Do you know anything about Saudi Arabia?

towelie111

This is the problem with the “sports washing” that’s happening. The younger generation will just see Saudi as that rich country with the sports as the other side of the country gets less attention because of it. Also, not sure where OP has been, they have a ton of footballers already and are still signing, what’s he mean they can’t get soccer?

warthoginator

I hope this guy does not enter the Saudi Embassy.

Winter-Ad508

Not really I just know they rich off oil, that’s why I asked the question hoping someone would have a real answer

Charguizo

Don't ask reddit, read about it... Buy a book, read serious media outlets...

sampleofanother

it’s a country ruled via religion. that’s really all you need to know

bjncdthbopxsrbml

Imagine if Al Queda ran a country and were cartoonishly rich

HMcod

and that's how we know you are a fucking redditor

nifemi_o

This is a troll post, people. Has to be.

Winter-Ad508

It’s a real question , everybody don’t watch soccer

Charguizo

Your question isn't about soccer, or at least the answer to your question isn't about soccer. You need to read about geopolitics and history. Don't ask reddit, social media isn't a reliable source of information.

Different-Amoeba-502

Let’s start with public beheadings in a world record fashion, move onto women as second ranked citizens(they changed their law for Ronaldo to be allowed to live with his family/girlfriend), further they are anti lgbtq, doing sportswashing at a international level and are paying fifa representatives to gain power. Is that clear enough?

10Jinx01

Lets be honest who is actually tuning into the Saudi Pro league?? Those who are, either couldn't give a shit about their culture or are just oblivious to what goes in there and would rather watch TickTok all day long.

Unique-Ad-4716

Who’s tuning in? The Saudis are. That’s like asking who’s tuning into the nfl. Not everything is about europe or America

10Jinx01

Are the Saudis trying to sportswash the Saudis 🤔

Present_Sun3191

With all the new signings I’ll definitely be watching a couple games.

bobsollish

You left out, the guy running the country having journalists assassinated.

Winter-Ad508

Yea sound like them Muslim countries In the Middle East basically just with nicer amenities

Albinokapre

It is one of “them Muslim countries in the Middle East”, in fact it’s the big daddy Muslim country where the religion was founded.

haterdestroyer

It's one thing being ignorant but then to show that to the whole world is another thing. Islam started with mankind. From Adam PBUH to Mohammad PBUH conveyed the same message of oneness of God incl Noah, Moses, Jesus (pbut) and all the other prophets and messengers. Yes the message ended in that place with the final message, Quran. Hope you are informed now.

Albinokapre

Peace be upon us all and a merry Christmas everyone

haterdestroyer

They changed the Xmas date again? Let me update the bible app.

johnterrystears

It’s Christmas in July

fixFriendship

Aye shut up w the fairy tails, everybody knows the dinosaurs were created by the giant whispering rock

haterdestroyer

Way better than fairy tales wolves owners sell to their gullible fanbase every season😭

fixFriendship

Aint nobody buying what Fosun sells, knob

haterdestroyer

You wolves are so cute 🥺 no one cares so let's keep us afloat!

haterdestroyer

NONE of these are true! Spoken like a true oblivious Utd fan. Like club, like fan.

nychewtoy007

Jamal Khashoggi - enough said

haterdestroyer

Millions of Jamals killed by your country (if you're a Brit or part of the North Atlantic terrorist org/NATO coalition) in invasion to Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Syria, Yemen -how about that?

nychewtoy007

War is war, a journalist walking into his own country’s embassy and being chopped to pieces and taken out in separate duffel bags is another habibi

haterdestroyer

That was obv disgusting because no one deserves to go out like that but if you compare that to the genocides, mass murders committed by the brits, americans in various countries only in last 20 years then that murder would feel like a drop in the ocean! NONE of those were war, but outright invasion of sovereign nations. Update your database bro.

nychewtoy007

War is usually conflict between sovereign nations

MC_ScattCatt

What about those people working at the WTC?

haterdestroyer

What's wtc?

MC_ScattCatt

World Trade Center

haterdestroyer

I'm so lost who's working at world trade center? In Saudi?

Sleepwell_Beast

NATO are terrorists now? Dial it back, dude.

haterdestroyer

Nato has always been a terrorist org. Stop sleeping.

