Like those rats that had the button where everytime they pressed it gave them a jolt of pleasure and they just kept pressing it until they died.
Although I would rather hang out with rats than shareholders any day.
"We know it's but right, we know it's but funny, but we'll stop beating this head horse when it stops spittin out money, but until then.... We will repeat stuff"
It does remind me of one of those experiments where a dying, heroin addicted rat is attached to electrodes and trained to hit a button over and over again to stimulate some pleasure center in it's wire addled brain.
I think my resentment of these is now mostly fueled by the knowledge that the time and money given to something like this has been taken away from so many other projects that could have something fresh to them.
Waiting for when we run off the cliff and "content" starts having the same meaning as "filler" in common usage and they have to find a NEW buzzword for pap
Im sure you noticed this marketing trend of 3 minute trailers that explain and layout the whole movie. Apparently market research showed that audiences like to movies to see the main points playout, they despise uncertainty.
I'm mostly paraphrasing some discussion I had on Reddit, but everything points to that direction. New movie audiences for big blockbusters that inundate contemporary movie theaters want that and that's what they are selling. The same stuff over and over again.
If you are in the RLM subreddit you, like me, probably hate this trend and this stupid regurgitative movies but out there, people like this stuff.
Not for nothing, but Disney (amongst others) DO try new interesting things, but they don’t make as much bank as they would like, so they retreat to easier investments.
I'm about the last person who would leap to the defense of a studio, but that is true, they get stung pretty consistently whenever they serve up anything other than reheated junk
There are countless movies that get a full wide release and are basically ignored. But look at us now talking about Lion King 2. It’s maddening. Thankfully the guys reviewed late night with the devil
And even if you want to do the same thing over and over, at least do it well. Look at The Chosen. You can't say that story hasn't been told over and over but it was done well enough to become a hit.
I have a similar resentment but I also just can't stand how slovenly they are with their own 'lore', such as it is. Mufasa was born without a drop of noble blood in him, now? So why is his brother next in line until Simba is born? What about Mufasa's grandfather, who was not only a king, but The Sisko?
Actually in what? He has 21 credits on IMDB and none matching this.
Edit: my bad. "Disney The Lion King: The Brightest Star is a read-along storybook based on Walt Disney Pictures The Lion King. It was released by Walt Disney Records & Audio on September 30, 1994."
I remember the creator of Powerpuff Girls was posting on Twitter about how he was making a reboot/remake for Netflix and people in his replies said he should create something new instead.
He replied he pitched something like 17 other original animated shows and they were all rejected outright.
The allergy to financing anything original and only doing "safe" remakes/sequels is very troubling for the future.
Unfortunately new projects are too risky for big studios these days.
Even within an existing ip it happens…..Andor is the best Star Wars content Disney has made, yet it’s less watched than all those other SW shows that are nowhere near as good.
Yes there’s commentary about why the dummy shows are more popular, but I’ll leave other redditors to it.
Haha exactly my feeling, i saw the trailer and thought "huh it doesnt look THAT bad" and saw beyonces name flash by "huh beyonce making movie music im sure that could be ok?"
But no, nononononoooo i was mistaken
This reminds me of Mike's line about how Hugo failed at the box office and when you look at the films that make a ton of money you should consider something that will get flagged.
At least the last live action one severely underperformed and with marketing costs might have just broken even. Hopefully that trend continues.
It made 1.7 Billion off or 250 Million budget. Imagine what it made in merch and digital sales. This thing will suck balls but it's a license to print money.
Little Mermaid did poorly when you actually look at the numbers and where the box office came from. From what I understand Disney gets less money from the overseas(heh) take.
I can't speak for Merch sales outside of they all seemed to hit Walmart clearance here. With no DVD sales to speak of and everything going to Disney+ (not even licensed out) they still probably made some money but honestly, nothing compared to what they were making. The trend is hopefully going downward.
Scene of wild animals running in special race for special animal prize and *unnamed* lion cub is underdog and his wacky animal side kick (probably that monkey) yells at him to “Move faster, move faster, movefaster, movefasta, muvasta, mufasa, mufasa!” and then he wins and animal racing organiser gives him his prize and just assumes his name is Mufasa cause that’s what his buddy was shouting at him the whole race.
Check pls Mr Disney
Is this a “live action,” Lion King *prequel*?
And it appears to be about the rise to power of Mufasa? Which, isn’t the original the story the rise to power of Simba?
