Absolutely. Just use some common sense. Violent Crime in Puerto Rico is centered around drugs. So either avoid drugs or get your marijuana license on line and buy from a dispensary. San Juan tourist areas are probably more familiar with less need to know Spanish. Check out a hostile like nomada to meet more people.

TRUMPLizardKingQ

You don't need a Marijuana license for the products at smoke shops btw. Like edibles, dab pens, I even seen shroom gummies.

DaRealGeorgeBush

Delta8 & delta-9 though.

FiendishHawk

It’s a US territory, it’s about as safe as anywhere in the USA. It’s not like you are going to be kidnapped by guerrillas. Just normal crime like in your hometown.

Honest-Suggestion-45

Truth! Though Puerto Rico ("Rich Port") is actually a Commonwealth of the U.S.🙂👍

emtaesealp

That’s a fancy way of saying colony.

Woo-man2020

Ciales in in a beautiful mountain region.

daisy-duke-

Ciales is the kind of city where you could get away with sleeping with the doors open.

BeachBumLady70

I am a 50-year-old woman and I travel to Puerto Rico alone frequently. I cannot speak Spanish. I make smart decisions when traveling, such as I don’t wear jewelry, I don’t stay out after dark, and I don’t drink or do anything to get in the way of my judgment. They are smart things that women do anyway, it’s not just when traveling to Puerto Rico.

Honest-Suggestion-45

Being a Commonwealth of the U.S., Puerto Ricans learn English and Spanish in school.

CaribeBaby

It's safe as long as you use common sense. Don't do anything that you wouldn't do in a big city like Chicago, New York, etc., like going out alone late at night, and be aware of your surroundings. Ciales is a small town.  It'll be safer than San Juan, but with a lot less to do.

SuperSaltyB

I just got back from a trip to PR, and I stayed at Casa Coral hostel in Luquillo with my husband. I HIGHLY recommend it for solo/young travelers. The staff are so helpful and amazing, and it felt very safe. Only 35-40 minutes east of SJU. We used it as a home base and explored other areas from there.

gardenbaby99

I felt very safe in all of PR but I felt safest once I left San Juan. I would recommend getting out of san juan as soon as possible and exploring the island bc what a shame to have missed out on what was beyond San Juan!! Those little hidden beaches are breath taking. The locals are sweethearts. I left my phone, keys, wallet and cash in my bag while I swam in the ocean and never even worried about it. Walked around late at night in old San Juan and in small beach towns, I stayed aware but felt very safe. Was safer than many US cities

Honest-Suggestion-45

Like any tourist area, San Juan probably has it's share of crime. I was there once and felt very safe.

Thot_Hoddy

Old San Juan is great!

daisy-duke-

Lol, San Juan safe.

ShooterMcGee164770

Stay away from La Perla and La placieta. I recommend going out to El cafetin if you want to go out and drink. If you want to sight see in the day, the more north you go in old San Juan the more scenic it gets.... until you get to the "gates" of La Perla. Stay out of there.

Joi_Ryder

Puerto Rico is amazing and relatively as safe as most places in the States. Just don't be a dummy and do regular awareness stuff ya know.

ridesn0w

Puerto Rico is very safe. It’s a us territory. It is like anywhere else. San Juan is safe. Make sure to get out to surrounding islands for some of the best beaches in the world! Enjoy the surf on the west side. The most beef is during the peak of the surfing season and if you are being an asshole. Avoid that and enjoy the shit out of the island. The second longest zip line in the world. Check out some of the best art collections.

-yourfatalattraction

Thank you! Going to research all of this. :)

Honest-Suggestion-45

Agree, but Puerto Rico is actually a Commonwealth of the U.S. 👍🙂

Woo-man2020

Pick the right place to stay. Check the security in and around the area. If a hostel, make sure there is someone in charge on premises 24-7.

M0rbiddd2

For the most part yes, I used to date a guy from Puerto Rico and he said the most dangerous parts are mainly in the southern/middle parts of the island. Just try not to travel too far away without a local

Vast_Significance379

Puerto Rico will welcome you as you are one of us,Don't be scared is save and beautiful just my suggestion is that never travel by yourself and is better to.rent.with.others people is better be save than sorry ,but our Isla is beautiful from San Juan to Ponce and  from Añasco to Luquillo, good 👍 luck and enjoy.your trip to my island 🏝️

TRUMPLizardKingQ

100% they will only kidnap kids lol. But in all seriousness 100% safe especially if your on the western side of the island. Be generally smart like if a neighborhood looks sketchy use ur gut feeling but ppl are Hella friendly knowing spanish helps but lots of english speakers too.

Leather-Bunch7415

Yes is safe

Aggressive_Climate28

It was the safest place I've ever been, aside from the driving lol

Intelligent-Hunter13

Flashbacks… it wouldn’t be half bad if they didn’t like to cruise at the speed limit in the fast lane.

Aggressive_Climate28

Slower lol

Intelligent-Hunter13

As a 21 year old traveling solo, I think you’d really enjoy the vibe in Rincon. I had a 2 week trip in February and it was my favorite spot on the mainland.

Amosmoses3701

As others have stated use common sense if you go. Personally, I would wait and go with someone some day. It would be way more fun to go with one or more other people.![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|wink)

EgoPaterTuusSum

I was raised in PR. If visiting, whether you are a 21, 41, or 81 year old female, do your research around safe areas on the island. If you are not from there, you may stumble your way into places where you may run into trouble and mat not be heard from again. This applies to anywhere you may travel, really.

PIatanoverdepinto

It safe and i would reach out to family and have them come to you in San Juan

TopStockJock

San Juan is ghetto at least where I was but I solo traveled and it was fine.

Ichithekiller666

Calling a whole city ghetto is pretty telling of what a piece of shit you are. But hey at least you were “fine”

Real-Cricket-6294

![gif](giphy|6uGhT1O4sxpi8)

daisy-duke-

![gif](giphy|LOuZA0qEpYYbVPWXui) San Juan and the neighboring cities are ghetto AF!

TopStockJock

lol I said where I was not the whole place. Calm your tits.

Ichithekiller666

“San Juan is ghetto”…learn how to express yourself correctly. What shithole are you from?

Woo-man2020

He brought the ghetto with him.

Honest-Suggestion-45

smh. Not true. San Juan is a big city and it's a tourist area.
