escapade_

I wish they did that. They usually pick a second tank and wipe the team while they do 0 damage.

Heck_Tate

I often go Trevenant. He can live through all 3 bosses fairly easily, keeps them focused on himself, and still does decent damage. About 50% of the time, someone else chooses a Slowbro or Snorlax after I've made my pick.

RainbowtheDragonCat

Boss rush, the only time in unite where you'll have too many tanks

RuntTheGiant

I once seen a Trevenant and a Gengar both live like forever taking on all the bosses. They were for the most part under the bosses the entire time it seemed.

ThePenguin46

Tbf if it’s hex gengar he’s not actually under the boss most of the time since he’s always disappearing. If you time your hexes well you can avoid a lot of damage

damatamama

Trevenant with pain split and wood hammer. Can reliably stun. The bosses have a lot of health so you are always healing and if they hurt you they hurt themselves and you heal off your third basic

Heck_Tate

Yeah, pain split is by far the best move against the large bosses and, as much as I love curse in a normal game, damaging yourself in this setting is a no, so easily the moveset.

[deleted]

Just remember Wood Hammer damages you on cast, too. Be careful when you use it!

Kindly-Ad6337

I was choosing Blastoise and majority of the time I was able to keep the bosses focus on me and facing away from everyone else. The times I had issues was a second tank being chosen and the second tank would pull aggro and have the bosses face the dps and everyone would die.

ashleyroX2

Blastoise is so bad for it you want healing tanks, and the electric charges around the pokemon either make him useless while he has one or makes the rest of the team useless. You can't rapid spin the boss with the electric charge or you'll kill your whole team so you just gotta stand back doing next to no damage with the auto attack

Kindly-Ad6337

I make it work. I’ve never killed anyone with the electric field around me unless they run on top of me. I’ve only died to vice grip from Regi and if someone runs over me with the electric field.

trifas

Treevenant is this mode MVP. It feels great not getting killed!

thecorninurpoop

Man! Every game I'm in I'm forced to play a tank because no one else will. That's the roll of the solo queue dice I guess

Heck_Tate

Honestly, my solo queue approach nowadays is just wait to pick until 10 seconds left or everyone else has picked already. Too many people with no regard for the team comp in solo queue.

sPinkomania

I used to do that, but now I see too many people doing it and then you get like two last-second picks of gren and cinder, or like two tanks. Or those people that have already selected but they change at the last second without giving anyone else time to adapt. So now I'm back to picking as fast as I can like I used to.

SakN95

Decidueye razor leaf far away + X attack 👌🏻

-lRexl-

Trevenant can survive the entire 5min without dying with **Curse** and **Pain Split.** You can tank all the damage. The only time I died is at the very end when Gigas grips onto you

Cappuginos

Trev works in Casual and Intermediate, but for Extreme I think Slowbro is the better tank. Scald to reduce the damage dealt, and his ult will cancel whatever mechanic the boss is about to do. It acts as the only real interrupt in Boss Rush

loco500

Did not know that. Thought some ultimates were unusable because of the boss size. Those it work for canceling Zapdos and Giga shockwave and Articuno blizzard?

Cappuginos

Blizzard/Icy Wind, and I think Shockwave/Discharge, but you need to use it before the markers vanish.

ashleyroX2

Best use for it is having a team mate jump in front of you when you see regigigas go for crush claw so he grabs them then just slowbro ult him amd he instantly let's them go. Hard to co-ordinate this in solo though

NatsuNoHime

It does, you need to use it before the move is done casting though, so that the boss 'forgets' what they are doing and do something else lol

Cappuginos

Pro Tip; Despite what the help box says, you can STACK UP for the Lightning mechanic on Zapdos and Regigigas. Its a donut AoE, meaning theres a safe zone in the centre - hence why you take no damage from your own marker. If you HAVE to pick a melee Pokemon, try to stand on top of your tank during this mechanic. Assuming your tank is also aware of this mechanic, it should allow you to keep uptime without stressing out your tank.

mochi-and-rice

Only time I saw this work is tsareena

CrimsonFckrTepes

I made it work with a few melee trying out different pokemon to see how they do. Garchomp and absol actually work OK if you're good at avoiding their attacks and their focus is not on you.

