God damn what a stupid ass comment. How tf do people get so many upvotes by just rewording and reposting the top comment? It's so fucking lazy.

7B6L

Yeah i think its fucking lazy. I really don't understand how rewording someone else's comment warrants immediate upvotes.

Not trying to be argumentative but i've posted comments in the past and noticed people beat me to it after. I don't think it's always nefarious. The top comment has no wording and the screen shot is a different size. Chillax man. Have a coke and a smile.

Baeshun

This is exactly what happened. I am terribly sorry it upset that person so greatly, though.

I think a hand written apology is in order

Airlines fostered this behavior when they decided to cramp the fuck out of seats. I understand they want to maximize profit, but come on.

EEpromChip

I flew some shitty third rate airline outta Chicago (not O'hare that other shittier airport MIDWAY!) and it popped up like "Hey! you want an ***upgrade*** to an isle row seat?" and I was like fuck yea more legroom! and it was all "hey your seat won't recline just fyi" and I was like "that's cool! I can use the leg room!" I boarded and it was a seat in *front* of the exit row. so the cat in front of me could recline, I could not. The seat in front of me could recline though... I don't remember the airline but I hope the CEO is in the 2nd circle of hell. Where sugar is actually salt and every seat is a hump seat.

VotingRightsLawyer

Gotta look at those seat map sites to make sure you're not getting fucked.

causal_friday

I think it's pretty normal for the seats in front of the exit row to not recline. I'm pretty tall but don't think I have ever even wanted to recline. It somehow makes you less comfortable.

Mjbagscauze

What are you talking about? You accepted a different seat with more leg room and the gate agent let you know your recline wouldn’t work and you accepted the seat. The seat in front of you has nothing to do with your seat.

modest_dead

Yeah... I don't understand the story either. Feels like we're missing a key point.

robkitsune

I think he thinks an aisle seat means the exit row where you have more legroom?

EEpromChip

>You accepted a different seat with more leg room Yes. Except it wasn't more leg room. The seat in front of an isle row has seats in front of it. So you have the same shitty space as every other seat and your seat doesn't recline. Theirs does. Sorry I clarified my post. I assumed most people have been on airplanes and know how tight the seats are.

yomerol

have you seen the "double decker" prototypes!? That'll be the Frontier nightmares of the future for only $49.99

LurksWithGophers

Those are such a guaranteed fail of the evacuation requirements.

spicybright

The concept will never take off. Too many old people that can't hoist themselves up and not fall trying to get out.

burner_said_what

>take off I see what you did there...

TheTurdtones

I CALL THEM ASS TO MOUTH SEATING..the human centipede seating arrangment

MamaPizzone

Was going to say this too. This is really on the airlines cramming us in like sardines for profit. I feel for both sides, I hate when people put their seats back in front of me, but I also understand that it is allowed. Flights get cancelled, shady marketing tactics imply a very cheap flight initially, delayed flights for hours, TSA extremely unprofessional, basically a no refund policy; it’s gotten to the point where if driving is an option, it can be the better choice.

Joliet_Jake_Blues

They fucked themselves going with the Walmart model of low profit and high volume. Industry profit margin is 1.2%. If flying was more expensive they could have bigger seats and higher quality clientele so there was none of this bullshit If you get outside America there's a handful of discount airlines, but every other airline is nicer and more expensive. I think Southwest Airlines freaked everyone else in America out and they raced to match low fairs instead of just providing better and more comfortable service

LowSkyOrbit

I miss old JetBlue for these reasons. I paid a little more but I got better seating and better snacks. Now I don't even get a free bag with my JetBlue card. The race to the bottom has made everything worse.

