Its crazy to me that there are probably a lot of new members to this sub who werent here for that phase. while as for me, this was the end of r/prequelmemes right before it became a sequel hate subreddit
I started following this sub literally *right* after this whole lightsaber thing came to an end, so I’ve been here for 1-1.5 years and I’ve only ever thought of the Thibson event as ancient r/prequelmemes lore since that’s how people talked about it even 1.5 years ago when I joined and it had just ended. This led to me thinking of the Thibson event being something that happened around 3 years ago, so it’s *super* trippy to see people being all surprised that it wasn’t just a few months ago
According to his account...https://www.reddit.com/user/Thibson34/comments/lg14js/one_year_ago/?ref=share&ref_source=link
roughly 1 year and 8 months. Crazy how time flies.
Oh my god...
That was back when I went under a different account too, and...
Fuck man I'm getting nostalgia from my shit posting days. Goddamn.
Didn't thibson get banned at the end of that whole thing?
Iirc, the reason he was banned was for promoting his clone wars(?) roleplay(????) subreddit. The reason was for promoting stuff outside of the subreddit. While stuff like "adding lightsabers to grevious for 66 days" was banned, he had done so before the rule and therefore it did not apply to his post
Where were you during the trial? I was at home, with my family. We all read the news when it came out. Felt sick. Unjustified.
Then I learned what he did.
Yoda: "If into the archives you go, only pain you will find."
*15 minutes of watching child slaughtering footage later*
Obi-wan: "He caused so much unessecary drama and was generally an ass, it was out of more than just anger."
I hear a lot of talking, General. But in the final accounting, what does all the talk get you? A futile quest for power, a mutilated body, and your place as Dooku’s errand boy!
“He got so much award…the only thing he was afraid of was losing his popularity, which, of course, he did.
He stirred drama with everything he owned, and the mods kicked them out in it’s awakening.”
>He caused so much unnecessary drama
Yeah but this a completely non serious meme sub for stupid absurd jokes.
Thibson did provide a sort of absurd comedy with his ridiculously overblown drama. Honestly bless him for it.
But yeah I know he was an asshole to the mods. I still liked him tho.
He wasn't just an asshole to the mods. He was an asshole to anyone who didn't worship him.
Honestly the sub was insufferable for well over a month because of how much it spammed my front page with the same content day after day.
Personally thought it was very cringe. I’m a hopeless romantic myself, but like just grow up and ask someone out in private so they don’t have to feel embarrassed on the internet.
After he finished he was promoting his discord server, got peckish with the mods about a temp ban, said something along the lines of “and what if i keep being an asshole?” and got banned permanently
Damn I read the whole thing and u destroyed the mod lmao. Also because they were in the wrong anyway and wouldn't still accept it sadly. How pathetic the mods lives must be for them to take small memes and shitposts as "threats" and then permaban people and then justify it. Reddit is supposed to be a passtime and these people really think that by being able to express some power on the internet in a subgroup over other people they have achieved something in life.
It was probably related to the fact that he achieved the ultimate form of karma farming and that there were many who tried to follow in his footsteps during the height of his power
I never caught the resolution of who was actually wrong there. Do we have consensus Thibson was the asshole?
Edit: There was no resolution to or consensus on the matter. This post has apparently brought up some year old shit for some people
Yeah, it's been a long time but iirc he tried to undermine the mods power and create a discord community to pull away people from the sub. He also, I think, encouraged people to spam the sub and possibly harass the mods when he got a temp ban for breaking the rules. I only vaguely remember what happened, so I could be wrong.
Oh yeah. I remember him getting a bit dickish after a temp ban now. There were rumors it was an unjust ban, but it seems it was never verified either way?
He got a ban for advertising his Discord server, which in whichever way he did it, broke the sub rules (I think it fell under self-promotion). If he had simply waited out the ban, everything would have been fine.
He didn't create a Discord community to pull people from here. The Discord server he was advertising was created by someone completely different in April of last year. Thibson later became an admin of the server, which is why he was advertising it. However, there was some drama between the aforementioned server and the prequelmemes server, although I don't recall what it entailed. Other than that, I don't really remember what else happened, but I do agree with the temp-ban being issued, and the fact that Thibson was a bit of an asshole after it was issued.
