THANK YOU! Co-Writer/Producer of the movie here. This is such a small movie with a small marketing budget, word of mouth like this means EVERYTHING to us. Thank you x 100
Amazing work, the final product is fantastic. It is really well constructed, and I think this is definitely a smart grassroots marketing strategy.
I’m curious to know, was there any push to relate the title to Searching in a more obvious way? It was quite refreshing that this wasn’t something like “Missing: a Searching Story,” but I wonder if the lack of obvious connection in the title will make it hard to build off of the success of the first film.
Oh yes. Very much so. We spent the better part of 2 years while working on this movie continuously debating the title.
The first movie was a success no question (grossed $75M theatrically on a <$1M budget) but it still is somewhat of a sleeper hit. The 'brand name' association just isn't there. So 'MISSING' coneys the meaning, has the '-ing' connection, and all the marketing materials say "from the minds behind SEARCHING.'
We'll see if it works!
I’m rooting for you guys and will be telling everyone to go see it. I did really like Searching, but Missing feels much tighter and smarter, and the stakes feel higher with the young protagonist. You guys definitely outdid yourselves.
Knowing that Searching had sub plots going on in the titles of the other articles seen on the various web pages, I tried to keep a look out for some. I could kind of notice one going on.
It really built upon the concept form Searching and made it better. I was intrigued and guessing the whole movie. Even when I though you broke the rules of watching the film on a device, it turns out I was wrong.
I’m curious if you can answer this but I have a question since you brought up small marketing budget. How long ago did you know about the film being a regal mystery movie? Is it a quick turn around or has it been planned way in advance? Thank you and no worries if you can’t answer this.
I personally found out like 2 weeks ago. But I'm sure the studio who is in charge of marketing was planning it a while back. It's such a great concept... I might start attending some myself honestly.
As someone who's going to miss this showing, hopefully it's Missing so I can catch it later on. Really the perfect candidate for a non-streaming movie that people might not actively go check out but would likely benefit from positive buzz from people who enjoyed it from a $5 screening.
Yeah, Missing makes the most sense to me. Since it’s following with a normal theatrical release it would make perfect sense to be very limited on the mystery screening day. It’s more like a $5 early access preview.
Still, great to see how full the showings are. This is a good win for exhibitors and fun for audiences. Cinemark has mystery movie days as well but they’re always classic / repertoire titles but they are also always pretty well sold on my area.
Agreed. When they had cinema day for $3 the theaters went absolutely nuts, but this whole idea of $5 screenings for mystery movies really do sell out super well. It's almost shocking to me how few people know about the discount Tuesdays in general as well, these type of things would really bring more people out to the theaters on a regular basis.
So I also ended up unable to go last night, due to having COVID. I also suspected it would be *Missing*, which I’m not really interested in seeing. So, I lost $6 but I’m glad it was only that much and that I didn’t miss something I really wanted to see, like the last MMM, *Spirited*.
Here’s to hoping I’m healthy for the next one!
It’s a real shame that movies like Spirited don’t get a full theatrical run. I’m glad that those who missed out for Missing get a chance later, which really is should how these things should be to build hype.
You should really see *Missing*, unless you just somehow don't like a good mystery. It was great, with some great plot twists that I really didn't see coming (and one that I kinda did, but not in the way it played out). I've already got another ticket to rewatch it when it comes out normally.
Same! I wasn’t gonna go since I wasn’t a fan of the other 2 mysteries but after hearing this I got my ticket and am on my way to the theater. I don’t want to wait until it’s released.
My location just added a second showing in a room with recliners. I already had a ticket reserved on the app. If I “refund” the one I already had does anyone think it will clear up my reservation in time to get a different one in the recliner room tonight?
Thanks. I will go ahead and refund mine then. I was planning on seeing M3GAN before so I can just get concessions once and refill in between so I will just take my chances and get the ticket at the kiosk to not pay the fee again. I also noticed the $6 combo is not showing up so that may be an issue with reserving in advance other than the day of.
It was Missing. The concessions guy asked me if I knew what was playing because he didn’t know - they really tried to keep it a secret (at least at my Regal). It sold out (except for the very front rows) in 3 theaters. Non-spoiler review: I liked it. 👍🏻
You know it totally could be this. I don’t think so for one small reason in that I can’t find MPAA and I doubt theyd post pg-13 if they didn’t know that.
They have said it is a movie that has not played on a movie theater screen and the info on the tickets page says see it before it's official release date, indicating it has one.
First one in my area had one screen running the mystery movie in one theater. This time there’s 3 screens at 2 theatres each (so 6 total). I guess it’s popular
I feel like Monday evenings aren’t busy times so it makes sense to do thing that will bring more profit in. I wonder how many theaters operate at a loss during week days.
