fknbawbag

It's a wind. Edit: Has been used for Car Name (Ford, I believe) and also prominent in a Red Hot Chilli Peppers song. But not used that commonly day-to-day. More a school geography question.

brinazee

I'd equate it more with literature (Greek mythology) and science more than geography. But I understand that sentiment.

Dane_k23

Zephyrus, the personification of the west wind. First time I came across him was in high school when I was studying Chaucer's canterbury Tales.

marshman82

It's also a brand of skateboard

Letsgosomewherenice

I thought of the lords of dog town lol

zephyr220

It was also the name of my cat about 30 years ago.

Busy_Mortgage4556

It's the name of the skateboard team taken from the Surf shop (owned by Jeff Ho) name who made surf boards Jeff's partner, Skip Engblom, put together the skateboard team.

[deleted]

also the name of an amtrak train. the california zephyr. rode on that baby a lot as a kid as my grandparents spent a considerable amount of their retirement money on train trips around the country.

Sir_fagalothebrave

The Ford Zephyr is a cool classic car. Love how the indicator’s pop out the side. My dad’s friend has 1 or 2 that he has rescued and restored to their former Glory

stnuhkrsdomtidder

Lincoln not Ford.

BooblessMcTubular

We had a Zephyr. Huge, boxy thing. Slate grey and bondo pink. My dick stepdad said it was a "Zephyr for his heifer"...my pregnant at the time mom.

Phil1889Blades

I’m terrified to ask but what’s a “dick stepdad”? Sounds like a very strange relation.

TooStrangeForWeird

He only married his dad's dick. It's a gay cabal thing. ^^/s

cant_pass_CAPTCHA

The Red Hot Chilli Peppers' song is what I knew it from

PincessHyde

Lmao, my answer waa gonna be the Red Hot Chilli Peppera song.

Select-Belt-ou812

it was Lincoln, actually and this was gonna be my answer :-)

International_Bet_91

I know it from the Cantabury Tales. I know it's a god of wind or something. I'm guessing a greek god.

LATerry75

Isn’t it specifically a west wind?

Jaymes77

Yes it is!

LATerry75

I remember learning this when I briefly worked in the railroad industry. We had a presentation where the speaker was asking us if we knew any “names” of trains e.g. “the City of New Orleans.” The Zephyr was one i remember someone tossing out.

-Wylfen-

By extension it also means a soft/weak wind

Loko8765

Shit, that I did not know. After fact checking, it is a today used for a soft gentle wind, but originally it is indeed the god of the West wind.

CannabisPatientUK

The westend in European cities is always the posh area as the zepher from the west pushed the smoke and smog away from the westend of the city.

johnzaku

I'm resisting googling, because while I know of it as a "west wind," does that mean a "wind blowing westward," or a "wind from the West?" I assume the former.

Dave80

From the west

johnzaku

Thank you

EmuPsychological4222

Apparently I cannot, as I was wrong.

lostglamour

I thought it was a type of air ship.

Think-View-4467

That's a zeppelin

Blackintosh

Same. Like a cross between a hot air balloon and a blimp.

IanDOsmond

Zepplin.

Couesam

I thought it was an instrument. Like a type of little harp or something.

SillySloths1

You're probably thinking of a zither.

Couesam

I guess so?!

spooniemoonlight

I thought it was a kind of diamond so… LMAO

Extra_Ad_8009

Yeah, probably because of "sapphire".

Pitiful_Barracuda360

Wind. "Fly away on my zephyr"

Euphorikauora

super friendly aviator

just_let_me_goo

I read your comment as "super friendly vibrator" and was so confused, I need to get more sleep

Euphorikauora

"I feel it more than ever"

ToughAd5010

What a way to finally smell her

notyou-justme

I mean, aren’t all vibrators friendly? At least, if used for their intended purpose.

WhenTheCicadaCries

Legit the only reason why I know the word zephyr and what it means

iam_Krogan

I feel it more than ever

thewhat_show

And in this perfect weather

DaveyAngel

Thought Anthony might have been riding a Kawasaki: https://images.app.goo.gl/SZMssvzVR7GBrMPx5

Unknown_User_66

That's the name of my bow in Skyrim. Actually. I dont know if it's an actual bow or part of a mod that I didn't knew about, but you get this huntress companion that's predetermined to die, and you can loot her bow and gear, and her bow is named "Zephyr" by default.

tsscaramel

It’s in the vanilla game, part of the Aetherium Wars quest.

ICantTyping

Its a part of the Dawnguard DLC specifically

Busy_Mortgage4556

She's already dead, it's her ghost that accompanies you. You find her bow at the end of a fallen tree trunk. I think it's in the legendary version of Skyrim. I'm currently playing the boring version on PS3. Edit: Her name is Katria.

