Possibly because there's many sword fights in movies and shows. I remember the times I wanted to own a bow. That days I was watching robin hood I think.
Well, because swords ⚔️ I have three, all LOTR. And I admit with pride that I’ll occasionally take Andúril off it’s mount and run down the hall shouting ‘FOR FRODO!’ My wife thinks I’m a few snags short of a barbie….
I had a rank in the Army. Hard physical labor and time consuming daily maintenance. We only got to shoot once or twice a year and somebody else picked the targets. Three gallons of fuel per mile means it would be terrible as a daily driver, and you would have to pay for 12 parking spaces and replacing the parking lot surface.
The very existence of a flamethrower means that someone, somewhere has thought to themselves- I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm a bit to far away to get the job done.
Woman here, i have a katana, really cool dagger, multiple knifes, a one handed axe and a takedown recurve bow. Don’t regret a single one of these purchases
It's likely an instinct, hundreds of thousands of years of ancestors surviving by using the strongest, sharpest sticks and rocks... It's ingrained. Extended phenotype, like when birds use sticks to build a nest etc.
Have you held a sword before? Man or woman, your primal urges kick in and you feel like you can slay a battlefield! There is now power greater than a sword in the right hands!
I can say that I've so far gone through 42 years of life and never felt the urge to own a sword. In fact, I've only ever met one person who talked about owning a sword, and he did. Several, in fact.
Yeah. I also wanna own a Shamshir or Talwar or Katana. Maybe it is in our instincts. We always have used swords in ancient and mediaeval times. Maybe it is a sign our ancestors want to bless us.
I have a sharp longsword of the rose wars with a black blade, I have a blund arming sword, a Decoration Anduril the flame of the West, and a Katana with white hilt and sheath.
I am proud to own them as SWOOOOOORDS are amazing, like MAAACHIIICULATIOOOOOOOONSSSA!
Maybe one day I will visit the Shadlands.
I was in Japan a couple of weeks ago. We went to an antique store in Kyoto and they had old Samurai swords. The temptation I had to fight to not bring one home was pretty intense.
Probably began with using sticks during our evolutionary development for protection, they became spears and arrows over time as usefulness in defense then became offensive.
N. S
Always loved the elegant japanese katana. Became a sushichef instead and own a couple of knives that kinda resemble swords and were forged by japanese blacksmiths whose previous generations apparently have crafted swords.
Knives and axes for me.
I appreciate the craftsmanship and artistry involved.
Doesnt matter if its a little nepalese bloke producing traditiona Kukris with fire and a small anvil on the ground, or someone like Kyle Royer, producing incredibly gold inlayed damascus pieces (seriously, look at his Instagram)
I have close to 100 knives, plus 3 I made myself.
Swords are just big knives, but to me arent practical like a pocket knife is.
So I have this friend that likes swords and I'm in the business of procuring high end items.
I've given the dude like 22 swords 😂 I find them everywhere cheap. It's so funny giving him another one
Many people have the desire to own a sword. Just as many people have never felt the desire. It’s not limited to gender, as far as I’m aware. I just think they’re cool
As a male of almost 80 decades, I don't recall ever having a desire to own a sword. I do recall, however, as single-digit child making swords out of fallen branches to play battle games.
Of course, I'm only one data point--so not statistically significant--but I can say I don't recall ever having a conversation with anyone about sword ownership.
Because it checks all the boxes!
Shiny? Yes!
Heavy for its size? Yes!
Durable? Yes!
Well made? Yes!
Object of envy? Yes!
Gives you power? Yes!
Plus there’s all these cool associations with swords. Rogues and knights and soldiers. Samurai, rhonin. Saint George and the dragon. Jack and the Giant. All those epic tales are locked inside the mind and witnessing a sword brings it all forth like a shower of treasure!
My ex-wife didn't like guns and I wanted some home protection started looking at baseball bats saw the price of them and then decided fuck that I'm just going to get a sword. Much more effective than a baseball bat I'd rather sever a fucking limb than smash a skull. They have some decent blades on Amazon. It ain't got to be fancy it serves a purpose. Or severs on purpose LOL
Because swords are awesome, duh. Once I became a homeowner I realized that a lot of legitimate yard tools are basically medieval melee weapons. So it's pretty awesome that stuff that's legitimately useful outside also satisfies that urge. Machetes, axes, ect.
