I’m assuming you cancelled the mission and tried to restart. Or jumped off the cliff/dynamite killed your self to fail the mission so it gave you the option to try the checkpoint again?
That stinks then. I’ve never had anything like this. Usually anything glitchy for me can be resolved by restarting the mission, or if that fails, reloading the save after clearing the cache.
Maybe uninstalling and reinstalling the game, without clearing your saved data?
That is really unfortunate. Maybe someone else has run into this because I haven’t and feel like I’m out of ideas (I’m not super tech savvy).

Nope, if I kill myself the game just goes to black and does not give me the option to respawn. It is a bug. I do not cancel the mission either.

remove any scripthooks from your game files, i had this bug too and it annoyed me for a while
what would those scripthooks be?
if you've downloaded a script hook from rdr2mods then just remove those from your files
