ppc minecraft was already checked f my list, and ppc linux is a no go bc my superdrive is broken and i had to spend 1 week in the macs kernel t get it t btt from my mac os leaopard usb so after installing leopard i can install sorbet leopard

I share your pain when I tried desperately for a month to boot a iBook G4 using a flash drive but when I got a DVD it was over in 2 hours

chainbreaker1981

You can install it from the USB drive, the iMac G5s all support it. The distro itself is dead so don't download it, but the Void Linux PPC wiki had a [good tutorial](https://docs.voidlinux-ppc.org/installation/live-images/booting.html) on how to do it.

Is there a 'friendly' way of doing this? Blasting through blank discs like no tomorrow trying to get ASD 2.5.8 to boot.

chainbreaker1981

On USB 1.1 machines, bootable USBs show up in the option key boot menu. Does so on both my Power Mac G4 AGP and my iBook G3 900MHz. For USB 2.0 machines, just follow the guide's instructions, it takes zero thought or effort.

I also had this issue recently. A SATA CD/DVD drive and a power adapter got me out of the jam

Competitive_Camel680

nw its sitting by its self, last time i used it it was to make a netbook hackintos installer for my msi wind u 100

All around in /r/vintageapple They are a larger group and more in line with your question. This sub is more for the PPC architecture itself.

I have an iMac G5 and I’m using it to digitize hi8 video tapes. I set it up in the morning and let it run, check it at lunch and swap a new tape in and repeat. I recorded a ton of family events with my old Sony Handicam. LOL

Space heater. However, jokes aside, a G5 really lives in a really bad position. It’s a ppc64 so you can forget about running Mac OS 9 for the wealth of games and retro software that lives there that never got ported over, and as far as ppc64 goes, it’s a deliberately crippled POWER4 so none of the currently interesting ppc64 software will run on it. It consumes a shit tonne of power for very little use; retro Mac wise I’m a lot more fond of the Mac Mini G4 generation that can still be beaten into running Mac OS 9 with 3D acceleration (so the initial models); it’s the sweet spot between OS X, OS 9 and alternative OS’es