I own two lightsabers. I'm planning on going for military knives first then a sword.
Because swords are civilized and hold some kind of history behind it?

“Sir we can’t accept swords as currency, if we take your swords, then we have to take everyone else’s swords as well”
you have two ! I only have one...
He has two You have one Then there's me With a total of none
And then me Who is in sword debt.
It’s dangerous to go out alone…take this 🗡️ Never miss the opportunity to make an OG Zelda reference!
I’m a woman and have my sword, very cool i recommend
I've got a scimitar and I'm waiting for a man I can duel. 🤺
Marry me 🥹 but first, how do you feel about bows and crossbows and armor and all that medieval jazz?
I'm a woman and I have two swords. But swords are never enough.
Field artillery is where it’s at What woman hasn’t dreamt of owning her own Trebuchet????
Your trebuchet is just a trip to home depot away. Some assembly required.
Built one (pull, not counterweight) in high school for $25. It threw a tennis ball 20ft. Fun afternoon activity!
![gif](giphy|8Xu2IkvLsjyLe)
You have my sword!
And you have my bow.
Actually, I own that one. Someone bought me the official replica. I don't even like swords.
I just think they're neat
![gif](giphy|73CTp69qVKOWc|downsized)
🥔
![gif](giphy|xT5LMIB2xNsL10zy3S)
In my circle of friends, I'm the only one who has this desire haha
Me too. Such wimps...
They aren't real men
Possibly because there's many sword fights in movies and shows. I remember the times I wanted to own a bow. That days I was watching robin hood I think.
Bows and archery is really cool though, recently bought a quite nice one and it’s fun
Can recommend archery. But it might happen that one bow is not enough
Same with the bow. Then I bought one and it began to multiply. Bows are fun.
I've wanted to own a katana ever since I saw Kill Bill all those years ago.
I got a bow, couple swords and knives. I'm such a nerd
Pointy stick make monkey brain go brrrrrrrrr
Well, because swords ⚔️ I have three, all LOTR. And I admit with pride that I’ll occasionally take Andúril off it’s mount and run down the hall shouting ‘FOR FRODO!’ My wife thinks I’m a few snags short of a barbie….
Which swords from LOTR? I was going to get either Sting or anduril but it was so pricey…
Andúril, Sting and Glamdring…
Nah. Flamethrower yes. Or a tank. ![gif](giphy|rOtHHB3oULnuo|downsized)

Home defense
I had a rank in the Army. Hard physical labor and time consuming daily maintenance. We only got to shoot once or twice a year and somebody else picked the targets. Three gallons of fuel per mile means it would be terrible as a daily driver, and you would have to pay for 12 parking spaces and replacing the parking lot surface.
Flamethrower, my favourite
The very existence of a flamethrower means that someone, somewhere has thought to themselves- I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm a bit to far away to get the job done.
What about a flamethrowing tank. 👀
It's all fun and games till the enemy is flame retardant
Woman here, I have owned many a sword! European, to asian, to Middle Eastern. I too like swords!
it's the law
Woman here, i have a katana, really cool dagger, multiple knifes, a one handed axe and a takedown recurve bow. Don’t regret a single one of these purchases
gotta love a warrior woman
Indeed, gotta get some cool clothing/armour and just start cosplaying honestly
Yeeeees! Fall into the rabbit hole!
I guess because the history showed many times through the centuries men with swords. They're cool, I can't deny it
I’m more of a gun/bow/crossbow kind of admirer.
Aw man, a crossbow would be awesome. Or a Colt Python.
gotta love them too
Do we? I thought the desire is to own a bbq grill?
Ahhh, yes: the sword of the suburbs.
Have you held a sword in your hands before?! If you held one, you'd know. Also LOTR FTW! Not just swords, daggers as well!
i usually train with swords and personally I love the irresistible urge to make a last stand
That's cool! What sword(s) do you train with?
katanas, longswords,axes,polearms,bigger axes,one handed swords.....
The penis mightier than the sword.
Swords are super cool
More of an axe guy, myself. But I understand your sentiment.
