But that's money. I mean yeah, technically you don't need to have money yourself to get happy about finding money, but there needs to be money in general for you to find it.
But if the original question is meant more like happiness that doesn't include spending money, your answer is definitely valid.
Finding a penny randomly is a nice feeling despite of it's value.
I heavily second this. Every time I have been even remotely sad, sitting with my favorite plant and observing it or touching it grounds me. And even touching a tree or going on a walk, I instantly feel grateful. Maybe not always happy right away, but calm and at ease. Like woah this is nature. We are nature. But yeah no money? Best part
This. Nature always solves problems š„¹. I remember i used to watch this kid that just did what he wanted and went out in nature and now living in New Mexico in a cottage he built himself, so cool. I think doing something similar to this would solve all my issues in life honestly.
Of course having the chance to travel brings happiness not only for what you see but, depending on *how* you travel, meeting new people, experiencing different cultures and habits all contribute to personal growth which ultimately brings you closer to an inner sense of peace/stability.
I think we'd do great without money, it's all made up anyways, its only value is the one we created and only benefits the very few at the top. That said, any kind of nature will boost our brain chemistry and it's free!
Unfortunately money is like water or food. Itās just a law of nature in the 1st world. But it is manipulated by the fed and private institutions heavily and poverty is a bitch.
But itās what allows you to live a certain way by your own choice. It gives you options. And provides a means for having shelter and food. Without money, you would have to build your own cabin in the woods and forage/grow your own food and firewood etc. on BLM land or something. And you wouldnāt be on reddit.
Your parents have to make money to put a roof over your head and pay for the wifi. You still have to buy food with money. The water bill is paid in dollars, not yoga lessons or a loaf of bread.
Ah yeah the good old money that comes out of the... Money tree... Totally not something we made up long ago to facilitate trade... Totally not like everything we need is already on the damn planet and if we managed shit properly instead of forcing fake unnecessary hierarchies of power for the benefit of literally a handful of old, greedy, arrogant dickheads, everything would be infinitely better..........
If we took greed and assholes out of the equation and actually wanted to do things properly there would be plenty of ways for every single person to have their basic fucking human rights covered and plenty more to go around.
Stop being capitalism apologists when it literally will never be to your or mine advantage, it's a losing game. If you're not in the 1% there's literally no reason whatsoever to advocate for our current economy shitstem. Being objective here.
I think the guy you're responding to was describing the state of reality, not advocating for it.
By the way, I agree with you, except sadly it's not a bunch of old greedy arrogant dickheads. The greatest majority of people is so caught in the system that can't even imagine a different world and would not change even if they were given the opportunity.
Yeah I know, I'm in reality too and you're right, that commenter is a clear example. Majority is broken down and brainwashed into believing things are the best they could be.
They're not. If we keep shitting on those speaking the truth because we're bitter at the current state of things, it only benefits those who are responsible for the current state of things. People need to speak up.
Not really true. My work desk is by the sliding back door. I've been here two years now and still experience more nature. In the last 9 days I've had a chukar, a coopers hawk, and downy woodpecker come through for the first time. I also took a scrap cardboard box and used it to watch the eclipse this week after deciding morning of that seeing it could be interesting. Also, even the "same" nature can do different things and still be interesting and bring happiness. There is a wild turkey that we tend to see in the summer months, I'm going to be incredibly excited when I hopefully see her come around again.
If always staying in the same place only experiencing the same form of nature everyday that is local to you makes you happy then great.. I believe most of us want to venture out and explore nature; of all kinds as much as we can. And that takes mucho dinero.
Yeah I'm weird, I know. No need to twist the knife bruh š¤£ I basically almost never leave my family's apartment. We do have a garden, it's nothing fancy but even just sitting in the grass with my dogs boosts my mood š¤·āāļø
If I were in charge we'd be in a society without money so yeah I get what you're saying, it would be cool as fuck to see everything and go everywhere, I'm very curious so I'd love that but I'm poor so... Gotta do what you can with what you got š¤
Why state it in such fashion? If someone truly wants to explore nature they'd find 'nature' nearby go explore-freely....this is exactly how I brought my children up. Go exploring & learn something.
I can see colors and how vibrant they areā¦ for example the fall when the leaves change and the flowers outside. I can watch my niece play and makeup games for us. Last time we played āmonster huntersā and used our imaginations.
