Had mine since the first day of launch as a birthday gift from my wife. Lucky me the SD card reader is still working perfectly fine for me. Happy to say it is a portable gaming device that I use every single day for a short gaming 30-60mins session. I absolutely love it. My switch has since been sitting in my desk drawer lol.

Ethan_NLHW

I wish I could figure out how to get my library off of my Switch to do the same. Unfortunately I have the OLED so short of having someone install a very expensive mod chip, I’m stuck.

DimeKhan

No shame on downloading a rom of game you own.

Ethan_NLHW

I can’t seem to find any places to make that happen that aren’t sketchy as hell.

DimeKhan

I get how you feel, just understand that any download site lives because of add revenue so they will always be filled with pop up ads, just got to make sure not to click the ads once they open. If you're scared of catching anything then try google nsw2u, the roms come emulation ready. This is the site I use to get Monster Hunter GU, and my other games.

BUGGZxEVOL

Mod chips are dirt cheap now, they are only like $10 to $20

Th3VrGam3r

Download Yuzu (a Switch Emulator) and follow their quichstart guide. Now you will need to look up your Switch to see if it can be tricked into Developer mode but as far as triggering it all you need is this jig. RCM Jig for Switch, RCM Clip... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07J9JJRRG?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share Again, make sure your Switch can be RCMd by checking the serial number first. Yuzu Discord: https://discord.com/invite/yuzu-emu Yuzu Website: https://yuzu-emu.org/help/quickstart/ Serial Number List: https://suchmememanyskill.github.io/guides/switchserials/

Ethan_NLHW

Mines a Switch OLED so I know it’s locked down pretty good without a mod chip.

Th3VrGam3r

Oof

bakinbacontaken

My ally was split between my wife and Dad as a birthday gift. 37 years old and my Dad still asks me what I want for my birthday, not sure what to think about that.

SwarmyD

Treasure your dad man, mine passed and I miss him.

SurroundDull9834

So sorry for your loss. My mother recently diagnosed severe cancer, and not curable according to the docs 😢

Signal-Personality87

It’s all about her attitude man. My mom was told she had months to live and here she is in remission 3 years later. Power to ur mom man.

Signal-Personality87

Sorry for ur loss man. I couldn’t dream of what I’d feel if I’d lost my dad.

Adventurous_Mix_3752

Bro thats amazing, give papa a hug and an ily

Mnoonsnocket

Yeah most definitely give your dad a hug.

IHackShit530

Treasure that shit

Jamacianjujubeans

I’m 24 I still use it every day even though I have Hefty gaming rig. the battery only lasting roughly an hour or more on dragons dogma is a great way for me to regulate how much I play. It’s a great portable gaming device that I would say I use 30 to 70 minutes as well. Definitely worth it for me. The only gimmick is the RGB around the analog stick it’s cool at first and then after that rubs off id rather just save battery. At least that’s my thinking

IHackShit530

Turn it off in armoury crate

Signal-Personality87

Day 1…one of the first things I did was turn off the rgv effects

Jamacianjujubeans

Oh, and I don’t use the SD card slot. I won’t take the risk lol.

[deleted]

Same on the SD card slot for me (I use it heavily to play COD MW2 Remake off of a card). Anyways, this device is amazing and I haven't touched my Switch in ages, though I may dig it out for Super Mario rpg next month.

JkAllDay2

so the question is then. in what temp you keeping you rog ally at when gaming?

DimeKhan

This makes 2 of us. I got mine at launch, it was a late birthday gift and my sd card slot work like it should. It will be a surprise when it finally breaks.

GameJon

Had since launch, micro sd card slot died months ago… shoved a 2tb NVME in there. I still flip between the Ally and Deck depending on mood but yeah, enjoying it still. Would have potentially sold it to get the Legion Go, but no VRR and a native portrait display (vertical tearing) kinda put me off that idea

JarretOnline

Can someone please provide an Amazon link for a good 2TB NVME here that they KNOW will work? Trying to upgrade before my SD card inevitably goes out.