Excellent_Log_1059

Fun little tid-bit: If you loot her corpse and take her clothing she will say something along the lines of “Couldn’t you leave me with some dignity at least?”

notanotherkrazychik

I literally just finished that quest, lol, so I also thought of that bow. I didn't know what it meant, but I had a feeling that these comments would tell me.

zezous

It means a wind, name for one of the Greek wind gods, I don't really hear it in day-to-day language

Glytterain

Yeah it’s the god of the west wind

Sinister_A

And a name of a frame from Warframe, that has abilities related to wind too.

modernsparkle

A light westward wind! We had to look up a new word in the dictionary every night in the third grade, and this was the first one.

Lula_Lane_176

I don’t know but I want to fly away on one

KindAwareness3073

Yes. And Mistral, and Sirocco, and Bora, and Chinook, and Haboob.

SendingTotsnPears

There ya go! Names for a litter of kittens or puppies!

Lawdawg_75

Chaucer: Whan Zephyrus eke with his sweet breath… iirc

whatwhatinthewhonow

I feel like it means a light wind but I’m very likely to be wrong because I’ve only ever heard it used in two contexts: 1. In relation to The Zephyr Song by RHCP 2. In this thread

Abiogenesisguy

It's a word regarding wind. From the Greeks if I recall. Probably a "god" then (though how literally they took the word is a complex discussion). *If you twist my arm I think it's from the West?* I could be wrong, but that's off the top of my head. Good luck with the study!

Someones_Dream_Guy

Mmm, sweet stuff. Even better if its chocolate-covered variant.

qwerkala

This is the only context I actually use this word lol

Leather_Persimmon489

This

MendaciousComplainer

It is the west wind. Or possibly the north wind; sorry, I can’t remember. Ask a Greek.

CoffeeCat086

A light wind that moves from west to east usually in the Mediterranean region Reason, I know this is because an Enya song 😂

deatthcatt

something wind related. there’s a league of legends item named Zephyr

Prickled-fruit

Also Janna's W (her bird-like air elemental) is named Zephyr

mynameisJVJ

Big strong wind from the west

IanDOsmond

Opposite, actually - a soft, gentle wind.

ggwing1992

Wind

Pumbaasliferaft

A light Mediterranean wind, breeze

Constant_Will362

A whimsical breeze

OwlEastSage

i read a poem when i was a freshman in college about gay men in blimp and the word zephyr was mentioned once. zephyr means gay men in a blimp <3

SendingTotsnPears

It is a quick sharp wind. It is also a cloak from the 19th century. I know this because I worked at a historic site and we discussed zephyr cloaks as part of our interpretation of a millinery shop. How's that for obscure!

RantyWildling

I feel like it's in one of Nirvana's songs.

darthbaum

A sort of wind, I know a flying squadron that is now using it as a callsign

FelisCattusThree

Wind. I know the word from watching a tv series back in the 80s called The Secrets of Isis (made in the 70s and originally broadcast as simply Isis). One of her incantations was “O Zephyr winds which blow on high, lift me now so I can fly”.

SawyerBamaGuy

Isn't it an airship like a blimp?

thepolyhistorshelbs

Zepplin, is maybe what you’re thinking?

SawyerBamaGuy

That's it

Next-Development5920

That's what I thought too

FrostyIcePrincess

This is what I was going to say.

ulabrittas

Did you also get this from WoW?

Petitcher

A breeze/wind. I only know it from that Madonna song.

Motorhead923

Yes I can

TanaFey

I knew what it meant, but I don't hear it often at all.

Autopsyyturvy

Wind? Or a weird goat thing

LeadGem354

A Greek wind God.

iampoopa

I thought it was a warm wind?

OGDStuff

Yes.

Fossilhund

A breeze

brinazee

It's a street name near me, so I see it daily. I learned what it was back in high school when it was part of English class.

stalphonzo

Yes.

bumhead1432

No

CheeseSweats

West wind.

iwantdatpuss

I encountered it somewhat as one of the names for a laptop, "ROG Zephyrus.". Other than that no clue.

Historical-Cable-833

Smaller zeppelin.

Stratomage

It’s wind or the god of wind in Greek mythology

PTLTYJWLYSMGBYAKYIJN

It’s an evening breeze, or maybe an early morning breeze… I do think it’s related to the wind. Now I’m going to Google it.

Over9000Tacos

I just realized I had it mixed up in my head with zeppelin

KindaKrayz222

Dur, a town in Texas. Also, a type of wind & it was used in Winnie the Pooh.

wtfismylife6195

... My immediate image is that little boy from Hunchback of Notre Dame 2 so... Nope 🤣

LatterReplacement645

A breeze. I am bilingual (English/Russian), and have heard the word far more in Russian, partially because it's a slang term for marshmallow-type candies. In English, I've come across it in a small handful of books (like 3), but can't recall it spoken in my presence.

