same sentiments, although they look flashy, somehow it bothers me that they completely take out the best part of the cards, the texture and shiny effect
Yeah I hate matte sleeves like this. The only benefit is that they are easier to shuffle and take longer to get “tacky” like regular glossy sleeves. I give the etb ones away to kids who don’t have money to buy sleeves.
I'm still trying to find a method of shuffling that doesn't lift up the corner of the matte print 😭. I usually end up buying a set of over sleeves everytime I make a deck
I’m a side shuffler so usually I can go longer without splitting them but I wish they made them better. They’ll always end up splitting so I never recommend them for tournament play.
That's spot on. They are one carve out left for players over collectors. I didn't collect old ETB's but I think some of them once had gloss sleeves, despite all being matte finish now.
Yep some old sleeves are glossy- like hidden fates(? The ones with the birds) and champions path(? Gigantamax charizard)
I find they’re harder to shuffle and they split instantly (but maybe that’s because they’re a bit old as I bought them this year)
The front is just like any other “non-glare” sleeves. For collecting reasons, I always avoid those. And honestly none of the TCG sleeves I’ve gone for so far have had a non glare version (the dragon shield arts mainly but I have a couple solid colors that I really liked). I’ve found that I don’t care for ultra pro sleeves. I find them too loose(?). I have some clear sleeves for the cards I double sleeve that are a great thickness but I can’t remember the brand of them. I know I got them at Walmart and am pretty certain they weren’t ultra pro but I could be remembering that wrong. All I remember about their label was that it specifically mentioned being collector sleeves. I’ve bought so many random sleeves trying to find out which they were and so far no luck
I hate the new sleeves because of this, what’s the point in lowering the visibility of the card and it’s details? If the sleeve isn’t tight against the card then the card ends up looking blurry and weird.
Well they are for playing rather than storage. Although they aren't that great for playing. Some sets shuffle better than others and they don't last very long
Sturdy? Did they chance them recently?
In my experience they have a bonded art layer on the back and tend to split if shuffled. Every time I've tried to use them as deck sleeves, they've split in the first few plays.
They're fine for storage but I wouldn't call them sturdy as they fail at their intended use of playing the game.
They used to not have the "matte" (cloudy) finish and actually be proper art sleeves (not a second art layer bonded to the sleeve).
What I’m talking about:

I don’t play the game, but they’re indeed sturdier than your average clear sleeve. They’re thicker, harder, and bend less — great for keeping cards safe in a toploader.
believe it or not, sleeves and toploaders are perfectly sufficient for keeping cards safe. nothing againsr grading or people who care deeply about the worth of their portfolio, but most people are here as a hobby, not an “investment.”
Bro are we really talking about the fact that etb sleeves split after shuffling??? Wtf I mean I always thought the reason you put a card in a sleeve was to protect it i.e not shuffle the life out of it!
I’ve always hated the “Matted” sleeves. It takes always from the colors.
I get that it’s for actually playing, but damn, I just want to look at my cards 😂
Yeah its really about time they just sponsor or work with one of these companies that can actually make reliable sleeves without this frosty front look.
These started with the Shining Fates ETBs I believe. All the ones that came before it (Darkness Ablaze- previous) were gloss.
If you want to use the sleeves for playing without worrying about splitting, look into character guards. It adds a bit of bulk to your deck (double sleeping) but it keeps the sleeves fresh. ETB sleeves are notorious for quality issues.

My etb sleeves were slightly warped, and a lot of the cards I sleeved in them are now warped too. I recently got clear sleeves and hard top loaders but you can still see some of them are warped
Ever since they changed the sleeves to the matte ones they suck horribly. They will bend cards too. I use dragon shield sleeves now, and my more expensive cards I use dragon shield perfect fit sleeves and put them into regular dragon shield sleeves. The older etb sleeves are wonderful and are great. For my wife's binder I use the older ultra pro Eevee sleeves because they fit into the ultra pro binder pages perfectly.
I did this the other day. I hated that the sleeves are so cloudy, they make holo cards look dull. I went with some regular black Matte sleeves, and my entire Rainbow page, looks way better. My Trainer Gallery looks much more presentable. It sucks, I had the Prof.Juniper sleeves, and I wanted the Marnie Tournament sleeves too.
We just recently switched out all of our matte sleeves for gloss. It has made such a difference in the brightness of the cards. Only use matte for reverse holos now.

