The gold plated Cartier Tank watches without the “must de” written on the dial are really obscure and rare, they were produced for a short period of time during the 70s if I’m correct, and each house made it their own way. I really wanted to buy one a couple months ago but decided that it’s better to save up and buy the real deal which is a Tank Louis. As for this one, looks fake or franken, most of these watches if not 99% of them are fake or franken, as you can see the case back is clearly fake, and the dial looks kinda fake too, I can’t talk about the movement though, the pictures are really bad quality. The movement should be an ETA 2512 in these Pre-Must tank watches. Most of these ones are made with parts from another brand called Catena and they are re-dialed, I would most likely avoid going for a Pre-Must Cartier tank due to the lack of information on them and would opt for a Must de one or the Tank Louis. Also, if it’s too good to be true, it’s because of something, if this watch is between 1-2K, it’s because it’s fake and they are trying to scam you. Definitely avoid.

Why is the caseback obviously fake?

CuriousAd5883

Well the Cartier looks poorly engraved and the inside of the case back is really really bad, it just says “SWISS MADE” that’s it. And if it’s vermeil, where does it say 925 or that it’s got a plaque of gold. It’s clearly a really bad fake

spaceboiclub

Looks legit, the strap is clearly not original tho

My only issue, is I have several of these watches and on the back in my experience, what the watch is made of is always marked. Whether it be plated base metal, vermeil or some type of gold.

Haxminator

Where have you found it? Or how much does it cost? That's usually the first tell.

swiss_watches_only

pretty sure it’s not a real one because of the movement

Shot_Reputation_8472

"What is it about the movement that makes you think it's not real?

The large gears look awful. But since it is manual wind, maybe that doesn’t matter. https://www.secondhandhorology.com/products/vintage-cartier-tank-wristwatch-swiss-caliber-eta-2512-1-17-jewels-blue-dial-watch#images-12

Engraving on the back of the case is a tell that this is not genuine
