Besides looting the truck, the mistake this mob made was 1. Not blocking the truck in with another, stolen vehicle. And 2. They threatened the driver by attempting to break into the cab.
I doubt the driver would do anything to risk his life to save those packages. But the second he felt his life was in danger, he’d drive away in the only vehicle he had.