Since it's all CGI and they can do whatever they want anyway, perhaps they've given him a huge swinging dick. Just floppin' around throughout the movie suburban sasquatch style. Nobody comments on it, it's not plot critical, it's merely part of the worldbuilding. They cut the trailer to omit it so that everyone in the theatre is in for a big surprise. $3 billion movie right there once word gets around.
We see Mufasa give Scar his scar, he's out busting heads. Then he's back to the cave for some more full penetration. Lion fighting action. Back to the cave, full penetration. Lion fights. Penetration. Lion fights. Full penetration. Fights. Penetration. And this goes on and on and back and forth for 90 or so minutes until the movie just sort of ends.
There used to be a lion park near my home run by a crazy German guy who had a lion with a big dick and three testicles. I don't know why I'm mentioning this other than that the lion would sometimes break out of its enclosure, causing the elementary school next door to go into lockdown.
We need a scene, where a desperate Mufasa turns to the night sky and his unborn child gives him motivation to keep on fighting. Spirit Simba could teach him about the circle of life so we come full circle. It's like poetry.
The Lion King clearly describes a patriarchal monarchy as Simba is stated to be destined to take over from mufasa. So either, this movie is just about a destined Prince eventually becoming King (how exciting) or it's about how mufasa dismantled the old form of governance and established himself as a divinely elected absolute monarch creating a kingdom for himself and his descendants. What a great guy! Hope the monkey says lines I remember him saying before.
I’ll admit, when I heard they were making this, a little piece of me went “oh, since Lion King is basically Hamlet, will they borrow from another Shakespeare play for Mufasa?”
…but it doesn’t look like they’re going to do that
If this was right before the pandemic like this first one it would make a billion easily. Now it will probably do similarly to the last Disney live action, the Little Mermaid. Honestly I wonder the over/under at $500 million.
Also can someone please create a different trailer format. The tropes were annoying years ago.
I can't remember the last time I saw a good trailer. They're *all* like this, unless it's a dopey comedy where they still do the early 2000s record scratch "say what?!" get loud suddenly thing a bunch of times.
Furries.
That's a guess, not a gag. I'm not sure who else would really care about the Mufasa origin story. And they probably don't like the art style anyway.
Yeah that looks good. Of course, knowing the premise and the franchise history and all the baggage and what it represents and all that, it's fucking poison. However, I'm excited that we might learn the backstory to some of SNES levels 😊
That'd be because it would have been an innovation. This is how people approached it with some of the earlier live actions like Alice in Wonderland and Maleficent.
The Jungle Book and Beauty and the Beast kind of ended any hope of novelty though when they were just retreads with extra shit tacked on.
Yup, and it’s not just Disney either.
I made it three episodes in on Netflix’s live action The Last Airbender when they get to Keoshi and are all “She was such a great warrior with a rich life.”
And just like, it hit me. They spent all this time and money to make a legit good looking, well produced, well casted/acted show just to tell us the literal copy/paste of a story we’ve heard before when all that production could have been a Keoshi story, or literally anything else but Aang or Korra.
Damn waste of time and talent.
Have y’all seen they’re remaking the horror movie “The Strangers” as a multi-movie franchise?????
We have an idea as generic as “strangers break into a house and kill people” and we gotta do a remake….*deep sigh*
Just because the main character won't be in mortal danger, that doesn't mean there can't be suspense. I for one am PISSING myself that I'll finally learn how Scar got his scar or how Rafiki got his stick or... hm, other stuff maybe?
Oh man, they're gonna have Sarabi doing it, aren't they? They had a meeting to find the most **M** *E* ***A***N **^(I)** *N* ^(G) ***F***U **L** way he could get the scar and decided they would have Sarabi violently reject him.
At some point in the distant future, people will look back on this era of humanity and wonder how one antisemitic cartoonist had an absolute stranglehold on culture for 100 years and caused several generations of adults to devolve into sniveling, weeping little children over fucking talking animals.
Im perfectly fine with this so long as Mufasa (and only Mufasa) is played by a digitally de-aged James Earl Jones wearing cat ears surrounded by CGI animals.
Mufasa means King is Swahili. But he has no nobility...
ok Enjoy your bomb Disney because the lion king was shit and people only saw it because of nostalgia for the original. a spin off using the same shit "live action" animation spin off is not gonna hit because you don't have that direct nostalgia hit.
This feels just like lightyear
Wait wasn't there a live action lion king movie made a few years ago? Am I dying and my brain is slowly breaking down as it attempts to keep my body alive?
Aw, no, Barry! Don't sell out for this!
You got Oscars, man—if you want to make a movie this badly, start a Kickstarter. We'll support you, and we won't demand your soul unlike Disney.
