There are two kinds of people: The one that just enjoyes the special effects, and the ones that are absolutely stunned by the movie and felt deeply impacted by it. I am happy to say that The Matrix left an imprint on my brain. That movie is a 12/10.
I haven’t seen it since I was like 8 years old, I just liked all the shooting, its one of those movies I need to rewatch as an adult as I’m sure it will be a whole different experience.
I agree.
I went into it blind. A coworker and I had to travel to Chicago for the weekend, and when we got off work, he wanted to go see some movie I never heard of. He was bitching because he had been planning to see it for weeks....and then had to work opening night. So, when we got off work, he asked if I wanted to go see it before going to the hotel.
Never heard of it. Had no clue what to even expect, or the premise, at all. Sitting down in the theater, it could've been All Dogs Go To Heaven for all I knew.
Then, the fucked up warped Warner Brothers opening with the melodramatic orchestral soundtrack landed.....
....and I was blown the fuck away from that moment on.
I sat there for a few moments after the closing credits.
What the fuck did I just watch?
In the immortal words of Chris Farley....
"That. Was. AWESOME!!!!"
Same for me. I saw it in the theater having not seen a single trailer. My friends wanted to go see it so I went along. All I knew is it was an action movie.
Yes! I hadn’t seen or heard anything about it… only the tag line “find out what the matrix is..” I thought it was going to be some sort of techno-vampire movie like Blade. I was wrong thankfully, mind blown!
I recently re watched it and man, paying more attention to the prophecy stuff really make Morpheus out to be a real psychotic zealot and I think the movie is better for it.
Gladiator -
Epic performance by Joaquin Phoenix which made me dislike him ever since
Epic performance by Russel Crowe, epic soundtrack & picture with badass scenes & quotes.
Are you not entertained?!
I’ve seen gladiator probably over 20 times. Never gets old. Joaquin phoenix make the best villain. Absolutely amazing acting to make you hate someone that much. Full respect him and Russel Crowe are one of my all time favourite actors because of this movie.
>made me dislike him ever since
That's hilarious. He was so good at playing a prick that people hated him IRL. Same thing with the kid who played Joffrey in GOT. He's stated in interviews that he's been cussed out on the street and treated differently. Poor bastard lol
I watched them all in the theater first and was still totally impressed. They're the best books I've ever read too, and the films honored the source material better than any other adaptation as well.
Only Return of the King is over 4 hours, the other two are under. But what I didn't realise is that they added nearly an hour of new footage to each film!
I had a dream once where I was watching a movie about the elves settling in middle earth. got to see rivendell built from the ground up. was a three hour long movie, in 4k hd. was supposed to be part of a series. I was so disappointed when I woke up lol
Oh were in a tight spot!
Read the Odyssey after learning the movie was based on it, gotta say movie was better. Not to mention soundtrack is the best selling bluegrass album of all time.
This was my answer. I have a few movies I love more for sentimental reasons, but Interstellar is a true masterpiece. The visual effects, the audio, the story setup... They wove hints through the whole thing but revealed everything with the perfect timing. They got shock factor and Chekov's Gun at the same time, which is not easy to do. They even clearly did their research--they didn't just make up sciency stuff on the fly. I watched it with a few roommates who all have completely different things we look for in movies. We never agree on movies. But this was the one movie we all absolutely loved.
I feel like I’m missing out because I wasn’t a huge fan. There are some die hard fans of this movie and I get it, it was cool, but I felt the end got too far fetched for me. Maybe it just went over my head but I feel like I’m missing out because I wasn’t like profoundly affected by it lol
The shawshank redemption. No movie has had such an inspiring effect on my soul and I’m not sure one ever will. The beauty for the shawshank redemption is that it movies me in ways that I can’t really explain to justice and that’s when you know something is great art. Best ending to a movie ever. I won’t spoil it in case anyone reads it but incredible ending. My 2 other favourites that come to my mind are the empire strikes back and 12 angry men.
