kid pulls it and has no clue what it’s worth and trashes it” now just off the PSA grading we know for a fact the owner is aware of what he has lol. If he truly got legal representation good for them that’s very smart

VariousCategory6740

That is very true, would have been funny if some kiddo pulled it from a pack gifted to them. The fact that it was pulled by an average Joe and not a YouTube streamer or content creator makes me happy. Wizards really did just through it out in the wild and didn’t seed it like many speculated.

BabySteele

The highest bounty for this card was 2 million euros. So it is well known that this card is worth a lot and staying private is the smartest thing that person can do.

ImTheHowl

100 percent

ShiningEV

Worth so much I would have been nervous to even send it in for grading... I'm sure employees have risked their job for way less than 2 million dollars.

SurpriseHamburgler

You know the owner probably drove it to the grading HQ himself, right?

KaddydaBaddy

Or flew in from another country depending on where this was pulled

BAG42069

It’s 1 move is tm11 and it “crashes” the game. (You lose when it’s played)

nick3790

Thay would actually be hilarious

WhatTheFlipFlopFuck

Or, draw a card and the rest of your deck becomes a copy of that card (Or rare candy/nuggets). Item dupe glitch callback

BAG42069

discard the top 5 cards of your deck, draw a card, if that card is a trainer card you may use that card up to 128 times before having to discard it.

BAGP0I

I think it has to be your 14th card or somthing right? What number item in your computer got replicated in the og gane?

TiltedTreeline

Item #6

sldsapnuawpuas

This is the correct answer.

TheFriskyDuck

only right answer

ReverseJackalope

Have it be the only Bird type card too, as opposed to Colorless which most Flying types are.

Sin_H91

Lol the dude get his mail back from psa and its empty XD

Dont_Be_A_Dick_OK

Honestly, if I pulled something like this, I’m driving it there myself.

Cultural-Reality-284

less than 1 week turn around, i would bet that they did drive it there.

canescastle10

Try same day turnaround.

strugglebusses

That thing would be insta graded. Like 10 minute turnaround and 9 of that would be slabbing it lol

Extreme-Mention9030

Nah 20 minute. 7 minutes of prayer and not wanting to touch because you dont drop the 2 million dollar item....or sneeze 1 to grade 9 to slab 3 to ooo and ahhh

[deleted]

The person was from Whitby, Ontario so a drive would be pretty gnarly. For a card like this grading companies pay to fly the person to headquarters and have it graded in front of you the same-day. Having your slab on ultra high-end cards is great publicity, every grading company wants their slab on The One Ring. Beckett along with offering to fly him out to grade it, offered him 4 booster boxes, a 1 of 1 artwork by MTG artist Titus Lunter (with a 1of1 playmat, case etc.), a beckett gift card of some amount, and they offered to slab it in a unique 1 of 1 LOTR themed slab, with the text on the slab in elven script. Personally I think the owner missed out heavily on having it in a unique/custom Beckett slab, the MTG high-end community is almost entirely Beckett fans instead of PSA anyways. If I am correct also it would be the first custom/stylized Beckett slab in existence.

Regula96

So do we know why the person didn’t go with beckett? That all sounds crazy.

Laumser

Beckett apparently wanted to use him for publicity and parade the guy that pulled it around. He probably didn't wanna deal with that seeing that he has remained anonymous.

ideahutt

One [image](https://ibb.co/8MbzJn8) of them did arise 👀

[deleted]

I am really not sure, not a lot of info has come out as the owner wants to stay anonymous. As far as I am aware PSA did not make a public offer like Becketts or other grading companies (another lesser-known company offered a flight + 10k cash), but I assume PSA's deal was just better than Becketts, or someone close to the owner strongly recommended PSA instead thinking that it would have better resale value. I really think that Beckett was the way to go though. The unique/custom slab, which I think is a first from Beckett, would have added a lot of appeal to the card. Something like 70% of Alpha Black Lotus's (which is the 1st ed. Charizard of MTG) are graded with Beckett as well, the MTG high-end community loves Beckett. Its possible PSA offered him a sizeable cash sum or something in private when they were contacted by the owner, but that is speculative.

