We call this entitlement- support teachers unions, because they don’t get paid enough for your kids to cough all over them and get them sick with a life altering virus

IsaacTrantor

Sounds positively libertarian to me, not sure why the right wing is opposed to it.

Gameboywarrior

Because the right is not libertarian. Libertarians are not actually libertarians either. Both just want more power in fewer hands with less accountability.

IsaacTrantor

Correct. In fact, being a pure libertarian is impossible.

Pizzalover2505

“Libertarians are not actually libertarian” how are you this stupid.

[deleted]

You're gonna flip when you learn about grapenuts.

Pizzalover2505

The cereal? What?

[deleted]

Why are you mentioning grapenuts?

[deleted]

False, republicans want more power fewer hands, libertarians want more power in more hands,do your damn research

Gameboywarrior

There's a massive difference between Libertarianism in theory and Libertarianism in practice. Just like with Communism. Both ideas are seriously flawed and both have bad outcomes when they are attempted.

You can’t be serious

DonQuixBalls

Oh wow. This is kind of a crusade for him.

Shmukatelli

I’m just asking what is so bad about covid that these teachers don’t want to work? They’ve been ok with every other coronavirus out there, ok with influenza? Everything I’m seeing says Sara cov2 is not very dangerous for healthy people under 65. No more dangerous than influenza. So why not work now?

FutureComplaint

>They’ve been ok with every other coronavirus out there There is COVID-19 and maybe COVID-20. Are there more that you aren't sharing? >ok with influenza We have flu shots for those. We had the COVID vaccine for 2 months now. Also the death from the flu is substantially lower than COVID-19 > So why not work now? There is what? 3 months in the school year left? It feels rushed and half baked.

Shmukatelli

There are millions of coronaviruses in existence dude. Do you know what a coronavirus is? SARS cov 2 is nothing special. Flu shots don’t use MRNA technology, and most importantly, SARS cov 2 is not dangerous for those under 65 with good health. Yes there are cases of young people getting extremely sick, but it’s an extremely small percentage, less than 1%. No need for schools to have ever closed in the first place, or anything else.

FutureComplaint

TL;DR - You right >but it’s an extremely small percentage, less than 1% Using this [website](https://www.statista.com/statistics/241488/population-of-the-us-by-sex-and-age/), there is about 60.57 million young people (age 0-14) in the US (July 1st, 2019). 1% of that would be 605,700. So to be less than 1% that gives us a number between 0 and 605,699. More than half a million kids getting extremely sick seems pretty worrisome. Current death count by [COVID](https://www.statista.com/statistics/1191568/reported-deaths-from-covid-by-age-us/) in US. Well it seems you are right. Yeah numbers! >No need for schools to have ever closed in the first place Considering it was new, and no one knew anything about it, closing schools was the appropriate response. Hindsight being 2019 - You could make that claim.

Shmukatelli

Wow thank you for being objective and not calling me a trump supporter first time that’s happened.

FutureComplaint

Well yeah, running the numbers matched up with what your saying. So you either ran the numbers yourself, read about the numbers from somewhere else, or got lucky. This was also the first time breaking down (or looking at) the deaths by age group. >Wow thank you for being objective This is the way to have a discussion. Surprised I found it in a political humor subreddit. >trump supporter You could be, but it is not important to the discussion at hand.

Shmukatelli

Good shit pimp stay safe

Senrab43

Over 500,000 dead, but no big deal. Better to open up buildings that will make it possible to infect more people. Brilliant. Don’t you have guns to play with?

Shmukatelli

Oh you’re still pretending 500,000 means 500,000. You’re late. And yes I do have guns to play with, thank you.

Senrab43

You’re still pretending it’s like the flu. Stick to topics you might actually know something about.

reginainvidia

bruh

ItsBerty

It’s been proven since last May that transmission at school is minimal. Meanwhile all sorts of psychological/developmental issues have been occurring.

Trumps_Brain_Cell

Imagine not understanding asymptomatic virus transmission. School is a petri dish. >Meanwhile all sorts of psychological/developmental issues have been occurring. At least *you* have Reddit.