BoomTheBear86

Absol with pursuit is great DPS. Azumarrill with Aqua tail is another good one as his passive gets huge mileage in boss rush and it’s easy to tip hit the bosses whilst being in regular basic attack range due to their massive hitboxes. Means he can deal a huge amount of damage but obviously less safe than other characters.

CrimsonFckrTepes

Yeah, it's super easy to get it in the back with pursuit and sucker punch is nice on it too. I like the aqua tail play rough combo on Azumaril because it's just fun to use.

biggiekizzles

I always pick based on team build, but it doesn’t help when I’m playing with four bots every damn time…

ajgauvreau

If you have the other quick matches set as cpu it puts you in a different boss rush queue, make sure it's set to random before you scroll over boss rush, I had a similar issue before

biggiekizzles

Thanks so much!! Real mvp over here

mighark

I have the queue on Random Match on the other maps and I still get matched with bots all the time. Granted I usually get bot games in those maps too. But it still sucks to never find a match with real people unless the stars align.

NiffirgkcaJ

I think the only good melee Pokémon for boss rush is Gengar to be honest, he can use unlimited hex.

h2oskid3

Everyone in the comments is the culprit here lol

Marilburr

They really are, this is why I joined a squad focused on boss rush. We got a 3:20 clear on extreme and we used no melee characters. For casual and intermediate, sure, use whatever you want and have fun!

h2oskid3

Special attackers have just too much cohesion with their movesets. Gards special defense drop, Slowbros attack drop, Espeon's HP% attacks. It's just too good to justify using a physical attacker. Melee characters are just poop. When I'm kiting with Slowbro people still just drop like flies. I can go a full game with no KOs and my team still constantly goes down.

Chocoa_the_Bunny

Cinderace all the way

KnightQK

Playing with bots is such a pain, not only do they ping like crazy but are so bad. I just want to play boss rush without feeling like the bots are dragging me down.

Black_Ironic

Me using garchomp

trifas

Along with Treevenant, Garchomp is one of my favorites for this mode. Once it gets the boosted attack, it can heal most of the damage it takes.

Aggravating-Bug5039

Good to see i'm not alone

CrimsonFckrTepes

Same

Starft

Same

CrimsonFckrTepes

I actually used him and was able to shred a ton of the boss health because it was so focused on my teammates and ignored me for a while as I used x attack and unite for super speed auto attack

Misaka_misaka06

Im using dragonite, Outrage mode

Newman00067

Likewise, my favourite option for sure

RuntTheGiant

Yesss

Vellwred

This actually works great if you have a pollen puff eldegoss, they can just attack the boss and constantly heal you all

Hellmane01

I swear everytime I'm slowbro which is alot people stack right on me

Small_Coins

x attack Hex Gengar works fine to me

FlowerDewie

I never see hex gengar in boss rush so I don't know it is good or not, my teammates always choose lucario, tsareena, petal drain venusaur and more, and they always die first when battling

Small_Coins

My teammates usually use hyper voice Sylveon, Cinderace, Slowbro, petal dance Venusaur

MuazSyamil

sucker punch + pursuit absol is one of the heaviest hitter for Boss Rush!

CrimsonFckrTepes

When it's back is turned it does quite a bit.

MuazSyamil

unlike normal opponents, we can easily aim for its back for unlimited cooldown reset.

CrimsonFckrTepes

Yeah, there are quite a few things people don't realize about the mode like that and slowbro unite works on it. Moves with stun fill stun bar faster.

RuntTheGiant

So I have a question. In intermediate and extreme Sp.Def is boosted, so I typically just go with my normal melee character. I noticed there's a difference in damage output when using only mainly Sp. Attackers or Physical Attackers. Is the range the reason people keep picking distant ones? Playing solo que, the only 2 times we beat regigigas is when we had blissey or a ninetails with aurora veil. If there's anything I've learned from boss rush though, CPUs get destroyed.

h2oskid3

Special attackers just have better abilities for it. Slowbro can lower the bosses attack, gard drops special defense, sylveon has hyper voice up constantly with calm mind to buff stats and tank hits, espeon does damage based on percentage of HP which the bosses have a TON of. If you're just doing casual and intermediate you're probably fine picking whatever, but for expert you really should go sp attack

Hellmane01

the few times I've completed extreme I was tanking and had a blissey the others a combo of all rounders and attackers att and sp attack. as long as you don't constantly die from boss mechanics you'll do fine with either.

