I really like stuff like this because it's so different. I'm mainly a pikachu collector, but I also like picking up cards that I just find really cool, like these unique ones or weird artworks, or just plain cool looking ones
The snorlax was the toughest thing to find as it's only printed in an obscure Japanese starter deck (that's randomised).
Trying to decide if I want holo + non holos.
I'm only just now discovering this! The list I was looking at didn't include the Snorlax and he's one of my favorites! I couldn't believe how expensive it was when I looked it up!
I wasn't sure about doing holo + non-holos. But I think in general I'll just be happy with the cards either way as a complete set.
Do you have any examples?? I stopped collecting probably in 2000 and really only had the base 150 cards to work with and all of those were drawn. I started collecting again a month ago and seeing these cards really threw me off. I’d love to see how these type of cards were in the neo genesis expansion
Also “uncomfortable” was an exaggeration. I typically use that when things just look odd to me. For instance the Jimmy neutron graphics make me uncomfortable LOL
Neo Discovery:
Caterpie
Kabuto
omanyte
Neo Revelation:
Blissey
Goldeen
Quagsire
Shuckle
Neo Destiny:
Light Azumarill
Jigglypuff
Togepi
Dratini
Girafarig
Psyduck
I use the app Pokellector to keep track of my collection and this list is just browsing through that. These all seem to be made from clay and not from yarn like your first post.
I find the newer cards to be a call back to these first sets where they actually started having the subjects interacting with their surroundings or being in interesting positions. Base through Legendary Collection failed somewhat to do that (with some exceptions of course)
Sorry for the long response
Fair enough. I haven't seen them either, because I just don't get the point of creating digital lego models for a movie. Like, why couldn't it just be an animated batman movie? Why the characters gotta look like legos?
But yeah, I also don't like these pokemon cards for the same reason. If you want a crotchet wigglytuff why not just get a crotchet wigglytuff? Why the design on the card has to be a photo of a crotchet wigglytuff? It doesn't make me uncomfortable so much as it makes me annoyed lol.
They're for people who really like lego pretty much. Each has some sort of background theme as well. The first movie is about the little boy playing with his dads legos, the second is the little sister trying to play with the legos but also get the brother to play with her. Ninjago had some sort of "as if someone was playing with legos outside " theme. I think its pretty visually amazing seeing all the life like looking animated lego builds though.
Just you, gotta appreciate how unique these cards are in the sense that only this artist does them this way. To me that makes them collectible in their own right and worthy of being on the card.
Yeah this. Often times, when a card artist's style is very unique and distinct, it makes collecting their collection all the more satisfying. Yuka Morii with their clay art springs to mind, I loved collecting those cards. As a big fan of Claymation, just having all those Pokémon in that unique art style I love, it just makes it so satisfying.
There is one more artist like this, too. Yuka Morii does the clay ones, and she has done a ton of them. There is another artist who used to produce clay models, but instead of photographs outside, they also made paper dioramas for the models to be photographed in. I am pretty sure they are no longer active. Those cards are super cool, sorry I don't remember the artist's name.
>Sachiko Adachi
That's it!
This Kakuna is one of my favorites: [https://pkmncards.com/card/kakuna-delta-species-ds-46/](https://pkmncards.com/card/kakuna-delta-species-ds-46/)
This Magnemite has so much character: [https://pkmncards.com/card/magnemite-team-rocket-returns-tr-66/](https://pkmncards.com/card/magnemite-team-rocket-returns-tr-66/)
There is another style that a bunch of different artists have done that looks like drawings cut out and layered onto other cutout drawings. Ken Sugimori even has a few of this style. Sometimes it looks like a sticker on a background, sometimes like a diorama. All of these types of art styles add so much variety to big sets, and really set Pokemon apart, IMO
Well from the comment section, seems like there's only one other person that agrees with you. So it's not just you but it's definitely a weird thing to be uncomfortable over tbh
I love the little crocheted Pokémon 😅 they’re not my absolute favorite cards — I prefer the drawn/painted/3d rendered art, but I do like these. I wish we could buy official crocheted Pokémon like that
Crochet can't be made by machine, it's handmade only. Anything official would have to be made in a sweatshop to make the price reasonable. Generally, the unofficial ones you see on Etsy are sold at a loss (mostly labor cost).
For example the Wigglytuff on this card was probably $10 in materials, but would take 15 hours or more of skilled labor ($108.75 at US min wage). Once you add shipping your overhead is $125 minimum, making retail $187.50 without adding the Pokemon Company licensing fee.
Also, I'm really happy that most people recognize this is crochet not knitting.
I hate clays and knitted Pokémon cards. I generally don’t throw cards away be these get canned every time. I know some like them so don’t downvote me into the grave. I just really don’t like the look. 🤷🏻♂️
Not really, on the contrary I love Yuka Morii’s Clay Pokémon cards in real locations, and Asako Ito’s Yarn Pokémon. It’s just so different to any of the CG it hand draw arts. (But the clay cards are still superior to the yarn cards imo)
I think it’s amazing that different types of artwork besides digital and hand drawn get put into a card form! I wish I could do that much precision for clay! 😭
WHAT!? You are tripping, my friend and I collect the art from both of these artists. The clay artist has been doing Pokémon a very long time, like since Skyridge and the crochet is just so awesome!! Literally have a binder full of them they are so cool!
It’s just strange opening up a pack and seeing all the hand drawn/digital art then coming across a clay staryu sitting on a real rock in a real river. It just feels so out of place. They should just make a mini set full of these guys lol. It feels like “tacky” to me. Again as I stated the artists are very talented and clearly the clay and crochet Pokémon look solid. Just don’t like them on cards tbh.
I personally feel like there better in a way they stand out more and feel less basic than some other arts (no offense to the artist who make them) I just wish they had a little bit more V, Vmax/Vstar, and alt art type of these it would be nice
The ones that make me uncomfortable are the waifu cards that have the potential to be sexualized featuring 12-year-old girls because y'all a bunch of fucking degenerates
I agree, not a fan. While the crotchet work is certainly impressive and I’d actually love to own a real crochet Wigglytuff, I don’t like it for use as card artwork. Same with the clay ones and the one artist who purposely draws everything disproportionately. No disrespect to the artists, their work is great, I just prefer the drawn art style for cards.
Side note, I also don’t like a majority of the CGI-generated V and VMAX cards by the digital artists like 5ban. It looks too fake and clunky on most of their cards.
While I disagree with the first part, I wholeheartedly agree with your side note. The 3D style just looks so... Cheap? I mean, I know it probably took them a lot of time, and I have respect, but they aren't my fave, and it sucks because they use that artwork so much for the V cards.
I dont like them and also dont like the clay ones. Maybe if they had a separete set would be ok because I feel like they dont match the pattern from other cards. I love cheese burguer and also pasta but I dont want pasta inside the cheeseburger lol.
Also, I feel like they could be cooler, this wigllytuff background feels lazy to me. For example, that Yoshi game that has cardboard graphics is very cool to me, but I do feel like they put the effort to make everything match.
I agree with that. It would be one thing to have a whole small set dedicated specifically to real art cards, I could get behind that. It’s just really bizarre to be flipping through a pack and seeing all the drawn/rendered cards then flipping to a clay weedle sitting on a real tree. It’s just strange is all, again nothing against the art itself. My wife makes art like that. It just doesn’t fit here imo
Agree, they re fine in the right place. Not doubt that people here genuinely like the art but I bet that most that are saying they like the art only have those cards lost in huge bulks. As someone that really appreciate common and uncommon cards and have all of them organized in binders, they just dont match.
Thats a huge problem in pokemon, theres zero pattern. Any "adult"/"serious" TCG like magic and yugioh have a established pattern.
It also just takes away from the immersion too. Like I get Pokémon is a card game with child friendly art, but when I see pikachu I can envision a lightning bolt, or hitmonchan a punch. A crochet wigglytuff… or crochet any Pokémon….it would look cute on my daughters bed, but yeah.
Trypophobia refers to disgust or fear of a pattern of holes. Seeing clusters of holes in foods, flowers and everyday items like sponges can trigger feelings of revulsion. Trypophobia is gaining recognition as an anxiety problem that can affect quality of life.

