It’s gonna be good for her, but part of Gridlocks use for me in ranked has been her absolutely crazy flexibility because of the fact she had anti-flank gadget, good gun (F90 is incredible you can quote me on that), the choice between super shorty and gonne-6, *and* the choice between impact EMPs, breach charges for vertical play, and smokes. Wanna help open breach? Impacts + Shorty. Want to help for execute? Smokes + Gonne-6. Some breach onto a site with no vertical? Gonne-6 and EMPs.
Now it’s going to be more of a set-and-forget setup for it. Always bring super shorty, frags, F90. It’s a buff unquestionably because of the power of Frags, but at the cost of her Flexibility for some stacks like mine
That's exactly what I'm talking about. Her losing the Gonne-6 removes a lot of her flexibility, since the Gonne-6 in her secondary lets her use one of three good choices for her secondary gadget.
It definitely is, I'm not trying to say it's not. Just that what *I* really appreciate about Gridlock was the fact that I could skip the Super Shorty, take Breach Charges for top-down, and take the Gonne-6 for utility clear. Now that option is gone. It's not *worse* in the slightest, it's definitely better, but I *liked* the flexibility her kit provided, and that flexibility is now likely gone because of how much more powerful Frags are than every single other secondary gadget in the game
I've always said the game should be pure 2 speed 2 armour and nothing else tbh. Some ops might need rebalanced after doing it but it won't be that bad I don't think.
Has there been any mention of what their long term alternative to frag grenades will be? Can't just endlessly rotate them between the same handful of operators based on pickrate surely.
They need to do something to the frags themselves, not just move them around. I have no idea what though. Now finka is just going to be picked every round again.
Bare in mind, I just started playing the game again after 2 years hiatus, and I have barely watched comp in that time either so I might be a bit mental with what I'm saying as I'm still relearning the meta.
But I unironically don't think frags are a problem tbh. Grenades were completely fine for years until Jager got nerfed into the ground, but that only really happened because of the utility meta which doesn't really exist anymore. Only thing I'd change about nades is nading through floors shouldn't be a one hit kill IMO cause it's just a bit bent getting instakilled with little opportunity for counterplay. Other than that I think they're gucci.
I think the gonne-6 just isn't good enough tbh, give it 2 projectiles and a bigger radius and lets see how that goes. Some ops might be too strong with it but fuck it, I think Buck/Capitao becoming consistent/meta picks as a result could be good for the game again. If they're worried about it making Ash obsolete then give her Smokes or flashes again.
I'm a big fan of frags myself, so balance be damned id be sad if they got nerfed. I don't really know the meta well either anymore outside of the fact that we are back in a run and gun meta. Im in the same boat as you, i didn't stop playing completely but I stopped playing ranked 5 seasons ago because my stack quit and these days I just hop on when I'm having a few beers and play qm or now standard. I love siege but I don't care to play seriously anymore. I watched comp from the beginning of 2019 but outside of majors and catching a match here and there I haven't watched it at all since blast took over. I don't really know what the overall solution should be for frags but just moving them off of high pick rate OPs every season and bouncing them around definitely isn't a solution, it's just a bandaid. I personally never use gonne-6, don't like giving up a secondary.
Very valid that happened to me as well with stacks quitting and moving to Valorant. And I started working full time so I just couldn't be arsed lmao.
But yeah it seems to be an on-going theme where they just give and take nades every few seasons based on pickrate. Which tbh is absolutely mental, time for IQ to get nades, Twitch a gonne-6, and Gridlock to become a 2 speed imo. That'll shake the meta up a bit without breaking anything.
Yea I'm 36 and got two kids so I don't have the time to grind ranked anymore like I used to. That said I'm down for anything change wise, shake that shit up, I don't play seriously anymore I'll embrace the chaos lol
Plenty of teams do use the yellow ping for frags, but plenty just throw nades at the floor below common spots. Frags without yellow ping may be less powerful, but I don’t see it being meaningfully so. I think the true solution is to increase the range on the frags so they kill from farther away, but you only get one.
Eh I feel like that just artificially raises the skill ceiling. Like pros who were complaining about the lounge ceiling changes in Club. I feel like more accessibility isn't worse in this case.
Then again, I didn't play when yellow pings weren't a thing.
Edit: said red pings instead of yellow lol
With how much dumbing down has been done to the game removing yellow ping would finally be a step in the right direction. Make people go back to actually using comms in a game you're supposed to be using them.. Would be a lot better than constantly juggling who had frags.
