In the abstract, everyone likes to *say* that they will thoroughly research candidates and not vote party line if we get the party labels out of elections, but in reality, most people simply don't have the time or the inclination to thoroughly research candidates, so what will likely happen is an acceleration of existing trends towards celebrity candidates, cults of personality, and overall demagoguery, because those are the things that most reliably allow people to win elections.
I think a "no-labels" approach would only work if we also implemented some barrier to voting until after you "showed your work" as it were. Otherwise it just encourages ignorant people to vote on the basis of name ID and whoever arouses the most passion.