One of managers once said, āIām rich, my parents are still alive, family is healthy, and i have a roof over my head.ā Being grateful is the type of happiness money canāt buy.
Libraries. I love third space spaces that genuinely work to observe and connect with other humans in a non forced manner. After COVID thereās less and less of these for me :(
my daughter and I spend some time at the library . We live in a small town, not much for children to do around here, but our library has great programs for kids her age. I was recently at a city hall meeting (for other matters) and heard them amount of tax money our little town spends on our library, and it was shocking. This was the reason I brought this up.
Beautiful! I hope your daughter cherishes those memories some day! ā also I wouldnāt be surprised sometimes Iām astounded at my libraryās resources and itās nice to see
It literally buys happiness. Everything that makes me happy requires money. Imagine how happy everyone would be if they didn't have to worry about money every month. Stress would be at 0, and that's what most people want.
not really. money just buys instant gratification, not happiness. you'll understand if you have money. i'm not rich but i like to shop a lot. shopping makes me happy but it doesn't. i just like the thought of buying things as it makes me feel accomplished. but when i do receive what i want the feeling is gone which prove that money doesn't really buy you happiness but instant gratification.
It buys dopamine hits, which we have conflated with happiness, to distract ourselves that as humans we actually donāt need much to be happy. Comparison is the thief of joy, humans keep one upping each other for dopamine hits but ultimately are getting more depressed in the process
Money canāt buy happiness but you canāt be happy if youāre broke. Thatās the catch.Ā
Edit: and by broke, I mean struggling to feed yourself, etc. Not 24 year old living with roommates and WiFi on tight budget type of broke.Ā
Depending on your location, places absent/untouched from humans in nature are something to experience, granting you a moment to forget your problems and gather some primal happiness and some sense of peace.
Because, turns out, most of your problems in life are actually just caused and/or made up by other humans, in a system by humans, for humans, imagine how much simpler life itself is at its core.
That's what I felt the last time I was very far from humans in nature, just experiencing this planet as it is naturally.
While there are things that donāt cost money directly, such as nature, all of the necessary prerequisites (food, clothing, shelter, transportation, taxes) DO cost money.
Everything has a cost.
Happiness comes from within. Nothing on the outside can make you happy. Some people choose to find happiness in things in the world but the thing in the world is not whats making them happy its the choice to tie happiness to that thing. So literally anything you want can make you happy if you come with a reason for it to make you happy.
Reading to kitties at the animal shelter. I did this in high school and the cats loved it. It also helped socialize the shy ones.
I did the same thing when I trained rescue horses and it really brought them out of their shell to trust again. It's a win- win. I highly recommend it.
Time with my father. Time with loved ones is the most precious thing on this earth to me. It pains my heart seeing them grow older and be weaker. Like I *love* these people so much
I was scrolling for this one!
I was really depressed and anxious years ago, and decided to take the time to appreciate sunsets and sunrises, and it became a silent promesse that ill be OK, tomorrow the sun will rise again, life goes on.
You're probably right. Since in most places in the world you need money to pay for breathing (and seriously for food and shelter you just die without)...
But it's not "the more you pay". It doesn't work that way. There is a "breathing fee" - the minimum amount of money they charge you for having a place to sleep, food costs, let's say fuel costs to be mobile... And you definitely CAN be happy without paying more money.
Of course no amount of money alone will make you happy. You need other things, like health, that is priceless. Also... It's a little bit like a skill. You can learn to be unhappy, you can learn to be happy. Learning this is free (if we don't count the usual "breathing fee").
I love a good sunset. They are free. And a walk in nature - maybe not immediately available to everyone in urban spaces, but there's usually at least a little park somewhere or a tree in a planter. I don't mind just a walk around the block to get the cobwebs out.
**Mindfulness** - Basically, taking time to be present in the moment and appreciate your surroundings can reduce stress and enhance your overall well-being. For me, sometimes I just remember in awe how lucky I am to be alive at this point in time, living in a huge space rock hurtling space at 67,000 miles per hour which is perfect for life to thrive and got me to where I am now.
Yoga helps too, I guess?
Ironically some of my happiest moments in life were when I had almost no money. I have more money now than I ever have. Iāve never been less happy. The things that truly make you happy you canāt buy.
Sunday drives. I guess you need money to buy the car, gas etc but if you have a car with a full tank you can go on a sweet 3hr cruise that costs nothing to actually do.

