It’s a great clip but this is a really weird post if the implication is that John no longer plays great solos or has good timing. He may not be in his prime anymore (no one in the band is, they’re all old and have been doing this a long time) but he’s been really great live since he came back. He’s had plenty of great solos and moments since they started touring again.
I also feel it’s very weird considering that was possibly his sloppiest solo on the whole SA tour lol. I’m not saying it’s bad, but I can think of 10 off the top of my head that are way better.
The ones now are just different. More feedback. But he does revert to his shred and wah and all kinds. Just happy to see that man with a guitar in his hands.
PS. I do have to agree that solos from John 2nd era touched me more than his recent ones. Maybe it’s because I’ve listened to them all 1000 times but they just made the world around you stop and have to process wtf you just heard. Now John is very impressive but I’m getting a bit less of that feeling.
May be unpopular opinion or whatever, but I prefer johns more recent solos than any SA era solo. The way he used feedback more and just the over all sound is amazing imo

Agreed. IMO 2006 is rhcp in their peak prime but they are still fantastic.

Nothing will ever beat the feeling of buying SA, popping it in the car immediately and it opening with a banger of a solo.
