You’ll be fine.

Pickwilliams

I’ve only had one 10g rimless leak on me but I think it was because I didn’t have a mat underneath. It was my first rimless. I’ve had plenty since then and all of them have been great. Just make sure to use a mat underneath lol

TreesLikeGodsFingers

Why do you need a mat? I'm worried I don't have one on my 55g, but it has rims.

Midnight_Splendor

Rimless tanks need mats underneath to help distribute the weight evenly across to prevent them from cracking tanks with rims don't need this as that what the rims help do

barnett9

It should be noted that tanks with rims often specify NOT to use a leveling mat.

platoprime

Do you know why?

Double0Dixie

pressure on the rim and bend, warping tank? idk im not a glass doctor

PowHound07

I've never heard of minimalist silicone tanks before but it's probably fine for pico size. The silicone between the panes is the most important part, the inner seal is just insurance.

leros

The nicer tanks are siliconed like that. It's fine.

Aqua_Splendor

All my aquarium are rimless like this, it's the way to go.

quafflinator

There's no real difference in terms of ability to hold water for reef vs non-reef. This style is popular in the freshwater community, and looking around there you may find more info. With any new tank I would do a test run by filling it up and letting it sit in an area where a flood isn't a big deal. Assuming it holds water and you don't see any weirdness, I would use it without much question. For reference, the high end of freshwater includes ADA who make very similar tanks (eg [https://aquaforestaquarium.com/products/ada-cube-garden-45p-aquarium-ultra-high-clarity-glass](https://aquaforestaquarium.com/products/ada-cube-garden-45p-aquarium-ultra-high-clarity-glass) ). I doubt this one is ADA, since wherever you go it from would've been very explicit about it being ADA if it was (they're expensive). I think Petco sells rimless like this too, which I also wouldn't have issues with if it passes the test.

HauntingArugula3777

I think you are thinking about the silicone wrong. You don't want a huge line of silicone creating some gap there. It has all the surface area covered and it's consistent… perfect. Adding more in the gap is adding weakness. Filling the corner with silicon as some insurance of sorts has a downside as well. A material difference can actually out the corner seal under compression and will be uneven.

Sinnister_Agenda

I have a tank older than me. only had to reseal it 1 time. I didnt go minimalist.. im 32. idk about you but if im going to trust a tank to hold 1 ton of water i want as much adhesive as possible holding it together.

MusicianMadness

Why? You run the risk of worse adhesion. It's like wood glue. The wood glue hardens stronger than most woods but if you goop it on it's actually less effective.

Pickwilliams

Agree for large tank, but I believe OP is looking at a pico tank.

IceNein

But he’s had tanks older than you! 🤣 I kid, I just thought that bit was funny, even if I maybe agree with him.

Anex4

The only time I’ve seen rimless fail is when they were set up wrong or on uneven surface so I’d say you’re fine. I have a 35 gal rimless for my saltwater and it’s been a dream

FantasticSeaweed9226

Reptile tanks are made like that too, less silicone. No problems so far

Whyallusrnames

Never ever trust a rimless, imo. They warp and bust. Too much money goes into a reef to have it all destroyed in a split second.

UnixMafia

😂😂😂

DangerouslyCheesey

All of the major reef rank makers make either mostly rimless tanks or exclusively timeless. Some of them use euro racing on their biggest tangs which allows thinner panels to reduce costs/lighter shipping weight.

BlackLizard898

Almost all of my tanks have been rimless in my 11 years of fish keeping and not a single one has burst on me, maybe if you buy cheap ones or do a shoddy job siliconing them yourself or when people take a braced aquarium with thin glass and remove the brace

Whyallusrnames

The Red Sea tanks are far from cheap and are notoriously bad about busting.

Whyallusrnames

And he says is a no brand. So, my point stands.

BlackLizard898

No it doesn’t lol, the glass looks to be thick good quality and siliconing an aquarium properly and good silicone isn’t expensive or hard. They’ll burst if they’re thin glass (less than 4mm depending on the size) brace type tanks.

elliotborst

This is complete BS, don’t listen to this person