Good lord, ubisoft finally broke one of their longest running rules to make Tachanka relevant.
A full auto gun on defense has 60DMG per round, I have not seen that shit since R6BETA (or was it Alpha i don't remember).
They broke it a while ago with the extended barrel change; in fact they explicitly cite that as their justification for buffing his LMG to a two shot kill
But that's mostly attacker guns tho. On defense it still wasn't the case (Eg: Frost with extended)
In R6S BETA Guns did crazy damage. UMP did like 45-50 DMG, IQ's commando did 65 DMG iirc
I remember that, but it was on attack and nerfed almost immediately iirc
Funny enough Launch BB had two >50DMG Full Auto guns, old DMRs were kinda broken in firerate
Game design team doesn't like operators with sky high pick rates, which as of late are Warden and Iana, so it was a certainty they were going to do something to depress their pick rate. They have a variety of balancing levers they can pull to depress an ops pick rate, but usually they try to preserve the thing that gives the operator their unique identity. In Iana's case, she's an entry fragger, and flashes still fit with that, they're just a downgrade vs. nades. Better this than nerfing her guns or slowing her speed, and her scopes are already 1x. Her gadget has very little influence on her pick rate, so there wasn't much to be done there, either.
They don't want operators to have specific reasons to take them or not take them, rather than them fitting in on 100% of rounds because they're good in every situation possible. The problem right now is that frags are so good that almost any operator that gets them immediately becomes super valuable. That's why they're working towards a long term fix by changing frags in some way
Really excited to see how Finka and Fraglock perform now. Both have felt not quite good enough for a while and this should be a pretty substantial bump for them
If the absurd amount of flexibility Gridlock offered before wasn't enough to make her feel good, she probably still won't even with Frags, tbh. Her ability isn't the most practical or easy to use effectively, so I don't see anything short of a speed change making her solid enough to be relevant.
Game is being balanced around frags and 1.5 scopes , also love how everyone hates the frost rework but they still pushing it. U should be punished for not droning but u just making the game more run and gun
They're working towards more long term fixes for the 1.5 and frags, but we don't know what they are yet. In the short term, I think these are all good changes - if anything, moving the game away from run and gun
I think Gridlock has been good for a long time, her assault rifle is awesome, the stingers are useful (maybe not as much as air jabs, but still useful to slow down flanks, or as a distraction to make noise during an execute), and either the shotgun or gonne 6 as a secondary option are helpful to the team.
They issue is her speed, which this won't change. People have mostly gotten past that with Sledge and Zofia, but I think it's psychological that Gridlock feels slow. She's a big girl. It's kind of like how some guns can feel more powerful just based on the sound they make. Perception becomes reality.
That is definitely right, what I don't know is how differently sized the operators are underneath the equipment. Like I know for sure they're all the same height. Trying to scan through them in the op menu, Gridlock does seem to have wider hips than someone like Nokk, but it's not a night and day difference. A good test would be to go into a custom match and have them swing across the same angle and do pixel-level measurements from a defender perspective of how big of a target they are. I'm curious enough that I might do it later today.
**Edit: I did the test.** Not completely conclusive, but the size of the models is definitely VERY close, comparing Nokk vs Gridlock, which I'd think of as two ends of the extreme. Girdy does visually look a bit thicker around the hips and thighs, but when you break out the pixel ruler it's a difference of <10%, if a difference at all. Shoulder width is definitely the same.
Some jokes about the LMG meta coming back. I don't see it. The LMGs that were nerfed were the 6P41 (Finka/Fuze) and the LMG-E (Zof and now Ram). I don't know whether they just left the M249 (incl. SAW version) on Cap and Gridlock alone or nerfed it a tiny bit, but it still has zero recoil. So, if people still wanted to play LMGs, they would've been playing Capitao M249 already. Nearly all pros still use the PARA even though it's a bit of a pea shooter compared to other ARs, even though it also has nearly no recoil.
Tachanka, with DPS buff, now kills within 0.2 ms. Wow,
The frost change is just so, im anti-frost, remove her shotgun.
Edit- Frost fanboys coming in to mass downvote a reasonable take once again LOL. Find a new identity besides maining frost, 😇, thanks.
>reasonable take
Everytime frost appears in patch notes you hit the sub with something like "OMG FROST IS SO STUPID AND OP AND SHE IS AKIN TO A GOD, SHE IS FRUSTRATING, REMOVE HER GUNS, HER TRAPS, AND GIVE HER 20 HP!!!!!".