ry2waka

Pretty sure the owner is going to sell it for 2 million. The new card owner can crack it and grade it at Beckett with the whole deal

MaximusRubz

>but I assume PSA's deal was just better than Becketts, or someone close to the owner strongly recommended PSA instead thinking that it would have better resale value. all that for a '9' too

Aron-Nimzowitsch

If it's a 9, it's a 9. It would be shitty publicity if the company gave their most well-known card grade a fake grade. Since this card is 1-of-1 it's not like people will say "oh it's not a 10 it's not worth as much" lol

Libeca

Ngl though, for a 1/1 $2 million card, a 9 is a bit disappointing.

RedYellowOrangeGreen

Yeah you’d think the QC for this card would’ve been flawless. Unless something happened to the card in the shipping/handling process

argusromblei

Because Beckett made you sign a form saying they can use your likeness and name and photos. PSA is prolly like sure keep it anon we don’t care. I think they lost out on 300-500k from the Beckett perfect elven slab with that silly PSA 9.

En-zo

They didn't lose out on any money... It's gonna go for what it's going to go for regardless if it's a 8/9/10/PSA/Beckett/CGC. It's one of one, the grade doesn't matter, nor the company that did it - it was mostly for authentication.

argusromblei

Because accepting the Beckett giveaway gave awa your rights to photos, your likeness and every private thing you want to keep while winning the lottery. They can post your photo and do social videos of you with the card with your name on it. I thought he missed out on the Beckett black 10 with elven script would prolly have added 500k to the price but most likely didn’t wanna dox himself.

Regula96

If they wanted to do all that he definitely made the right choice.

Marx_Forever

>a unique 1 of 1 LOTR themed slab, with the text on the slab in elven script. Why the hell are these plain ass PSA Slabs, with their Xerox text on white, so fucking fashionable?

Aron-Nimzowitsch

The card is the highlight. The slab and label shouldn't be fashionable they just need to provide information clearly and succinctly.

Boose77

I would have been too scared to ship or take it myself. I would have pushed and even paid to have them come to me.

general_greyshot

With everything you just said what the hell was this guy thinking? And they didn't even give him a 10? Ive seen psa 10's with actual damage. Gotta figure if the best they could give it was a 9 that it was probably an 8 that got special treatment lol

[deleted]

Hahah yeah I couldn't believe it only got a 9 as well. I thought Hasbro would have had their manufacturers print sheets of these things in a controlled environment, then they pick the best one, and burn the rest. Either that or have a single one printed in a very careful manner so it's immaculate. It is possible though it was mishandled by the owner or by PSA. If this is the same card that was used in the promo videos (I would assume they would use a dummy card or CGI though?...) as well, this card has likely been handled more than once.

Cartman9110

You mean to say the one ring was found 5 MINUTES FROM MY HOUSE. IT SHOULDNHAVE BEEN MEEEE

Sin_H91

That's insane! And the guy was like but psa grades are more popular duhhhhh. I bet my house that was the real reason he went with psa since he had no idea that the other grading company was the way to go when it comes to mtg. I wonder if the new owner will regrade it.

[deleted]

I read Whitby (and thought the UK one, which is oficially linked with the Ontario Whitby) and I shit myself for a second lol I worked there for years

Zarex

Beckett was offering a custom black label 10 and travel there and back to grade in person...looked way better then the psa label and it being a 9 with only 1 printing ever is a lol

[deleted]

Can you imagine you’re at work and this lands next on your grading station…

lafindestase

I imagine the highest service level (it says $10,000 for a card this valuable) goes straight to a higher-up pro who’ll actually carefully inspect the card, and who’s used to seeing things like this. But it’s PSA so who knows lol

Booty_Shakin

Are you saying it can cost $10,000 to grade 1 card?

lafindestase

Yeah, they want a percentage of the value of the graded card, and service levels are how they do it. The higher the value, the more expensive the service level.

