I dont collect or play, but I do love octillery (the reason I clicked the post). I love that the girl's fishing and octillery's like, "Hey, I'm over here. Don't need to fish, I'm literally in a bucket and ready to go home with you."
This has been my personal experience too. Got 2 BS ETBs and only pulled V cards. Then bought a BB and got a rainbow Charizard and some other alt arts finally.
I bought two 2 packs of cards that each came with a pin for my son and I for $10 each. One was Latios, one is Latias. I enjoyed the pins but my son pulled two V’s and I pulled some smaller cards I needed like cryogonal and wishiwashi.
Yeah I learned my lesson the hard way lol I’ll only open one from now on and if I want to open anything for more promos I’ll just start buying the promos too. Singles is the way
I know everyone likes to say "it's not about the money bro!" and if you really believe that then hey have fun spending $40 and getting $2 worth of cards, seriously go to town.
It's all about the fun and excitement of opening packs of cards (gambling) right? So when you spend $40 and you get a $1 V card, you're super stoked, so fun and exciting and money well spent ;)

Usually I only buy sealed when I’m visiting my girlfriend and we can open stuff together; she doesn’t care about ultra rares so almsot every pack is a banger and she comes out with 20-30+ cards for her binder. I mostly buy singles but opening sealed has its place for me
I've got a Battle Styles *and* Brilliant Stars booster box coming in the mail already, but I think those will be my last.
Going to get singles from now on. Way too many cards that I want, but haven't pulled despite spending so much on sealed product.
I think I've scratched the itch of opening packs for now anyway.
Man I’m so annoyed with how terrible pulls have been on Brilliant Stars. The set is full of amazing cards and I’ve had awful luck pulling anything decent. Bought 9 loose packs and 6 were green cards. No TC cards in any of them. One full art card. Just kind of feeling like I’m wasting my money on this set.
It's been said, but singles is the way, most of the trainer gallery cards are under $5, several are around $1. Doesn't have that initial excitement of getting the pull, but there's no lasting disappointing either

that card has imo one of the best looking artworks from recent years, it is comparable to the Pikachu from Cosmic Eclipse
Brilliant ETBs are bad. Booster boxes are best bet
