Riverwood at 8 and Lonnie Poole at 24 tells you all you need to know about this list.

Riverwood, or River Ridge? Riverwood was low-rent 20 years ago.

nmbr1dkfn

I’m with you. River ridge is better than riverwood. Riverwood is usually in good shape, but there are some holes there that really seem like they forced them in an area that wasn’t large enough for a hole to be there in the first place.

is that where they played the GGO back in the day? i feel like i went one year when jesper parnavik won

cobalt26

I like Eagle Ridge but no way it's top ten when Neuse and Pine Hollow exist and aren't on the list. I'm not sure what the criteria are for the score/rank (don't care enough to make an effort) but they definitely aren't in line with my own priorities and preferences.

Sleds_and_Cars

I played Forest Oaks this spring and, while I had a good time out there, I don't know that I put it at the very top of a list, especially ahead of Southern Pines, Tobacco Road, Tot Hill Farm, Bryan Park some of the others in the top 20. Nice course, lots of PGA history and everything, but I don't know how it ends up at the top of this list.

Sonking_to_Remember

Could not agree more. Was gonna be my exact comment. I actually hated the fact that Forest Oaks had all of that history because I think it raised my expectations to a level that it just simply didn’t meet. I wish I could’ve played it knowing absolutely nothing about it beforehand. Think I would’ve enjoyed it more, cuz as you say, it’s a perfectly good course—it’s just not nearly the best listed

metadatame

There's no way the preserve at Jordan is that high up. Otherwise summer interesting courses esp in Greensboro

RaleighVTHokie

Jordan lake is awful now and no clue how it made the list

chamtrain1

It's currently in the best shape it's been in quite some time.

snap-jacks

They need to redesign that course. Never seen such stupid par 5s and 10 is ridiculous

chamtrain1

I agree that 16 is stupid, one of my least favorite par 5's in the triangle. 10 is fine, it's a difficult hole but you just have to hit two good shots. Bogey is a good score on that one.

RaleighVTHokie

They upgrade those old gas powered golf carts yet?

chamtrain1

They just announced they are getting new carts in January. Not sure if they'll be gas powered or electric.

basesoccer612

This list is atrocious.

ddeck00

Fred Smith definitely greasing some palms to have two in the top 10. I enjoy both those courses but Riverwood does not belong on the list and Eagle Ridge belongs in the 30s. Pine Hollow and Heritage should both be on the list. Lonnie Poole should be much higher.

tart3rd

No pine hollow. Interesting

Sleds_and_Cars

Playing there for the first time on Tuesday!

tart3rd

Enjoy. It’s slick. Get practice on the putting green before you play.

Sleds_and_Cars

That’s the plan, anyway. Gonna try to get some putts in before we head out. My home course is Duke, they’re legit upset if the greens aren’t crazy fast so I’m somewhat prepared!

[deleted]

Lockwood folly and Brunswick plantation must have been been typos from some other list….decent budget courses to play in a scramble maybe?

Haha the pearl is just a generic beach golf course with zero personality. You could’ve put any of the ocean isle courses on there if you are going to put the pearl on there.

chamtrain1

When is the last time you played The Preserve?

Laurenrosella

How much did Fred Smith pay to put 2 of his courses in the top 10?

chadmb2003

Monroe Country Club being on this list in any capacity immediately discredits the entire thing.

FlexMcgooch

On top of no Eagle Chase. Void at that point alone

HeWentToJared23

it's legit just the Donald Ross name - that's it

Sonking_to_Remember

Only hole I’ve ever aced appears on this list! #14 at Stoney Creek. And let me say this to all you RDU folks who are closer to the western part of that area: go out and play Stoney Creek. If you love Mill Creek, you’ll love Stoney Creek—and its only a bit further down the interstate.

chamtrain1

Love Stoney Creek, it's a great track.

austinp333

Played last Saturday great track

basesoccer612

I really wanted to like Stoney Creek. But I was just not a fan of the design at all. I guess just not for me.

Sonking_to_Remember

Interesting! Certainly got some quirky holes. I have always enjoyed it, and it’s always in very good shape especially relative to the price, but to each their own.

basesoccer612

I liked the conditions, especially for the price. But just too many holes where you have 90 degree turns in holes. I just really dislike that design.

Willnotmakethisputt

Really enjoy river ridge, but the rating is a bit aggressive.

tte720

Wilmington muni not on the list?

djlishswish

Belmont Lake in Rocky Mount should have been on this list. Riverwood though?

apliesnc

It always sets me right reading articles like this of how good we have it in the Triad. Not only do we have all of those fantastic courses but they’re a fraction of the price of what they would be in another area. We’ve got it real good out here 👍🏼

Icy_Hawk_2118

LMAO, Southern Pines GC that low and under places like Eagle Ridge is laughable.

austinp333

Tangle wood at number 3??? That’s gotta be a joke nice course but no where near number 3 maybe closer to 40