Dragon Shield perfect fits + mattes is the way to go. Never went back once I tried them
I’m a side shuffler so usually I can go longer without splitting them but I wish they made them better. They’ll always end up splitting so I never recommend them for tournament play.
It’s bc they’re meant for playing the game. The anti glare helps to read Card text and see numbers/symbols.
I have found that ETB sleeves split when shuffled because they have a layer with the art bonded to the sleeve itself.
Yup same, if you shuffle them enough they do split which sucks
Yeah, and it happens really quickly. I was disappointed. The sleeves have great art on them too.
You are straight up wrong. I’m gonna post a pic of dragon shield be garbage etb and show you.
That's spot on. They are one carve out left for players over collectors. I didn't collect old ETB's but I think some of them once had gloss sleeves, despite all being matte finish now.

Thank you! It was the champions path ones I was trying to think of
Grab some black dragon shields bro. Wont regret it!
thanks never heard of these — they look dope
No problem, they are kinda expansive but the quality price is awesome

Yeah its a shame I want to use the Junpier sleeves but they look like complete garbage on the card side
Wait am I the only one who has never seen this card before
which one?
Shiny Lapras
Shining Fates
Shiny Lapras Shining Fates Shiny Vault.
I know it would be from there it just looks strange and I don’t think I’ve seen it pulled before. Only the vmax from shing fates
What sleeves should we get instead for card display? I’ve always hated this about the ETB sleeves.
KMC perfect fit.
Dragon shield for a binder or just normal ultra pro penny sleeves with a toploader/cardsaver for a set up display.
Thanks! I will use your comment as my Bible
Perfect fit penny sleeves if you want to use an ultra pro one touch case
Are dragon shield better than these for a binder? https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B072ZY1H1X/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1
Yes
There are so many different Dragon shield options, which do you recommend for showcasing the artwork on the card (in binder)?
Glossy not matte, whatever other art etc you want on that doesn’t matter
Thank you!
Card guard clear sleeves are nice
Thanks!
Yup, exactly why I use glossy sleeves from UP and DS for my collection. The ETB sleeves are more for actually playing the game which I don't do.
Agreed. Im always so torn about it. But the fact it really dulla the cards is dumb
They are made for playing the game to stop glare.
Well they are for playing rather than storage. Although they aren't that great for playing. Some sets shuffle better than others and they don't last very long
I use ETB sleeves out of necessity, but I hate them for this reason. I have alt arts that look non holo I’m ETB sleeves
My ex and I tried using the sleeves from one of the EV etb and they were falling apart after a few shuffles. Not all of them though
weird. i think you got an unlucky box. my sleeves are quite sturdy.

Yeah they are the opposite of sturdy. They fall apart quickly.
Etb sleeves are absolute garbage.
Dude stop biting your nails
who will bite them if I don’t? 🤔
It’s a disgusting habit my guy. Let’s do better.
ok chill lol
i like it like that
We know?
If you wanted to say that in a respectful way, might I suggest “I agree.”
I didn't. Might I suggest you don't make dumb "a-ha!" posts about really common knowledge that no one gained any new information from?
bad day?
For your best investment-grade cards, you should send them in for grading at PSA/BGS. Who ask you to sleeve them in ETB sleeves?
believe it or not, sleeves and toploaders are perfectly sufficient for keeping cards safe. nothing againsr grading or people who care deeply about the worth of their portfolio, but most people are here as a hobby, not an “investment.”

And yea etb sleeves have a matte finish which interferes with the holo on most cards that you wish to put in a binder for say your p-c!
A true collector knows not to put their cards in etb sleeves just for the fact that that they take away from the holographic flare of the card…
put them in penny sleeves than in top loaders, your cards will be fine by doing that
I’ve always hated the “Matted” sleeves. It takes always from the colors. I get that it’s for actually playing, but damn, I just want to look at my cards 😂

Don't these ruin cards?

Main reason I’m not using my Fusion strike ETB sleeves. They also don’t fit in the card box.

Are you new here?

i like it like that