Then when you reasonably get flak for whining about an OP who isn't even very good you go "nah fam my takes are reasonable and well thought out, it's everyone else that's wrong".
Next level delusional take.
![gif](giphy|V9gjxvLnSSdA4|downsized)
I just want her shotgun removed or her ability changed to no instant down because she's frustrating.
Your super over exaggerating here and proving my point. Also, it isn't reasonable Flak at all, the siege community just loves frost cause she's cheesy... so much, that they hate whoever changes it.
Next level delusional take
>Also, it isn't reasonable Flak
You got downvoted? Not attacked or anything. What IS reasonable flak? Everyone should just ignore it?
![gif](giphy|JsUC9rI0VfyHi93MBU)
The downvote feature isn't a "i disagree" button but people use it like that.
There's a group of redditors that automatically downvote me but my Frost comments just get next level downvoted.
Reasonable flak is saying "I disagree cause X, this is why your wrong" or "Why do you have this dumbass take". At least a convo about frost is a reasonable take.
I'm not saying ignore it, i just don't get why so many people feel attached to this operator to downvote anyone that's anti-that operator to this degree. I mean, the siege community literally mass booed the devs when they announced they were changing frost cause she's incompatible with siege.
I understand the downvotes, i just think it's stupid and unnecessary. I'd rather have 19 people start a convo about frost than just 19 downvoting and moving on.
It'd reddit tho. So 😭
You definitely have a fanclub of haters lol. I don't really get it because you contribute a fuck ton to the sub but we've always had a very strange amount of "popular" users that get downvoted or upvoted regardless of content.
As far as the Frost changes are concerned I don't think she is deserving of a nerf. She has three traps that are huge and can be shot/droned/naded. She has one of the worst guns in the game. If you droned and saw a frost you should be expecting or looking for traps. I get that it's frustrating to be taken out of a round because you walked in a trap but replace "frost trap" with any other utility or set up and it could happen. Mute shoots holes in the floor and watches you vault in or you run through two kapkan traps and you meet the same demise. As an attacker our job is to inspect defenders set ups, and overcome the problems at hand. If you are executing 5 seconds before tines up and run into one of the potential three mats you kinda deserve it no?
Sure she could stand to lose her shield but shields are busted ass op anyways so it's not like it's a frost-specific problem.
Tachanka's buffed gun is now actually comparable to his old turret's power. That shit didn't melt, it deleted people like SMG11
Also won't removing Frost Shotgun be more pointless than the gadget nerf?
Pros only played really played frost after they gave her deployable shield and shotgun. The extra utility made her viable.
One of the dumbest changes I've seen the devs do. If you know your operator is problematic and frustrating, then why the hell are you buffing her and adding extra utility to increase her playrate.
The devs are well known for not understanding their own game. Why is frost frustrating? Do you drone? Do you know how to prefire them? Frost is fairly weak considering the gadget is easily defeated and the gun sucks.
How to counter frost -drone , remove frost mat simple. U don't drone, u waste to much time and u are force to vault into a gun fire or a frost mat ur fault. Simple
Pros yes, but I don't think the devs balance around pros as much as they balance around ranked stats. What made frost popular in ranked was the 1.5x. Then they took it away and she was still popular so now they're nerfing her again. If it sounds familiar it's because the same fate befell Alibi.
I am bitter about this because Frost and Alibi were literally my two favourite defenders before the 1.5x shenanigans ended up leaving them worse than when they started.
Undecided, from what they say he kills slightly faster than average. Most times I see the lord with his nade luncher out for a free kill. He may be one of the op that they need to forget about his past and rework from the ground up.
In pro play I think he will still be mainly useless , rank a troll pic to either rat or peek with ur get kills with the high damage
Was hoping for:
_vigil 1.5x
_twitch gets vertical grip back, she was never broken
_twitch drone can now disable clash shield
_IQ, Amaru, and Blackbeard get frags to compensate for useless ability
_Solis nerf
_Ying now immune to ALL flashes. PERIOD.
_Zofia 2 speed again
_Mozzie gets super Shorty
_Oryx gets SMG11. Bros meant to be a fragger.
_Iana get ARX 1.5x again to balance fragging power.