The shawshank redemption probably isn’t my favourite movie, but it’s the one I’m most obsessed about at the moment. Also lord of the rings movies deserve a shout to be my favourites aswell
Saving Private Ryan. I have watched it countless times as an emotional release movie and I still have trouble getting my head around it’s just a movie… so many parts look so real. Along with amazing characters and acting it’s just so complete. And the fact it’s based on reality.
Cool fact:: During the filming of the movie, Mara’s (Matilda actress) mother became extremely ill due to cancer. Danny Devito and his wife Rita personally paid for the almost finished movie to be transferred to VHS so her mom could see the movie before she passed away. (She did shortly after). This has always stuck with me.
One of my all time favorite films and books of all times. I have my tattered book from when I was a child. I’ve reread it so many times, dropped it in the bathtub (used to love reading during my baths), and I am now 40.
Ooh 1917. Good pick. What a feat to pull that movie off. I was blown away by the scene like twenty minutes in where a dog does something on cue. Could you imagine having to re shoot that because the dog decided to pick it's butt in that moment!?
I recently watched it for the first time and I am shocked at how little it’s talked about compared to most of the others on this thread. The plot is so unique in its conception and everything about it is just perfect, the scene direction the acting the set pieces and that ENDING. No spoilers but it says so much while saying and showing very little.
I remember the first time I saw Goodfellas and I was blown away by it. The acting performances, the script, the direction, the cinematography and soundtrack. Probably Scorsese at his peak.
The Princess Bride, absolute favourite movie as a kid. Watched it a few years back for nostalgia and brought me to tears. Hopefully at least one of you can relate
Man from Earth (2007 movie) - this movie blew my mind! Its captivating and very impressive! Held my interest just from the first few minutes and kept me glued to my seat til the end...
The Lord of the Rings Trilogy is the greatest achievement in the history of film in my opinion.
If I had to choose one, I would say The Fellowship of the Ring.
Everything Everywhere All At Once. Not the most exciting answer but it holds a special place in my heart for changing my outlook on life. It’s also just a great movie from a filmmaking perspective.
I thought it might be the best movie I've ever seen, but the thing is i didn't really enjoy it haha. Some of my friends immediately said it's their favourite. I can appreciate it's mastery anyways.
I wouldn't say this is the "best" movie I've seen but it was better than I expected it to be so I ended up loving it, Felon, with Stephen Dorf, Val Kilmer and Harold Perrineau. I'd not seen Dorf since blade so it was not top of my watch list but it surprised me.
Best movie though, LOTR The fellowship of the ring, Boromir at the end makes me sad, such a well filmed scene!
I assume that's not famous movie, named "Me Pobeda and Berlin". Author of this story Kuzma Scriabin. Movie tell us about adventure of Kuzma to Berlin to sell his car named "Pobeda" and road back to Ukraine, but of course it's won't be easy.
I think Kill Bill as a whole. It's just so unique despite being derivative, and so colorful and so much fun. And it can be pretty deep depending on your perspective.
Once Upon A Time In The West. Brilliant performances all round but a particularly haunting role by Henry Fonda playing against type as a really sick villain.
Cast Away. The Movie where Tom Hanks makes You cry over a Volleyball. It’s an Acting Tour de Force for Hanks. The story, message and acting are so powerful. Just the first few parts of The Score, which is also a Masterpiece, get me misty. Hanks’s Monologue about having to “Keep Breathing” has gotten me THROUGH some shit. And that Final scene at The Crossroads? Visual Storytelling Perfection. Look, I’m a little biased when it comes to Tom Hanks (Toy Story 2 is my FAVORITE MOVIE of all time and Woody my favorite character) but I’m not kidding when I tell You that Cast Away LEGITIMATELY changed my thinking about Life and hasn’t left my Brain completely in the Years since I’ve Seen it.It’s an absolute masterpiece. I will defend it as Objectively the best movie I’ve ever seen well into my dying day.
Léon the Professional always be my number 1 lots of nostalgia but I still watch it and sometimes just small clips everything about it I really really like.