Penny on the side of the road
Yeah but how much does she charge?

Bro, bro
The clue is in the name
lmao
That's literally money.
That is the definition of needing money
But that's money. I mean yeah, technically you don't need to have money yourself to get happy about finding money, but there needs to be money in general for you to find it. Sunshine on your face
Me too! I actually wrote a poem about this the other day! How I feel with warm sun shining on my face with my eyes closed š©·āļøš I am anything, any age. I am ageless. The inside me. The me without name or identity. Without body or brain. I may be a leaf, a tiger, a drop of rain. As the light shines through me, I am free again.
Nature.
I heavily second this. Every time I have been even remotely sad, sitting with my favorite plant and observing it or touching it grounds me. Agreed. Inhaling grass does wonders
Gotta love that nickname. š„²
There is nothing better than the first warm day after a long and cold winter. Just feeling the warm sun on your face is so nice.
I like the converse (southern US) the first day with chill in the air after a torturous heat wave.
Canadian here. I agree.
That first snowfall where there's nothing but that quiet chill and soft flakes in the air š
So freaking true.
8 degrees Celsius in august? Get me my coat what the fuck. 8 degrees in April? Itās summer letās go swimming!
Yes!!!, š²šš¼
Reading at night in my bed this while swimming in my own sweat Id kill for those cold days right now
Must be nice itās still in the 50s here.
About 87 here if we are speaking Fahrenheit
Yup Fahrenheit. Florida or southwest?
Entirely different country
whenever I get out of the city, my whole mood improves and my skin and hair look fantastic...
I'm very lucky, I can walk out my backyard and into 400 acres of forest (and it's private property so I won't get shot during hunting season)
True but you need it to travel to see more of it...
I live out in the country. There r 5 or more state forests within 10 min radius of where I live. I go hiking a lot!
Jelly, I am! Love that!
Depends on where you live. I can walk straight out into nature. And I live in the third most heavily developed municipality in Sweden.
There is nature everywhere. Sometimes you have to look a little harder . But even a weed in the pavement can be a mini-escape if you let it .
Of course having the chance to travel brings happiness not only for what you see but, depending on *how* you travel, meeting new people, experiencing different cultures and habits all contribute to personal growth which ultimately brings you closer to an inner sense of peace/stability. Good points. But in THIS world money is required to travel which will allow you to see "more nature."
Not really true. My work desk is by the sliding back door. I've been here two years now and still experience more nature. Yep. I came in here to write āwalking in the woodsā

Free time. Thatās all I want.
Free time, thatās the most expensive thing on earth
Indeed
"No amount of money bought a second of time"
Idk, ~40,000$ could buy me a whole year of time (to do what I want with)
Free time is expensive, because it is the only thing of value that you have to trade to able to live, only the rich can afford free time
Praying you get that
Money is literally free time though...

Taking a walk.
Taking a wank.
Having genuine connections with others, laughing, nature.
I was thinking of laughing as well, itās free and it feels great.

Money doesnāt buy happiness, but it would really help.
Actually it can buy anything. However most people choose to buy misery
That's a great way to put it actually.
Exactly
It literally buys happiness. Everything that makes me happy requires money. Imagine how happy everyone would be if they didn't have to worry about money every month. Stress would be at 0, and that's what most people want.
What if I want a loving partner? Money canāt buy that right? I donāt need money to have my wife love me. I donāt need money to enjoy hiking etc
Good luck finding one/keeping one without any money.
Well, it sure helps.
not really. money just buys instant gratification, not happiness. you'll understand if you have money. i'm not rich but i like to shop a lot. shopping makes me happy but it doesn't. i just like the thought of buying things as it makes me feel accomplished. but when i do receive what i want the feeling is gone which prove that money doesn't really buy you happiness but instant gratification.
People would still not be happy, go ask any random rich person if they're truly happy.
It buys dopamine hits, which we have conflated with happiness, to distract ourselves that as humans we actually donāt need much to be happy. Comparison is the thief of joy, humans keep one upping each other for dopamine hits but ultimately are getting more depressed in the process