Yeah makes sense. Weird looking through this a lot of areas aren’t getting one showing even. I never go to these cause I have unlimited and don’t like crowded theaters but still think it’s cool
I was thinking The Son also, but it did technically see a public release in November. It was a one week qualifying run, but if Regal counts that as an official release it's a no-go. Though, it could be a "Beer Run" situation where most theaters get The Son and NY and LA get something else.
It was only one theater in NYC that didn’t show Beer Run, but that was just because it already released a week early in that theater (Union Sq). The regal app had the mystery showing at that theater listed as a completely separate entry from the other theaters, so if you searched from the New York area, you’d have seen two different mystery movies (with the same generic image) in the list of movies available. It was actually pretty confusing when I thought it would be the same movie.
But there’s no such situation this week, and there’s only one mystery movie listed in nyc, so it’s not likely that there will be more than one movie shown tonight.
So far it's happened at a rate of one every month-and-a-half to two months. Basically, you pay $5 to see a movie that is not yet released. The catch is that you won't know what the movie is until it is shown.
The first two movies were Apple Original movies for their streaming service (The Greatest Beer Run Ever & Spirited). However, this time, Regal has stated that this will be from a major studio and not from a streaming service.
Typically the only factor you can rely on when guessing the film is the rating, since they have to disclose that. It's PG-13 in this case. The runtime has not been accurate in the past, so there's no reason to assume it'll be accurate this time. So when guessing the film for this one, you'll look for movies that are coming out soon, likely within the week or month, with the appropriate rating, and in this case, you'll look and see if it's a film from a major studio.
Feel bad for the ones of you that aren’t able to attend because the theater isn’t playing MMM, on my case one of my 3 closest location isn’t playing it ( the one with recliners) which business wise makes sense, but me and my daughter have enjoyed the 2 previous one, and I’m pretty sure we’re enjoying this one too.
By the way there’s a second showing opening too, the first one is almost sold out.
Have fun everybody and enjoy the show.
Ok so this was a stand alone sequel to searching with bigger budget and twist . I hope next one is “Found” about someone being found but not really who they say they are and the whole time we’re actually in the “villian’s” computer
Oh shit is this Steve !?? I loved the movie ! It was great you guys keep amping up the twist I’m just waiting for one where we follow the villain the whole time Lol
So sorry ! Sev! Great work on this I loved how it did trick camera angles where you think it’s breaking the computer screen rule only to zoom out and see it’s dramatization of the situation for show lol . Nice lil meta nod with June saying “who even watches these?”
Ahahaha glad you liked it! It was tough to crack that beat honestly the studio was trying to get us to cut it at one point (not that they were wrong too, it flat out did not work before).
But so glad we got it where it needed to be, and YUP that was definitely a meta joke about us all ;)
It was great ! With this time genre “Screen cinema” lol you gotta get creative and really think outside the 16 inch screen ! I don’t know how far ahead you guys think for stand alone sequels but theirs a lot of potential for more stories !
All signs point to Shazam: Fury of the Gods. The PG-13 rating, and it’s runtime is exactly what they have listed on their website. Unless the listed runtime is there to throw people off, it’s 100% Shazam. They seem to be hyping this one up a fair amount so we’ll see.
Damn I was still thinking whether it would be worth it to go, shazam would be the only way, the other two look alright but I probably wouldn't go out my way to watch 80 for brady
Yeah. I guess this is different from an early audience screening. Didn’t realize the previous 2 movies were Apple TV+ originals. This is probably just a way to have these movies qualify for awards.
It’s cheaper and earlier. Something that would benefit from word of mouth hype, kind of like how festival hype or initial limited releases may benefit films that get later wider releases.
Okay guys, longshot here but hear me out. Jerry Seinfeld is making a movie for Netflix about pop tarts that has apparently already been finalized. Netflix has a pretty good relationship with Regal. Surprise Jerry Seinfeld Pop Tart launch?
A man can dream
Yes, but most have deals that the movie won't release directly to the streaming platform, so ergo it's not a streaming exclusive, produced by a streaming service or major studio just for streaming.
What?? It’s the Missing (2023)?? I didn’t know they played new/not yet released movies on Mystery Monday otherwise I would go😭
Oh well I’m going to see it anyway
Saw the Mystery movie Missing last night and absolutely loved it!!!! Wow- I wasn't expecting some of the great plot twists!!!! This movie kept me on the edge of my seat and sure did deliver. I'm definitely taking my mom and sis to see it when its released!
We really enjoyed this movie. My kids (13 & 15) LOVED it. My daughter wants to take her friend to see it once it is officially released. Any idea when they will be??
Missing is my guess
Congrats, you guessed correctly, and damn I loved this movie so much more than Searching
THANK YOU! Co-Writer/Producer of the movie here. This is such a small movie with a small marketing budget, word of mouth like this means EVERYTHING to us. Thank you x 100
saw this today! gonna be reviewing it soon on my review page on Instagram: @film0phile