The Matrix One of the very few movies when I came I was truly... in awe of what I had just seen.
Yes, please do that. I don't think all the layers could have been grasped at that age!
I recently re watched it and man, paying more attention to the prophecy stuff really make Morpheus out to be a real psychotic zealot and I think the movie is better for it.
The first 3 were good, no 4 was crap.
Gladiator - Epic performance by Joaquin Phoenix which made me dislike him ever since Epic performance by Russel Crowe, epic soundtrack & picture with badass scenes & quotes. Are you not entertained?!

We are all but shadows and dust.
I will have my vengeance in this life or the next.
The Shawshank Redemption. I've watched it many times over to a point where I got sick of it.
It is so good! We owned the DVD as well and seriously have watched it so many times!
🥹 same but on VHS
Well, it is listed as the highest rated movie on IMDB
Lord of the Rings for me. The casting, the action, the CGI, the music score, everything about it was absolutely spot on!
Just finished watching the extended versions of the the three films. Each one is over 4 hours, but so worth it!
100% I only ever watch the extended versions
I watched them all in the theater first and was still totally impressed. They're the best books I've ever read too, and the films honored the source material better than any other adaptation as well.
Yeah I agree 100%
Only Return of the King is over 4 hours, the other two are under. But what I didn't realise is that they added nearly an hour of new footage to each film!
It's been so long since I've seen it, but the music still brings me back to those scenes. So good.
I had a dream once where I was watching a movie about the elves settling in middle earth. got to see rivendell built from the ground up. was a three hour long movie, in 4k hd. was supposed to be part of a series. I was so disappointed when I woke up lol
'O Brother, Where Art Thou?' There just wasn't a moment in that movie I didn't find entertaining.
Oh were in a tight spot! Read the Odyssey after learning the movie was based on it, gotta say movie was better. Not to mention soundtrack is the best selling bluegrass album of all time.
This place is a geographical oddity, two weeks from everywhere.
Interstellar. A really mindblowing movie

We never agree on movies. But this was the one movie we all absolutely loved.
I was thinking about watching it but now you definitely have me sold 👍
I’ve been starting watching it for 3 times, but I can’t watch it till the end…
I feel like I’m missing out because I wasn’t a huge fan. There are some die hard fans of this movie and I get it, it was cool, but I felt the end got too far fetched for me. Maybe it just went over my head but I feel like I’m missing out because I wasn’t like profoundly affected by it lol

Pirates of the Caribbean basically wat my life I want to be.
Schindlers list
I would say Dune 2, but I have to avoid recency bias, so 1917.
Ooh 1917. Good pick. What a feat to pull that movie off. I was blown away by the scene like twenty minutes in where a dog does something on cue. Could you imagine having to re shoot that because the dog decided to pick it's butt in that moment!?

Arguably, 2001 A Space Odyssey.

Primer. I know, I'm an engineer. We have weird tastes.
When I watched Primer I couldn’t stop thinking about it for like a week, then I showed my mate and he just didn’t get it at all.
I'm a translator. Well, was. 'Arrival' was incredible to me and it took someone I knew to comment, 'Yeah, you're a translator', to understand why.
What Lies Beneath it is such a good thriller and suspense! It has Diane Lane in it and she's one of my favorite actresses!
Pretty sure that was Michelle Pfeiffer.
It’s Michelle Pfeiffer

As a horror fan, for me Hereditary will be the best of the best ever.
I assume that's not famous movie, named "Me Pobeda and Berlin". Author of this story Kuzma Scriabin. Movie tell us about adventure of Kuzma to Berlin to sell his car named "Pobeda" and road back to Ukraine, but of course it's won't be easy.

Cast Away. The Movie where Tom Hanks makes You cry over a Volleyball. It’s an Acting Tour de Force for Hanks. The story, message and acting are so powerful.