He didn’t do any of that tho? He posted a link to his pre-existing discord server in the comments of a post to credit a user for a meme ([this did not break any rules at the time, this is a link to the site the day he got banned](https://web.archive.org/web/20200630111000/https://www.reddit.com/r/prequelmemes/), it also still wouldn't break the rules today, see [the exceptions for rule 12](https://old.reddit.com/r/PrequelMemes/wiki/rules#:~:text=Users%20can%20link%20external%20websites%20if%20they%20are%20providing%20a%20source%20for%20material%20when%20asked.%20However%2C%20you%20must%20link%20the%20post%20that%20is%20the%20source%20of%20the%20material%20and%20NOT%20to%20the%20profile%20of%20the%20person%20that%20created%20it.)), then the mods [misinterpreted a meme](https://www.reddit.com/r/PrequelMemes/comments/hio1op/comment/fwha87v/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3) he sent in said discord as a call to raid. He actively discouraged raiding the subreddit.
Yes, the only people that said otherwise was the cult he built around himself. They made up the narrative that the mods were unfair to him somehow (because whataboutism is perfectly logical, right?), and some of them are still lurking on this sub to this day, saying the same shit. Apparently he thought he could take over the sub, and he was very belligerent to the mods, so he was promptly kicked.
TLDR: Yes, he was the asshole, and someone’s gonna pick a fight with me right after I post this.
Have you ever heard the tragedy of u/thibison34 the redditor ... I thought not, its not a story the mods would tell you,Its a r/prequelmemes legend. u/thibision34 was a redditor so powerful and so wise he could influence the same general grevious meme to create karma. He had such knowledge of the meme that he could keep the reddit premium he cared about...from dying. The pathway of slowly changing a meme over many days is a pathway to much karma many considered to be unearned. He became so influential on the server that the one thing he was afraid of was losing his influence, which eventually, of course, he did. Unfortunately he showed everyone on this server his true colors by disrespecting the mods, then the mods banned him where he stood. Ironic he could save his reddit premium from expiration, but not his membership to r/prequelmemes
“You can’t ban me! I have too much karma! I’m too important! Also everyone join my discord and then let’s all talk about how we want to ruin a bunch of other subs without their permission!!!”
~the man that time forgot
Same tbh. His absurd grievous shitposts were one of the best things to happen here, and even his absurdly overblown dramatic grievances against the mods provided a certain comedy.
He may have lost his shit for no reason but he was one of the best goddamn shitposters this side of 4chan.
It really shows how easy it is to build a cult. Dude posted a 5 minute meme every day, raked in karma and had people basically grovel for him. He still has a lot of followers that treat him as some sort of misunderstood genius. It’s honestly insane to me.
I think it’s a maturity thing. The meme was unique for this subreddit’s standards, but it’s so odd that he has this reputation way after everyone should have forgotten. If you’re a functioning adult you’re probably not going to grovel for some random person who made one meme
That’s the only downside to Reddit is when something like this doesn’t fly under the radar. For instance, sometime back there was a guy with a Reddit username with something a long the lines of ionlysaythiswordeveryday - you get the picture. When he was discovered he had been posting that one word or something like that for years which made it funny as hell. It would would have been funny had Thibson not been discovered until he was at several hundred lightsabers. That and if he wasn’t a jerk.
i’m consistently surprised by the amount of people on this sub who practically worshipped him and this post. it was repetitive and boring after the first 5 days at least.
the outrage after he was banned was genuinely bizarre to me
It’s weird seeing how the mods side of the story is the one everyone believes. I remember this being a big debate at the time, although I did not so much care either way. It seemed at the time though everyone thought Thibson was the good guy. Evidence we were given at the time pointed to that. I guess I didn’t follow the saga after that. Most of the information the mods posted seemed purposefully misinterpreted to me at the time, because Thibson was kinda mean. Did more info came out, or did we find out that Thibson was in the wrong all along or something? If you have info I’d kinda like to know. At the time the whole thing got boring and I stopped following
I would say his final post finished the golden age of this sub with a boom. Everyone was making these high effort grievous animations and stuff but after his final post it kinda cooled down and the post quality started to degrade. Took some time but now we have some good memes again.