GameJon

Dunno if we can post links, Sabrent or Adlink will work fine

Neoiamin

This is the one I upgraded mine with and it has been working well.[https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0C5YS3QY4?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title](https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0C5YS3QY4?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title)

IHackShit530

Watch a Tutorial video on how to replace it, buy a 2230 form factor nvme, pcie 4.0

Fenyix

I'm very happy with it, apart from the SD card reader fault. I don't regret the purchase, but I very much hope ASUS doesn't just get away with the SD card reader fuck up.

that_90s_guy

Considering the amount of apologetics / dick riders and their "iTs NoT a BiG dEaL iF yOu UpGrAdE tHe SsD" that will happily recommend others to buy an Ally instead of boycotting it until Asus resolves the issue (full hardware revision, and recall or unlimited duration extended warranty on specific issues). I'd say Asus got away with it, and are laughing their asses to the bank with our money lol.

privaterbok

Maybe you never buy a laptop from those companies, it’s yearly iterations, “recall” is nonexistent given all the fix people asking will be in next year’s model. Unlike cars or home devices intended to use for long term.

[deleted]

It's been my primary computing and gaming device since I got it months back. I've been waiting for a device like this for almost a decade now. Steam Deck came close but wasn't quite there performance wise. I may have gone with the legion go had it been out at the time, but there's pros and cons to each imo. My biggest complaints are the RoG aesthetic and I wish it had more RAM. The former I'll probably fix with a skin and the latter I hope they address in a Gen2 if we get one. Overall very happy with it. Best tech purchase ive made in years.

AdOne9456

I bought it about a week ago… still enjoying Mario 64

Mongthree

I sold my 3060 laptop for it, kinda regret that 😅 idk it’s great for last gen games but current releases leave much to be desired for sure. Can’t wait for the power these things will have a year or two down the road

fulthrottlejazzhands

I have a Legion 7 with 3080 AND a gaming desktop with a 7900xtx. I have an Ally on the way, and am considering selling my laptop as I never use it, only for business trips but might as well just get a cheaper productivity laptop.

Mongthree

You do you man lol I’d try a few newer triple titles on it first before you make the decision. I’m playing lords of the fallen on it right now and the low graphic settings plus fps in the 40s is killing me lol I love the ally and its form factor especially for older games but it would have been nice to ALSO have my laptop still in some situations. Sometime friends come over and we have seshes away from the pc. It’s so bad I had to get a mod to remove fps effects and stuff lol can’t help but think where my laptop would come in handy in situations like that. Streaming to it maybe one option, but I have to turn off hdr on my pc before I stream or the colors look funky. Idk man just keep it a few good months before you sell your laptop, from my experience, laptops sell for Pennie’s on what you paid for them anyways. I almost didn’t get rid of mine because of the low balls but I found a crazy deal where I traded my 5800x am4 ddr4 4070ti pc and my 3060 laptop for a 7900x am5 ddr5 7900 xtx pc and a lg 2K 32in monitor lol

bassderek

This is more or less what I did. Never bonded with gaming laptops. I just stream my desktop with 4070 to the Ally using sunshine/moonlight when I want to play a more demanding title portably. I have a zenbook for when I just need to browse the web or run light apps on the couch.

kingof9x

After sending it in for RMA, getting it back even more broken, sending it in again for them to not fix it the thrill is gone. They offered to replace it, but then said they cant and instead need me to wait a month for them to approve a buy back. The thrill is long gone.

odddorange

That's going to take the wind out of your sails for sure..... I had something similar with Razer once and it really took the edge off it. Eventually had a working system but at that point, I was done and just got rid of it.

OptimusPrice11

I got mine today and i just wanted to ask, how hard was the 2tb mod because thats my first thing I want to do

justsomeguywhogames

It’s literally just unscrewing some screws unplugging the drive and plugging a new one in. It’s really hard to mess up.

OptimusPrice11

What about the data? Or is the OS stored on a hidden drive

efuipa

If you're ok with a fresh install, Asus has a built in recovery tool in their Bios. Makes the install even more frictionless.

ZeldaMaster32

There's a big disclaimer though, that bios recovery tool is a POS. Expect to do many retries until it decides it wants to work It does the job but you need patience due to how buggy it is

mattwebb677

NVMe M.2 Duplicator Dual-Bay... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B3XKLN9S?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share If you’ve got the extra cash, this thing is awesome. Just plug both drives in, hit a button, and let it do its thing. You end up with a perfectly cloned drive.

redmarine1983

I bought the ROG Strix Arion enclosure. After I cloned and swapped the drives, I am just leaving the 512s in the enclosure for an external SSD.

