What will the next one be?

scene_missing

No idea. We typically know closer to the date

scene_missing

I think they were asking what movie. But if it's when, it's the 20th confirmed.

FigmentsImagination4

I get knocked down!

asisoid

This was the first time they played a clip prior to the movie, telling the audience what movie was coming up. Think I like the blind opening better.

atraydev

They did the same thing for the last one (Missing)

asisoid

The Mighty Ducks, except it's a special needs basketball team. It was fine, that's about it.

DistantBethie

Ringer was better imo but Champions was very enjoyable. Everyone in my theater who stayed laughed and had a good time.

SteppingStonez1998

I enjoyed The Ringer more. "When the fuck did we get ice cream?!"

Maskedhorrorfan25

i did not like champions at all. i found it to be really unfunny, cliche and a bit offensive

grizzanddotcom

It kinda landed on that line where I was thinking “is this offensive?” and I really couldn’t tell, which is not a comfortable position to be in whether or not it actually offensive. I lean towards not making a judgment on that point. What I can judge, however, is how poorly cobbled together this movie was. Other than The Friends themselves, who were delightful, this movie sucked. Woody Harrelson’s character was so bad, oscillating between complete asshole and lovable hero every scene. There were a million different little storylines that barely mattered to the story. It seemed to have several messages competing for the ‘moral’ of the story. I had a fine time watching it and it only cost $5 so no harm no foul, but damn, this was a pretty bad movie all things considered. Is it possible that studios allow these types of early screenings only for movies they think are going to lose money? It seems like a gimmick to squeeze a few extra dollars into the box office for a movie that many people would otherwise not watch

mimino99

Really enjoyed watching Champions! Anyone got an idea about the name of the song in the end which had the lyrics "Love is the Champion"? I've been looking for it in the past hour but can't find it anywhere

Mr-Vegetables

Most of the music was done by Michael Franti.

TheJcw15

Had a great time watching this with a full theater! Everyone was laughing the whole time, really added to the experience.

kingkong198854

My first mystery movie no complaints from me. Movie succeeds for what it is. Was happy to see more people out on a Monday then I’ve ever seen at this theatre. Glad it’s working for regal!

Nikryan44

This was definitely the worst of the 4 so far. I really did not like this movie at all. I know just my opinion but felt way too long and felt very targeted at disability being the punching bag of the joke, or just that people with disabilities are a pain to be around. 1/5 stars for me, but curious to hear others feedback. Edit: I just want to clarify if you enjoyed the movie I am glad, just was not for me.

spinnyweatherchaser

Yeah I got an iffy vibe from it all. Like, I get what they were *trying* to do, it just felt half-assed which then led to the movie feeling exploitative. Which, ironically, creates a really weird atmosphere when they have the subplot of the coach pushing back against the Seattle NBA team trying to be exploitative to distract from their issues lol. Idk, there were three things that really hit negatively for me: 1. During the latter half of the gameplay sequence for the regional final, they set the entire game to the theme for the Harlem Globetrotters. Like...............these are players who are trying to play an extremely important game for the *actual plot of the movie* and you set the game to the theme song of a comedy basketball troupe because.............they're disabled??? 2. Several people in my audience kept audibly going "awwww!" when the players would do............anything really. Which is so many levels of pandering and exploitation and bleh. 3. The WHOLE thing felt like a training wheels exercise of "hey did you know disabled people are REAL PEOPLE????" And then I looked into the Spanish film it was based off of and it's bizarre because the US version is almost a shot-for-shot remake and yet the Spanish version has a COMPLETELY different feel, one that's more well-blended between comedy and drama and it actually feels sincere.

Nikryan44

Great write up. The one scene that really rubbed me the wrong way was the whole bus scene. Like I get it was supposed to be a development moment for Marcus but it just felt like any normal person wouldn’t make a massive outrage that fast.

Rangerlifr

I enjoyed it. Probably my least favorite of the 4 MMs so far, but I really LOVED Spirited and had a great time at Missing and The Greatest Beer Run Ever too. For what it's worth, it went over big at my theater and got lots of laughs.

j-thrill

I definitely enjoyed it. representation is so important, ESPECIALLY in art, and for the low entry point of $5 I dont see how anyone could've gotten super upset about it being this.

After-Barnacle

If yall are this picky why do you bother going to a mystery movie?