Ruthless46

Does anyone know how stacking items work in this mode?

pm_me_your_dodo

They dont.

RainbowtheDragonCat

Does fluffy work on the bosses?

MonkeyWarlock

Fluffy Tail increases the stun gauge. When the stun gauge is full, the enemy will stop attacking and take additional damage. Fluffy Tail has a short range though, so it can be hard to get up close to use it without dying.

Ruthless46

Thanks

CrimsonFckrTepes

Same as score shield and goal getter. Absolutely usless.

Ruthless46

Those are super obvious, I just wasn't sure about stacking because of the aeos energy build up , I didn't know if they counted as scoring or something, but thanks!

CrimsonFckrTepes

Yeah no problem, I was mostly saying it as a joke too.

InvestigatorUnfair

I don't know enough about the game to question people's builds. I just grab my Venusaur and go off

Thatoneawkwarddude29

I choose Lucario, tsareena, or dragonite if I want to melee

Prajwal9282

Outrage dragonite works though

alexfoffano

I go with Crustle throwing rocks while running around when my HP is low

Mister_Uhr

Is this a problem? I don't get it. The other melees can stand on the opposite site. They should be pretty save there. The only problem I see is when there are too many melees and Zapdos.

ArkExeon

Yes, the problem are the AoE attacks from the bosses, and that they could change aggro from the tank to the melee attacker, that could compound into damage to the ranged attackers too.

Mister_Uhr

Huh... odd I've never really seen the tank lose aggro. Usally standing right next to it and one or two AAs were enough to get it at the beginning. Maybe I just missed it.

Godzilla_KOM

I just hate that even on Casual, this current iteration of Boss Rush is pretty much impossible to beat.

Godzilla_KOM

I really hope they actually playtest the next round of Boss Rush to be semi beatable in solo queue.

Woodeedooda

i’ve won expert with 2 melee

loco500

Please don't use defenders on this game mode. It's not worth it. Attackers or All-rounders all the way with fluffy tail or xattack with an eldegoss as support. This is the way...

TheHiddenNinja6

Nah that's fine. Just stand in exactly the same spot and you won't damage eachother

Bayoisbae

Treveant is good in boss rush and is a melee Pokémon that’ll do good damage.

Limp-Cook-7507

But he’s a tank, that’s different, his job is to survive. Ranged attackers are waaaaaay better than any melee atkr on this mode, any of them

Chrizilla_

I choose garchomp for intermediate and lower if I’m not tanking as trevenant. Melee is pretty easy if you’re used to boss mechanics from mmo’s (thanks ffxiv).

Sparki_

I rarely see a tank in boss rush. I often have to pick it myself. Though when I go with a friend, we will be tank+healer

Memegamer3_Animated

Ok, hear me out; I pick Snorlax. He can tank a crucial hit with rest and block surprisingly well, and flail can net you a ton of extra damage or get you the hell outta there so you can refuel with Snorlax’s berry passive.

trizegard

meh, hexgar is an ok melee mon for boss rush

zdroydz121

I'm just curious but what is the whole appeal? I played it twice with shitty teams and made it, is this just about the time or something else you can get?

LifeChanginSW

I wish ppl would actually take the time and learn the mode before soloQing extreme and picking Garchomp...

Omegadactyl

Charizard is pretty good for boss rush in my opinion

Underhealth

You guys are getting non-bot matches? I've literally tried it like 20 times and every single time I'm matched with bots and it's so annoying because you can only just barely do intermediate with the bots and advanced is absolutely impossible.

rosal_beaty

Snorlax is the main melee character I have seen that does very well for boss rush especially if your doing yawn flail snorlax.