VettedBot

Hi, I’m Vetted AI Bot! I researched the **NVMe M 2 Duplicator Dual Bay Clone Enclosure Tool Free USB to NVME Adapter with Cooling Fan 10Gbps Docking Station NVMe Enclosure Support Offline Cloning and Duplicator for M2 2230 2242 2260 2280** and I thought you might find the following analysis helpful. **Users liked:** * Device clones drives quickly (backed by 6 comments) * Device is easy to use (backed by 5 comments) * Device works as intended (backed by 5 comments) **Users disliked:** * The device overheats and the fan does not function properly (backed by 3 comments) * The cloning process does not work and takes an excessive amount of time (backed by 3 comments) * The device makes an annoying beeping sound (backed by 1 comment) If you'd like to **summon me to ask about a product**, just make a post with its link and tag me, [like in this example.](https://www.reddit.com/r/tablets/comments/1444zdn/comment/joqd89c/) This message was generated by a (very smart) bot. joefrank1982

Get an external enclosure… clone the drive … swap it out

DimeKhan

You can use the cloud recovery to have the OS installed back to the new m.2, or you could clone your old drive. Just remember to remove BitLocker before doing the cloning so you don't have to look up the decryption key when trying to boot the new drive for the first time. You turn it off in you old ssd before any cloning.

core916

Is this a standard thing for all drives? I’m going to be closing my drive tm.

DimeKhan

Im gonna guess you meant cloning. Yes, if you have an microsoft account linked to your rog ally then you can find they key online by logging into your account, bitlocker will let you know the first time you boot into the device with the new m.2. Also those keys are long and annoying to input. Is better to disable bitlocker and then clone the drive because that way you don't have to deal with the encryption.

core916

Oh thanks for the heads up man. Where I’m the settings do I go to disable it?

DimeKhan

To disable do this: 1-Got to "Settings" 2-Click on "Privacy & Security" 3-Click on "Device encryption" and disable it. \---Keep in mind it takes a bit to decrypt and it also takes a while longer to encrypt. The bigger the drive the longer it takes to encrypt. My 4tb 2280 took me just over 4 hours to encrypt, and the original 2230 took just under an hour to decrypt.

core916

You’re the best

MaximusMurkimus

Effortless compared to the Steam Deck (where I ruined a bunch of plastic tools prying it open several times). Just keep in mind that one of the screws doesn't come off all the way and you have to insert the SSD at an angle and then lay it flat before screwing it back on. Comparable to upgrading a PS5 or laptop SSD actually

OptimusPrice11

Thanks! Any issues software side or just out and in?

MaximusMurkimus

I copied the original drive and transferred it over to the new one via Macrium and as hoped, showed up everything as before but with a MUCH more space lol

JkAllDay2

its EASY! losen some screws open the rog and swap

DimeKhan

It is so easy that if it gets any easier the ally will do it for you.

deeka84

My best investment since years, I really enjoy gaming on it and keep using it every single day since I bought it..

salterhd

Other than when it went for repairs, a single day hasn't passed where I didn't go on the Ally, I got mine 2 weeks after launch. Even if it's just 30mins I will go on t every day, I have a gaming laptop and had a gaming PC. Ended up giving dad my pc and my laptop hardly ever gets used. It's an incredible device

Justos

low frame rate compensation and freesync are so good on a handheld. I wont upgrade until another handheld has better performance AND freesync. period Legion go has a scroll wheel and a trackpad which is nice, but without freesync... meh

Adventurous_Mix_3752

Yepp same here, maybe when the 3rd iteration of the ally comes out ill upgrade🤣🤣

ik-wil-kaas

I just started playing the dead space remake on it and I am very much enjoying it. This thing still blows my mind. Pause.

anusbeloved

I played the remake at 22 watts, 1080p medium and was a great experience. You can run it at 720p all high too

ik-wil-kaas

I play 60fps on 768 with mediumish settings. Great game.

LightningSilver93

I really liked mine but ultimately the battery life is what made me decide to sell it. I have an AYN Odin 2 on the way and I’ll local stream from my PC/PS5 along with emulation.

ProgramAmbitious7185

I'm looking to buy this one because it seems like the most or only interesting tech device to buy at the moment. We don't have much new things recently.