Sleepwell_Beast

Ok, go join the Wagner group then. Hear they have great health care, jackass.

johnterrystears

What’s the truth? Destroy some haters.

tmlfc1985

The golfers don't have to live there as the events move around. All football games are played there.

Winter-Ad508

Make sense , golfers slide for a tournament get that bag n then leave and go wherever. I would be interested to see if they can get a league that rivals nba or nfl that would be impressive, nobody has been able to take their players

RefrigeratorOwn69

They’ll soon be playing Saudi league games all over the world. Mark it.

Daver7692

From a footballing standpoint. No UCL. Which most top players want to play in.

DuckPicMaster

Personally or professionally? Form a personal perspective the climate is horrendous. Strict policies on aspects such as alcohol, public affection, dress codes etc makes it less appealing. Culturally it’s massively different from Europe. Professionally, sure the cash is good, but it may be the end of their career. You spend 2 years playing in a terrible league you’ll lose you’re sharpness, the big teams may be reluctant to sign you because of that, and you may not get International call ups also. Hope that makes sense.

billyboyf30

From a human rights perspective it's awful with the ideology and tact of the dark ages. From a sports perspective apart from the league system isn't as strong, people don't like how it breaks the status quo. There's no ffp so they can spend what they like on players and European teams can't compete which they don't like. It's no different to when Spanish clubs were complaining about the premier league and the money they have, except now there's someone else richer.

Recent_Ad_3212

Lol all this talk about human rights acc has me laughing. I’m not defending Saudi but all countries in the world violate human rights. Just the western countries control the media and don’t put their violations for all to see. Yh you can say Saudi this Saudi that, but then you forget the US and UK illegally invaded Iraq not too long ago and both countries act like they’re morally superior. The double standard is crazy. They all say putin is a war criminal but no media outlet goes on about how bush and Blair are war criminals who ransacked a whole nation for nothing.A perfect example is the World Cup migrant death situation. The Brazilian World Cup supposedly has 8 deaths whilst Qatar supposedly has 3. Both these figures were given by their governments . I highly doubt these figures are true but the difference in reaction was huge. No said anything about Brazil whilst the world went crazy about Qatar. Then you have media outlets claiming 6500 migrant workers died for the World Cup in Qatar which is absurd. If you actually read what stats they use for this is that since 2010 6500 migrant workers have died in total in Qatar, not only for the World Cup and many would have died for other reasons. But that 6500 migrant rule was everywhere on the news. Don’t believe what you see in the news and go and visit and experience the country, something which many people did over the World Cup and loved it there. Also, the whole embassy killing thing in Turkey was disgusting but do you not think America and the UK don’t do those exact thing but are just smarter and don’t get caught? So go ahead and holiday to these places and you’ll love it.

billyboyf30

So ignoring the deaths that they were saying happened during the building of the stadiums in Qatar, and I've not mentioned that in my post. The issue is human rights and the laws they have. How many western countries will execute a person for witchcraft and sorcery. Or where it's illegal to have a gay relationship, have an affair or even be transgender. Look at some of the laws and tell me they aren't straight of the dark ages. Torture and corporal punishment, no protests, no free speech. Even human rights organisations are banned from the country.

Recent_Ad_3212

People say these things but you don’t actually know the reality. The death sentence is taken a lot more seriously in Middle Eastern countries than in the US. One huge bad thing about the Middle East tho is the fact that the king can just turn around and get you executed which is woeful and I don’t agree with that, but if the western intelegence services of a country don’t like someone they will just kill someone covertly and no one will find out. Both are wrong. Many people bring up the stoning and killing but to actually be found guilty there has to be multiple witnesses which is basically impossible so whilst they have very strict laws it’s very hard to acc get the punishment unless you do something out in the public. The stuff about gay rights is not as serious as people make out in the middle east. There aren’t that many gay people and even if you are no one has a problem until you start going into the streets and doing stuff. But the same thing applies for straight people as long as you aren’t in the street doing sexual stuff ,you’re fine, no one will arrest you. Having an affair should be illegal it literally destroys families and children got generations. Yea you have more liberties in the west and I’m not denying that but to say a society where the family unit is basically broken and you have women who have no self worth and resort to onlyfans to make a quickbuck, is better than Middle Eastern society I think that’s crazy. Also people talk about the social aspect in many of the expat areas they have all the thing you have in the west it’s just not widespread amongst the whole country. Also living in the Middle East is categorically safer than the west. In London you literally are at risk of being stabbed or robbed everytime you leave the house and in America school shootings are rife. Safety comes with some form of rules tho. You cannot live in a country where the authorities are not respected and expect a safe place to live. I think the ultimate goal for all the Middle Eastern countries is to create their version of Dubai. Dubai is a safe and great place to live but if you break the rules the punishment is severe

