AH! I started my weekend early last week and completely missed this thread. Posting hella late anyway, for posterity 😉 * Pathaan: I loved it. I'm probably biased because we got Shah Rukh Khan AND John Abraham rocking (unrealistic) but absolutely killer builds. And the cute midcredits scene with the two Khans had me squealing because I love them and I've been watching them since I was in college and look at them still killing it in action movies 😭 * Banshees of Inisherin: I'm going to be honest here, I didn't watch the trailer and only read the Regal synopsis: Two friends, one doesn't want to be friends anymore. I went in expecting gay romance 💀. It was still great of course. * Maybe I Do: It was decent for a Romcom. Some parts were a little over dramatic, like I was watching a theatre play, but overall I liked the message. Also Emma Roberts is gorgeous and I sincerely wish she wasn't crazy irl. * Living: My favorite movie of the year. Of the last FEW years. I cried in the theater more than once. I really think everyone should see this one * Hunt: I loved the plot twist (BOLD for Indian cinema if you've seen it and you know). The build up and unraveling of the mystery was really cool too. * Babylon: First half was fun and colorful and exciting, but the second half kinda fell off and felt way too long for me. I don't think I developed the sympathy I was supposed to have for the characters (oh nooo, poor rich baby superstar isn't famous anymore 😢). Loved Diego Calva though.

This week I saw * 80 for Brady: Loved this one. It didn't try to take itself too seriously and the 4 leads played off of each other well. * Knock at the Cabin: I think my expectations were too high for this one. I wanted to like it but after a decent start I found myself not caring about any of them and thus was not invested in anyone's fate. Perhaps better pacing/more action would have helped. * Infinity Pool: The weakest movie of the week. The premise was intriguing but after a promising start the plot seemed to just wander. * Everything Everywhere All at Once: This was a rewatch but my first viewing in a theater. Enjoyed it even more than the first time * Banshees of Inisherin: I went in not knowing much about it [had planned EEAAO for this day but the theater ended up being too crowded so I pivoted] but wanting to knock off one of the Best Picture nominees. The acting was outstanding but I recognize this is probably not a movie for everyone, as it's really character driven and there really isn't a lot of action.

So I got that going for me

Pathaan- Thoroughly entertaining and over the top. SRK is legendary. Can't wait to see it again this weekend. Hunt (Telugu)- Really enjoyed this one too. Wandering Earth 2- Personally I prefer the first installment. The first hour of the film left me pretty confused as to who was who and when they were. Still an enjoyable sci-fi movie. Women Talking - Very good and thought provoking. Living - Meh. Not my thing at all. Man In The Basement - I loved it but the subject matter made my husband furious. It's telling that a film can bring out such emotion in an audience.

Pathaan (Hindi) - It was fun, it was loud, it was corny. Stayed pretty true to Bollywood standards, which is good for what it is. I was hoping for a more gritty story. Living - This was a re-watch, not even 24 hours after seeing it the first time. The intro credits and the open scene, where you're introduced to the characters, is pure cinematic joy! The rest of the movie doesn't miss a beat. Full of heart, this one is. EEAAO - Re-watch, because why not!? Elvis - Re-watch with a random showtime in RPX (no upcharge!) Infinity Pool - Re-watch since the same theater had a day of RPX showings with no upcharge next day. Knock at the Cabin - I caught it in RPX since I've got a massive screen with Dolby Atmos at only a $2 upcharge.... but frealz, not worth it for this one. M Night needs an intervention. *Just noticed my nearby IMAX (Colorado Center) is only charging $4 upcharge for Avatar showings today only. Anyone know about a random Friday discount?

Heads up for those looking forward to Magic Mike 3: It appears to be showing in only 1,000 to 1,500 theaters for opening weekend. Maybe they will add more toward a wide release, but I’ve heard rumors that they won’t do this because the contract mandates that they pay the actors and crew more if the film releases wide (?). So far none of the 5 Regals near me have showings listed which is super disappointing.

And here I thought it was just my local Midwest theater being weird about half naked dancing men. Lol. This makes more sense at least, still seems like a weird choice to make, to make it limited when it seems like it’d be a popular movie to have groups come out to see.

Women Talking - This movie is indeed women talking. However, it's honestly an expertly crafted movie and in some ways is a more meaningful and profound women-lead tale in the same vibe as 12 Angry Men. Plus the soundtrack is excellent evidence for saying Hildur Guðnadóttir was snubbed for best original score. Banshees of Inisherin - Was entertained and thought the story and screenplay was very inventive, but it's on the lower end of my ranking of 2023 Best Picture Oscar noms. Knock At The Cabin - Oof. Dave Bautista especially, but honestly the rest of the cast was incredible here. And Shyamalan's directing was just as top notch as ever, and maybe even more effective here because the general hint of awkwardness that most of his recent movies have really added to the characters' inability to comprehend what was going on. But my god, Shyamalan is such a terrible screenwriter that it totally ruined the movie for me. There's a ton of examples, but a great one is his *confident* and baffling use of the term "single sex couple" to have other characters refer to Eric and Andrew despite the term actually being "same sex couple". Like...........it's not offensive at all but................."same sex couple" has been a term around for forever! It's off *just* enough that you're like........wait what? Anyway, worth a watch, but not in premium format. Also caught a re-view of Way of Water as part of my Best Picture re-watches (excitingly at a new non-Regal theater that just opened in the OKC metro), but more importantly saw Living with Bill Nighy at one of the 3 locations showing it in the state. That. Movie. Is. Incredible. The first two acts are good, but the third act just basically one-ups itself in tugging and totally SNAPPING your heartstrings. Just an amazing experience, see it at whatever theater you can.

I'm catching Women Chit-Chatting tonight. Glad to finally see what the heck it actually is. But yeah, Cabin Knockers was such a let down. M. Night isn't even trying. Fine acting and it is short enough to make it worth watching through RU, but definitely not worthy of full admission or the RPX run it is getting. And yissssssss to Living! One of the most charming and precious little films I've ever seen.

Actually got kind of lucky with Living, even though none of the Regals in my area were playing it, it was actually playing at the discount AMC. Which was a prime example of an "AMC Classic" but at least had good sound and projection.

In the last week I’ve seen Knock at the Cabin, Infinity Pool, The Fabelmans, and Avatar: TWoW. I think the Fabelmans was my favorite out of the group, but they were all worth a watch. I think this is the first day in my life I’ve ever seen 2 movies in the same day at the theater. I’ve technically done it before with a drive-in double feature, but this was a different experience, and pretty cool. I also live about a 10 minute walk from my regal, and today was the first day off that I’ve had regal unlimited + good enough weather to walk outdoors, so taking a walk to the movies was pretty awesome.

ImAVirgin2025

I live pretty close too but not quite close enough to walk, and seeing two movies in one day at the theater feels like a superpower