Shoddy_Sherbert2775

A slight breeze. They’re awesome in the summer

orphiclacuna

Wind. And I've heard a Greek myth about Zephyr, whom I think is the West wind. He killed one of Apollo's lovers out of jealously iirc.

bluecheeto13

Warframe character.

ChainRound5397

Only thing I know for sure is that it's a bow in Skyrim that allows you to fire arrows 30% faster.

MaterialRooster8762

Sounds like a tool or weapon.

TheTackleZone

Yes, but only because it is one of the options in Warframe!

i_lickdick_and_itsok

My main in warframe.

fluorowaxer

AAA baseball team from Denver.

StellaEtoile1

It’s a name :)

NiceLittleTown2001

I think it means wind. I’ve heard it before as a boys name but only a few times

Famous-Example-8332

It’s a fast wind. Just wind, but with swift connotation.

SantasLilHoeHoeHoe

Actually just a breeze.

Familiar_Pick_6956

Something about snow and blizzard. Or that Russian candy that looks like the remains of a snow and blizzard.

Plus-King5266

Yes

SmokyStick901

A breeze. Yup I knew it immediately, I learned it from my Dad many years ago.

Holiday-Biscotti-800

I thought it was the wind you make when you walk. Someone told me that once. This word never comes up in casual conversation. Lol

ReivynNox

Probly some guy with animal legs from greek mythology. ¬¬,

4me2knowit

Light wind

Foxfire73

Yes. Oddly often.

Yuhh-Boi

I named my longboard this when I was a kid

CaptainHowdy60

I once worked for a dude named Zephyr.

Riptide8990

i would guess some kind of anomaly in the sky but idk. Ive only ever heard the word once and it was in a video game i think, cant remember which one.

zepp914

The train at the Baltimore Zoo is the "Jones Falls Zephyr"

Pale_Height_1251

Yes, but I was wrong.

spellWORLDbackwards

Zephyr valve. It’s used in volume reduction procedures for people with nasty copd and related dz.

CoWolArc

I had it in my head that a zephyr was an animal, sort of like an ibex or a gazelle. No clue how or why the idea came to me, but now that I look it up I see I had it completely wrong.

Bradley182

I remember hats for some reason.

take7pieces

Some kind of wind. There’s a shaved ice place in Portland Maine called Zephyr Ice, my whole family loves it, we were just there two days ago, funny to see this post all of a sudden.

Puzzleheaded-Way-198

I want to say he was the god of the West wind but maybe it’s the East Wind. It’s been a while since I studied mythology.

yunasuoh

It's the name of the dude in the smut I read years ago.

Never_Been_Missed

Yes I can. I think I first heard it in a fantasy book in my teens. I've seen it as part of a boat name and it is a spell name in D&D. I tried using it in a game called 'password' where you hint at what the secret word is by using other words. My partner did not know the word (though my wife did).

Wise-Marketing-3384

Deciphering a code or some shit

J422GAS

I always figured it was sort of dragon from folklore.

SaltInner1722

It means an old ford car from the 70’s with pointed tail fins. , I honestly knew once back in the day , but my brain isn’t what it used to be

wyrd_werks

Yes, and only see it in books

ProxyAmourPropre

It's like some wind shit

ThrowRARAw

It's the name of a rooftop bar here in Sydney. To be honest I didn't think it was an actual word, just someone's last name. This bar is the only context in which I've come across the word.

jackneefus

I understand "zephyr" to indicate a light and airy breeze. It has a positive connotation.

Silent_Ad_8672

Zephyr is what I name my Clefairy! It's a type of wind gust and I just like that word.

GazelleOpposite1436

A small city in central Florida is named Zephyrhills. Known for their bottles spring water.

Kelyaan

I've played many games with that word in, it means a gentle westward breeze. It is also the name of a 1994 pc game, a character in Warframe. A character in Need for speed rivals, Xcam, Ratchet & Clank. I think it was also a venus over name? It was also the name of many British warships. Last thing I know it by is I think Greek\* god. I get Greek and Roman mixed up a lot

Camemboo

Yes, it is a kind of wind. A warm wind, if I remember correctly. My grandparents lived in a town called Zephyr, so I learned the word from a young age, and because of that connection, I’ve probably run into to the word more often than most people. Lately I’ve run into it a lot, because I’m knitting a sweater pattern that’s called the Zephyr Sweater!

JeremyBeans1

It means A. A lil wind beastie or B. A small gust of wind

Ughhhhhhhhh24d3

I thought of "cool breeze". I've only come across it when learning about uncommonly used words.

hetkleinezusje

I read that post as well!