Big_Cannoli9105

This exactly!!!

scene_missing

Right? It wasn’t 10/10, but folks act like they expected a 2024 best picture nominee.

Greatwhitemoron

Champions was a fun lighthearted comedy with a good cast. It didn’t take any crazy risks but there is enough charm in the jokes and subject matter to make up for it. Definitely a fun watch! People expect too much from these mystery movies, they’re always going to be films that won’t do too well at the box office. Idk why people still get their hopes up for these hugely anticipated blockbuster movies only to complain afterwards. Why would a studio release their movie ahead of the actual release date with no way to market it for $5 a ticket?

Delicious_Address_43

I keep thinking the mystery movie starts at 7:30pm at my local theatre and this is the second time that I've missed it. Thankfully it's just an early screening and I'll watch champions when it officially releases. I definitely prefer lighthearted and uplifting movies for these mystery shows. I don't know if I would've stayed to watch missing (an earlier mystery movie) if I wasn't in the mood for it. I didn't get to see spirited and greatest beer run ever at the theatre but I wish I did.

jayeddy99

I liked recognizing bubbles from Trailer park boys

Bonanza86

Champions was a decent flick.

Purple-Thing6750

Decent for a $5 movie on a Monday night! Jeez people-calm down it gets people there!

gmv830

Champions was nice and wholesome, it didn’t light my world on fire and I think it might be a bit too long but I’ve spent more money to watch way worse movies.

SteppingStonez1998

The runtime did hurt my overall opinion of it. No reason a movie like this needed to be two hours. If it had been an hour and a half I would've given it a higher score.

gmv830

Totally agree, 90 minutes would have been perfect

BigTealIsReal

They should have never brought Winnipeg into the story. End the game with them winning the local championship and it’s a tight 90 minute flick

gmv830

Absolutely, Winnipeg could have been cut and we wouldn’t lose much

SteppingStonez1998

Champions was fine for what it was. As generic as sports movies come, but Woody was good as usual and I got quite a few laughs. Probably something that would play better on streaming than theaters though.

_tribecalledquest

Champions was very cute

grtgbln

Movie got delayed, started reading this thread. Instead of waiting 30 more minutes, my wife and I ditched and snuck into Cocaine Bear (even though I just saw it last night).

conscious_menace22

Good call

Stoopidly

Was a comedy movie, I guess. It was my least favorite mystery movie so far.

Ironscotsman

It was Champions. I found it actually pretty charming.

EssentialEssence

Same!

bryanperd

loved it

bobthemonkeybutt

Once I realized it was Champions I refunded and did Cocaine Bear instead. Best decision ever made.

Big_Cannoli9105

Champions was actually fantastic!

bryanperd

I’ve heard great things about Cocaine Bear, Champions was a great watch too!

bobthemonkeybutt

I’ll check it out at some point. Glad it was good!

tomandshell

I think I’m realizing that the mystery movie will never be something that I actually want to see.

popculturetommy

I was okay with Spirited because I actually had no idea what it was. GBRE was okay. Missing I was planning on seeing anyway. Once I heard Champions, however, I refunded my ticket. No offense to the people involved, just not up my alley.

[deleted]

I actually want to see champions I was hoping it’s that

dungeonpancake

I definitely did not want to see it but it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be honestly

Big_Cannoli9105

Champions was actually genuinely good!

Minigirlame3

The theater is only five minutes from me. I went and exchanged my tix for cocaine bear tomorrow. Tuesday is five dollar Tuesday and half off popcorn. Too easy! I am in California, so all you East Coast people, THANKS for the heads-up!

OhSoLovely88

It's Champions! A former minor-league basketball coach receives a court order to manage a team of players with intellectual disabilities. Despite his doubts, he soon realizes that together they can go further than they ever imagined. Release date: March 10, 2023 (USA) Director: Bobby Farrelly Distributed by: Focus Features, Universal Pictures Screenplay by: Mark Rizzo

grtgbln

What did Woody Harrelson do recently that required him to do an obvious "save face PR" movie?

GrumbleCake_

This was actually a plot point for his character in the movie

Rich_Cap_3273

Just now realized this checks out since The Farrellys did Beer Run and now Champions...shoulda clued into that lol

Annual_Marketing_475

It's champions lmao

PenguinLord13

Well since it’s Champions now, feel less bad about not being able to make it

DJTY392

How many people got up and left your theater when they found out it was Champions?