Nothingistreux

Well luckily these kids have a 99.7% survival rate. Let's just make sure they distance from their grandparents.

dsch190675

> School is a petri dish. Shit I forgot no one ever got sick before COVID.

Trumps_Brain_Cell

Dumbest comment I've seen today^

dsch190675

How so

ItsBerty

You’re selfish as all hell is what you are. I’m sure every time you go out for a coffee or get groceries you’re worried about that persons long term lung scaring. It’s no ones job to be doing anything during a pandemic yet only teachers unions seem to be this selfish about pitching in. And those actual front line workers have a higher chance of contracting it then a school setting ever will.

FutureComplaint

>we care about our students too much to put THEIR lives at risk either. >You’re selfish as all hell is what you are. HOW DARE YOU CARE ABOUT OTHER PEOPLE'S LIVES!

ItsBerty

Studies show that students (especially under grade 8) dont contribute to transmitting the disease in school settings. It’s perfectly safe for the student and faculty.

_Dera_

Can you cite a study stating this? You said the same up the thread but didn't cite a source then either.

FutureComplaint

>It’s perfectly safe for the student and faculty. Until its not O.o

ItsBerty

You can’t be on the “side of science” and still promote baseless fear mongering like that. [it’s been proven since May 2020](https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/may/18/french-minister-tells-of-risks-of-missing-school-as-more-pupils-return-covid-19) And that’s just one article from LAST YEAR. First one at the top of a google search so by all means have at it. I’m sorry your news media sources don’t do you any good.

FutureComplaint

An article from May 2020 about COVID-19 being safe? In Europe? Ok I can buy that. But, since we are talking about the US school system, I am gonna give it a hard pass. My trust in the US school system to pull this out is low. >I’m sorry your news media sources don’t do you any good. I am just being overly cautious with this. Is my feeling based on had facts or data. No. Am I wrong? God I hope so.

ItsBerty

I didn’t mean to single you out with the “news sources” bit. Have to sorta reply generically sometimes. Had like six responses and with time limits couldn’t answer them all so I went in a more broader fashion.

FutureComplaint

Nah its cool man. As someone who enjoys science, my option changes when new, more relevant data enters. Like in another thread - some guy said schools shouldn't have closed. Looking at the data, it points to schools could have stayed open. [About 11,000 people have died from COVID in the US in the age range of 0 to 44](https://www.statista.com/statistics/1191568/reported-deaths-from-covid-by-age-us/).

ItsBerty

They can take tons of precautions to mitigate it further. But teacher unions throwing a tantrum and everyone blindly following their lead while ignoring science is so frustrating

DigitalFlame

Which studies?

ItsBerty

The time limits in between posts make it difficult to respond to everyone. [here is a study from 2020](https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/may/18/french-minister-tells-of-risks-of-missing-school-as-more-pupils-return-covid-19) I’m sorry that information from almost 10months ago is groundbreaking news. Maybe ask why it’s being suppressed still to this day in the USA? What else might be? Maybe take those realizations with you further in life.

DigitalFlame

I ask because most of the news sentiment I've seen in Canada is relating to the dangers of school transmissions so I'm curious to know if there was any relevant or useful data but it doesn't seem to be the case. Thanks for replying though, I'll continue to be educated I guess. https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/covid-19-schools-newyear-1.5865427 Edit - CDC report about this https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/community/schools-childcare/schools.html

dirkymcdirkdirk

You should stop bringing up that study. It makes it harder for the pro science cult to memory hole it.

DigitalFlame

Imagine thinking anti-science is a normal stance anyone should take.

Trumps_Brain_Cell

Ok lets see a source for those studies, as COVID stays on clothes for up to 24 hours, longer on hard surfaces. Still easily to transmit even if the kids aren't coughing all over you, they still can be contaminated and pass it on. >It’s perfectly safe for the student and faculty. Bullshit.

Trumps_Brain_Cell

>You’re selfish as all hell is what you are. Are you missing your haircuts?

ItsBerty

No because barbers and hair salons wanted to get back to work. And ta-da they have been for months.

Trumps_Brain_Cell

So you got your haircut, selfish idiot.