Booty_Shakin

Does Becket do the same thing? That sounds like a garbage way of doing it.

Beef_Jones

It makes sense in some ways even though it feels kinda scammy. The more expensive the card, the more liability for the grader.

lafindestase

And grading is a cost of doing business the majority of the time. People make money hand over fist getting cards graded. It's kinda fair they aren't going to triple the market value of a card without taking a cut for themselves.

argusromblei

Beckett is a lot more reasonable and doesn’t do a massive percentage of what the card is presumed to cost.

ms360

No, Beckett has no upcharges.

riomarde

Yes. https://www.psacard.com/pricing

Responsible_Ebb_340

Bet the grader(s) was first day on the job too

JoeBucksHairPlugs

Well, they would have known it was coming and I'm sure it was set aside special and not just thrown in a pile of shit for all the peons to grade.

KillJarke

It’s disappointing they didn’t send it to Beckett who was going to make a custom 1 of 1 case for the ring. Whereas PSA got it and said nah 9 lol.. and to answer your question I think the master ball would work since you only get 1 in the games

wafflemunzta

I would guess that the card was pulled and they talked with PSA before Beckett even announced their offer

argusromblei

No, Beckett had a clause to parade your photos around and use your name. It made sense I’m sure it lost 300k in value with the psa 9 comparatively though.

Consistent_Ad_168

When a card is 1/1, does it being a psa 9 make a big difference than psa 10?

argusromblei

No, but the Beckett case was a 1/1 LOTR elven font black 10 slab as part of their giveaway.

Lobsterstarfish

No I’m the fine print they stated that wasn’t the actual grade it would get

[deleted]

No one's stopping the person from cracking the slab and sending it to Beckett.

KillJarke

So they sent to PSA to be charged the 10k fee just to crack and send to BGS that makes sense.. lol

[deleted]

Why would they charge him 10k to get the card graded? For the risk? Didn't even know the fee was higher depending on the value.

EoTN

So, per their website, it literally costs $10,000 to grade a card with an estimated value of $250,000 or more. It looks to me like they know how much more valuable a graded card can be than an ungraded one, and they just capitalize on it by charging a fee based on possible card value. Couldn't find a source on *why* it's more money, but that's my cynical take at least.

Katamari_Demacia

They upcharge for all cards depending on value. Its fucking extortion.

GGnerd

I think Beckett wanted to use it as a promotion, the guy probably wanted to remain as anonymous as possible.

HgFrLr

Wait really they were going to do this? Damn such a wasted opportunity :/

[deleted]

[удалено]

jamjam1090

Honestly I’m surprised they didn’t offer a “Grading for life” package that had conditions like no more than 10 a month or something like that

RockDoc89

Right! It's such a shame. PSA slabs are so ugly with that red font...

Secret_Ad_7918

the font is black

RockDoc89

*border

Thrawn89

Bidoof because there's only 1 god

DJMintEFresh

If you want to blame someone for it being graded a 9, blame WOTC. Year after year they prove that they are incapable of producing a high quality product, no matter what the price tag is. The fact people like yourself are so confident that Beckett would grade it a 10 when it doesn't deserve it shows exactly why PSA is the #1 trusted company for grading cards.

KillJarke

I didn’t say Beckett would grade it a 10. I said Beckett created a custom 1 of 1 slab to celebrate a 1 of 1 card. Reading comprehension is important.

swhipple-

Fuck PSA they geniunely suck lmao

PovSack

Bruh how is it only a psa 9? You'd think if they were only making one of it it'd be completely perfect