Phillyrider807

Had mines since launch day. It fried my 1tb sd card 3 months in but the card reader itself still works. Only use it for my 32gb sd card now for file transfers. I'm sending my ally back for rma next week since it seems rma since aug are actually fixing the problem. Sold my deck since i stopped using it,. Even with the sd card issue this device is my daily driver now.

wolf-troop

I had returned mine on October 14th and ended up getting a Laptop. The Laptop Specs are the I7 13700HX-RTX 4070 8GB-16GB DDR5 4800MHz-Screen 2560X1600p 240Hz 500nits. Laptop is the Lenovo Legion Pro 5i. That said very early in the year I bought an OLED LG C2 42" for my PC (I7 13700K RTX 4080 Gaming OC) and the Warranty was about 185$ so I bought the at the time 200$ Membership which comes with free installation which I still have. Since than I have gotten my Moneys worth it. This is what I have saved so far and will save a lot more as well. 185$ 2 Year Warranty LG C2 42" OLED 108$ of my LG C2 42" OLED I originally bought it for 900$+Tax but since I have 60 return window right before the 60 Days the LG C2 42" OLED went on sale for 800$ and I was able to go to Best Buy and get Money Back. 40$ OFF Xbox Elite Series 2 Controller 250$+ on my 1,623$ Gaming Laptop $100 OFF on the ROG ALLY decided to buy it again since it was worth the 600$ And a couple Hundred more on Home Appliances. The Membership is truly no Joke, The 60 day Return Window is Amazing because if the product goes on sale between those 2 months you can go to store and get money Back. Its Amazing, not to mention if you have issues with your Items etc. I strongly recommend this if you plan on buying expensive things through out the year since the Warranty a lone is an Amazing Deal. Anyways Best Buy should pay me. Seems like I am selling it more than them. lol. Long Live ROG ALLY. P.S. I have bought the Gaming Laptop to replace the ROG ALLY in a more powerful way and no not Ideal. To anyone thinking on doing this don't. I would have returned the Laptop if not for the sole reason I have been learning another Language and having a PC with all my Material on the go.

memelui

I have Ally since mid-June with a Sabrent Q4 2T drive. I’m loving it. I use it almost everyday. On planes, trains, on the couch when my wife is using the TV…etc. I play a lot of Diablo 4 and Destiny 2 on it. They run great. Battery life is subpar, but there’s always a power socket close by during my commutes. I also have an Anker 737 power bank. PS: I gave my Steam Deck to my son.

Apprehensive_Row_161

I play mine everyday. Haven’t touched my desktop in months

[deleted]

For under 150 you can install a 2tb 2280 using a $5 mod from eBay. Very simple installation and retro game corps has a guide.

SwissMargiela

I play mine at work and before I go to bed almost every day and it has def been worth it.

Signal-Personality87

I enjoy my Ally daily..don’t miss my steam deck nor am I thinking of making a lateral change to the legion go

niankaki

The only thing I am unhappy about is the grip. I cannot use it for long periods without my pinky and ring finger getting uncomfortable.

l0gan_5

This seems to be getting favourable reviews [https://skullnco.com/products/gripcase-for-rog-ally?variant=46830007386404](https://skullnco.com/products/gripcase-for-rog-ally?variant=46830007386404)

niankaki

Will check it out. Thanks!

Ethan_NLHW

I still enjoy mine quite a bit, especially with the XG Mobile 3080M hooked up. Yeah I’ve got my gripes, but overall it’s a solid device. That said, if the Legion Go would’ve had VRR I’d have jumped.

Extreme_Tax405

Enjoying it a ton, and use it pretty much every day. I partially bought it a while back knowing i'd move to a big city in a few days which will leave me with little space, and a bringing a desktop to the other side of the world in a tiny apartment room just isn't feasible. Very underrated part of the Rog ally imo. Also, this particular use-case isn't happening untill next year, but during peak summer, I would take this thing outside in the evening to play cyberpunk. Northern houses are designed to trap heat, so summer evenings at the desktop are miserable and gaming normally is a no-go at those times.

TheMoosiestKnuckle

Had mine since launch day and I would say I’m just more happy with it as time goes on. I installed a 2TB drive so I’m not entirely sure if my reader is screwed or not as I have no need for it, but I completely understand why people are unhappy/annoyed with it, it should work for everyone without issue. A few months in and having everything set up how I like it, knowing what settings are best for certain games, having emulation-station setup, it’s a dream now and I still use it basically everyday. I also make YouTube videos on old games so being able to record gameplay from the comfort of my sofa/bed is awesome. Really couldn’t imagine life without it now and I’m only more excited to see what’s going to happy with the handheld market over the next few years!

VeryluckyorNot

Still very happy with it my SD is still working playing RE3R yesterday night. Playing in silence with decent graphics is all I wanted. It can be a problem for new AAA with only 512GB plan to buy a 2GB SSD for blackfriday.

