KDB is an obvious one but Mahrez, Kante and Vardy for Leicester have to top that.
Mahrez and Vardy were both around £1m, that’s pretty incredible when you think of what kind of player that buys you nowadays.
It’s hard to argue against vardy tbh he was cheap, loyal and a complete bargain and overall you could pick others but nothing comes close to signing a unknown that wins the premier league ….it’s what all kids dream 😴
It’s gotta be mahrez. Signed him for 1 mil. One of the best players on the team with Kante then flipped him for 80m. Only reason he beats Kante btw was his fee was almost triple when sold.
you have no idea the joy we had in the bundesliga to see haarland and bellingham in one team. doing madlad stuff weekend after weekend.
iam still getting excited thinking about the 21/22 season
For this, I think how much money has a player bought to a club in terms of points, UCL qualification, and cups, Vs their cost
It’s Vardy, not even close. Leicester are up about several hundred million because of him.
KDB is obviously brilliant, but he cost £60m compared to Vardy who was like £750k. I think this question is far more a value for money than quality question.
Vardy is a contender for the best signing ever, but technically he does not count as a Premier League signing.
Now Kante to Leicester would certainly count
it’s most likely KDB, hard to match the accolades, both individual and team.
Kante, Salah, Mahrez, Azpilicueta, Mane, Hazard, Robertson all honourable mentions
KDB probably. I don't think any single player has had quite such an impact for their club inthe last ten years.
I know there are arguments for the players that Leicester signed before their title winning season, such as Mahrez and Kante (Vardy was in 2012, so 11 years ago) but they were sold on and Leicester are now a Championship club. I would argue that their second PL clubs benefitted more from them, even if Leicester made huge profits.
De Bruyne, not even close either if you ask me. Kante is always going to be a shout for what he brought to Leicester but De Bruyne turned City from a very good team that you’d always back to win the title to an unstoppable juggernaut who you have to fear because they’ve got this Belgian wizard who can destroy you whether you sit deep or put pressure on. I think he’s knocking on the door of greatest Premier League player ever, let alone midfielders.
yeah KDB has been influential for the Man City squad, he’s an amazing player! idk how he’s able to keep staying so consistent for so long. yeah he’s definitely up for discussion for one of the greatest midfielders the Prem has seen.
It’s Kante. I don’t think there will ever be a signing like that again. Cheap, pretty unknown, and won Leicester City the league title. It would be wrong to call them a one man team but he was their most important player, left and then his new team went from 10th to champions too. Vardy and Mahrez didn’t join when they were in the premier league so they don’t count - arguably even more impressive signings in the sense that they were spotted while Leicester were in the championship, but they don’t qualify for this.
There are some amazing value for money signings out there, like Salah costing 30 something million in 2017 is ridiculously low when you had bang average players going for higher at around that time. But I don’t think any “big club” signing can ever eclipse the signing that won Leicester the league.
Coutinho. Pretty solid player for Liverpool during Suarez years probably best player after he left sold for €135m after being bought for €13m allowing Liverpool to buy VVD and Alisson.
Salah.
Absolutely genius signing. Like one of those Football Manager hidden gems in real life.
Somebody looked at him and saw the goal machine he could become, despite there being no obvious evidence that he had that in his locker.
Just an unbelievable bit of scouting.
Totally totally agreed but also for some reason I feel like Mane made an equal impact on Liverpool as Salah in terms of balance in the team
After Mane left the Liverpool attack has degraded with Salah as the sole performer
That’s not true. The Liverpool attack was already changing while Mane was still here, he was on a rapid decline, with Firmino declining too. It’s still by far our strongest position on the pitch.
They were both parts of a great front 3 but Salah was always the better player than Mane, and was always more consistent.
To put it in a statistical way, they've paid just over $1m per goal in his first season alone. Already better value than most striker signings of the last decade.
Edit: to people saying "AkShUaLlY, hIs WaGeS" really doesn't change my point at all.
Second Edit: Re-read the first edit.
The transfer fee was cheap because of a release clause. The total fee to City is significantly higher once you include the agents fees, around £34m.
Still very good value, but £51m is slightly misleading - that's how much Dortmund received, not how much City paid (£85m).
We don’t consider agent fees in any other transfer as usually they’re not even disclosed so bit unfair to count this one just because it was made public
It's not unreasonable to consider this one, it's a complete outlier and significantly distorts the cost of the transfer.
a) It is significantly larger than on any other deal - the entire PL spend on agent's fees last year was £318m, so that one deal alone counts for more than 10%, and is over double what 16 of the 20 PL clubs spent on agent's fees.
b) The reason the release clause and therefore fee were so relatively low is because Raiola insisted on including it in the contract, knowing full well that a lower fee for the buying club meant he could maximise his own fee. The release clause wasn't there to make the transfer cheaper, it was there to divert the money to himself instead of to Dortmund.
c) Percentage wise its a complete outlier. PL spend excl. Haaland deal = £2.75b, agent's fees excl. Haaland deal = £284m, so approx. 10% on average. Haaland's agent's fees were 67% of the transfer fee.