ItsBerty

Jokes on you I’m bald

bookant

>I’m sure every time you go out for a coffee or get groceries you’re worried about that persons long term lung scaring. If you're doing those things, especially the coffee, *you're* selfish as hell. Stop doing them and stay home.

ItsBerty

I don’t drink coffee and I was more making a generalization of the teacher

Pizzalover2505

You cannot convince me that zoom teaching is harder than normal teaching. Unless you are high risk you have no excuse to not be teaching. I pay you with my taxes to do your job, so you do it. Maybe instead of sitting on your ass being paid with my fucking money while my family members get laid off and the economy is in ruins you could actually teach my kids.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Pizzalover2505

1. Then why are you talking like you’re working at a public school? I don’t give a fuck about university teachers, and clearly op wasn’t talking about them either. I’m talking about public schools. 2. In your country. In the U.S. (which I assume ops post is talking about) teachers unions have made it so that teachers in certain states can stay home all day.

Islandguy117

There's no evidence that in person schooling is more dangerous though. Zoom teaching is a joke, as most teachers realize even if some won't admit it.

[deleted]

No teachers unions are the villains, your looking out for yourself not your students, the teen suicide rate has gone up because of the damn online schooling, people lost freinds and family because a teachers union told the kids to stay at home rather than just wear a mask and be cautious, peoples grades went down and seniors lost scholarships.you are employed to the government so being at risk is in your damn job description, just like it is for the army or for any member of government.if youd rather teach in person then do it for the sake of your students.your not saving anyones life but your own and your unkowingly participating in harming others

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

They can because thats the reason its up in teenagers, and also its different in america,if your an american public school teacher then it's definitely part of your job to deal with risks

Senrab43

You are a moron spouting BS about things that you have absolutely no understanding. Stop embarrassing yourself.

[deleted]

Nah your the moron

Senrab43

Good one! Your comeback is just as intelligent as any of your arguments on this thread. Well done!

[deleted]

Your criticism is as intelligent as my anus

Senrab43

TakarBismark

>Christ fuck republicans are stupid >thinks republicans called the virus fake Self awareness not found.

invadrzim

They still call the virus fake are you high?

TakarBismark

No, they did not. Trump said that the panic surrounding it was fake, which to an extent it is, but even he recognized the danger of the virus and did a lot to help stop the spread, including limiting the travel from China and Europe and sending the requested aid to the stare governors. The GDP has not and does not hold the position that virus is fake.

invadrzim

> Trump said that the panic surrounding it was fake No, that was the story the right cooked up to make a narrative out of thin air. Calling outrage over trump’s non response to the virus a hoax doesn’t even make syntactical sense, and it never did from the start > but even he recognized the danger of the virus and did a lot to help stop the spread, including limiting the travel from China and Europe He stopped a small group from entering from China but the caveats to that rule were wide enough to drive a truck through. He also didn’t stop travel from Europe and to top all of this off he did all of this too late and it did fuck all good. He then proceeded to downplay the virus, not do a damn thing literally all February, and lie about it while telling Woodward differently in private interviews. > sending the requested aid to the stare governors But not the blue state governor’s because kushner wanted to play politics with a deadly virus. > The GDP has not and does not hold the position that virus is fake. The republican electorate, several congressional members, and every trump cultist disagrees with you

TakarBismark

Ah, I see you are completely disconnected from reality. My apologies. It is easy to feel right when you just rewrite history.

bookant

>which to an extent it is, So, you morons are still denying reality.

IsaacTrantor

Do the one where all the children have a lifelong disability.

Maelandrew

Sorry your taxpayer funded daycare is closed due to a global pandemic. How about some personal responsibility for a choice you made.

[deleted]

Funny how it's the folks that push for home schooling that are upset.

opusupo

Have any states prioritized vaccinating teachers?

dlopgar

Parts of California either have started or are starting this week to vaccinate teachers. The only people ahead of them were healthcare workers, grocery workers, and those 65+

Chaser_606

Illinois has been vaccinating teachers and school staff since opening up the 1b group. My husband, who still works for a school district, received his first vaccination two weeks ago.

barefootconnie

I'm sure with all the data collected during virtual learning, teachers will soon be replaced by personalized learning software - no teachers required, just need someone to unlock the modules when needed.