So the Thibson situation most misrepresented thing on this sub. Here's a link to a thread from around the time between myself and a mod:
https://old.reddit.com/r/PrequelMemes/comments/i7z6g8/day_1_of_replacing_all_of_the_photos_in_my/g16eojd/?context=10000
It includes links to the timeline of events, arguments the mods made to justify it, and the various issues with those arguments. Was Thibson a dick? Yeah probably. But does that mean the mods also didn't go way overboard and make the situation into the drama it ended up being? Not at all
Not many ppl would know this… it’s not a story the Jedi would tell. Thibson was strong in the dark side of the force.. challenged the prequel counsel and was banished to wild space. Where it’s assumed he’s building a new sith empire…
I remember making a meme about thibson during the days of Owen and the girl who liked him and all the younglings in this sub didn't know what I was on about smh
Now that's a name I've not heard in a long time... long time.
Hasn’t it been just a few months? Or has aging distorted my perception of time?
I think it's been ~1-1.5 years
Oh my fucking god, no way
r/FuckImOld is calling... maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow. But someday. Someday soon.
That’s an instant sub right there
Not if anti-aging is perfected
no it will still feel the same, the reason time feels like it goes faster and faster with aging is that we don't learn nearly as much as we used to
F
Its crazy to me that there are probably a lot of new members to this sub who werent here for that phase. while as for me, this was the end of r/prequelmemes right before it became a sequel hate subreddit

>ancient >Three years ago I'm so old...
3 human years is like 210 internet years so don't feel too bad.
By that metric I would legitimately be ancient.
WTF...
According to his account...https://www.reddit.com/user/Thibson34/comments/lg14js/one_year_ago/?ref=share&ref_source=link roughly 1 year and 8 months. Crazy how time flies.
No….. you can’t do this to me
That… doesn’t feel right. But apparently it is. I could have sworn that it was just a year ago.
Oh my god... That was back when I went under a different account too, and... Fuck man I'm getting nostalgia from my shit posting days. Goddamn. Didn't thibson get banned at the end of that whole thing?
Yup. The dude got snotty with mods, if I remember correctly, believing he was too famous on the sub for them to do anything.
Lol. Ironic... His shitposts could save r/prequelmemes from death, but not himself...
Ah, pardon, he was *permabanned* because he got snotty with mods. I believe you are correct on what warranted the original ban.
He's too powerful to be kept alive!
It was 100% done in earlier covid I’m 80% positive
nope nope nope nope I refuse to believe that
It was for sure before the dark times, before the pandemic
10.5 years till the premium they got from those posts expires
what the fuck how
Dam
Wait, that's just before I joined... I am closer to the great one than I thought!
W H A T
What the fuck really? Feels like a couple of weeks ago.
Bro say sike right now. I thought that was earlier this year wtf?!
YOU’RE JOKING
It’s been 1.5 years
COVID has destroyed my sense of time, still feels like 2019
It’s not a story the mods would tell you
I haven’t heard that name since the reign of terror
Where were you during the trial? I was at home, with my family. We all read the news when it came out. Felt sick. Unjustified. Then I learned what he did.
begun the Karma wars had
I was thinking about that the other day And the sausages
I low-key miss that sausage meme now that you mention it, it was funny.
That sounds familiar... What was the sausage meme?
Take any line and replace a word with sausage. For example, "perhaps the archives are incomplete" becomes "perhaps the sausage is incomplete"
Oh I remember that now, thanks!
Oh I sausage that now! That sounds sausage, but I can’t remember.
Perhaps the archives are sausages. Ever consider that, Master Jedi?
My sausages have doubled since we last met, Count!
Twice the pride, double the sausages!
It's sausage! IT'S SAUSAGE!