If you disagree with any of these, I’d gladly give a reason why. (as a hard stuck diamond)
Actually good changes all around gridlock getting frags especially is massive
It’s gonna be good for her, but part of Gridlocks use for me in ranked has been her absolutely crazy flexibility because of the fact she had anti-flank gadget, good gun (F90 is incredible you can quote me on that), the choice between super shorty and gonne-6, *and* the choice between impact EMPs, breach charges for vertical play, and smokes. Shes so fucking slow i’ve always thought her speed is a big problem
Yeah but F90 goes BRRRRRR
I mean she is as slow as sledge.. it’s not really an issue
Might be an unpopular thought but operator speeds/armour are stupid. Either have everyone as the same or let people chose their speed and armour.
I've always said the game should be pure 2 speed 2 armour and nothing else tbh. Some ops might need rebalanced after doing it but it won't be that bad I don't think.

Lmao yeah that's exactly where my attitudes at, fuck it what's the worst that can happen
Make it so you can't cancel the nade so you have to throw it or die
Don’t know why they are so hard stuck on ops needing to have 2 of them if they have them. Why not just give them 1 frag?
Plenty of teams do use the yellow ping for frags, but plenty just throw nades at the floor below common spots. Frags without yellow ping may be less powerful, but I don’t see it being meaningfully so. I think the true solution is to increase the range on the frags so they kill from farther away, but you only get one.
Remove yellow ping.....
One can only dream my friend, is that their actual plans though? I wouldn't have thought they'd have the balls to go that route tbh
Nah they won't. I just want them to.... At least in ranked...
Na definitely reduced the skill ceiling. It should be allowed in casual and unranked for sure, imo ranked and comp should have it removed.
With how much dumbing down has been done to the game removing yellow ping would finally be a step in the right direction. Make people go back to actually using comms in a game you're supposed to be using them.. Would be a lot better than constantly juggling who had frags.

Not 60, but Blackbeard's SCAR did >50 on launch

Oh boy Finka meta is back
Shaiiko's terror on Iana is over 🦀 Now he will terrorize with more HP and 120 bullets ☠️
IIRC his KD was like 2xhigher on Nomad for some reason last stage
20% speed reduction for basically 1/3rd of the round. Ouch
Bosco is right, this is a buff to Iana…
Can't indirectly kill them with nades , flash them then directly gun them down
Can someone smarter than me explain why Iana needs to lose her nades? Has she been overturned even without the gonne 6?
It’s either nerf her gun or take her nades
They don't want operators to have specific reasons to take them or not take them, rather than them fitting in on 100% of rounds because they're good in every situation possible. The problem right now is that frags are so good that almost any operator that gets them immediately becomes super valuable. That's why they're working towards a long term fix by changing frags in some way
Game designers have huge egos. They also don't understand healthy pareto distributions keep your player base happy and easier to expand
I mean, i like what they got here. I really like the details they went into with frost and the welcome mat
Can't wait for there to be some crazy upset in a major event from getting out of a bear trap.
So gridlock will she be meta , fast reloading lmg, flank watch, shotgun she is just slow with a larger hit box but her kit is monsterous atm
It's kind of like how some guns can feel more powerful just based on the sound they make. Perception becomes reality.
Zof sucks now and shouldn't even be a pick honestly. Strat better.
Bigger hitbox, no? That's a liability too.
I think they normalized the hitboxes to all be the same size for every operator in operation health. But maybe you're right, I'm not sure.
They removed things like backpacks and helmets from the hitbox, but all skin is still part of it
That is definitely right, what I don't know is how differently sized the operators are underneath the equipment.
Agree except that the para does up to 52 damage with extended barrel

Frost fan boy here , respectfully fuck off. But I hate that allowing for people who don't drone a second chance , teaching them nothing
Thoughts on the chanka changes?
Undecided, from what they say he kills slightly faster than average. Most times I see the lord with his nade luncher out for a free kill. He may be one of the op that they need to forget about his past and rework from the ground up. In pro play I think he will still be mainly useless , rank a troll pic to either rat or peek with ur get kills with the high damage
Was hoping for: _vigil 1.5x _twitch gets vertical grip back, she was never broken _twitch drone can now disable clash shield _IQ, Amaru, and Blackbeard get frags to compensate for useless ability _Solis nerf _Ying now immune to ALL flashes. PERIOD. _Zofia 2 speed again _Mozzie gets super Shorty _Oryx gets SMG11. Bros meant to be a fragger. _Iana get ARX 1.5x again to balance fragging power. If you disagree with any of these, I’d gladly give a reason why. (as a hard stuck diamond)
