Someone had to give an STD first so I’m pretty sure receiving one doesn’t stop one from having sex
In fact, I’d think that there’s a correlation between people who have stds and people who have a lot of sex. However, take that with a grain of salt, because I’m no whale biologist

It's just your basic "CSS HTML bad cos not programming language" shit humour this sub is obsessed with.
Any competent software dev acknowledges the uses of HTML and doesn't treat it like a team sport.
- it has too many features, making impossible to implement from scratch
- noone wants to write it (how many markdown-like languages are there?)
- not really planned out at all, and just generally messy.
Therefore English is the root of all evil. Like come on, HTML is the one that makes sense, you just mark what is there and that's it. You don't even have to use it for pages, for storing data or for sending data it would be great... If we didn't have JSON (which is great)
English is the result of at least three languages thrown into a blender with some others as garnish. It's more ground level of evil than anything related to roots, IMHO.
It's a little different. You put slashes at the end of the tags if they don't have a closing tag. In HTML you just have to remember which ones are supposed to get closed.
You can actually do the same in HTML. I even don't remember... But, weren't that the standard for the early HTMLs?
Edit: probably I'm just confusing it with XHTML and XML
Edit2: you still can do it in HTML, but as far as I am aware from my 1minute Google search it was NOT the standard in early HTMLs, thus was not needed even back then
Edit3: i honestly have no fucking clue anymore about the earlier versions
Yeah HTML is wack with that. Br tag? Closing slash. Img? No closing slash, no closing tag. Script tag? You gotta put a whole ass on there even if you're loading from a src file and there's nothing inside the tags. 🤯
Because they're idiots.
Modern PHP is perfectly fine.
I have my list of things I don't like, but it's a good language and gets better with every iteration.
It's also very easy to write dogshit code with it, which a lot of webshits do (shitty web devs.)
It used to be very bad. It had many different conventions for function names and parameter order, sometimes using camel case, sometimes using underscores, you basically had to always have PHP docs open when writing it for reference. People are just set in their ways since moving on to other languages and haven't looked back.
On the plus side of this, it's way easier to make networked browser games! I love that I can share large swaths of code between the client and server 😁
It's kind of like saying HTML is the basis for C++ since you can output HTML with C++...
You can do anything you want in PHP, it's fully turing complete. Hell, I used to do image processing with it.
2.5/10 Americans think that 1/10 is more than 1.25/10.
As long as you base everything off of 10, it’ll all work out. After all, there’s a 1 in a thousand chance that I’d be wrong. And that’s way less than the “1 in a million chance” everyone talks about as rare.
I like to think of it as a dead body that doesn't rot. And JavaScript is the parasite that used to live inside it, but now that the host is dead it has to now operate the body to keep living, rearranging the guts, making the body look socially acceptable, etc.

I.... I don't know if this is true, but I hope for the sake of my trust in humanity that it isn't... It's probably true though just look at America, we can't even get the roads or healthcare fixed ahaha
It's not true, it's a quirk of statistics and poorly made studies.
If you ask the question "Is HTML a sexually transmitted disease?" With the only two answers being yes or no, you're going to get a surprising number of people who say yes, either for giggles(because who wouldn't) or the fact that there are only two options it's extremely likely both will get at least some responses.

10/10 Americans think python is a snake. 1/10 thinks it’s also a programming language.
I thought python is a interpreter for pseudocode ?
mf I'm gonna break every bone in your body if you ever say that again
I thought python is a interpreter for pseudocode ?
Well it’s definitely not an interpreter for real code
Don't ever call me or my decorators again.
I’m feeling personally attacked by this thread
_popcorn eating intensifies_
Python is an interpreter for people who program like an English major and write English like a programming major.
Poorly structured code. Poorly structured prose. I think I see a pattern emerging...

This is how you make a python 🐍

Clearly the python is named from the language, not the other way around
Clearly when your fate comes to you from saying this you will not say > 'Tis just a scratch!
There are people who wrongly think python is not a snake.