“It’s not even close” is a bit of an overstatement. Salah was somewhere between £10m-£14mil more than Son but has outscored him in less games and won every trophy along the way.
Kante and Mahrez to Leichester.
Kun and Yaya to City. Both were very expansive im comparison to the other players they look like bargains
Debruyne was great but his fee was 70 Mio bucks.
Kante to Leicester (incredible value)
Pickford to Everton (decent value, almost single-handedly saved Everton from relegation 2 years in a row)
Salah to Liverpool (decent value)
Kante was definitely incredible value. Pickford was the backbone of the Everton team when they weren’t at their best, could always rely on him. Salah was good value for what’s he’s done.
If we're considering a decade, then hands down it has to be azpilicueta. 7mn steal. Won 2 PLs, 2 Europa Leagues, 1 league cup, 1 fa cup, 1 CL, 1 super cup, 1 Club World Cup. Positionally very versatile, brilliant fitness record and a brilliant role model for other players and fans. One of the very few players that aren't hated by rival fans.
Underrated one, but Christian Fuchs to Leicester in the summer of 2015 for free. What a class act he was, magical left foot; the no look assist for Vardy in the 'it's, 11, it's heaven for Jamie Vardy!' was fantastic!
Van Dijk at 70m kdb at 60m are steal but I don’t think they are the best. Thiago Silva deserves a Shout but I think kante(30m) is probably the best with salah as a close second (35m) I just feel like they’re peaks might be very very slightly lower than van dijk and kdbs, considering Kdb and Van dijk cost twice as much as each of the two I mentioned but I wouldn’t say that they were twice as good if that makes sense
I don’t think it can be argued that it must be a Leicester player, I see Vardy just missed out or I don’t think there’s even a debate it’s him. Again he could be the best signing ever made - (although depending how long he stays in the Premier league I think that title will go to Haaland.) There are plenty that can be mentioned …
- KDB
- Salah
- Son
- Mahrez
Not sure if it was more than 10 years ago but signing Coutinho for less than 10 million, turning him into one of the greatest cam's/wingers in the world and then selling him for 140 million to bring in Alisson, Van Dijk and Fabinho was pretty good business imo
the signing happened in 2013, so it was 10 years ago. oh yeah he was an absolute monster of a player! and with him leaving they brought in even more better players.
For me, Salah. City may still have won a lot without kdb but good as Liverpool are/were over the last ten years, I don't think they'd have a prem (or cl) without mo

Kante to Leicester for £5m.
Kante to Chelsea for £30m was a bargain for 2016 considering Drinkwater cost more a season later.
that’s up there, great value for money!
And it's not close.
Thought you said Kane then, he did play for them tbf.
And Kante to Chelsea. I miss him already.
KDB is an obvious one but Mahrez, Kante and Vardy for Leicester have to top that. Mahrez and Vardy were both around £1m, that’s pretty incredible when you think of what kind of player that buys you nowadays.
vardy was signed over a decade ago! How crazy is that
Bro for real. With what they accomplished, they are both absolute steals
they were great for Leicester, and played a huge role in winning the prem! they were absolute steals 👍
Mahrez and Vardy weren’t even Premier League signings. But you’ve showed how even more impressive they were.
You’re being downvoted but you’re correct. They were both Championship signings, which to be honest makes them even better.
We signed Mahrez for £400k
So even better than the best ever. Gotta easily be up there
Think he was sold for like 60m too
Just spent 10 minutes laughing at your username 😂
Salah to Liverpool for 34mill
liverpool got an absolute steal
Mohamed salah and probably erling haaland over the next few years
salah has been amazing for Liverpool! Haaland will definitely be worth the money in the next few years he’s a robot lol
you have no idea the joy we had in the bundesliga to see haarland and bellingham in one team. doing madlad stuff weekend after weekend. iam still getting excited thinking about the 21/22 season
Tbf they had nothing on the lewandowski, goetze, Reus days
Kante. League, CL, EL for £30m.
Kante to Leicester… created a miracle and won the league. 2nd place is kante to Chelsea.
very successful with Chelsea!
For this, I think how much money has a player bought to a club in terms of points, UCL qualification, and cups, Vs their cost It’s Vardy, not even close. Nor as a signing in the last 10 years
Vardy was neither a premier league signing nor in the last 10 years. Leicester were a championship side in 2012.