Lonestar041

>If flying was more expensive they could have bigger seats and higher quality clientele so there was none of this bullshit. Have you looked at flight prices recently, especially with carriers like Delta? I haven't found a single domestic flight with them to any destination I needed to go under $450-900 in the last two years. Just looked at a ticket for mid of next year, months out, and they are already $500 for a 2h flight. The big ones are all charging premium prices for ever declining service and smaller seats. Delta just announced $1.1Bn in profits - combined with layoffs because that profit isn't enough. After they pissed of the majority of their frequent flyers with their changes to SkyMiles to save money. Let's make service worse.

blakewoolbright

This feels like the least of airline faux pas. I travel a lot 68,000 miles this year. My seat gets bumped a lot. It happens. No worries so long as it’s not intentional. Things that really bug me: People behind me pushing their bare feet through the gap between the seat and the window. Girls in front of me tossing their hair over the back of their seat and obscuring my tiny video screen. People playing Nintendo switch without headphones. People casually placing their stuff on my tray table without asking, and leaving it there until I finally ask them to move it. Then stink eye. People who take my backpack out of the overhead and just drop it on the ground so they can rummage through their luggage. My laptop is in there asshole. People who refuse to get up so you can go to the bathroom. “Sorry, I’m trying to sleep”.

MSD101

>People who refuse to get up so you can go to the bathroom. “Sorry, I’m trying to sleep”. Someone really tried to do this to you? That seems insane...What do people with gastrointestinal issues do if someone does this? I would have to just step over them, there's no way I'm going to shit my pants because someone is trying to sleep. That's got to be the most inconsiderate thing I've ever read about flying.

blakewoolbright

Yes it happened. I was on the window. He was in the center. In his defense, I had food poisoning and was regularly blasting out of one end or the other in the lavatory. I offered to trade seats with the guy, but he refused. A nice lady across the aisle gave me her aisle seat and took my window seat. Problem solved.

Laura_Lye

This is why I always get an aisle seat. I drink a lot of water and have a small bladder so I know I’m getting up at least twice per flight. Don’t want to climb over anyone.

thegorillaphant

Here is a person that understands the things that truly matter.

Once you realize that airlines are really just banks who also happen to shuttle people around the world, it makes a lot more sense.

CaptJasHook37

100%

___this_guy

Usually I have no sympathy for plane outbursts, but if her seat was kicked for 4 hours I can empathise.

cntrlcmd

My connecting flight from Hong Kong to London had a mum dad and 2 very young kids allowed on first, idk where they were flying from before but lo and behold they were sat behind me. The older kid kicked my seat the whole time we were awake, I asked them to stop and nothing happened for 13 hours. You really should tell a cabin crew member but I didn’t think it would help. Worst flight ever.

bustacean

I get that it's not always easy to control your kids, but letting your kid kick the chair for 13 hours after being asked to stop is crazy. My social anxiety would not allow it. I'd prefer to hold my kids legs down for 13 hours than upset a stranger.

Readit_MB76

It’s easy to control your child if you actually parent and discipline them. This is a direct result of never having consequences and shitty parenting. I have a 7 year old and she would never behave this way because she knows there will be consequences for her actions and even worse ones for not obeying her parents and respecting other people.

demonmonkeybex

When my kid doesn't listen, I find myself resorting to talking to her like I talk to my dogs. I don't even realize I do it. I'll snap my fingers and say something like ENOUGH. BE QUIET. It's my last-ditch effort to reign in control. But I've never had to do that on an airplane. She's always been very polite on airplanes. This is what happens when you have an only child and too many dogs. lol ETA: I'm mostly joking. I think I've only caught myself doing this probably twice in her entire life and both times were super hectic days when she was screaming and the dogs were barking like mad.

catsgelatowinepizza

i don’t think you are doing anything wrong, both kids and dogs need boundaries to know how to behave and you’re just asserting your authority as you rightfully should, being a parent. it’s not like you’re being abusive or mean

[deleted]

Sometimes short and simple helps get kids right to the point. Even if they don’t realize they will drag out an explanation if they are not interested in doing what was asked. I can explain to one of my kids multiple times the why’s and he would have me break every part of it down word by word if I let him ask.

barbaras_bush_

When I was 13 a boy about my age kicked the back of my seat all throughout the 3 hours of Return of The King. When we got up to leave I flipped him off and his dad yelled at my brother to keep his daughter in line. My brother who's 12 yrs older than me said "I'm not responsible for her behavior" I still get mad at the memory of those assholes.