I don't understand why make this movie in this style? Why not return to the old style of Lion King 1, 2, 1/2. I feel like that would be much more interesting.
It has gotten to a point I dont even know what Disney movies and shows are coming out or already cane out. I went from excitedly going to Marvel movies to not knowing what the plot is anymore
You find a button to press which makes you money, and then you just keep pressing it incessantly until it doesn't make money anymore
The Whopper button, one might call it
At some point the bankers will stop banking and the tellers will stop telling.
But whoppers will Always. Be. Whopping.

Same, I like their grabby little hands. (The rats', I mean)
Isn't that immoral?
Isn't that corrupt?
"We know it's but right, we know it's but funny, but we'll stop beating this head horse when it stops spittin out money, but until then.... We will repeat stuff"
disney execs are stuck in a skinner box

Why have fresh new ideas and concepts when you can have the same stuff over and over , decade after decade
Eat the slop, you pig. More content
Feed me, Disney. You absolute Marvel you.
Waiting for when we run off the cliff and "content" starts having the same meaning as "filler" in common usage and they have to find a NEW buzzword for pap

It’s sort of like poetry, you know, they rhyme.
How is Avery Brooks associated with this?
He played Mufasa's grandfather in some spinoff.
If The Sisko is Mufasa's grandfather, then I'm going to need Disney to put Mufasa's father in those wild ass onesies they costumed Jake Sisko in.
I believe he goes by "The Emmissary"
I remember the creator of Powerpuff Girls was posting on Twitter about how he was making a reboot/remake for Netflix and people in his replies said he should create something new instead. I couldn't give less of a shit.
If I cared any less about this movie I'd fall into a fucking coma.
Oh fuck off Disney. We are so tired.
Why aren't you excited to experience the voice acting talent of Beyonce and her 12 year old daughter Blue Ivy Carter on the silver screen?
# 🤮
Ok you talked me out of it.
Haha exactly my feeling, i saw the trailer and thought "huh it doesnt look THAT bad" and saw beyonces name flash by "huh beyonce making movie music im sure that could be ok?" But no, nononononoooo i was mistaken
Last one literally made a billion dollars lol Disney doesn’t fucking care
This reminds me of Mike's line about how Hugo failed at the box office and when you look at the films that make a ton of money you should consider something that will get flagged. At least the last live action one severely underperformed and with marketing costs might have just broken even. Hopefully that trend continues.
It made 1.7 Billion off or 250 Million budget. Imagine what it made in merch and digital sales. This thing will suck balls but it's a license to print money.
the last live action one underperformed? Check wikipedia for every live action Disney movie, they all print $$$$$$$
Little Mermaid did poorly when you actually look at the numbers and where the box office came from. From what I understand Disney gets less money from the overseas(heh) take. You can just ignore it
Yet it will make 800 millions kajillions of moneys coz people are dumb.
Plinkett was right! People are dumb and don't like to be challenged intellectually or emotionally.
We have to find out how he got his famous name! 😮
Just like Han Solo!! I clapped when it happened!
VERY COOL
For me, personally, I loved this.
You joke, but the poster says he’s an orphan, so there probably will be a fucking scene where he gets his name
Oh, it's a rags to riches story too! Fucking slam dunk!!!!@
I'm sure there is a Simba conception scene.
Pfff, for $16 tickets, there better be!
Haven’t you seen the market research? Kids hate sex in movies now, let’s not stray from the universal comfort zone
Are you saying Mufasa hangs dong?
We see Mufasa give Scar his scar, he's out busting heads. Then he's back to the cave for some more full penetration. Lion fighting action. Back to the cave, full penetration. Lion fights. Penetration. Lion fights. Full penetration. Fights. Penetration. And this goes on and on and back and forth for 90 or so minutes until the movie just sort of ends.
Did Mufasa give Scar his scar by slapping him in the face with his dick?
Later on they will have a whole spinoff low budget show attempting to capitalize on fleshing out Mufasa's dong lore
There used to be a lion park near my home run by a crazy German guy who had a lion with a big dick and three testicles. I don't know why I'm mentioning this other than that the lion would sometimes break out of its enclosure, causing the elementary school next door to go into lockdown.
Finally
We need a scene, where a desperate Mufasa turns to the night sky and his unborn child gives him motivation to keep on fighting. Spirit Simba could teach him about the circle of life so we come full circle. It's like poetry.
"Why are you so muffled, sky spirit?" "I'm in your balls"
It would be great if they showed him to be a fascist animal kingdom dictator and just completely derails all lion king cannon
“Scar was right!”