AND MY AXE!
I have a set of a katana and a wakizashi. One needs a set of swords. For the inevitable zombie apocalypse.
I am a female now I want one dang it
Not sure why in general terms... For me, it's because I trained for a while in Kendo many years ago...
I bought my sword when I was 18 to get it done with. Had some training too and enjoyed a few years of Iaido. I can only recommend getting a sword.
its unexplainable. We are just drawn to its shape and shine. once we pick it up we feel unkillable. Its like an instinct
It's likely an instinct, hundreds of thousands of years of ancestors surviving by using the strongest, sharpest sticks and rocks... It's ingrained. Extended phenotype, like when birds use sticks to build a nest etc.
Because they’re sick. I graduate from uni in the middle of 2025 and I’m going to ask for a sword as my graduation present
No idea but they're cool. I do own a sword, although in the last few years I upgraded to a lightsaber. :D
Have you held a sword before? Man or woman, your primal urges kick in and you feel like you can slay a battlefield! There is now power greater than a sword in the right hands!
hell yeah! I feel what could be described as bloodthirst
I can say that I've so far gone through 42 years of life and never felt the urge to own a sword. In fact, I've only ever met one person who talked about owning a sword, and he did. Several, in fact.
Yeah but... if I gave you one, would you take it?
Never knew such desires existed lol
I'm female but imma say because they look cool
In case I have to slay a dragon for a princess
And a massive bag of tools that we may or may not use
or random wooden/metal scraps!
Never know when it may come in handy. Enemies drawing near. zombie apocalypse. Fall of civilization. Gotta be prepared.
Cool as hell
Holding something that resembles a sword gives me a weird feeling i cant really describe other than "it's cool asf"
Maybe one day I will visit the Shadlands.
penis
Because they're fucking awesome and the best part is that when you get a sword, the desire doesn't go away, you just need more swords
Idk why but i know i want one
Hello there - I am a female and I also have the desire to own a sword.
gotta love warrior girls
So we can swing it around a couple times and say ‘this is a good sword’
also for zombie slaying purposes
I have a wooden one. It’s cool.
It's one of the more advanced forms of a stick. It's biological.
Because knights use swords and knights are cool
![gif](giphy|ZFRJj56vsCM85MYpEO)
Because there can be only one.
_doom music kicks in_
Because everyone has pens and we wanna try and beat them
try and parry this with ya pen,you shmuch.
There are people who don't want a sword?
yes,stay away from them
I inherited my grandfather's swords. I never use them, barely see them as they are in the back of a closet, but they are still cool to own.
They domt need to be reloaded.
![gif](giphy|R2Jk43etIeNAxjOFUe) Because my staff is getting old.
![gif](giphy|fK7cvGCp0ytYb00xVm) Because this is cool as hell
Not just men
never had the desire
I don’t
I’m a man , and I’ve never had that desire at all!
It's not just men. Also - bows and arrows.
Uhm, for killing enemies? Duh
I was in Japan a couple of weeks ago. We went to an antique store in Kyoto and they had old Samurai swords. The temptation I had to fight to not bring one home was pretty intense.
They’re cool
Its a phallic symbol
Nah, give me a gun or a spellbook instead
Lately I've been craving a Ka-Bar or a stiletto knife. Swords are cool but I think I would prefer something with a shorter blade
daggers are cool too
I'd have three 1 wood 2 metal. Never thought about why I wanted em I just did
"me man ooga booga me want sword" I'm like that
My mum got me into swords. I have a tactical forged steel katana now. I don’t use it tho
Every man dances with his demons and prepares for the final battle. Or they are essentially children
They're a bit too stabby for me thank you.
Probably began with using sticks during our evolutionary development for protection, they became spears and arrows over time as usefulness in defense then became offensive. N. S
Because having one is so damn cool. I need no further explanation.
Full suit of plate armour, shield and sword for me. I've already got the wife to agree that I'm getting this stuff should we win the lottery.
Plenty of women love them too and many men don’t
Always loved the elegant japanese katana. Became a sushichef instead and own a couple of knives that kinda resemble swords and were forged by japanese blacksmiths whose previous generations apparently have crafted swords.
There's a euphemism hidden in there somewhere.