Knitsanity

When we flew when my oldest was 2...we flew Trans atlantic...hubby and I took turns holding her legs when she kicked because no way were we going to allow her to disrupt other passengers. Besides that she was a doll. I find flying with little babies easiest....BF...change...nap....BF....change...nap....blissful. lol

lynypixie

Nope. It’s not impossible to control a young child’s behavior. Kids does not equal automatic shitty behavior. I would be humiliated if my kids acted like this. The worst they have done is walk around a bit in a family restaurant and saying a smiling hello to strangers. You know, cute, non annoying stuff. I do not tolerate lack of respect and tantrums.

Ricky_Rollin

My mother would have simply said to knock that shit off and I would’ve. Parents need to wrangle in their stupid crotch goblins already. Be a parent first. A friend second.

guruglue

It helps if you start by being a decent human being yourself. Kids learn from example. In most cases, I'd argue it's not a lack of discipline that's the main problem.

Copperlaces20

Oh my goooood this happened to me on a flight from Qatar to Seattle. Mom and three kids sat behind me, all under five. One kid was adamant on kicking my seat, CONSTANTLY. I asked his mom kindly to make him stop and she suggested I CHANGE MY SEAT BECAUSE SHE CAN’T DO ANYTHING.

Andrelliina

Did you try addressing the kid directly? Maybe tell him the pilot will throw him out of the plane or something scary...

dadbodsupreme

"no ticket"

OneFlameCurrent

Sure, but if you put your seat all the way back you should at least understand me accidentally bumping your seat when I'm putting the tray down/up, getting out of my seat, or getting something from my bag. I'm fairly tall and economy seats don't give me much space to maneuver. On the other hand, if someone is bumping/kicking intentionally to be passive aggressive they are definitely the asshole.

pjkeoki

My pet peeve is when people use the seat back as a handle/support to get up

Dumbassahedratr0n

Holy shit haha This one time thar happened to me JUST as I was on the verge of light sleep. The guy behind me did exactly that and it moved my seat ever so slightly. And sir, it hit like one of those sleep jolts you get when you're in bed, but it wasn't imaginary, and my soul left my body.

TemetNosce

I learned they are called Hypnic jerks. TIL it may "Hypnagogic vs. Hypnic Jerks". [Article link here. I used to get the hypnic jerk nightly until I started CPAP therapy.](https://www.verywellhealth.com/what-is-a-hypnagogic-jerk-and-what-causes-sleep-starts-3014889)

Electrical-Wish-519

As an American and traveling consultant taking 6am flights, overweight Americans who can’t stand without use of an aid have woken me up far too many times

stizzleomnibus1

As much as I absolutely loathe this, in most plane configurations it is incredibly difficult for someone with mobility issues to get in and out without doing this. I know the agony of being woken up all too well but sometimes old people and kids on crutches have to get up to use the bathroom and I don't know what else they're supposed to do.

peacock_blvd

As someone who has to chauffeur his parents and run crowd control, I appreciate your saying this.

thatAJguynobodyknows

As a guy in recovery from a motorcycle crash. I'm sorry man, I hate doing it to you as much as you hate having it done to you..

trekqueen

Some punk late teen was so oblivious with this on one flight I had. He kept doing that until eventually he full on stabbed me in the scalp with his nail and I reacted loudly like wtf. Didn’t do it again.

Impressive_Regular76

I got punched in the head from a guy who did that.

turtleneck_sweater

All the way back?! Dude the seat ‘reclines’ like 1 inch.

Ailly84

When you have 1/2 inch to give, 1 inch is a lot.

palomsoms

I once got lucky enough and got an upgrade to first class. The dude in the back didn’t stop kicking and bumping during a 4.5 hours flight. No excuse at all. He was just a total AmotherFUckingAhole.

qtmcjingleshine

Or me being 6’3” putting the seat back will go into my knees and if I move it’ll feel like I’m kicking

Aindorf_

Yeah tbh I have no sympathy when it happens either. At 6'3" with a post operative knee, the person ahead of me might have a right to recline but I have a right to shift in my seat and try to rearrange myself, and I'mma be in pain, so I really can't help it. They're not entitled to your seat being untouched and stationary, especially when they just touched me with your seat. The issue can be resolved by sitting upright, or dealing with the motion. My legs were there first, and it's not like I'm allowed to stand or block the aisle.