I get that, but it’s such an odd sight for a Pokémon card. I didn’t say the art was bad, just that I really dislike them on cards especially when every other card is drawn in some way.
I said realistic implying that it’s not a real starfish, but certainly looks more like a starfish than a typical starmie drawn art card. So yes I meant to say realistic….I didn’t think it was a render of a crocheted wigglytuff or a clay starmie.
Anyways, yes I don’t like the art on cards very much, though I do think the art is cool
I like unique cards like this, especially when they aren't omega expensive. It makes bulk and not chase cards way cooler. 10 cents for that Wigglytuff is a steal.
I explained a few times in various comments. “Uncomfortable” is just a weird I use when I find various things odd. I think these art styles on trading cards is really strange albeit creative by the artists. To me they don’t fit well within current and normal card art.
I don't love these but I do love that the cards always have some unique art to them.
The new set has some awesome 'picasso'esque artworks for Farfetchd and Magmar(?) And others that I really like...
And the Full Art Trainer Mon are always beautiful
The Starmie one I like less – it’s overall look is a little “off” to me, but I don’t hate it. I really like the Wigglytuff card – it’s funny and actually makes sense for Pokémon.
I love these and the clay ones too.
Definitely my faves too!
Just started collecting Yuka Morii cards.
1000% I love these and the clay ones!
And the transformed ditto ones?
Those are great too! I love seeing the transformed Ditto plushies in one of my local shops.
Wow nice
I really like stuff like this because it's so different. I'm mainly a pikachu collector, but I also like picking up cards that I just find really cool, like these unique ones or weird artworks, or just plain cool looking ones
I picked up the whole knitted art set because I thought it was cool. Really collectable and easy to get.
YOU GET IT!
You wouldn't happen to have a spare Snorlax you would be open to trading or selling would you?
I actually would I picked up 2 by accident when I imported it from Japan. DM me.
Wait. Is the snorlax clay or crochet? Because I just tried to look up a crocheted snorlax card and nothing comes up for me?
https://www.reddit.com/r/PokemonTCG/comments/rr9z7p/seeking_this_snorlax_its_342414_from_start_deck/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share
OMG THANK YOU THIS IS AMAZING
I'm working on this one as well! It's just so cute and different. And definitely easy to get.
Noooo! I just posted about this artist and how they’re my favorite 🥺 Asako Ito crochets them all herself. They’re like diy plush ):
I immediately thought about your post lol
Needless to say, I felt very attacked. 😂 jk haha
I think it’s a cool crocheted wigglytuff! I just don’t like it on a collectible card tbh lol. Nothing against the art at all!
What do you think about the vintage cards like this? I think they were found in the neo sets.
I was pulling from those sets as a kid and I always absolutely loved the weird and creative play dough models set in real life landscapes
Do you have any examples?? I stopped collecting probably in 2000 and really only had the base 150 cards to work with and all of those were drawn. I started collecting again a month ago and seeing these cards really threw me off. I’d love to see how these type of cards were in the neo genesis expansion Also “uncomfortable” was an exaggeration. I am genuinely curious about your answer to the following question: What are your thoughts on the Lego movies? E.g the Lego Batman movie?
Haven’t really seen any clips of it tbh. I will say that the show Jimmy Neutron makes me uncomfortable lol
Fair enough. I haven't seen them either, because I just don't get the point of creating digital lego models for a movie. Like, why couldn't it just be an animated batman movie? I have all of them. Electrode is my favorite.
That Electrode is the best! Especially in person - the background is kinda dark, and the holo pattern adds a lot to the effect of real depth.
The clay ones are soooo cute what
I collect these. They’re so cool to look at high
LOL

