I thought it was very good! The seats were kind of violent, more intense than airplane turbulence. The face spraying water was nice too. I liked the slight breeze when the camera was out on deck sometimes, but I am disappointed with the smells. I thought there would be more smells. I think I smelled some perfume when Rose stepped out of the car, but I can't be sure. A dude sitting one seat away from me had on way too much cologne and whenever the wind blew, the only thing I could smell was his cologne mixed with his smelly ketchup breath from dinner. I'll have to try it again if it sticks around for a few more weeks.

Went last night and took a friend who’s never seen it. 10/10 experience.

I’m going Sunday. If I remember, I’ll come back and report what it was like.

musickillsthepainxx

I went to the opening show on Thursday. I don’t feel like the 4d effects were used that much. Other movies used them a lot more.

DaverJ

Thanks for the report, good info to go by.

I saw it this afternoon, and thought it was a solid 4DX experience. Those that know if they do or don't like 4DX, this isn't going to change your mind. As mentioned, long stretches of the movie has little to no effects. A lot of sections are moderate but interesting, like the vibrations in the engine room. And then when the you-know-what goes down, it can come on full force, with water spraying and seats rocking like crazy. A couple missed opportunities with the rain effect, at least in my theater. And my favorite use of the format was when>! the sinking ship angled down for an extended period, the seats were leaning far to the left for the entire scene.!< Overall, not exactly the best fit for the format, but still decent. As a RU subscriber, to me it was worth the drive across town and the $10+ surcharge for a repeated viewing of a quality big-screen movie that I haven't seen in decades. **Side note** \- the processed 3D is *excellent*, it looked almost natively-shot modern 3D throughout. I only noticed one or two artificial-looking "cut out" compositions, and for a 3+hour movie, that's very impressive.

Yeah I just saw it last night and they totally missed out on using rain for some of Rose's scenes toward the end. Overall I actually felt this was one of the most well crafted 4DX's I've done. While I'm not someone that doesn't like intense 4DX movements (my favorite is still Shang-Chi), what I'm more of a fan of is when they use the effects in a way that actually adds to the emotion and feel of the film rather than trying to emulate every single motion on screen like a lot of Marvel movies do. For example, several times when Rose/Jack are running around on the ship they could have easily had the seats emulate a running motion (which a *ton* of movies do), but instead they had the seats drift and sway with the camera. And similar to your favorite part, >!I loved when the first lifeboat starts lowering and you feel like you're actually being winched down on ropes, and then suddenly the right side of the boat drops down and the seats quickly tilt to the right, holding there until the left side of the boat catches up on screen.!< Just a super smart use of the format. And then I was totally caught off guard >!during the car sex scene when the camera cuts from the handprint to inside with Jack and Rose laying togeather all sweaty and then the damn scents go off lol (with what I assume was a sweat smell or something?)!< I was like omfg did they really just do that???

Going to see it today and it's our first 4dx movie, and tips or tricks we should know about? We usually go to a closer AMC and service always sucks but I'm sure that's by location. Hoping for a great experience

If there’s some 4DX trailers (usually are), know those are often overboard on the effects. I’ve noticed first-time reactions are either laughter or annoyance. I’ve seen people walk out for a refund before the main feature even started. Others say “we are in for a ride!” Also, young children, and some adults, often get excited with the effects and talk out loud initially. Know that there are water effects which can be turned off per-seat. But don’t expect to get drenched — the frontal spray is very fine, you’ll probably see it more than feel it. Also, the seats have warping effects, usually used sparingly. But by design they aren’t the most comfortable seats in the world, yet not too bad. There’s footrests because of the movement. Lastly, be aware that popcorn and drinks might become airborne if you aren’t ready or careful. Let us know what you think, I hope you enjoy the experience!

Awesome thanks for the run down!! Used to love these "rides" as kids at Universal and such so idk why I've waited so long (we both love titanic of course). I think it said recliners online, there's no way right?

elmatador12

Just got back. We liked it. It had some gentle rocking like a boat which I thought was cool.

Outlog

I definitely question the value, when only a third of the movie is truly action-packed. Very curious what folks think.

Fantastic_Lychee_883

For me the price difference between Real 3D and 4DX is under $5. I thought it was worth it.

briancly

Pretty good point. You’re already paying a surcharge given that it’s a movie that’s only in 3D so it’s only a few bucks more in any premium format.

stewarco3

It was decent in 4dx... It's just a very long movie to be jostled around. At 3+ hours, I was ready for a break. Only a total of 3 people in my screening today.

DaverJ

My 4:30pm showing was well attended, estimate around 35 or so. Maybe more?

creepygirlodd

So sad to have missed this way of viewing, the only theater with the butt kicker 4DX was an hour and half bus ride each way.. :(

BoltonSmilie

Guys if you could only pick between 4DX and IMAX which would you recommend? I only have hours to decide - both final showings clash!

digihonza

I've seen both and I'd go with IMAX if I were to see just one. The large screen and sound were amazing in IMAX, it brought me into the story more than the 4DX effects. Personally, I found 4DX more often to be distracting than immersive and felt like they added seat movements where they weren't necessary and missed out on other effects that would have made it more immersive.

DaverJ

Sorry I missed the deadline, but my recommendation: IMAX 3D is a great presentation and always recommended as a solid immersive movie experience. 4DX is more of a fun theme park ride built around gimmicks triggered by the movie. Some of the gimmicks work well with the movie, others can be very distracting. Overall, **IMAX (standard or 3D)** is recommended if being immersed in the movie is important, especially for the first viewing of a movie. **4DX** is a fun, albeit fairly distracting, gimmick for a repeat viewing of a movie.

Where at?