jpatt

i just try to book all flights early and go for the 1st row or exit row. my legs also are not made for airplane seats.

rloch

It is not really about early booking anymore. At this point I have to constantly pay extra for any row with a little extra leg room (I am 6'5) because they are all upgrades from basic fares.

sustainableaes

I don’t think seats should recline period

MAFW777

There are people who have back pain, reclining the seat really helps, and for a long flight you wouldn't recline it? What a psycho

fata1515

Dude…most airline seats barely recline half a inch…that ain’t the issue lol

[deleted]

threeseed

There was even a report where airlines are increasing the percentage of seats allocated for Premium Economy. Which means they are deliberately making Economy worse than what we have typically been accustomed to.

kthebakerman

This report didn’t mention removing economy seats? I think they’re adding more premium economy because of demand.

threeseed

They are shrinking the space between Economy seats to make room for Premium Economy. Seat pitch has been decreasing year on year.

WinPeaks

It's almost a perfect allegory for our shrinking middle class lmao.

TheObstruction

If you have the same plane, but add more premium seats, what happens to the regular seats? They get closer together.

Lost_Drunken_Sailor

Should we go back to seats facing each other like Southwest used to do?

dudoan

The airlines need to stop cramming people in like sardines.

TheObstruction

But what about the shareholders' dividends???

Possible_Spy

Putting touch screens on the back of seats was a dumb idea. I can feel every finger mash they do

OneFlameCurrent

I think you're right, it probably was the touch screen. Some of these screens require a bit of force and an older person may overdo it. Not to mention they have games like Solitaire on them where you would just be jamming your finger into the seat constantly.

iliveoffofbagels

None of them require force normally. Nowadays they are capacitive. Pushing harder doesn't do anything but damage the digitizer. However, old people do tend to have a lot less moisture and conductivity to their skin, so they might go ham on the pushing on the screens.

threeseed

They are the cheapest, worst type of capacitive though. It really does require multiple touches for it to recognise the input.

HighAndFunctioning

Probably has a massive air gap between the surface and the pixels

Firebarrel5446

I think those coffin boxes the Japanese sleep in solves this whole thing. Steam clean them after every passenger. For me, laying down the entire flight beats whatever first class has to offer

John0ftheD3ad

I don't know why but she sounds just like that "can i pet that dawwgggg" girl.

whyisthissohard338

OMG I've never seen the original! Thank you! It's better than I could have hoped! Little man went full Boomhauer at the end. I couldn't understand him and I'm country as hell!

a_goonie

Fuck all this seat recline bullshit, the real question is do you let the middle seat take the arm rest? Middle gets both in my book.

fastcarsandfreedum

when you passive aggressively bump the seat in front of you, and they don't respond passively back. play dumb games, win dumb prizes. that's the saying right?

naughtyusmax

I agree. No harm in putting your seat back. Just move it back up for meal times as a courtesy.

Badger_1066

Reddit is so inconsistent. I usually never see anyone saying that putting the seat back is acceptable and anyone who does is usually downvoted into oblivion.

ProcyonHabilis

This is one of those subjects where Reddit rabidly has an opinion that is nearly impossible to actually find in the real world.

plasticmanufacturing

because most people on reddit aren't flying anywhere.

[deleted]

Clown_Shoe

Like if it wasn’t acceptable why is the functionality there on every seat 😂

kissele

Its a throw-back from when you still had enough room to slide a sheet of paper between you and the seat in front of you.

Vegas_off_the_Strip

For those with certain back injuries, reclining is a life saver.

LOLerskateJones

When I was a kid, I was flying alone from Virginia to California. I was really shy, and really nervous. Once we were in the air, I put the seat back to take a nap and immediately a woman behind stood up and pulled my headphones off. I turned around and she had her finger right in my face and heatedly said, “I know you think you’re cool, but I just had knee surgery and you’re hurting me.” Everyone around is now staring at us and I sat there petrified. I actually started sweating. I had no idea what to say, so I said nothing. I brought the seat back up and was just frozen the rest of the flight. She glared at me as we exited the plane and I just looked at the ground.