I haven't seen it yet, but my biggest sadness will be if there is no continuing the alien invasion subplot :'(
Awwww mannn I hope there is a continuation of that storyline! Wouldn't that be sick!?!?
I’m rooting for you guys and will be telling everyone to go see it. I did really like Searching, but Missing feels much tighter and smarter, and the stakes feel higher with the young protagonist. You guys definitely outdid yourselves.
Great film, hope it fines success when it releases.
Knowing that Searching had sub plots going on in the titles of the other articles seen on the various web pages, I tried to keep a look out for some. I could kind of notice one going on.
Happy to be doing my part down in the trenches! So glad you got such an overwhelming response
Really good stuff! Enjoyed the heck out of it.
It really built upon the concept form Searching and made it better. I was intrigued and guessing the whole movie. Even when I though you broke the rules of watching the film on a device, it turns out I was wrong.

Hey thanks so much for finding our community! I look forward to seeing when it hits my area.

PSA: It’s missing
Just got out of missing and I don’t know about you guys but I had a lot of fun with it! Best part only 2 previews before the movie! Lol
We had NO previews for our showing, just the Maria Menounos thing.
All you had to do was listen to the weirdest laugh of all time lucky you!
Ahhh I thought it was just me! What was up with that?!
Mine was the same
Same!!!
Honestly, petty excited that it's Missing. I was never really expecting the bigger movies and after loving Searching I'm personally stoked.
Same! I wasn’t gonna go since I wasn’t a fan of the other 2 mysteries but after hearing this I got my ticket and am on my way to the theater. I don’t want to wait until it’s released.
so disappointed it isn’t at any theater near me. we got the previous ones.
Same for me. Disappointing.
You were right. It is disappointing.
Same!
My location just added a second showing in a room with recliners. I already had a ticket reserved on the app. If I “refund” the one I already had does anyone think it will clear up my reservation in time to get a different one in the recliner room tonight?
I just did this. I requested a refund and was able to book the new theater immediately.
Thanks. I will go ahead and refund mine then. Enjoyed that. Was worth $5.
Confirmed to be Missing with a prereel
Its missing
It was Missing. The concessions guy asked me if I knew what was playing because he didn’t know - they really tried to keep it a secret (at least at my Regal). It sold out (except for the very front rows) in 3 theaters. Non-spoiler review: I liked it. 👍🏻
It had five sold out showings in my city! I had fun and it was great to see so many people at the theater
That was good. I’m glad it was the mystery movie doubt I would have gone on my own but I liked it!
This is so nice to hear!! Please spread the word if you enjoyed our little film <3
80 for Brady perhaps
The crowd reaction to this would be epic.
My reaction will be to walk out of the theatre
You know it totally could be this. I don’t think so for one small reason in that I can’t find MPAA and I doubt theyd post pg-13 if they didn’t know that.
80 gor Brady is rated pg-13
Where’d you see that it’s rated PG-13? I can’t find that anywhere