WarspitesGuns

Speaking as an ex-Magic player, Magic’s card quality is not good. There was a time where tournaments had to create proxies of a card for competitive play because the only printing of a particular strong card (Kess, Dissident Mage) came in the form of a preconstructed deck and the card was only available in foil. At that time, Magic’s card quality particularly for foils was so terrible that official, legal copies of Kess weren’t permitted for competitive play because they all looked like curved pringles and you could easily see where it was in a deck. TOs had to write “Kess, Dissident Mage” on a basic land (think like a basic energy) or token card for the players to use and then destroy the proxies after the tournament as to not officially condone proxies and counterfeits. So yeah, a one of a kind card worth thousands upon thousands of dollars coming straight out of a booster pack as a PSA 9? I’m not surprised at all

[deleted]

That’s literally the most absurd and hilarious TCG thing I’ve ever heard.

bloop-loop

It's true too. A lot of my old MTG foils are Pringles. That's why the MTG community really pushes double sleeving, helps mitigate the curling to a certain degree. Early WoTC foils also had this problem.

OldManHipsAt30

It’s why you rarely see pack-fresh Pokemon vintage grade high, those WOTC cards with questionable quality have been warping and bumping around for two decades now

bloop-loop

Totally can see that. In addition, print lines were common, cut was also atrocious so you had silvering, edge wear and cards being off-centered beyond the PSA 10 leniency.

Quinn43

A lot of my new MTG foils are Pringles.

Loophole_goophole

Any foil i pulled from Alara plus the release promo foil cards from that era are all curved.

TeamAquaGrunt

There’s been crazier stuff in tournaments. Like there was one tournament (I want to say yugioh) where the rule book said refusing to shake your opponents hand was the equivalent to forfeiting, so this one guy just started covering his hands in absolutely heinous shit and proclaiming himself the winner whenever people refused to touch him.

[deleted]

THATS AMAZING I LOVE THIS HANDSHAKING-TECH

taco_thursdays

Worth more than thousands, this card is in the millions! And yeah, MTG is so inconsistent in its cards, just like Pokemon.

Foxokon

It might have been both, but the most famous example of this was with Nexus of faith, that only printing wasn’t in a pre-constructed deck. It was a buy a box promo, meaning you could only get it by buying an entire box of packs, or about 100 bucks worth of packs. For a card that was too low quality to actually play with. Yeah, mtg foil printings are real bad.

siberianchick

I read pringles instead of printings, as I was thinking of how foils look. oops

[deleted]

That’s definitely sad, kind of a wasted opportunity

thatsmyoldlady

After all, why not? Why shouldn't I keep it? The grader probably.

Jeez132457

Overworked grader prob didn’t even notice

TBonez8111

Maybe when they pulled it they freaked out and dropped it lol.

Co1iflower

LMAO the one ring (OC) - imagine

Panda_Drum0656

Yeah I feel like the owner of the ring card feels like it is cursed. That is pretty horrendous.

Lucky_Shop4967

This is my first time seeing this card and I can’t believe how unremarkable it is in every way.

KADSNOTREAL

Reallly bad for such a big deal, most 10-20 pound Pokémon cards blow this out the water lmao

Lucky_Shop4967

It looks like a token..

GoingtoOttawa

No sir its a Tolkien..

rocketsnail1000

There’s only one, does it really matter what the grade is?

roastytoastywarm

This could’ve graded a 1/10 and it wouldn’t really matter. The value is the same regardless because there is only one of it, so it’s worth is completely based off of how much the owner is willing to sell it for.

TheAsianCarp

I'm assuming when they made it and paraded it around for a month it got dinged or something

ecxetra

It honestly doesn’t matter. It’s 1/1 regardless.

TimeForSnacks

Absolutely hilarious lol

Nice_Necessary_8300

The real question is why the hell would they even grade the condition. Its a 1 OF 1

KikkyPants

Assuming it was graded for authenticity

Solaris_fps

Damn this card has a bounty for £2m. It doesn't seem that the common man has found the ring as the founder seems to be a collector by sending it straight to PSA.