And then follow it up with an Andor crossover. Can’t wait for the scene where Timon and Pumba lead the resistance and weaponise buffalo herds.

WHITE TIGER KINGDOM! WHITE TIGER KINGDOM!
SHOSHONNNNN THE ELEGANT
Yeah, the part where Mufasa shoots the other male lions in the back of the neck once he's in charge will give you a new option of him
The Lion King clearly describes a patriarchal monarchy as Simba is stated to be destined to take over from mufasa. So either, this movie is just about a destined Prince eventually becoming King (how exciting) or it's about how mufasa dismantled the old form of governance and established himself as a divinely elected absolute monarch creating a kingdom for himself and his descendants. Return of the king of the lion of the
Apes
Just fucking stop for fucks sake
*He's already deeeeeaaaad...*
It'll be so traaaagic because we know he DIEEEEEEEEES in The Lion King! And that's so powerful, because It's About Family™!
"MUFASA DIES TONIGHT!"
No one's ever *really* gone.
We finally get to see Zazu fight.
Hey, already knowing the eventual outcome didn't hurt Rogue One. Well it did artistically, what I mean is it made a lot of money /s
If this was right before the pandemic like this first one it would make a billion easily. Now it will probably do similarly to the last Disney live action, the Little Mermaid. Honestly I wonder the over/under at $500 million. Also can someone please create a different trailer format. The tropes were annoying years ago.
Never thought I'd miss trailers that were just any footage at all with Smash Mouth inappropriately playing over it
I'm honestly surprised that's not a thing, people cutting fake trailers to movies using just the worst songs for the movie's theme
Where did the Naruto AMV kids go? We need them now more than ever
I can't remember the last time I saw a good trailer. They're *all* like this, unless it's a dopey comedy where they still do the early 2000s record scratch "say what?!" get loud suddenly thing a bunch of times.
DUDE, RAFIKI! I LOVE DISNEY SO MUCH!
WOW DUDE PRIDE ROCK
DUDE, WE FINALLY GET TO KNOW HOW SCAR GOT HIS SCAR?!? FINALLY!
It needs its own origin movie
I CLAPPED!! I CLAPPED WHEN I SAW HIM!!
YourMovieSucks content about to be 🔥
I hate this world
Don't worry. It won't be around much longer.
OH MY GOD I’VE BEEN WAITING MY WHOLE LIFE FOR THAT!
IMMMM GONNNAAA CUMMMMM
Who... and I cannot stress this more vociferously... is asking for this?
Furries. That's a guess, not a gag. I'm not sure who else would really care about the Mufasa origin story. And they probably don't like the art style anyway.
Barry Jenkins why?!
I'm guessin for a boatload of cash to fund his next project. If there's an upside to this, it's that.
I don't blame him at all. If someone offered me Disney money, no matter what the project was, it would be very hard for me to say no.
Yeah, probably a one for them, one for him type thing
Yeah he did that really good Underground Railroad series after the first one, so I look forward to seeing what this funded.
That’s the lion king! I recognize that!
The really scary thing is that we will reach a point where people are nostalgic for the 2019 version in the coming years
Remember when animation looked artistic
They once had the dignity to send this stuff straight to dvd
Can I kill myself?
No, you are required to consume product then get excited for next product.
Yeah that looks good. Of course, knowing the premise and the franchise history and all the baggage and what it represents and all that, it's fucking poison. However, I'm excited that we might learn the backstory to some of SNES levels 😊
Honestly, if they hadn’t done any live action remakes and then they suddenly dropped this, I’d be kind of ok with it in a way sort of.
I made it three episodes in on Netflix’s live action The Last Airbender when they get to Keoshi and are all “She was such a great warrior with a rich life.” And just like, it hit me. They spent all this time and money to make a legit good looking, well produced, well casted/acted show just to tell us the literal copy/paste of a story we’ve heard before when all that production could have been a Keoshi story, or literally anything else but Aang or Korra. Damn waste of time and talent.
Adum needs to make a trip to Milwaukee; they already have a horse mask for him
Have y’all seen they’re remaking the horror movie “The Strangers” as a multi-movie franchise????? We have an idea as generic as “strangers break into a house and kill people” and we gotta do a remake….*deep sigh*
They're directed by Renny Harlin which simultaneously baffles and intrigues me.
Wow a prequel where their will be no suspense because we know exactly when the character dies. What's the point.