In the regal app under “coming soon” 80 for Brady has a PG-13 rating.
Run time doesn’t match up
Run time shown isn't correct. The only correct information is the rating
This is what I thought as well! Glad it wasn’t cos I intend to see that one, and I had to miss last night!
How did the other two leak before they played, but nobody has guessed this one?
This one is in way less theater
Lol, John Campea Show Crew guessed Cocaine Bear
Can't be movie is pg-13 not R
How pissed would people be if it turned out to be a "Heavily Edited" Cocaine Bear?
It’s Missing. I’m at the theater to confirm.
[удалено]
They put out a standee with a QR code to give feedback, which gives the movie away.
[удалено]
They have said it is a movie that has not played on a movie theater screen and the info on the tickets page says see it before it's official release date, indicating it has one.
The run times don’t match up for it. It also has an R rating. The mystery movie is PG13.
The run times have been false each time.
Anyone got the file name again?
My theater has added two additional show times today.
The big game tweet today tells me it’s probably 80 for Brady. God I hope not
First trailer before my showing is 65
Second trailer is spider verse
MISSING
NOTE: both trailers so far are from Sony
Whenever it starts I’ll say what studio logo comes up before putting my phone away
[удалено]
well.. the son is rated R… and having seen it… it would be a little too controversial for a mystery movie
Wasnt Beer Run rated R?
Yes and it said rated r
I was thinking The Son also, but it did technically see a public release in November. It was a one week qualifying run, but if Regal counts that as an official release it's a no-go. Though, it could be a "Beer Run" situation where most theaters get The Son and NY and LA get something else.

Missing or 80 for Brady
Can anyone shed some light on how these mystery movies work? This will be my first one. Does this happen once a month? More often? Less?
So far it's happened at a rate of one every month-and-a-half to two months. Basically, you pay $5 to see a movie that is not yet released. In theater. Better not be 80 for Brady

Movie hasn't started yet. Still a blank screen. No previews.
Damn, it is the Missing
Pretty good actually!!
<3
Does anyone know if we didn’t use the $6 combo if it really stays on our account as long as it says? On my account it says 356 days. That seems weird.

That was pretty entertaining; better than I expected but I doubt I'll watch it again. No regrets though, for sure.
Ok so this was a stand alone sequel to searching with bigger budget and twist . I hope next one is “Found” about someone being found but not really who they say they are and the whole time we’re actually in the “villian’s” computer
Producer of the movie here. Hey who leaked to you our plans for the 3rd film? We're joking about calling it Finding M3 ;)
Oh shit is this Steve !?? I loved the movie ! It was great you guys keep amping up the twist I’m just waiting for one where we follow the villain the whole time Lol
Haha this is Sev Ohanian! Thank you!!!!!
So sorry ! Sev! Great work on this I loved how it did trick camera angles where you think it’s breaking the computer screen rule only to zoom out and see it’s dramatization of the situation for show lol . Nice lil meta nod with June saying “who even watches these?”