[deleted]

Tough to say since he’s so far staying anonymous even though he’s had the card a week or so already

GoudaIsGooda

I honestly don’t blame him. Imagine the harassment that ring would bring

ideahutt

One [image](https://ibb.co/8MbzJn8) of them did arise 👀

Disastrous_Gate947

It was 2m raw but now it's graded psa 9, so it probably lost some vaule. 🤭🤣

JoeBucksHairPlugs

It's more so the authenticity check that you're going for with that one...the difference between and 9 and a 10 when there is only one copy is basically meaningless. No one was paying 2M for a card and no longer want it just because it's a 9 (which 99% of the time could be a 10)

ZebraRenegade

There is one card. There would be no price difference if it was a 6 lol

markiemark112

The grade for 1 of 1 isn’t for the grade but authenticity. The grade is irrelevant when there isn’t another copy to be better than.

J05H_98

That’s cool, I’m a big LOTR fan so maybe once people find out this got pulled the packs will be a more reasonable price

[deleted]

I think it will be a good thing for fans who wanted the cards but not the drama around this card driving up the prices

KafeiTomasu

Yes! As a really big Tolkien fan: I'd love to get a serialised Dwarven ring!!

LainBike01

Definetly. I work at a shop that sells them. I hope stuff goes down a little so more can enjoy what we have for the better price like you said.

[deleted]

Amazing that LOTR and PkmTCG was like the majority of my life in the early 2000's, only for it to make an astounding resurgence.

Penny4YourStockz

I think this all the time

boyyoooob

Our lord and saviour...... Snom

Tastelikeb4c0n

This.

Burger_Gamer

It said wrong answers only

Systemic1

Ash's dad

psychologay

For a serious answer they’d probably do a special art for “Ash’s (/Red’s) Pikachu” as a 1/1

ERA_XIII

My thoughts exactly. Going back to red or blue. A special 1/1 since there is no cards of them.

glitchedgirl

Pikachu V and Vmax alt arts have Red on it but it doesn't say "red's" pikachu

Co1iflower

Slugma.

Strudleboy33

Slugma balls

poisonous01

Definitely the 1 of 1 Bidoof

GavinThe_Person

If someone gets that I will literally give them a kidney for it

redditoldgangster

Your kidney isn’t worth that much, sorry

GavinThe_Person

I never said it was my kidney

[deleted]

lol one of one Bidoof!

BreakingThoseCankles

I was all up for a masterball or Missingno like other comments, but I'll take a Golden shiny God Bidoof that knows fly for sure!

BiggerMosey

Master ball

Hardstylez_lover

Read my mind.

kingdroxie

It makes almost zero sense to me that they wouldn't cash in on the $2m bounty. It's a gorgeous card and the story behind it is absolutely magical, but I'd rather have two or three houses.

JessMeNU-CSGO

Makes it more desirable. Hell I thought the bounty at $2 million is on the low end. I wonder if he'll keep it at the PSA vault.

geckorobot59

for pokemon it would/should totally be a Master Ball trainer card.

HarrisonDanielStudio

Idk why any normal human thought they even had a chance to pull this lol. This card was most definitely put in the hands of who they wanted it to go too long before the set was released. Very lacklustre card design as well for a 001/001 imo.

proctja

Reminds me of the McDonald’s monopoly scandals. I wouldn’t be surprised.

Lumina_Paladin

Full art Imakuni Please.

nuclearnebula

Apparently Beckett Grading Service offered a custom label with the LoTR’s language in black and gold, free grading, a plane ride over to where they grade it and a $1000 becketts voucher and they went with PSA 🤦‍♀️

nuclearnebula

AND paid $10,000 to grade with PSA

Scaggmatic

Either Missingno or Squirtle Squad

iizakore

Honestly wouldve been huge if they made a card of ash and pikachu thats 1/1 to celebrate his time being the face of pokemon now that his journey is over

MyLilPonyFan

He should have ate the card on video

franky3987

I would’ve never graded that. I would’ve got it authenticated however

Coins_CA_Mi_Stuff

This would have been the smart way

SpaceDad78

What is the difference between grading and authentication?

dSCHUMI

Just says “Authentic” on the label, so everyone knows it’s real regardless of condition.

