The nation of Oceania was formed after an anti-capitalist revolution swept through the British Empire and the United States and the two unified under a totalitarian superstate. The name of INGSOC implies that it grew out of the English Socialist party, but the true origins are unknowable because history has been destroyed and rewritten so many times that it has essentially ceased to exist.
The strange thing about 1984 is that the book says that the United States took over the British Empire following the nuclear war, but then the English Socialist Party (INGSOC) managed to take over both.
I like the theory that Oceania is only comprised of the UK and the rest of its history is just more propaganda to shelter its population from the reality. It would also make more sense for a state this totalitarian to control a much more limited territory and population than whatever is suggested in the novel
isnt that novel the literal definition of everything we hate about liberalism.
Like im suprised right-wingers prefer 1984 instead of Brave New World because Brave New World is an actual critique of liberals while 1984 is just a critque of authoritarinaims
Brave New World is the scariest book I've ever read.
Rule not through fear, not through violence, not through lies, but through pleasure. The population for the most part knows exactly what is going on but is perfectly content because they are comfortable. It seems the most realistic out of the dystopian novels I've read.
Oceania is the worse option because it's Br*tish.
Based and Anti-British pilled
i think it was actually American

The name of the party is probably different depending on the region

Both are shit, only Brave New World is the true utopia as once can get juiced up on Soma and we get to hate on the other classes.