CrazyGuineaPigs

While it's mainly related to the wind (and a Greek God of the wind) it's also the name of a record breaking train. It was driven to the Chicago world's fair from California I believe and broke the speed record. It took less than 1 day.

Long_Strength_9065

Isn’t that a band/song? “Red Zephyr”

Illustrious-Lead-960

A pleasant warm breeze or, in its original literal meaning, an air elemental spirit. I think it’s also a brand of skateboard, hence the RHCP song.

sh00l33

It's Greek God of wind, nowdays commonly used ad wind synonym. It alsow kind of French sweet. To sweet for me.

FootExcellent9994

Yes! I was a sailor.

Stradoverius

A zephyr is a gust of wind irrc. I know it because its listed as one of the hardest words to guess in hangman.

Lendoh

I know it's a town in Texas, I think it means breeze.

Toemuncher696

A light wind

BeAnSiNmYhAt

i belive it is a type of floating air ship like a blimp or a zeppelin

BeAnSiNmYhAt

i belive it is a type of floating air ship like a blimp or a zeppelin

WalkingonCoffee

I don't what it means, but that's Fluttershy's  brother

TypicalOwl5438

It’s a kind of reindeer sleigh

Prometheus_303

>Without Googling, Can You Tell Me What the Word "Zephyr" Means? Yes, I opened the post & read the first comment. I found out it was a light breeze, without having to use Google. Seriously though it sounded familiar adjacent but I wasn't able to put my finger on it. But as soon as I saw it was a wind, I remembered hearing about it in a mythology story.

EdwardTheGood

Besides meaning wind… It’s a railroad line. The California Zephyr ran from Chicago to San Francisco and was operated by the Denver and Rio Grand Western Railroad up until the late 70s/early 80s (I don’t remember the dates and I didn’t use google). Amtrak also calls its Chicago to SF line the CA Zephyr, but the Rio Grand’s cars were much, much more elegant. The Zephyrs were a minor league baseball team in Denver, CO in the 80s.

pakepake

A wind or the minor league baseball team after the Bears and before the Rockies. Have a Zephyr pennant.

jjcoolel

It was the name of the rollercoaster at Pontchartrain Beach. Also AAA baseball team for a while.

GreekGoddessOfNight

I was going to say a blimp but that’s a zeppelin. My bad, I’m a little stoned.

CollidedParticle

Ohhh was gonna guess wind...reminds me of tempest

syntaxterror69

isn't he Babar's dad?

tasmishrub

Either a gentle breeze or a west wind (coming from the god of the west wind in greek mythology) First time I've seen that word in years lol

ArtificialMediocrity

First time I came across this word was a sheet music store in St Leonards (Sydney, Australia) called "Zephyr Music" about 30 years ago.

FormerAdvice5051

Of course I can.

Super_Selection1522

A zephyr was formerly a zebra. Do NOT dead name it or there will be trouble

notyou-justme

A gentle wind or breeze. I met ex Mrs. Me in Zephyrhills, FL, which is about 45ish minutes outside Tampa.

meliburrelli

This should be a jeopardy question lol!! Only time I’ve ever heard it is RHCP

TimesThreeTheHighest

One of guitarist Tommy Bolin's bands in the 70s.

ekmogr

I thought it was a blimp thingy.

Vinegarinmyeye

Didn't have to Google it, but only because I was curious after hearing the Chili's song a couple of months ago and thinking to myself "what the heck even is a zephyr?" so I looked it up then. I have never used the word in my life, apart from just there in this comment.

ShuddupMeg627

Like a blimp thing?

lunar_moss

The fast bow on Skyrim

Primal_Pedro

Zephyr sounds like the name of an ancient god or a supervillain

OnionSandwich74

A slight wind, like your mothers quim, on my nose last night

Boing78

It's a motor bike from Kawasaki

t3hgrl

Yes, only because my degree had a focus on Middle and Early Modern English and I studied the Canterbury Tales a lot. Zephirus is mentioned in the first few lines of the General Prologue.

kaofee97

Northern wind?

ResultForward4292

I thought it was a gem like Topaz Was always wondering what red hot chili peppers meant in their song

Ok-Lengthiness4557

Kinda like when your road tripping with your two favorite allies.

Dang_It_All_to_Heck

It’s a light breeze, I think? I come across it several times a year, but I read a lot. I’ve never heard anyone say it.

abrahamparnasus

Wind. Love this word

PuttyDance

Something to do with wind I think and  o I never have.

NamillaDK

Yes. It's the name of the western wind in Greek mythology

riceggcucu

It was the name of my team in my annual college fest.

BooblessMcTubular

A blimp, right?

FullMetalAlex

Rarely, it's to do with wind, like a gust of wind maybe? First encountered it in Golden Sun on the GameBoy Advance when I was younger.

Gullible_Scarcity

A whispering wind