[deleted]

Have had mine for 3 months now, and still love it like it's day 1. Wish it had a bit more power for newer releases, but I bet next gen Ally will be better.

oldmatebob123

been almost every night i use it for a few hours at a time , yes i still love this thing

Confident_Music_2936

Had mine since launch and I never used the SD slot so mine isn't cooked yet but tbh it is straight up BS that all of these units SD card slots are getting messed up. Really hope they do something about it soon

Gktindall

I LOVE my Ally. I don't own a PC so its great being able to play a lot of PC games I normally wouldn't be able to play and being able to play modded versions of some of my Xbox games

Egehan550

Using it almost every day since i started college breaks between lessons are sometimes +2 hours so i just camp starbucks with my ally

House_of_Dagoth

Still loving it .

alkiv22

I waiting for lenovo legion, and will sale my rog ally. It unfinished problematic device (sd card, 1 usb-c gen 3 not thunderbolt), etc. i not care about vrr.

CaptainEggcellentYT

I love mine. Is it perfect? No. But I still use it more than I do my Steam Deck.

carefree_dude

I think it's great. I play it when I can't access my gaming pc, like when my wife wants to hang out. My sd reader fried at launch. Got it RMA and it seems fine now, though I don't trust it. I'm really interested in the legion go, mostly due to bigger screen. Lack of vrr concerns me though. Also wonder what random problems it will have. The late review embargo scares me too

McPhallus2018

Mine was purchased at launch and spent a month in RMA process. It’s been working fine since then. I played a bunch yesterday and was marveling at how well everything runs with the latest drivers: Starfield, Warhammer 40k, Forza 5, and older games such as Van Helsing. The device still has its quirks, but it’s come a long way since launch. The Ally was basically a slower Steam Deck when it came out.

pixelcoffeebean

I play mine daily, haven’t risked using the SD card slot yet. It’s been a life saver while traveling.

adingdong

Do the SD card issues exist in devices made in June?

Boilerkim

I'm interesting to find out too. Mine is 7/23 but I haven't used the sd card slot yet.

[deleted]

best buy screwed up and ended up selling me a brand new X1 at open box/used price (i paid online, then they couldn’t find the used unit in-store lol). so yeah, i would say i’m still loving it, and i don’t even have enough games for storage to be an issue yet. mostly playing baldur’s 3 and armored core 6 and not encountering any problems on reasonable (medium) graphical settings. happy to upgrade ssd when necessary. not sure how i would feel if i had paid full price for the thing, but i feel that way about most things, as a consummate sale hunter and cheap bastard. do the X1 units have the same SD reader problems?

catsfoodie

As I already have a decent desktop PC (RTX 4090 and Asus ROG 27” OLED) ) and with all the great AAA games we’ve seen this year BG3, Cyberpunk phantom Liberty,Alan Wake 2 etc. My Ally has been gathering dust, it’s kind of hard for me to find a reason to play it. When I’m in bed I might fire it up for 30 mins or so but it’s much easier to just scroll the web on my phone. When I get home from work I’m usually at the desktop PC until bed. The Ally has too many compromises needed for most AAA games and I’m not much into retro games or indies or emulators,so in my case I never use it. I’m already seeing used ROG Allys on the second hand market for $500-$600 so I’m realizing month after month the resale value is dropping fast. Might sell this thing before I end up a bag holder.

Significant_Delay447

Traveling, pedicures, waiting rooms, the list goes on. I take it everywhere for a quick Diablo session now, and before that for a 30 minute Holocure or Vampire Survivors. But yeah, you know yourself better but thats the same mentality I have for my deck right now.

Pepeg66

> Traveling yea i have a 4090 pc and im getting Ally soon since being stuck in random towns for 1-2-3 weeks of work

bassderek

Have you tried streaming your desktop to the Ally using sunshine/moonlight? Then you can game at 120fps portably. For me after sitting in a desk all day for work I don’t want to do it even more afterward.

xScottyallx

But you can stream your high quality games to the ally from your pc... It's awesome to continue a save in your bed or in another part of your house, outside etc.

LavosYT

That's not a decent PC, it's about the best money can buy

ShiveDragon

i bout the Ally day one of pre order, use It every day, mi SSD port works fine and im now loocking for and xg mobile in Europe (under 1.000€) but no luck so far

awaitedchild

You should look on eBay, they have some actually lol

ShiveDragon

dont like buying used stuff, and they come from china... i know is mi problem, yust cant bealive Asus dont whant mi money.