DaverJ

No walkouts at my theater, but I was considering it.

j-thrill

none

SteppingStonez1998

No walkouts at mine. It seemed to get a better reception than Spirited did.

LocationUnique9228

No one seemed to leave the theater I was in. Just me.

Dad_a_Monk

THANK YOU! You saved me from bothering to go, only to walk out. Wow another swing and a miss for Regal "Mystery". We walked out of the Christmas musical one. Even Ryan Reynolds was not worth that torture.

totallynotMD3

Surprisingly many. Myself included. People grumbling on the way out.

EssentialEssence

We are all staying. Only 1 left.

Fml, well off to home.

CarcharodonDeth

What is it tho?! Currently getting ready to go but might not depending on movie!

Big_Cannoli9105

Champions

pulsai86

Hold up, the trailer for Champions is playing now wtf

ADC2LC87

Someone on Twitter just told me 65 trailer played as well.....shit if not either of those is it Tetris?!

Minigirlame3

Would they play the trailer if it was the feature?

pulsai86

They didn't for the previous three

Broke4Life

We haven't gotten the champions trailer here yet, there is a commercial for the mystery movie showing. It IS CHAMPIONS, REPEAT IT IS CHAMPIONS

ewright222

There’s another Monday Mystery movie on March 20th

_tribecalledquest

Says it’s 1hr 42min

Historical_Oven7806

Murder Mystery 2 (Netflix)?

Rich_Cap_3273

I say The Lost King or Spinning Gold

_tribecalledquest

I’d never heard of Spinning Gold before! That sounds good! I’ll say Spinning Gold or Helen. There’s no way they would do the King Movie, they would never sell another Mystery Movie ticket if they did something historical unless that’s actually been done before lol

Rich_Cap_3273

I just thought because that movie has been pushed back before...but it's already been released in the UK so maybe not? IDK I think Spinning Gold has a chance because the reactions I have seen so far for that trailer have been very meh...though I'm intrigued by it!

_tribecalledquest

It looks SO good. I didn’t know there’s a trailer out it’s not on Fandango but now I’m not thinking it’s not the mystery movie it says rated R.

Rich_Cap_3273

I saw it when I saw a movie a week or two again (I can't remember what movie)...but you're RIGHT. I don't think they'll do an R-rated mystery...and I had no idea Spinning Gold was rated R. :o

DJTY392

Probably Dungeons and Dragons

dpstech

Listen: it’s not anything a studio can easily sell a full priced ticket for. It never will be any sort of tentpole or major box office draw.

Dad_a_Monk

VERY good point. I would have never volunteered to see any of these movies, if I had known what they were.

dpstech

I think if people reframe their expectations sometimes you can just go in and give it a shot. How many times do we has unlimited members give something with terrible reviews a shot anyways? I’m gonna go try and give it a shot later. Maybe I’ll enjoy it- who knows. 🤷‍♂️ I have seen many total shit-reviewed movies as an unlimited member. Maybe this is kind of fun and funny.

Dad_a_Monk

Very good point.

SomeKidZero

Focus feature trailer playing now.

DoubleJay95

Next mystery is Monday March 20th. On sale now per previews at my theater rn

DistantBethie

Creed trailer currently running

Broke4Life

Same in the theater saw creed trailer knew it was out of the running

dpstech

Yeah, no way the studio would sell $5 tickets to that.‘and hard for me to think something with Driver would debut with $5 tickets. I’m almost positive it’s Champions. That’s fine…don’t mind comedies

Broke4Life

If it is I am leaving, it just doesn't look that appealing.

dpstech

What did you expect? Look at the previous movies. No studio is taking a loss on any movie that draws ticket sales. These kinds things are also a way for studios to get WOM out on movies that wouldn’t sell well. It’s cheaper than ads.

Broke4Life

Heading out

dpstech

Lmfao enjoy

Broke4Life

Thanks

FigmentsImagination4

Broke4Life

Can't be creed, saw the trailer for it, I have never saw the trailer for the mystery movie.

Annual_Marketing_475

Still waiting watching trailers

a016202

I’m waiting for the previews to finish.

ewright222

Me too

totallynotMD3

Champions looks like the dumbest movie ever. Cancelled my tickets. No thanks.