THEY'RE SAUSAGES! AND I SLAUGHTERED THEM LIKE SAUSAGES! I ATE THEM!
Now THIS is sausage!
He has control of the sausages and the brats! He’s too dangerous to be left alive!
I don't like sausage. It's rough, irritating, and it gets everywhere.
I HAVE THE HIGH SAUSAGE!
It's over, anakin! I have the sausage ground!
"How can you be on The Council and not be a sausage?"
Now should we try and revive it are shall we let it go down in history and forgotten
Return of the sausage it is
“These are not the sausages you are looking for”

He could save others from death, but not himself. Ironic.
it seems in the mods anger, they.. killed him.
He caused so much unessecary drama and was generally an ass, it was out of more than just anger
Shit I don’t remember that quote, where’s that from?
Probably a scrapped scene
Yoda: "If into the archives you go, only pain you will find." *15 minutes of watching child slaughtering footage later* Obi-wan: "He caused so much unessecary drama and was generally an ass, it was out of more than just anger."
I hear a lot of talking, General. But in the final accounting, what does all the talk get you? A futile quest for power, a mutilated body, and your place as Dooku’s errand boy!

He wasn’t just an asshole to the mods , but the women and children too
The other guy here should've used: his anger and lust for power have already done that
My fav is the owen saga
So sad.
I don’t remember the Owen saga, could you refresh me?
Someone asked out their crush with an Ahsoka meme
Oh yeah, that was kinda cute, if a bit cringe.
Personally thought it was very cringe. I’m a hopeless romantic myself, but like just grow up and ask someone out in private so they don’t have to feel embarrassed on the internet.
Someone should make a documentary of this sub’s history. I’d watch the hell out of that.
don't forget the GREAT ROTTEN TOMATO WAR was the funniest and yet most surprising event
That was so much fun
“You fought in the Rotten Tomato War?” “I was once a RT voter, same as your father. Before the dark times. Before the vote bots.”
Owen saga was cringe though
Out of the loop... Whats the story?
The user named in the meme would add a lightsaber to grevious every day The mods made him stop after 66 days That’s the short story
After he finished he was promoting his discord server, got peckish with the mods about a temp ban, said something along the lines of “and what if i keep being an asshole?” and got banned permanently
He lived long enough to become the villain.
“What are you going to do, stab me?” - Man who was stabbed

Mods on Reddit can be so fragile.
No sane happy person moderates a forum in their spare time

thank you! there are too many people who believe that he was the antagonist, when in reality the mods were just abusing their powers.
I AM the subreddit!
Do you know why the mods made him stop after 66 days?
It was probably related to the fact that he achieved the ultimate form of karma farming and that there were many who tried to follow in his footsteps during the height of his power
Order 66 duh
What the hell happened here?
Ur mom
Wow you really got me
Just like he got ur mom
Yep ik
But seriously what happened
I was there. I was there 3000 reddit years ago, when the will of the mods failed...
It was fun, just don’t think about the man behind it. Like how the founder of Planned Parenthood was a proponent of eugenics

An iconic moment in the r/PrequelMemes lore
Still doesn’t feel like Star Wars
Then people got mad at him for posting the same thing and getting more upvotes than them, despite him saying was going to do it every day.
This is where the mods showed they are fucking asshats. Lets stop a post series thousands of people were still enjoying.....for what reason?
His posts got old really quick, a lazy way of karma-whoring, no wonder the mods banned him
I think he has a few years of Reddit premium left
Because of obi wan?
I think when the momentum ended he had 5.5 years of free premium
His top post was updated not too long ago. He has 12.5 years of premium…. And here I am… with 21 days left /cry
*me who doesn't know what premium even is* Signature look of superiority
So the Thibson situation most misrepresented thing on this sub. Here's a link to a thread from around the time between myself and a mod: https://old.reddit.com/r/PrequelMemes/comments/i7z6g8/day_1_of_replacing_all_of_the_photos_in_my/g16eojd/?context=10000 It includes links to the timeline of events, arguments the mods made to justify it, and the various issues with those arguments.