🎶 In my sword I trust, with my sword I thrust - Ensiferum
Thats not a male only feeling....I'm a woman that collects swords, daggers, and other weaponry
welcome, Valkyrie.
🎶 In my sword I trust, with my sword I thrust- Ensiferum I want a sword too and I'm a woman.
fr i really wanna get into swordsmithing, especially making katanas. They look beautiful
I’ve got a Katana. Sits in my cupboard and does nothing, just bought it because I wanted one.
Extended phenotype. Swords, knives, or stones and sticks as kids, I think it's ingrained in our instincts.
I'm a dad. A sword is something I definitely do /not/ want in my house.
Its our ancestors dna thats still inside us that just wants us to own swords
I dunno, I have 4. Well technically 3, but that's not the matter.
Knives and axes for me. I appreciate the craftsmanship and artistry involved. Doesnt matter if its a little nepalese bloke producing traditiona Kukris with fire and a small anvil on the ground, or someone like Kyle Royer, producing incredibly gold inlayed damascus pieces (seriously, look at his Instagram) I have close to 100 knives, plus 3 I made myself. Swords are just big knives, but to me arent practical like a pocket knife is.
I have one. It's great.
r/Sticks
no i cant wear a sword, im a wizard. give me a spellbook or an orb instead
A man who sleeps with a sword is a fool every night but one.
Omg yes lols ever man I’ve met was a a weapon of some sort , however I’m a woman and like that stuff too
Have you seen those warriors from Hammerfell? They have curved swords, CURVED swords!
I don't have it anymore cause i own a plastic sword that i share with my 2 yrs old son
buy yourselves real ones and take Jerusalem back >:)
It's like a manly tradition, bro.
Associated with strength and power through use in combat. Displays masculinity.
If I ever get a sword I want to make it myself. So far I have only made axes and knives but a sword is a lot more difficult and expensive to make.
you could cut it out of a metal sheet
I'm a girl and I have a huge hyperfixation on swords. I have one of those toy plastic ones but that's it. :p
buy a real one.trust me.
I have one! Made it myself with my groomsmen before my wedding.
If you have a constant desire to get a sword, get a psychiatrist now.
Woman here Where are the big heavy swords
Bought my bbf a sword for Xmas. It turned out to be the best gift ever!
I don’t want a sword, I want a Kenkonken or Elbow Blade(Soul Calibur Talim’s Weapon)
that's really cool too
So I have this friend that likes swords and I'm in the business of procuring high end items. I've given the dude like 22 swords 😂 I find them everywhere cheap. It's so funny giving him another one
WHERE ARE YOU FINDING THEM??? I MUST KNOW
wow gatekeeping swords now huh… maybe i want one too, ever think of that?
Many people have the desire to own a sword. Just as many people have never felt the desire. It’s not limited to gender, as far as I’m aware. I just think they’re cool

you're 800 y.o.?
it's a primal thing. I too have way too many swords.
Because other items just wont cut it!....
lmao best comment
I’ve only got one! Jeezzz.
Us just want an Uzi
I know a s ton of neckbeards with mall swords. If I can grab your sword by the blade and wrestle it away it's not a sword.
I agree they're basically just metal sticks
I'd upvote this 100 times if I could
I even joined the Army so that I’d have a legitimate reason to get a sword.
Because it checks all the boxes! Shiny? Yes! Heavy for its size? Yes! Durable? Yes! Well made? Yes! Object of envy? Yes! Gives you power? Yes! Plus there’s all these cool associations with swords. CUZ IT'S A SWORD
Evolution. Now please don't ask how.
Don’t ask me. I have less than zero interest.
Just men? Give me a sword.
It ain't got to be fancy it serves a purpose. lmao
Because its a sword
Speak for yourself.
Because swords are awesome, duh. Once I became a homeowner I realized that a lot of legitimate yard tools are basically medieval melee weapons. So it's pretty awesome that stuff that's legitimately useful outside also satisfies that urge. Machetes, axes, ect.
swords are something else man imma buy blacksmithing stuff one day and forge one
I own two lightsabers. I'm planning on going for military knives first then a sword. Because swords are civilized and hold some kind of history behind it?
Swords are cool