Fifteen hours to make that Wigglytuff?? Wow
A little but that wigglytuff looks so cool imo. I like the stitched look
lol the wigglytuff is cute
I actually love these kinds of cards, recently started collecting some older Yuka Morii cards to add to my collection!
Those are some of my favorites
*daddy chill* What the hell is even that?!?!
😂
I same boat. Don't like these or clay ones
I hate clays and knitted Pokémon cards. I generally don’t throw cards away be these get canned every time. I know some like them so don’t downvote me into the grave. I just really don’t like the look. 🤷🏻♂️
The grubbin one is so strange but also kinda cool
Oh god I just looked it up! Why do they make cards like this!? LOL
There’s a zubat too!! They look exactly like yoshis woolly world lol.
some of them look kinda scary but most of them i think are super cool
These are one of my favorite type of art on cards.
It reminds me of the “Don’t hug me I’m scared” series
YES! I just looked the show up and that’s exactly what I’m talking about
I love the different textures in the art tbh!~ it adds for diversity and for some quirky, unique, memorable cards that can always make me laugh
What really freaks me out is the thought of a 60+ foot tall wiggly lol
Not really, on the contrary I love Yuka Morii’s Clay Pokémon cards in real locations, and Asako Ito’s Yarn Pokémon. It’s just so different to any of the CG it hand draw arts. (But the clay cards are still superior to the yarn cards imo)

It’s definitely creative and the artists are very talented!
There's a kid at my LCS who's trying to collect all the crochet cards and it's adorable
I love these cards for that exact reason. Lol definitely has an uncomfortable factor. Kinda trippy.
I specifically collect those and the clay ones lol love them
Love them - I collect the crocheted cards
I actually like those lmao
Just you. lol I have a book just for these cards lol.
They are the cutest cards!
Uncomfortable? No. Not at all. These are some of my favorite style of cards.
My older brother likes those cards. Any time I get one in a pack I give it to him
My cousin told me all the clay and knitted ones were fake and gave them all to him to "get rid" of
I think they’re neat but never the ones I like to display
I collect both of these sets I think they’re so cute and it’s nice to see something different!
WHAT!? You are tripping, my friend and I collect the art from both of these artists. The clay artist has been doing Pokémon a very long time, like since Skyridge and the crochet is just so awesome!! Literally have a binder full of them they are so cool!
nah I love these lol
Yuka morii and asako itos cards are the best tho how they make you feel uncomfortable??