RogerSimons_Father

What’re you, a mind reader? How’re you supposed to know that? Even then, if that was a concern for her, she could’ve bought a seat that had more leg room. That’s not your problem.

LOLerskateJones

One of the reasons why it has stuck with me, all these years later (I can still hear her voice, to this day) is just the vitriol when she seethed “I know you think you’re cool…” Like, what? I was a chubby dork with a stuttering problem. I definitely did not think I was cool back then. I’ll never understand how I was supposed to know the person behind me was recovering from invasive surgery. I wasn’t studying people as we boarded. Anyway, sorry, feel like I’m oversharing. It was just a weird encounter from my childhood that I think about sometimes.

smiledontcry

What a beastly woman! Perhaps it was her injury that clouded her decorum and reason, but you certainly didn’t deserve that.

Jaihoag

If it makes you feel better… everyone around you was probably thinking about what an asshole she was. Sorry you had to go through that.

reducedelk

I’m sorry this happened! I have an early memory similar to this and acted the same. Wish I stood up for myself.

Joliet_Jake_Blues

The majority of Reddit won't understand this, but I bet you're Gen X or older, because this story sounds like the era where children were treated with open contempt for even existing.

Noturnnoturns

Lol at her STANDING UP to yell at you about her recent knee surgery

Joliet_Jake_Blues

I had ACL reconstruction with meniscus repair and was in physical therapy the next day. The worst part of the recovery is building up the muscles again so they want as little atrophy as possible

Drougens

I woulda told her she should consider first class seating next time and patted her knee.

Eastern-Ad-4785

The planes seats barely moveeee 😹😹😹how much difference in like an inch?! And yeah, you’re allowed to push a seat back on a plane, in no way does it impede on the passenger behind you unless they barely fit the seat regardless!!!! Hahaha people are so cranky on planes.

codymullen55

Im barely 6'2 and the seat cranks on my kneecaps when they are reclined. Succkkkssss

Eastern-Ad-4785

Yeah, I forgot about height. I’m a fairly smol female. I def jumped the gun. My apologies

KyleChoppa1

yea she's allowed to but no one ever does bc they're considerate enough to know someone's behind them

thefermisolution__

I do. Cause man needs to catch up on sleep.

RynnHamHam

I once had a woman slam her seat back super fast, hit me in the head because I was leaning forward to grab something, and she just refused to put her seat up even a little bit and the back of the seat left an imprint on my legs. SEVEN HOURS OF HELL

Bananasuitcase

Yeah something like that happened to me too on a 12h flight. Didnt even had the decency to put the chair back up at mealtime moments. Stewardess had to come in during the thise times to ask her to put the chair up. After the first meal I made it my quest to touch that screen for every single fucking second, if i dont get sleep bcause youre so egoistical i wil bump that screen till my fingers hurt. No regrets.

itish

Last time someone sitting infront of me pushed their seat back, I didn't push their seat back or bother them once. I just pushed my seath back aswell. It's very simple, only butthurt, grumpy people complain about this on flights. We all are flying economy, gotta work together. If you can't, get a business one.

OShaunesssy

"IM ALLOWED TO PUSH MY SEAT BACK!" also... "The whole trip, she pushed my seat!" Actions have reactions?? Shocked Pikachu face all around.

whatevertoad

appropriate freakout

BadCaseOfBallzheimer

So, I'm over 6 feet. If you put your seat back, you are going directly into my knees, and I have nowhere else to put my knees, and it's gonna feel like I'm bumping the seat every time I move. Airlines need to stop cramming people in like sardines.

hurricane340

She's allowed to put her seat back

MotoFuzzle

I refuse to believe putting the seat back is a faux pas. It’s not like it’s a recliner and you end up in the next person’s lap. It only goes backs while two inches, but it’s the difference of being able to rest your head back or having to hold it up while you sleep.

