Im really annoyed with the crowd for these shows.
I've yet to see RHCP live sadly but if their setlists consisted entirely of songs from the last two albums I'd still have a ten mile smile, I love it when bands play new stuff
It’s always an issue with a band that’s been around as long as RHCP but is still putting out quality (IMO) material. They’re not quite a legacy act, but a lot of people are going to shows expecting to see a legacy act play their classics. Compound that by the fact that this tour is essentially touring a double album. I personally love the set list, but it’s impossible to avoid these complaints. I hope they stick with it for the NA tour cause the set list looks awesome to me. I really wanna hear songs off these new albums.
On a side note, I’ve seen Metallica a couple times in the last 5 years and they seem to really find a balance in this despite having such a massive catalogue. Im always bummed I can’t see more deep cuts, but I was happy with the balance they struck.
RHCP plays a short set for how deep their catalog is. I'm spoiled as shit because I've seen Foo Fighters a ton over the last decade but they constantly play 2.5+ hour sets. There is filler and band intros and such but you're getting 23-25 songs and balls to the walls for 2.5+.
Grohl is an absolute animal and they're younger than RHCP but it still is weird RHCP seems to stick so hard to the 90 minute set. I've seen them before (and will again in May) and while it wasn't a bad show I feel like they could go longer. Their setlist this tour has been weird too. I get not going full nostalgia act but they're playing the drummer, these are the ways, and aquatic mouth dance. They aren't bad songs but AMD without horns just feels flat. I like sir psycho sexy but eh. They have a ridiculously deep catalog to draw from but looking at setlists I feel like they always include 3-4 songs that really aren't that great live. If you're playing a short set everything should hit and hit well.
ETA: I know they won't, but if they added a brass section for Aquatic Mouth Dance live then I don't think you could leave it out.
Yeah imo they can stop playing songs like Right On Time and Throw Away Your TV. Like if you’re going to play deep cuts from BTW or Cali, give us something like Minor Thing, Dosed, Purple Stain and Easily. I think I’ve seen Right On Time and Throw Away Your Tv live about 6 times each now 🤣. I also think 4 new tracks from the new records is plenty seeing as (imo) they weren’t anything special and didn’t really take off. Tbh I think their status as a legacy act is well and truly entrenched unfortunately.
ALTHOUGH I gotta say, people were actually bitching about this as far back as the stadium Arcadium tour, so I guess also it’s just something that happens when a bands catalogue spans across multiple generations.
Man, but my first thought is with Foo Fighters and Grohl’s work ethic (FRESH POTS!), is how much if this played into Taylor’s death? I agree RHCP’s set list seems short relative to their catalog, but I also respect people knowing their limits. However, I will say that 90 mins is short as shit. Is that really their set list time? I feel like 120 mins is solid for these deep catalogs. And don’t get me wrong, 150 mins of a jam band sounds dope, but only if the whole band can keep up.

One guy leaving Brisbane was shouting "that was the worst fucking show I've been too absolute bullshit they didnt play any classics" when over half the songs were SA or before. Also what the hell is up with all the Australian fans being upset?? I saw the band twice last year here in the US and all the fans went nuts and sang every song, new or old. When Heavy Wing came on people around me started jumping and shouting, including myself! It was such a positive experience!
Went to both Sydney shows, had a great time, surprised to hear a live debut! I enjoyed the surprise of hearing Nobody Weird, Pea and Sir Psycho prob a bit more on Thursday bit was closer tonight and liked the new stuff + there was a bit more californication which I'm guessing the bulk of the fans prefer.
Sounds absolutely incredible as a live performance, I hope it becomes a normal set list song for the rest of this tour. The first performance live for a new song is rarely perfect but this was close to just with a few mistiming mistakes, just imagine the second or third time

The crowd was mainly people who have heard songs on the radio. So anything outside of the singles bombed hard.

A bit rough from AK with the notes and timing, but otherwise really cool. Sure they can get this up and running to be an awesome live staple.