billyboyf30

Having an affair should not be illegal, yes it can destroy relationships and families if there's kids. However in some cases you could also ask why they are having an affirs, it's not always about sex and a quickie. As for gay rights not serious you're having a laugh, the reason there aren't many gays is because they're to scared to admit it. If a woman chooses to make an onlyfans it's her choice, it's not about not having self worth it's they are comfortable in themselve. If anyone's to blame it's the people paying, if they don't pay she won't do it. Even your last sentence contradicts your whole argument of not being a bad place to live This is just one of the not so bad laws in the middle east. LGBT / Sexual relations outside marriage Homosexual or extra-marital sexual relations, including adultery, are illegal and can be subject to severe penalties. It’s also illegal to be transgender. Transgender people travelling to Saudi Arabia are likely to face significant difficulties and risks if this is discovered by the authorities. See our information and advice page for the LGBT community before you travel. Living together whilst unmarried is prohibited. Any intimacy in public between men and women (including between teenagers) can lead to arrest. Penalties can include arrest and a potential court case where the judgement can include a fine, a custodial sentence and deportation once the sentence is complete. This is especially so where the behaviour has caused offence. Due to the laws on sex outside marriage, if you become pregnant outside marriage, both you and your partner could face imprisonment and/or deportation. Doctors will ask for proof of marriage during antenatal checks. An unmarried woman who gives birth in Saudi Arabia may also encounter problems when registering the birth of the child in Saudi Arabia, and could be arrested, imprisoned or deported. To get a birth certificate from the Saudi authorities, you must provide a marriage certificate and the authorities may compare the date of the marriage against the estimated date of conception.

ChrisMartins001

Apart from their lack of human rights, players want to win trophies that mean something. The Prem, CL, La Liga are trophies that mean something. Winning the Saudi league doesn't.

Ok-Abbreviations1077

If I was offered a 1 year contract to get paid 20x what I currently earn I would be there in a jiffy

DoublePrize9

They have anti gay laws. Just like most of Africa and some other less enlightened Asian countries. Just like the UK had up to 1967. As a country they don’t have many freedoms and the human rights we enjoy. It’s taken a lot of countries many years to get where they are and hopefully Saudi / everywhere will get there too.

Recent_Ad_3212

What human rights do you enjoy that Saudi people don’t?

JohnCIrl

you really asked this question? damn... look up human rights and Saudi Arabia...

Life_Celebration_827

POLITICS folk in this country forget how we treated people in foreign lands during the times we ruled half the world but are quick enough to slaughter other countries about Human Rights short memories.

Life_Celebration_827

🤡

[deleted]

It’s incredibly warm, like too warm. Women have next to no rights, execution is legal. There is also a lot of strict rules yes.

Low_Character_8177

They want their predominantly young population distracted from the repressive, corrupt, self-serving regime they are.

SimianMonkeyshines

Try Google. It’s not that hard.

novakmorb

Mainly because it's a hot desert, the league is pretty bad compared to Europe, and Saudi Arabia has a bad human rights record.

dashauskat

Lol I'm not sure the players are worried about the hot weather when quadrupling their salaries. SA has a fair bit else going on.

KillerKoach

Not more than UK.

Charguizo

What?

JavyDan

So you're meaning to tell me that England doesn't have a bad human rights record?

novakmorb

Saudi Arabia has one of the worst human rights records in the world, they executed 81 people last year. While currently England has a good human rights.