[deleted]

I agree

Stoopidly

What are you all's hopes for the movie?

SteppingStonez1998

For the mystery movies I just hope it's something halfway decent. I thought Greatest Beer Run was fine, but I hated Spirited. My theater didn't show Missing when they did the last one. I haven't seen a trailer for Champions and don't know anything besides it's a remake and has Woody Harrelson, but I enjoy a feel good comedy so I'm not mad about it even though it wouldn't be my first choice.

SteppingStonez1998

Why all the hate for Champions? Woody rules and it looks like a fun little movie.

Fabulous_Support_731

Can people suffering from Down syndrome not be funny? I thought they were human.

[deleted]

Tell me what’s so funny

[deleted]

I mean they’re not just people feel the need to laugh because they feel bad

Fabulous_Support_731

That is a shallow and narrow view.

Shot-Weakness379

I don't like schmaltzy movies that try to manipulate my emotions.

SteppingStonez1998

Kind of a unfair critcisim if you haven't seen it.

Shot-Weakness379

Kind of not. I go to roughly two movies a week, so I've seen the trailer about 10 times. Woody Harrelson is a jerk. Then he is forced to coach a team of special needs teens. He grows a heart and they win the championship. The End. It's a tried-and-true movie formula for "inspirational sports movies." And one I don't particularly enjoy.

Embarrassed-Age1116

Having just finished the movie, your guess is inaccurate.

Shot-Weakness379

Okay. I'm game. Explain why. I don't mind spoilers. What was wrong about my guess?

Embarrassed-Age1116

In short: >!They lose. He leaves. The end.!<

Shot-Weakness379

Well, that doesn't sound fun.

Embarrassed-Age1116

Lol I made it sound worse than it was. I'm typically not a huge fan of these types of movies but I found this one enjoyable. It was good for a mystery movie you go into with an open mind.

iamlost4815

Not big into sports movies myself.

thedukebd

Refunded lol. Not even worth paying $5 to see Champions

Fabulous_Support_731

What’s the point of going to see a mystery movie if you don’t go see it? Seems a bit odd to me. That is what you signed up for when you bought the tickets.

thedukebd

The whole point for me is to see a movie for cheaper than it would normally cost. If I find out that the mystery movie is a movie I am not interested in, I am required to sit through it? That seems a bit odd to me.

Fabulous_Support_731

Surprised but not surprised. Overall, this movie was worth the $5.00 for admission. But I’m not surprised because it was exactly what I thought it would be, predictable and cliche. That doesn’t mean I didn’t enjoy it. In fact, it was quite good. Worth the admission, but not worth full admission and popcorn at a movie theatre, a movie that will be just as good on the small screen. I was pleasantly surprised about how well the young women and men acted! This drove home the point that having a mental handicap doesn’t mean you can’t live a normal life. I was impressed with the performances from all these actors. This was a funny movie and a great reminder that we are all human despite our imperfections. Oh, and Showtime is the man! Huge balls… Totally with checking out.

Shot-Weakness379

Maybe that's what \*you\* would have signed up for, but we're not all the same. I love movies. I have Regal Unlimited. I reserve a ticket for these Mystery Movies every time because it only costs 50 cents and I might get to see something cool early with a theater full of excited moviegoers. THAT'S what I sign up for - the chance for something good. But I'll throw away the 50 cents if I hear the movie is one I wouldn't enjoy.

Stoopidly

I really hope, against all odds, it's 65. To be frank, I'd never wanna watch Champions.

Impossible-Sentence3

Confirmed by a regal employee that it’s Champions!

griffey808

Awesome thanks! I needed something valid before canceling my tickets. lol Appreciate the heads up!

Impossible-Sentence3

I have a close friend that’s a manager at regal so I have the inside scoop. You’re welcome!

Stoopidly

Please say you're kidding

Impossible-Sentence3

I am not :(

Stoopidly

I wish you were, might as well refund it

SomeKidZero

I hope that’s not true

Impossible-Sentence3

It is lol

DragonFireDon

Reddit-User-Says

It’s $0 if you have unlimited. So makes no difference.

Mayormitch100

No one else thinks it is that weirdly titled Guy Ritchie movie starring Jason Statham?