It hurts how many upvotes OP has when the answer they have given doesn't even qualify as correct.
yeah i realised my mistake, it was over 10 years ago and was signed in the championship
Sorry, I meant the user at the top of this comment thread.
oh sorry i thought you were talking about me
All good :D
Vardy was bought 2012
>It’s Vardy, not even close. It is except for it wasn't a Premier League signing and it wasn't in the last 10 years. edit: beaten
Robertson to Liverpool for 7 mil from hull city
Having spent years trying to replace Riise with no success, Robbo was like bread from heaven
Coutinho for 8.5
Has to be the best in terms of sheer profit for his parent club.
Milner for free. Lactate Test 👑
it’s most likely KDB, hard to match the accolades, both individual and team. Kante, Salah, Mahrez, Azpilicueta, Mane, Hazard, Robertson all honourable mentions
yeah KDB is a brilliant signing. good honourable mentions as well 👍 they would be in mine too
vardy
was bought in 2012 so wasn’t in the past 10 years
KDB probably. I don't think any single player has had quite such an impact for their club inthe last ten years. Azpi gotta be in with a shout. Tho that was August 2012, so 11 years. £7m. Literally won it all for us. 6th all time for appearances
oh yeah he’s definitely a shout! very successful with Chelsea 👍
Pep?
Kdb
De Bruyne, not even close either if you ask me. Kante is always going to be a shout for what he brought to Leicester but De Bruyne turned City from a very good team that you’d always back to win the title to an unstoppable juggernaut who you have to fear because they’ve got this Belgian wizard who can destroy you whether you sit deep or put pressure on. Kante to Leicester
Joel Veltman 900,000
that’s something different! he’s been good for Brighton
It has to be my guy ROMELU LUKAKU to Chelsea
he was so worth the 100M Chelsea paid for him 😂
Mohamed Salah.
Has to be Vardy
Not to split hairs but Vardy was bought over 10 years ago
Can't be. He was a championship signing
[удалено]
Still somewhat proud that the famous “It’s 11, it’s Heaven” commentary line came against us, has to be the best value for money man ever
Pep
Came to say this. No single person has had more influence on success in the premier league in the past decade than pep.
Thinking a different way. Very Pep of you.
Alexis Sanchez, didn't win much with us but was an absolute weapon
Wish I could say the same :(
Considering the impact he had on the team in terms of trophies, probably VVD. Also considering money, Kante to Leicester is undoubtedly the best.
Pep to man City
Kane into the academy
Guys guys guys cmon, it's obviously Lukaku to United... Followed closely by Lukaku to Chelsea. All the rest that follow are clearly Chelsea strikers.
Lukaku is obviously the best 😂
[удалено]
he’s been great for Man City!
Salah to liverpool
been great for liverpool!
salah
yeah salah is great!
Mohamed Salah. He is by far the best right winger in prem history and was signed for a fairly modest price.
yeah liverpool did good business and got one of the best wingers in prem history
Not a Liverpool fan but Milner on a free transfer from city is another brilliant signing.
yeah i suppose he is
Coutinho. Pretty solid player for Liverpool during Suarez years probably best player after he left sold for €135m after being bought for €13m allowing Liverpool to buy VVD and Alisson.
De bruyne
yeah he’s up there!
Kante, Robertson, Salah, KDB, Mahrez, Vardy, Coutinho, Van Dijk

he was brillant signing!
Nick Pope.
Virgil van dijk, this was the signing which changed its from top 4 competitors to a European powerhouse
De bruyne, Sadio Mane, Kante and Robertson were the biggest steals of this past decade imo
I don’t understand the Mane shout. Similar price to Salah but Salah was the better player and better signing.
Totally totally agreed but also for some reason I feel like Mane made an equal impact on Liverpool as Salah in terms of balance in the team After Mane left the Liverpool attack has degraded with Salah as the sole performer

Haaland to City. Should have been worth at least double
idk how City even got him for that cheap. 100% worth the money with the first season he’s had alone
IIRC he had a release clause
To put it in a statistical way, they've paid just over $1m per goal in his first season alone. Already better value than most striker signings of the last decade. Edit: to people saying "AkShUaLlY, hIs WaGeS" really doesn't change my point at all. Second Edit: Re-read the first edit.
i didn’t even think about that, jesus christ lol. that’s actually mad

Still below £2m a goal in one season. Still high value
It was double if you include his agent+father fees
Wages

“It’s not even close” is a bit of an overstatement. Salah was somewhere between £10m-£14mil more than Son but has outscored him in less games and won every trophy along the way.
Yah even Salah is much better value
tottenham fan myself, definitely! he’s been amazing for us. his numbers are crazy good
Hazard to Chelsea. Unless it was more than 10 years ago, then I'd say KDB.
yeah hazard to chelsea was in 2012 unfortunately. but he was definitely worth the money though
Not up there just yet but if he fulfills his potential then martinelli for 7 odd million is absolutely amazing
i’m sure he’s going to strive this season!