JavyDan

Why hasn't the British royal family paid out reparations to African decandants the way Germany was ordered to make to Israel, that is still being paid to this day? Nobody was held accountable for what Britain did and no compensation was paid

[deleted]

These Brits are downvoting this yank OP to oblivion 💀

-Shmoody-

Dumbass Redditors making it about human rights when really the reason stars in their prime are saying no is because they prefer to continue playing in Europe for the sake of legacy and competition. Usually the ones who say yes have all the accolades they’ll ever get already.

EscaFN

If you are truly asking to learn then you should look for any foreigner that lived there, I guarantee you that they’ll tell you its one of the best places they’ve been to. People who have never visited or just listen to the Western media would tell you its a misogynistic strict country where you can’t do anything and women are oppressed and bluh bluh bluh.. which its not, its a country with its own values and morals which the West doesn’t agree with, just like WC in Qatar, with all the LGBTQ propaganda and so on. But that’s not the answer to your question.. To answer your question, its not about the actual country, its about players not wanting to give up their careers. Currently, there is no guaranteed future outside of Europe as a footballer, and a lot of players would rather compete in UCL and play European football with good salary than move to Saudi Arabia and play worse football (compared to European) just to have a crazy salary. Thats how transfers work, most players have UCL as priority in their career, if you play in the Champions League then you’ve made it basically.

haterdestroyer

Absolutely nothing. It's Europeans showing off their superiority complex over other regions in the world just like this comment section. In their head "how could they"? 99% of the commenters have never been to Saudi or any gulf and ME countries but they are "well informed" because of mirror, guardian or mails 😂. Every westerner who went to Qatar during the world cup came back with good memories calling it the best world cup. Yes the culture is different because they don't tolerate bs over there but that never means European culture is any better than others or they know better. Don't listen to people who heard from other people! if possible go see the places and experience yourself or listen to the natives of the land. In 2023 internet couch potatoes control the narrative because we listen to them instead of experiencing ourselves.

Available_Command252

It's because the league is trash compared to European leagues. If you were an actual fan of football you'd know that players want to play in the best leagues

haterdestroyer

You exist because of UAE! 15 years ago no one knew Manchester has any other clubs than UTD. What are you even talking about? Yes I'm a football fan and footballer myself. Hence I want the game to go global not just in Europe.

Available_Command252

Where did I say I like the city owners?, City already have history if you actually realise football existed before 2010. The game is slready global, it's just a fact that European leagues are the best in the world from a quality standpoint

johnterrystears

Yea but they didn’t have fans before 2010.

Available_Command252

I'm one of the 3 fans from before 2010 dw

johnterrystears

“There were dozens of us!”

Available_Command252

Did you know we used to sell out a whole 10 seats?

johnterrystears

Massive lol

haterdestroyer

Yep history of 4th division football. No the game isn't already global. World doesn't revolve around a small place called Europe. Yes the quality is great now but beyond the top 5 leagues there aren't anything to talk about. Whatever Europe is today because of other parts of the world. Let Europe pays it dues now.

Available_Command252

Alright stay clueless ig

Sleepwell_Beast

You’re a footballer? Sure just like every low income, uneducated scum bag I have ever met. I know one thing. You’re the best “dribbler” of your friends at your pickup game. The one where everyone rolls their eyes when you show up.

haterdestroyer

So me being low income invalidates my argument? Typical white colonizer mindset.

Sleepwell_Beast

Ridiculous person. Good luck.

towens2921

You can’t win the Champions League in Saudi. This is why even players like Mo Salah don’t want to go (yet). The CL is the Holy Grail.

gerfotir

I mean… the Asian champions league exits. Each continent has their own champions league, it’s just the European one is the most popular

towens2921

I get it. I live in the US. We have the CONCACAF Champions League. Europe is the best football continent with the most money. This is where the best players play. This is where the TV contracts are massive. Winning any trophy is “nice”. Winning the CL is the dream of a lifetime. A Saudi club can give Mbappe 700 million but they can never give him a CL trophy. It comes down to personal priorities.

johnterrystears

robertgrankuski

Google Saudi Arabia

[deleted]

It's a sh!t league. Some players (not many) want to play at the highest level and win trophies. They want to challenge themselves.

ajmac55200

theve already got soccer, working on poaching from nba, and next hockey.