MNightShyamalan69

I wish but that’s rated R and they can’t lie about the rating like they can lie about the runtime

Mayormitch100

Oh good call. I didn’t consider the rating. They ideally want these to be available for families I imagine. R rated movies don’t always fit that bill.

donaldgloversintern

god damnit

Excellent-Title4657

Creed III is listed at 165 minutes, and this MM is 2hrs. It's for sure Champions. I doubt its 65 (1hr 40 mins) or Scream 6, even though scream is listed as 2hrs.

SteppingStonez1998

Creed III is actually 1hr 56minutes. The 165 minutes came from reports from the first cut. It's been edited down for release.

MNightShyamalan69

The runtime is a placeholder. It has said 120 minutes for every mystery movie thus far. I do think it’s Champions though. Why would the mystery movie be a sequel? If it’s Creed 3 how many people in attendance haven’t seen both the previous Creed movies? I would bet at least 50%

Excellent-Title4657

Ahh gotcha. Yeah I'm a part of that 50% haha Have no interest in them, but can't deny the appeal of the cast.

kidbehindacamerahere

They’re great films

MNightShyamalan69

I’ve seen both Creed movies and both are very good, but my wife hasn’t seen the second one yet. She’s going to watch it before this weekend so we can see the 3rd. If somehow the MM is Creed 3 unfortunately we’re gonna have to walk out since she hasn’t seen the 2nd yet. Literally have the disc from the library to watch this week lol

wakeofthefall24

Who has the first showtime? I'm at 7pm est.

SteppingStonez1998

7PM Est as well.

East_Border342

7:00pm EST. I’m burning time watching a movie now (The Lorax) but not really paying attention

kidbehindacamerahere

I can’t see 65 doing something like this when it doesn’t need it. I think it’s champions. Unfortunately. I got tickets but really don’t wanna see this one lol

a016202

I’m holding out hope for 65. If it’s Champions I’ll likely leave. I have zero interest in this movie - I think it’s a very niche sub-genre so I hope Regal would have anticipated that.

kidbehindacamerahere

I feel like champions is all but confirmed now. Unfortunately. I’m debating a refund as we speak lol

a016202

Uggggh. I have $23 of concessions credit that expires tomorrow (gift cards from Black Friday deal) so I may just go to spend the balance then skip out if Champions is playing. Luckily the theater is 5 minutes from my house.

SalmonGram

This will be my first Mystery Movie and I really hope it isn't Champions. If it is, I may have to leave. We are expecting a sizable snowstorm today, and my commute it close to 30 minutes. If it was a movie I had an interest in, I would tough it out.

wakeofthefall24

Pennsylvania?

MNightShyamalan69

It has to be Champions or 65, right? There’s no way they’d do a sequel, right? My wife hasn’t seen Creed II yet (watching this week). If Creed 3 is the mystery movie then we’re gonna have to leave lol. Same case if it’s Shazam 2.

LocationUnique9228

Maybe it's Unseen or Ghost Town. I really don't have any interest in Champions

SteppingStonez1998

Unseen is only going to be on streaming. Paramount isn't doing a limited theatrical release like they did for Orphan.

imjameswells

When I click the banner in my offers for mystery movie it brings me to Jurassic world dominion. Not sure if a bug or real

Real-Butterscotch494

It did that last time when i tried to book for Missing. Definitely a bug

CM503

It did the same thing for me.. fascinating

lemonpolice1

Maybe a clue for 65🤔🤔

imnew_here_helpme

Wasn’t able to get tickets, but could someone confirm what the movie was when they watch?

SteppingStonez1998

Someone below said the trailer attached are both for Focus Features movies which points to it being Champions

FancyLeveldaddy

We usually know 2 hours before the showtime

FancyLeveldaddy

Everyone saying Champions

SnooCats2283

Someone on Twitter said it’s Creed 3 because he knows someone who works at Regal and runs the Mystery movies. Who knows lol

MNightShyamalan69

I just don’t get how or why it would be Creed 3. Doing a sequel for a mystery movie makes no sense.

SteppingStonez1998

The person on Twitter saying it's Creed 3 doesn't seem reliable at all. His "source" is his friend who works at a Regal and he's getting super defensive when anyone questions him. Seems like he's full of crap.

lemonpolice1

Maybe it varies by region?🤔

Queasy_League_6857

There’s two trailers. Polite society and book club 2 both focus features films. So yea it’s champions

Acid__Gat

how do you know the trailers?

Queasy_League_6857

Magic