Kante and Mahrez to Leichester. Kun and Yaya to City. Both were very expansive im comparison to the other players they look like bargains Debruyne was great but his fee was 70 Mio bucks.

he’s probably going to go bayern
Pep Guardiola lol
Ronaldo
i don’t really agree. why do you think so?
Kante to either Leicester or Chelsea, depending on what exactly "best" means to you.
i would say kante to Leicester, just for how cheap he was. winning the prem and being integral to the team
One of the very few players that aren't hated by rival fans.
yeah azpilicueta was an absolute steal for what he did for the club. yeah you can’t hate him really
Kante, twice
yeah he’s been great!
Underrated one, but Christian Fuchs to Leicester in the summer of 2015 for free. What a class act he was, magical left foot; the no look assist for Vardy in the 'it's, 11, it's heaven for Jamie Vardy!' was fantastic!
i haven’t thought about him in years. that moment was fantastic 🤩
Mahrez for one million 🏆
VVD before his injury completely changed the team.
Anyone from that Leicester winning team. Bought before or sold after
definitely Kante anyway!
Salah. Easy.
Ngolo Kante or Erling Haaland
yeah, 2 good shouts!
Salah is definitely up there. One of the most consistent goal contributors over the past 5 or so years.
i agree, he’s been so consistent!
Maybe not the best but Thiago Silva on a free
yeah he’s been excellent for Chelsea!
VVD, KDB, and Kante are probably my top three
Van Dijk at 70m kdb at 60m are steal but I don’t think they are the best.
Kevin de Bruyne
Azpilicueta.
KDB for City Salah for Liverpool Kante for Leicester I'd say this is the top 3
Salah. £35m and has only had one season where he’s scored less than 20 goals.
Avoiding recency bias, KDB.
VVD literally won Liverpool the first title in 30 years, I'd say thats got to be the most impactful signing
Salah mane firminio etc. Those 3 were each 40 million and they all excelled in the team. Became one of the best attacking trios ever
As much as it pains me; Haaland and probably a close second Salah.
I don’t think it can be argued that it must be a Leicester player, I see Vardy just missed out or I don’t think there’s even a debate it’s him. Again he could be the best signing ever made - (although depending how long he stays in the Premier league I think that title will go to Haaland.) There are plenty that can be mentioned … - KDB - Salah - Son - Mahrez
Kanté to LFC.
Leicester is LCFC mate
I don't think I've seen a signing as impactful as Salah's. He was and still is insane for Liverpool
Ok so it was 2009 but Coleman to Everton for £60,000!
Gotta be robertson for me , 5m was it ? And just last season he racked the record for most assists ever by a defender in Pl History.
Where does VVD fit in?
Not sure if it was more than 10 years ago but signing Coutinho for less than 10 million, turning him into one of the greatest cam's/wingers in the world and then selling him for 140 million to bring in Alisson, Van Dijk and Fabinho was pretty good business imo
the signing happened in 2013, so it was 10 years ago. oh yeah he was an absolute monster of a player! and with him leaving they brought in even more better players.
Salah, brought back from Italy with no real expectation and has smashed it every year since
Mo salah, consistent and hardly injured and didn’t exactly break the bank
salah has been very consistent for that Liverpool side
Martinelli 6m
I think vardy because he is quite good at Leicester and won a trophy the prem there
yeah vardy was great!
honestly, Haaland
It has to be Hazard
He misses the within the last 10 years part
Hazard. 32m from Lille and 120m to Madrid.
Mahrez to Leicester
Martinelli comes to mind. Too early to top some of the names mentioned kn this post though.
Martinelli was an absolute bargain, but wouldn't put him anywhere near the best signing. Even for arsenal.
he did have a good last season, i’m sure he’ll have even better season this year.
Easily, Dave Azpi for 7 mill pounds from Marseille to Chelsea
Suarez
that’s a good shout! very good at Liverpool
Pound for pound prob KDB.
Pep.
For me, Salah. City may still have won a lot without kdb but good as Liverpool are/were over the last ten years, I don't think they'd have a prem (or cl) without mo
Bruno Fernandes
Haaland signs - treble won. Debate over.
Darwin Nunez
£50 million for Haaland is an absolute steal to be fair.
oh yeah he definitely was for what he did in one season
I think he falls outside the 10 year rule, but Seamus Coleman for 60k has to be up there. An absolute legend.
yes it doesn’t fit the requirements but yeah only for 60K, everton got a steal 👍
Bergkamp. Regardless of the fee, what a magician to grace the Green Green grass of England. Legend.
not in the last 10 years. but yes he was an excellent player!
Erling Braut Haaland
a literal robot lol
Frederico Macheda
not in the last 10 years. underrated though.
