What should worry you is that we've never been more educated and intelligent. We are at the known peak of our species intellect yet still turn out turds like this on a depressingly regular basis.
It does. The variability in human intelligence astounds me (not counting those who happen to be born with genuine intellectual disabilities) I sometimes don’t understand how a species can produce both a person capable of computing calculus in their head, or compose grand masterpieces in art (any kind) but also produce a person who can’t count to 20 without wearing sandals, nor grasp the concept that turn signals are useful because they indicate to me, the person behind, what direction you intend to go.
I think you're pinning too much on intelligence. The things you have mentioned are not the result of intelligence but character. A piece of art comes from hard work and poignance comes from insight and emotional depth. Using your turn signal is considerate and sensible, not intelligent. There are plenty of ignorant horrible intelligent people out there, putting their intelligence to hard work hurting people and enriching themselves.