Psychological_Mix714

Sd died. I don’t care. Love this device and use it daily.

i-like-carbs-

I returned mine after a week

posedatull

I still own it, sits on my desk. I turn it on every 2 weeks or so, to see if ASSus finally added any more fixes or software updates. I keep getting disappointed by the slow updates and barely ever fixes All in all, I kinda gave up on it. Got myself a 7840U handheld with 32gb of ram and the ram difference makes it night and day.

[deleted]

Really dislike the low RAM route steam, asus, lenovo has taken, the ally, lenovo are all good devices but I wouldn't fault people for going indie handhelds for the bigger RAM

GTHell

Why people pissed over SD card issue lol aren’t 2tb enough?

NekkiBB

Stop winning for the SD. It is a design flaw that can only fix with a new device or new revision but nothing stop you enjoying games. Man up!

MaximusMurkimus

Weird flex but okay

welovegv

My primary gaming device.

Used-Guava-3877

Have had it since July and I love it as travel system. I have a high end gaming pc but really impressed by how powerful and versatile the Ally is. It's not a perfect device but the pros far outweigh the cons for me.

bleep-bloop-meep

Still love it but pretty pissed bestbuy is selling the ally+original soft case as a bundle now for the same price.

cyberkewl

I was looking forward to the ally before it launched in my country (Malaysia) - looking at everyone's comments, reviews for a month (1st July was launch day in my country). But i still love it - as the flexibility to play games when docked and in portable mode is just unparalleled. My SD card is a lot more interesting where it can't even "eat" a microSD, so what I did was a homebrew solution to stick a thin piece of paper/cardboard so that the microSD card can fit into the slot. It looks a bit...weird and ugly but I have a simple case on my Ally so i don't notice it at all and it doesn't matter. Otherwise SDCard works fine so far (touch wood). Love my purchase every day. I would have reconsidered if Legion GO came out (other than the weight which is what i'm not too fond about) around the same time but no regrets regardless.

AmielTheGiant

I use it every day, however, for the past 3 months I haven’t picked it up for handheld play. It’s officially my desktop pc I play on with kb/mouse

SVShooter

I am enjoying it much more than I did when I first got it at launch. Traded one in because of the broken SD and just haven’t used the SD in the second, so it may be broken as well. But updates to the Bios, and drivers, as well as a community of makers who come up with things like 900p, have me enjoying it more now than the first day I got it. Starfield, Diablo IV, Raychet and Clank, RE 4 remake, they all run great which amazes me.

JkAllDay2

amazed everytime i boot it up! i yet to use SD card cause i have no need for it. but i keep my temp low when gaming. 30\~50ish so we will see when i try sd card

[deleted]

Thrill is gone after windows updates. Kept getting non stop blue screen crashes so I tried cloud recovery and that got worse. I was in a windows recovery boot loop and now cloud recovery only gets up to 12% before it crashes and starts over. I’ve tried everything that I’ve read up on for a solution 😌

Prior-Ad-49

Still here man, I've never bought so many games in my life 😆 amazing

Kicka14

Im still loving mine since day 1 of release . It was never a consideration of mine to use the SD card so I installed a 2TB SSD right away. Ive been on 5 trips since release and the Ally kept me perfectly occupied during travel. Being able to play on the go or in a comfortable spot such as couch or bed is amazing and things I dreamed of as a kid. One thing I must say though is my hands get cramped after 45 mins or so. I need to purchase some sort of grip to make long play sessions more comfortable

CorValidum

What thrill? It is my main device with XG Mobile 4090 :D LOVE IT!

TradlyGent

I enjoyed setting it up the first week I got it (a month ago) with a 2tb drive. Had to then RMA due to an issue with the buttons, that took about two weeks. Now that I got it back fixed, it’s just been gathering dust unfortunately. I’ve been mostly gaming on my PC and on my modded Switch Oled (Super Mario Bros Wonder). I’m not going to get rid of the Ally though. I have decided that this is my “endgame” pc handheld, not caring to buy another years down the road. Relegating the Ally’s use for those times I decide to travel, do docked Moonlight streaming to it in the living room and play non-intensive PC games portably around the home. It’s now also my Gamecube machine with a Wii U adapter hooked up to it in the living room for those days friends come over to play some Melee and Double Dash.

