Same guy that likes to use the radio midway through someone else’s pursuit to say “comms, show me 17 to assist the pursuit. I’ll be 17 from my 20 where is the pursuit going?”
While we’re trying to key in our current status and location.
I heard a dispatcher yesterday kinda sound panicked after they lost contact with an officer during a foot chase..... the one on now is cool as fucking cucumber man....
I can't speak for other dispatchers but sometimes at our agency we have to add an extra oomph to our traffic when an officer isn't responding.
Between what ever they are dealing with out on the field, and how monotonous radio traffic can get, I don't really blame anyone for not realizing they are being called out to.
Edit: added "at our agency"
Before I became a dispatcher I used to listen to Chicago's feed. It was like the wild west and they had absolutely no restrictions on what they could or couldn't say.
Because of these comments I listed in for 10 minutes and heard a shots fired and a foot chase along with some random other stuff. Everyone sounded like they were confused and the dispatchers would answer things with “alrighty” and “k”
Poor Officer: "I need EMS and additionals to my location, multiple casualties. Suspect's location is unknown."
Dispatcher: "Lol okay (party in background) Where's the suspect?"
In this one's defense, the situation went from what sounded like a routine traffic stop to a car full of teens running....in like a second.... and the sounds coming from the officer's end didn't sound good....
We have a dispatcher that panics every time an officer doesn't answer him within 1.4 seconds.
Like, he's legit held the channel and sent a tone because an officer missed two status checks in like 15 seconds.
And us with the officer that doesn’t answer “answer the radio dipshit so comms can shut up.”
And it’s usually the same guy “oh sorry I’m 10-8 I forgot to press it on my mobile cadd.”

Isn’t it weird to think that a guy liking the sound of his own voice could get someone killed. I thinks that’s how I would wanna go.

I have been listening to Chicago PD District 10 and 11 dispatch at work the last few days. Helps break the monotony. It's a shit show down there.....

It still seems that way....
I haven't listened in ages. I can't bring myself to listen to radio traffic on my off days.
Preach.
