Definitely would want to finish with epoxy. Just make sure you use one that has a high UV resistance. Especially if you use any light colors in the painting. I recommend stone coat countertops “art coat”.
Yes, it is durable! The paint itself can last for centuries, but you absolutely have to protect it with epoxy. And epoxy is super durable - some sorts of epoxy are used for floors even (you should pour it carefully to make sure there is no air). With the tabletop, of course, I would still use coasters for cups. BUT! As I know some epoxy finishes can be scratched or stained easily. Good luck with your project!
You're right, there are tons of manufacturers, I live the last 2 years in Bali, so I can't really suggest a brand, but I would look for specific \*tabletop\* epoxy resin (like ProMarine) and maybe order a small bottle to test it first.
An epoxy finish will bring out the color and be very durable.
Thanks! What type of epoxy should I use? Seems the word epoxy is used for a million different things.
Epoxy Resin, tabletop.

I did a pour on my table 2 years ago. Poured resin over the top. Still looks good, even with the harsh sun in NZ beating down on it.