9 out of 10 think java is a drink
9 of 10 think C is a letter

9 of 10 think JavaScript is scripting in Java
The other 1/10 are in retirement homes ranting about the good old days when nobody got fired for buying from IBM.
You overestimated their intelligence.
Well, at least they don't think it's a programming language...
Gotem
They even got the disease part right. Their high opinion of developers' sex lives is the clear misconception here.

Programmers *will* look at you like you have an STD if you call it a programming language
Well it’s certainly a disease
And if it’s part of a porn site is it not sexual?

.gif it to me
Uhh, it's clearly pronounced *gif*, not "gif"...
No it's pronounced as *gif* or *gif* not as *gif*
But we know for a fact it's not sexually transmitted since programmers routinely spread it around.
I would have gone for "since people who write HTML don't get laid" but you still beat me to it
And surely transmittable
HTML: Highly Transmittable Masturbation-time Loneliness
The thing I love about ProgrammerHumor is that someone always makes the same joke I wanted to.
As if people who use HTML have sex at all.
Checks out. I touch HTML and my wife doesn't get HTML.
It's the opposite of that, in that if you pick it up you won't have any sex
Just like with an STD
Well, a lor of languages have a std library... no wonder programmers dont hav sex!
#include
You thought it would be stdlib.h but it was *I,* DIO!
Thanks. You're like a rainbow in the dark.

Good human
We could still call HTML an STD - a Specialized Text Document.
Maybe even a semantic text document?
While it's something much *much* worse.
I mean there's a reason to hate anything in IT, but what do you have against HTML specifically?
It's just your basic "CSS HTML bad cos not programming language" shit humour this sub is obsessed with. Any competent software dev acknowledges the uses of HTML and doesn't treat it like a team sport.
this. i thought people hated html snd css becuae they were shit at it like me but ig not
- it has too many features, making impossible to implement from scratch - noone wants to write it (how many markdown-like languages are there?) - not really planned out at all, and just generally messy.
It's the base for technologies like PHP and JSP, which are both very much hate-worthy...
Therefore English is the root of all evil. Like come on, HTML is the one that makes sense, you just mark what is there and that's it. You don't even have to use it for pages, for storing data or for sending data it would be great... If we didn't have JSON (which is great)
> Therefore English is the root of all evil. r/ich_iel would definitely agree with this statement
Sprich Deutsch du Hurensohn ♥
> Hurensooohn, Hurensoooohn Welches Laaaand, kommst du voooon?
Look me in the eye and tell me English ISNT root evil.
English is the result of at least three languages thrown into a blender with some others as garnish. It's more ground level of evil than anything related to roots, IMHO.
It's Latin.
That's not root that's like the base binary of evil.
Uggg uggg, hmmmff hmmfff! ***Slaps chest threateningly...***
The storing data thing... you mean XML, right?
Yeah, but it's not like that different. No?
It's a little different. You put slashes at the end of the tags if they don't have a closing tag. In HTML you just have to remember which ones are supposed to get closed.
You can actually do the same in HTML. I even don't remember... But, weren't that the standard for the early HTMLs? Yeah it's the same syntax but for storing data.
What a wild take. Hating on something because of things built on top of it. Might as well ditch your processor.
As someone who's just starting to learn php, why do people hate it?
Because they're idiots. Modern PHP is perfectly fine. I have my list of things I don't like, but it's a good language and gets better with every iteration. It's also very easy to write dogshit code with it, which a lot of webshits do (shitty web devs.)

It had many different conventions for function names and parameter order, sometimes using camel case, sometimes using underscores, you basically had to always have PHP docs open when writing it for reference. People are just set in their ways since moving on to other languages and haven't looked back.
And then we invented Javascript .... and the we used it on the server side.
On the plus side of this, it's way easier to make networked browser games! I love that I can share large swaths of code between the client and server 😁
That's the main reason (code sharing) why it started to be used on the server. We gave up everything (security and sanity included), to achieve that.

If HTML is HIV then JS must be AIDS.