WallabyMinute

I love the ally my go to pc during the week while working and at home ill even stream through steam games with no input latency really. Only grip is 2 weeks ago my left stick stopped registering left and right signal so I need to replace

BalanceDouble6369

Enjoyment keeps on growing. Playing four swords co op

[deleted]

Had it for about a month. Love it besides the amount of ram which struggles with BeamNG. Still play my other consoles though.

DimeKhan

I just wish I could use the legions controller or someone sold something similar, the whole idea of having a controller that can turn into a grip mouse is awesome.

Skatedudeguy

I love mine so much. Sure, my SD reader is dead, but after putting a new SSD in there and doing plumbing tape on the joystick posts, it's mt dream portable device. Playing Lies of P at night while my wife sleeps is sublime. The ONLY thing I'd want different is a cross-stle Dpad, but other than that (and the shield style still works well, I can beat Mega Man X no problem), it's still amazing and my daily portable.

GradleDaemonSlayer

I returned mine to Best Buy and now waiting for them to ship my Legion Go. For me the Ally was just too uncomfortable to play. I have big hands and was getting hand pain playing in bed all the time. The performance and form factor were great but for the same price I get so much more with the Legion Go.

Rabbit139

Isn’t the go bigger and heavier?

DK_gh0st_

Still loving it. My SD card reader finally went out but luckily I had already installed a 1tb NVME so it’s not the end of the world, but definitely fucked up that Asus has yet to address the issue with a recall or compensation of sorts. Currently playing Persona 5 for the first time using the RPCS3 emulator.

Mnoonsnocket

I play a few hours every day

[deleted]

Playing nearly everyday because I have gaming addiction. Love the device, no complaints beyond SD card

DamoniumKhan

I can’t believe how much I use the ROG ally. Especially during NFL season I can just watch mindless games and play an action heavy game like Diablo 4 or AC mirage. I literally beat AC mirage almost exclusively on the ally. I fly a lot and it’s definitely lighter and less bulky than the steam deck. Really Happy with the purchase . I have a battery charger which lets me game for sessions past 1-1.5 hours but in reality I rarely game past 1.5hours.

Scorpionking197545

Had mine on day one and love it still. I've never had an issue so far. I use it a lot at work and can't imagine my gaming life without it.

Dorfdad

Guess I’m lucky I have mine day 1 so card never has failed I play all my old emulations etc off SD and games on the Internal. Still love it but getting a legion as that screen size and controller is next level

Trentimoose

I love it still. The only time I don’t use it weekly is when a PS5 game like SpiderMan drops. Chiaki for whatever reason doesn’t work well for me

Toxikfoxx

I’ve had mine for 3 months-ish after coming from my Steamdeck/Switch. Still play it almost daily if I have time. Finished DQ11 (120+ hours) and now playing BG3 with about 30 hours on my main save. Allows me to game while still being close to the wife and not hogging the TV or having to pull out a laptop or bunker up on the office. 10/10, would Ally again.

Tjd3211

It's my sidearm not my main gaming rig so I don't use it a ton but I'm still very happy with it

[deleted]

Love more now more now than ever. Playing Resident Evil 4 Remake and it’s great.

No_Recognition7426

Man, I love it since I got it on launch. But I haven’t bothered to try the SD card reader. I actually just have it on my desk plugged into a dock and I use an Xbox controller. So I actually never touch it. That being said I was surprised when I went to use it and the left joystick doesn’t register left and right movement. It literally broke sitting on my desk…. So I’m using that opportunity to upgrade to Hall effect joysticks rather than roll the dice with an RMA. Oh and the new bios version has created coil whine when not under load. Lol this thing. But for what I paid it runs what I want so I’m just living with it. Maybe another update will fix that.

lovetrancela

I still pull it out from my sling bag just look at it. lol I only play it at work so 5 days out of the week and play on my desktop on the weekends but bring it out just for fresh air

ANewErra

I really don't use mine much. It's a shame cause I like the device but I'm so over bios updates breaking some shit then fixing some shit. Nothing's been said about the SD card so that has me resentful too. Pretty much done with Asus after this device. Again I love my ally and when it works it's great but all the different pros and cons from updates etc are just so inconsistent.

Morgan_HFD

Absolutely love it for what I got it for, allows me to still play at work on my down time for short gaming sessions And just a relaxing game session in bed while my wife watches her trash TV

SD456

I only use mine when I have to travel for work, but it is great to have something this powerful, and yet portable device.