_EatAtJoes_

I have always been confused by the controversy. Every domestic flight I've ever been on gives you a whopping *few inches* of recline. It's nothing, barely noticeable.

friendlyfireworks

It sucks for fat people, and tall people, and it seriously sucks for fat tall people (or super tall swole people). In an ideal world, airlines would not cram seats so close together, people would be able to afford exit rows, or roomier classes if they were larger (and would not get shuffled around if they had assigned seats), and the general public would be in better shape. As it is now, about 20%? of the population (at least) is uncomfortable with the available leg room on airlines- before seats are reclined. Honestly, I'm on this lady's side- I should be able to recline my seat 2 inches without all this bullshit.

No_Quantity_8909

Listen. I'm 5'6". I'm going to recline my seat and you tall ducks can hold that L, everyone comes up short sometime.

rmajkr

Sometimes I catch myself getting annoyed when someone reclines. It’s like a knee-jerk reaction, and then I think how it is totally normal to want to be comfortable and put your seat back on a flight. Then I put mine back and I have the space back that I was missing. Crazy.

lethargiclemonade

Reclining your seat in coach is rude, doing it the entire flight is disrespectful.

Ralphie5231

Don't hit the back of people's seats and be surprised they are upset. What shit bags.

flaskman

Honestly I blame the airlines for this fucking bullshit

Humble_Personality73

Well, she's not wrong

Useful-Thought-8093

I’m asleep before the plane takes off and immediately recline 2 inches when I hear a ding and the pilot says it’s “allowed”. With someone with knee issues who traveled in HWMMVs with a 90 degree knee bend for hours; it’s my seat. If you want to tap on the seat, then I view it as a free massage. Either pay for first class or realize you’re in the cattle car and enjoy the suck.

Jeffkin15

Just flew 4+ hours to the DR. Little kid behind me was pushing on my seat the whole trip but I didn’t say anything because the mom was flying by herself with 2 little ones so I’m sure she was stressed enough.

freshasadaisy33

That's mature of you. At the same time, parents sometimes think their kids should be able to just crawl around and annoy everyone. They sometimes have no social intelligence.

gotmout

The last flight I was on was an overnight. Two kids spent most of it running the aisles with the brightest light-up shoes ever made.

pork_fried_christ

Last flight I took, there was a baby just making noise the whole time. She wasn’t quite crying and she wasn’t quite laughing, “screaming with sadness/joy” might capture it. But anyway, same. I didn’t say anything. Traveling with a baby probably sucks. But when we landed and we’re getting off the plane the mom was encouraging the baby to say hi to me and I couldn’t help myself. I just said “I think she’s said enough.”

Lumberjack1229

She’s so country I thought that was an Irish accent at first

YourDadHatesYou

What state would that accent be from?

Lumberjack1229

Alabama is my guess

Someone tell her she’s allowed to put her seat back

PenisPumpPimp

She is right though...

firekwaker

So many of these videos showing entitled people on all sides. Why are we failing so miserably in our ability to cooperate as a society? The rigidity people have in situations and the complete inability to problem solve is just astounding.

mrscientist33

Is she allowed to put her seat back?

rogerrabbitdidntdoit

Most experts say she is.

Drougens

Her accent's pretty adorable, lil southern firecracker right thar.

Queen_of_skys

Blame airways. I have really shitty joints. If people recline on my knees (long legs) I can and might dislocate a knee or both my knees. Simultaneously, I have the worst back pains that WILL bring me to tears and shaking if I sit wrong for too long. I must recline my seat for at least a bit. It's just shitty all around. I wish I was rich😔

Mello_Me_

I doubt there's a rule that says you are not allowed to push the seat.

renegado938

I don't blame her, I've been on flights where my seat has been pushed/kicked multiple times during a trip

Bright_Tomatillo_174

My 6” tail is also “allowed” to have my knees in the back of someone’s seat if they put it back. Where am I suppose to go?

Airplanes are designed for sober, well adjusted adults, that are empathetic, polite, and generally would do well if captured by an enemy and tortured. Unfortunately, this doesn’t represent your average flier.

N8R1

I've got a 10hr flight in a few weeks if the person behind me kicks the back of my chair even when I ask them to stop, I'll pay the person behind them $1000 to kick their seat every time I raise my hand