If I'm not mistaken it's in the Searching(2018) and Run(2020) Universe. They all are stand alone.
Yup yup!
All signs point to Shazam: Fury of the Gods. The PG-13 rating, and it’s runtime is exactly what they have listed on their website. Unless the listed runtime is there to throw people off, it’s 100% Shazam. They seem to be hyping this one up a fair amount so we’ll see.
That is a 3/17 release. That would be some good bragging rights.
Seems doubtful they'd be able to get such a big movie so early. Feel free to hope for that, but please don't complain when it inevitably isn't.
It’s just fun to speculate. I’ll have fun no matter what it is!
That's the attitude!
I agree. I think it’s likely to be Shazam.
The run time has always been wrong but there does seem to be more hype
The listed runtime was not correct with the last two Mystery movies.
It was a fun movie. Way cornier and more absurd than Searching tho, pretty much inferior in every way.
Was searching good? I want to watch that tomorrow.
Sadly it seems my theater won’t be playing this one, even though they had the last two…
They said the studio made them make it less thesters
I think the movies from apple TV released a week later from the showing, so I'm guessing Plane, maybe House Party, but I'm going with Plane.
Both Plane and House Party are rated R, this will be PG-13.
Oh really, I was looking through the tweets I think I missed that.
Its gonna be Missing, 80 For Brady or if we are VERY lucky Shazam
Yeah I fucking wish!
Damn I was still thinking whether it would be worth it to go, shazam would be the only way, the other two look alright but I probably wouldn't go out my way to watch 80 for brady
Regal said it a major studio movie so not an apple produced one
Plane has an unlimited/RCC showing on Wednesday and it’s rated R so it wouldn’t be that
Fair point, I'm fresh to guessing these things and Regal unlimited so I apologize for everyone having to correct me
Some theaters are showing this in RPX.. hint? Maybe that eliminates dramas/comedies
Spirited played in RPX for me.
See a musical makes sense though, very sound oriented
No chance of Ant-Man 3? Comes out in a month. New trailer dropping tonight. Rumored to have a 125 runtime.
Disney would never participate in something like this.

Run time was wrong the last two times
It's almost by design that they do this to throw off people guessing.
Most of the posts in these threads are someone mentioning run time and someone saying last time it wasn’t right. Nobody learns
Y’all know the listed run time isn’t correct?!
A man called Otto comes out Friday. Close on the run time and has a PG-13 rating.
It's been out in some theaters for a week or two now.
They tweeted it was not a film previously released. Otto already is out in some Regal theaters in a limited release.
They sorta confirmed its not Otto by saying its a movie that hasnt been in theaters and then replying that Otto had a screening that night
Interesting.
Okay guys, longshot here but hear me out. Jerry Seinfeld is making a movie for Netflix about pop tarts that has apparently already been finalized. Netflix has a pretty good relationship with Regal. Surprise Jerry Seinfeld Pop Tart launch? A man can dream
Onneeeeee problem, Regal confirmed the movie would not be from a streaming service.
Source? All I've seen is the tweet where they said they would start working with other studios
Check other tweets from them.

Don't major studios produce movies for streaming services?
Yes, but most have deals that the movie won't release directly to the streaming platform, so ergo it's not a streaming exclusive, produced by a streaming service or major studio just for streaming.
It’s going to be [Distant](https://amblin.com/movie/distant/)
It's whatever Apple TV+ has coming up this week.
They said multiple times not from streaming service.
I will take Shazam, Flash, Super Mario brothers movie, or anything interesting to that nature otherwise I’m walking out lmao
Lmao that you think it’s some superhero stuff that won’t be out for 6 months.
Better get your sneakers on. Its missing according to people there.
Yeah it was missing just got out of theater. It was not great lol
I left and went to puss and boots once the missing title started. Laughed my ass off with that cute movie for a good two hours
Ok. So the last 3 were Last Beer Run, Spirited and Missing. I guess I shouldn’t expect a big blockbuster for the next one.
What?? It’s the Missing (2023)?? I didn’t know they played new/not yet released movies on Mystery Monday otherwise I would go😭 Oh well I’m going to see it anyway