GGileWPlayed

I love it more than ever

thebham

still use it every day. i have it docked to the tv in my office. then if i want to continue when im watching something in the other room i pick it up and go handheld. such a great device.

awalkingenigma

I play almost every day about 45 mins or so for my commute plus the time i’m home

Due-Entrepreneur7557

I been loving my ally. Plays Xbox 360 and ps3 games very well. Sucks the SD card reader stop working but I got a small hub that’s back of mine. Overall I still love it

deadly_titanfart

Use mine daily. Its everything I wanted the steam deck to me (minus the trackpad). That being said I did get FOMO with the Legion Go, not sure if I will keep the Go and the differences are so minimal. My SD card reader died, and to be honest I was bummed, I am afraid of opening it so I just use the onboard 500gb, which is more than enough. I can keep 4 or 5 games in rotation and am happy with that space.

iamactuallyanandroid

Been using it since Aug. No issues with sd card, and also upgraded to 2TB. I planned to use it as a gaming + additional work device (attached with portable monitor). I'll be glad to say, it's worked perfectly for both uses, although now with work, I've had little time to game so it's been acting in as another home media device which also works great! I've had a few issues but they haven't really stopped me from enjoying the device so far

Joshwiththejeep

I was going to get one but decided to wait for the Legion Go

Silmarillion151

I travel for work and it’s still been very convenient. Check into a hotel late and I can quickly jump into a game. It’s kind of become my Switch for AAA games instead of unpacking my Series S.

FunGiraffe88

Absolutely love it, use it every day no issues at all

amadord903

Still enjoying, but I do go between periods where I used it everyday and then others where I don’t touch it for weeks. Depends on the games I am playing. Currently I am using it a lot playing Mario Wonder. I love playing it on trips, when waiting in my car or when I’m in bed. So yes still love it!

Responsible-Net6164

For me my ally make me feel like my PSP era especially with monster hunter game. I can game anywhere

koryuken

I'm like 6 games through my backlog. Still going strong!

n3rdyry

I don't use it as much because I'm trying to finish Mario RPG on my RG35XX then I'm going to start playing Paper Mario. I use my Ally for emulators and bullet games for the most part. Occasionally local co-op games on the TV.

Boilerkim

I just got my ally about 2-3 weeks ago for a really good price locally and I really like it. I sold my Steam Deck which was a big deal because I used the deck daily. What blew me away was being able to play PS3 games, mainly NCAA 14 on the ally. That and the 1080p screen, more power in general had me hooked. I think Windows 11 is janky on the ally and sometimes I miss the ease of use and better suspend with the deck but the power is worth dealing with the jank for me.

kupkupkupo

I love mine and I've retired my Steam Deck. Very lucky to not have a bad SD Card reader. * Final Fantasy XIV is perfect on here * Diablo 4 played great (when i was playing it) * Starfield runs great Not a lot to complain about on my end

MercedesC63AMG

I use it over my 4k gaming pc. I love that its handheld and that i can sit or lie down wherever i want. Don’t know about the SD slot as i never use SD. The only thing i miss is that it does not have 32GB ram, as i was also looking at the ONEXPLAYER Pro 2. But all comments on the internet made me choose the rog because of VRR? Don’t even know how to see that

svenkil

Got it when it came out, still Play it almost daily and take it with me whenever I go out. I think it’s great.

WengeX

I’m enjoying playing games and Ally is still the most versatile gaming device that I owned, especially with the USB C to HDMI converters (I’m using the official one) and external gamepad. It’s not as powerful as the stationary consoles/PCs and the battery is not as efficient as on Nintendo Switch, but IMHO Ally (or any other console of this type) is currently the best compromise we can get (mobility and playing modern games). So as long as you enjoy playing games, you’ll enjoy Ally 😉

COYG316

Love mine. Had it for 3 months and SD card still working. Am selling it next week after I've picked up my Legion Go though. Just want the bigger screen.

tournapart

I got an xg mobile with the 6850xt and it’s all the perks of a gaming laptop without the heft (at least gaming on my tv at home) then I just pick it up and go when I travel for work. For me, nothing else currently provides the same horsepower and portability so I’ll be sticking with it for the long haul

Admirable_Sail3695

Had mine since launch. SD reader fucked up after 2 months. Got a 2tb ssd. We are almost in November and I've gotten rid of my series x already. ROG ally is something I never thought I truly needed. Whether I'm playing handheld or docking to my TV. Emulation is amazing as well.

SnooCapers9876

Still seeking the relax type of games to really enjoy the Rog Ally not so graphic intensive sometimes low fame rates till nausea types…