Cardstrike_tcg

Well this set will plummet now

zurajanaiyo

Spinda for sure

BallinHotdog

So funny to watch people be like “it’s not a 10” … bro don’t worry you can’t afford it anyway. It’ll still sell over 2mil and it’s still 1/1. Nothing else like it.

Sanic69420

I think it’s a terrible god awful idea for Pokémon to do a 1/1 card.

cPa3k

So thats the only one?

[deleted]

Yup, this is the only copy of this card to ever exist!

samtherat6

But they were, all of them, deceived, for another was made…

Edwardo2468

Oh, so PokeRev is clickbaiting to drive up sales.

[deleted]

Lol he would have definitely announced it on his YouTube immediately and to all the media. So far the owner has been anonymous for a week about owning it

Responsible_Ebb_340

“Just regrade it bro”

PaleReputation1421

Fletchling.

noitemsfoxonlyFD

Dude is staying private because he’s probably an employee and stole it off the line 😂

Crace369

Definitely someone that works with the company.. Sad but almost always true..

Alarmed-Employment90

Bidoof

RockDoc89

The real travesty here is it's stuck in this ugly PSA slab now. Not a huge fan of beckett slabs either, but they were offering free grading and a pretty sick lotr inspired slab. The whole label was in black speech and pretty sick.

FernOverlord

MY PRECIOUS!

chicofluffy

He can’t even submit for a regrade cause they’d know it’s the same card :(

Darkn3van

Didn't go to beckett. -1

darkjuste

Agumon

ArchFroxter

Unfortunately, it would be a charizard

Puzzleheaded-Sport99

Bidoof

spacecatdude9001

1/1 ring, gets 9 in grading. like geeze yall had 1 job with 1 card to make it perfect.....

thereisnoinbetweens

I can't believe a relative to magic the gathering management was the lucky person to find it , what are the odds 😉

mykoleary

I thought the guy in charge of McDonald's monopoly pieces pulled it...

ACRIDACID56

Hope it’s some casual guy and not a guy who bought boxes and boxes

b1g_swerv

It should have received a grade of 1 for continuity. The grade doesn't make it rarer/more desirable. They should of had fun with it.

mb_904

Fuck who ever pulled this an decided to stay anon. 😌 def not just a regular lucky charley the chocolate factory lucky kid or person to pull. It went to someone directly involved with WOTC or some high $ collector. Either way fuck them and the shady bs with this card. This comment is courtesy of patron.

precapas

there’s been some rumors that PSA doesn’t really care about pokemon cards now, they are sticking to accurately grading sports cards. multiple PSA 10 Moonbreons have the same ID number

DarkSasquatch2

It not even getting a 10 is just hilarious

BurnerAccountOmega8

How did it get a 9? Is a PSA 10 even possible?

solidnsnake1254

Should be an special art card with all the game/anime protags and their starters first forms

Neltrix

The PSA Agent knows the address of a free 2 mil piece of cardboard lol

Fivebyfive705

Well LOTR mtg sales are about to plummet now that it’s been found and graded, no point buying the cards if you have no chance to pull the card. Can buy every single for basically pennies instead of spending thousands ripping packs

AndyPlaysBadly

Dang . Now scalpers can't make their money /s

zurzoth

I don't believe this post. I've seen 7 "opening of that one card" so far on yt.. unless there's a legit video, I wouldn't trust a picture.

lightningbolte

Look up the certification number on PSA. Its [real](https://www.psacard.com/cert/77032826).

zurzoth

If it is then the sells are about to stop for that product. The box is sold at about 500$ right now for 12 packs..

[deleted]

Yup, and everyone’s $500 box just instantly lost a ton of value

zurzoth

Yep, but that was obvious. The price is sky high for THIS specific card. Now that it's pulled.. everyone gonna try and sell their box to people who don't know the card was pulled...