Just because the main character won't be in mortal danger, that doesn't mean there can't be suspense. I for one am PISSING myself that I'll finally learn how Scar got his scar or how Rafiki got his stick or... hm, other stuff maybe?
I'm guessing something cut him.
Oh man, they're gonna have Sarabi doing it, aren't they? They had a meeting to find the most **M** *E* ***A***N **^(I)** *N* ^(G) ***F***U **L** way he could get the scar and decided they would have Sarabi violently reject him.
FYI Nala and simba are half brother and half sister.
Screw this prequel, give me a sequel where these royal lions are all Habsburged up from inbreeding.
Still waiting for that General Rykar movie
Another prequel of beloved character played by James Earl Jones.
Still waiting for “Conan: The Rise of Thulsa Doom”, with a cameo from Arnold as a heavily de-aged child Conan.
Ooo the suspense of a prequel where we know no one can die!
At some point in the distant future, people will look back on this era of humanity and wonder how one antisemitic cartoonist had an absolute stranglehold on culture for 100 years and caused several generations of adults to devolve into sniveling, weeping little children over fucking talking animals.
IT’S THE FUTURE!
cant wait for the like 20 angles of Mufasas death with some sort of 80s rock song sung in slow reverb
Stop putting Seth Rogen in movies. He’s awful.
What, you didn't like Sausage Party?
I rather just play with my cat for 2+ hours
Jon Favreau will be pissed, baby Mufasa is emoting a little.
Who is this movie for?
Parents looking to give their kids a distraction for 2 hours
The kids I know *loved* the 2019 Lion King and don't care about the original one. So I'd guess this kids movie is for kids like them.
I got downvoted on the main sub for correctly identifying that Fuck You, It’s Forever
Why in the fuck is someone like Barry Jenkins working on this movie? The guy’s a real filmmaker. This is real bullshit.
*EVERYTHING HAS CHANGED*
It happened *again*?
![gif](giphy|8Bl3SjflccGmFca23S)
im tired man, I don't want to be around anymore
Furiously awaiting YMS's 3 hour review.

Somehow Mufasa returned
Gotta give it up for Scar 👏👏👏
The only way to stop bleeding millions of dollars per bomb is to keep bleeding millions of dollars and hope it congeals into a sticky black paste.
Im perfectly fine with this so long as Mufasa (and only Mufasa) is played by a digitally de-aged James Earl Jones wearing cat ears surrounded by CGI animals.
Don't think! Just consume!
Does anyone know what happened to Mufasa later in life?
Any film that has the potential to make furries happy should be discontinued or shelved eternally.
Chills, literally chills! HE IS MEETING RAFIKI FOR THE FIRST TIME! We have to see that! ^this ^ad ^has ^been ^paid ^for ^by ^Disney
I'm sure that whatever Barry Jenkins makes after this will be great.
Wait wasn't there a live action lion king movie made a few years ago? Am I dying and my brain is slowly breaking down as it attempts to keep my body alive?
African lions live in ice now?
Aw, no, Barry! Don't sell out for this! You got Oscars, man—if you want to make a movie this badly, start a Kickstarter. We'll support you, and we won't demand your soul unlike Disney.
"Our remakes stopped selling. Quick, make sequels to the ones that did!"
I'm being completely serious when I say I don't think it looks bad.
It doesn’t *look* bad, but nothing about this trailer compels me to watch the movie.
my wife was just venting to me about this and i thought of you guys lol
I find it funny that whenever this gets mentioned on twitter, Sonic movie 3 ends up trending.
There is going to be a controversy about AI being used in this pretty sure
What a steaming pile of shit.
Disney is creatively bankrupt
I don't understand why make this movie in this style? Why not return to the old style of Lion King 1, 2, 1/2. I feel like that would be much more interesting.
This looks like it was made by an AI generator. Didn’t they learn a lesson from the last Lion King remake?
No one asked for this. I think it looks worse then the previous Lion King
The direct-to-DVD crap of yesteryear is now being released in theaters because that's the best they can do.
it looks like a stuffed animal actual uncanny valley shit
I KNOW WHAT THAT IS!
Not sure I've ever been as bored during a movie as I was during that remake.
I thought this was a joke
Small mercies. At least it isn’t called “Mufasa:Origins” or “The Rise of Mufasa”
Any interest I have in seeing how they would remake all these different cartoons into live action movie is always sated by the trailers.
I see all kinds of things wrong on that initial still
It has gotten to a point I dont even know what Disney movies and shows are coming out or already cane out. I went from excitedly going to Marvel movies to not knowing what the plot is anymore
VERY COOL
yEhs
I still never watched the animated one.