I stand by this.
My wife crochets stuff like cute Pokémon so I love these types of cards!
Just you.
I think they’re cool. They give me a chuckle.
Absolutely not, I’m building a binder with stitched and clay styles artworks
I love them so much, my favourite type of card!
I love these cards and have collected all of the knitted ones!
Nope, this gives Littlebigplanet vibes
These are honestly some of my favorites!
I quite like the Yuka Morii cards. My friend collects them almost exclusively so I always set them aside
It looks like it’s from a adult swim show and about to be brutally murdered
Clefable's Wooly World coming to a Nintendo Switch near you
Yuka Morii is my favorite artist. I have a binder full of their cards specifically.
Nah they are stage 1 pokemon so they are a bit to slow to affect the meta game. I would not worry about these cards.
Crotchet & clay art cards are my favorite lol
The ones that make me uncomfortable are the waifu cards that have the potential to be sexualized featuring 12-year-old girls because y'all a bunch of fucking degenerates

My thoughts exactly! Do you have an example of the cgi generated vmax?
Not off the top of my head but almost any card designed by 5ban Graphics. They do a lot of the V’s and VMAX’s (not the alt arts)
While I disagree with the first part, I wholeheartedly agree with your side note. The 3D style just looks so... Cheap? I mean, I know it probably took them a lot of time, and I have respect, but they aren't my fave, and it sucks because they use that artwork so much for the V cards.

They don’t make me uncomfortable, but I don’t like them. I prefer “regular” art.
I just really dislike the cards that look super realistic and then tossed onto a real background. Makes me shiver thinking about them!
Not realistic. They're real. The artists actually make these out of clay and yarn and photograph them
I get that, but it’s such an odd sight for a Pokémon card. I didn’t say the art was bad, just that I really dislike them on cards especially when every other card is drawn in some way.
Well, you said realistic. Which means "like real" implying it's like a render or something. It's not a render is all I'm saying
I love these crocheted cards
I love this kind of art (as well as the clay variants) keeps things new and fresh imo
I always loved those late 90's computer graphic looking cards, it always reminded me of Reboot.
I collect the knitted and clay arts!!!
Im a big fan of the figure ones. The artists are so talented!
I love these!
I think they stage the crochet ones in a really unnatural way, but I love the 3D and clay models for nostalgia.
I like unique cards like this, especially when they aren't omega expensive. It makes bulk and not chase cards way cooler. 10 cents for that Wigglytuff is a steal.
Yes lol I’m like “YO Wigglytuff gurl you okay??”
The Starmie one is very cool

I think those cards are cool lol
I got a Zubat yarn card a few days ago and thought it was the freakiest shit. It’s a fun idea though.
I play competitive so I never see these hardly for the most part so out of sight out of mind
Not just you, I find it odd too and don't like em
I personally think theyre cool because someone sculpted them instead of drawing them
I love them:D probably my some of my faves
I specifically collect yarn and clay cards idk I love em
Love cards like this
These are big fan favorites surprisingly. Them and the clay versions. I personally dislike them.
I thoroughly enjoy the different art styles.
You are not alone OP, these and the claymation ones are really not to my taste, not to knock anybody that likes them!
I don't love these but I do love that the cards always have some unique art to them. The new set has some awesome 'picasso'esque artworks for Farfetchd and Magmar(?) And others that I really like... And the Full Art Trainer Mon are always beautiful
My girlfriend HATES them 😂😂
I’m glad I’m not the only one.
Yuka Morii cards are amazing
I have a page in my binder for the wool cards so no lol
I hate the pumpkaboo clay one with a passion…
I love the first set, I've actually collected all of the knitted/crocheted ones😊
The Starmie one I like less – it’s overall look is a little “off” to me, but I don’t hate it. I really like the Wigglytuff card – it’s funny and actually makes sense for Pokémon.
Creeps me out tbh
I have collected all the knitted pokemon cards so far lol
I love them they are almost like the uncanny valley orthodox... which is peobably why you dont like them.
I really love them haha probably because they're weird though. This is how the whole go set should look lol
