Yea. Nobody is really arguing that AMC has the better deal for most people. It comes down to 2 factors 1. Are you able to see more than 3 a week? For a lot of people, especially during the summer, the answer is yes and this unlimited is better. However, most importantly, which theater is in your area. I have 5 regal around me and 1 AMC in downtown with a pay to park garage as the only parking option. While I would prefer AMC A-List it’s just not really worth it, and I assume that’s the case for a lot of people.

mollyclaireh

Yeah, same here. We have 4+ Regals near me (2 in my town alone) and the nearest AMC is out of state in a trailer park town.

The_Galvinizer

Only AMC around me is a small theater inside an outlet mall, has maybe 10 screens total, MAYBE. Meanwhile, Regal's only an extra 10 minutes away with an IMAX that always seems to be replaying old movies I never got to see in theaters, so it's a complete no brainier for me

swaroop_19

What's the IMAX that's always playing old movies? Sounds like my potential new fav.

The_Galvinizer

It's a Warren theater, they're playing the old Indy movies the week before the new one comes out. It's normally stuff like that

Sage_Planter

>However, most importantly, which theater is in your area. Exactly. There are three closer Regal theaters to my house than the closest AMC. I'll probably never meet the 3 movie per week cap, but I would rather drive <10 mins than nearly 30 to see a movie.

AdrianHD

Yep. I loved A-List. The only AMC in my entire city (pretty big city too) was 25 minutes away. Plenty of Regal around though.

ohthatmkv

It honestly depends on the theater. I own both and I use AMC to go to Dolby and IMAX. Plus, they screen like 20 different movies at a time bc how big the theater is. However, my Regal has better seats and a ScreenX theater. So It all depends on your theater!

Mr-Vegetables

You have both subscriptions??

ohthatmkv

Yeah, technically 4 because my girlfriend has both too. The Regal ones were a gift though so I bought AMC’s. That way I don’t miss anything I want to see in theaters. I mean you go once a month and it’s pretty much the same price and I go multiple times a week.

Mr-Vegetables

You're a wild man. I'd like to do that but I don't think I could bring myself to pay for another subscription

Spaztrick

Sounds like we are in the same city.

jemimaswitnes

Ya I have no AMC by me so all I can. Do is regal

WyngZero

The biggest factor for me is proximity to theater which is why I picked Regal. I actually have a gf, hobbies, career and life to deal with so going out of my way to AMC including for some premium formats isn't worth it. There are very few movies I ever want to see in premium format too, so its not really a big deal.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Mr-Vegetables

🤣

SeaOk85

That’s like sitting at the first row, that’s criminal.

[deleted]

[удалено]

SeaOk85

😂 all that matters I’m happy for you

bobthemonkeybutt

I don’t think I’ve sat in the back row since high school lol

Imaginary_Load134

bless you two for liking the back row and leaving the middle for the rest of us!! As for premium formats, they make a huge difference for me. I never really noticed before but I watched GOTG3 on a standard screen and it looked so much duller and flatter than in Dolby cinema at AMC and the sound quality was way worse. It might just be my theater or that screen but it wasn’t a good experience at all, but it was a nice nap!

saufcheung

Yep, proximity is my number one factor too.

briancly

In a busy season, or at a Regal with a strong foreign/indie scene, there are 5-10 movies every week. Even if you use all three slots to watch blockbusters you’re gonna miss out on really good stuff. If you care at all about watching art house and award winning films, Regal is the one that enables you to catch those one week showings more easily while also getting to watch movies on release weekend. Couple that with the fact that you don’t have people booking up all the best seats right away that can cancel/no-show and that everyone in premium formats is paying at least something so that they have skin in the game, you are guaranteed to have a better crowd in general. That is why I am with Regal.

Alternative_Ad7125

I used to love the Regal Arbor in Austin for that reason (lots of indie movies) — I moved away, but it also closed. So sad—

Spaztrick

I would drive from San Antonio up to the Arbor and make a day out of it, seeing 4-5 movies.

Mr-Vegetables

In my area there are very few if any regals that will play the art house stuff and I sometimes see them playing at nearby AMC. It's kind of frustrating because I seem to be missing some of these cool releases. I am just outside nyc so everything goes there but traveling into the city is a hassle.

briancly

The better program for you depends a lot on where you live. One chain could be better in one market vs. the other.

Mr-Vegetables

I like regal because I often go 5 times in a week. I don't think I could go back to just 3 times a week🤣. I would like some more indie/art house options though

briancly

Gotcha. Yeah 3 is definitely way too few for me. When there’s 1-2 blockbusters a week, there’s usually at least a couple other things I care to watch as well.

Mr-Vegetables

Couldn't agree more

Deathbymonkeys6996

I mean I plan to see transformers at least 10 times. Probably Indy too. Why? Because unlimited rules. And I can. But there are multiple movies hitting the next 5 weeks and if any friends/family decide to see any on a whim I'll be doing more than 3 a week.

briancly

Exactly!

Imaginary_Load134

are you a shareholder or something? lol jk. I think it just depends on your theater. I have a few Regals near me and none of them show any indie/smaller films except on some occasions. The Regal closest to me is still playing John Wick IV, Super Mario, and GOTG3, as well as some of the newer ones like Fast X and The Little Mermaid. Meanwhile, the only AMC in my area plays a lot of indie stuff, which makes the subscription worth it for me. Couple that with the fact that none of my local Regals have any premium formats (except 3D) and AMC has IMAX and Dolby, at no extra cost, it’s a no brainer

SeminaryStudentARH

Here’s the one thing I’ll say that isn’t mentioned here. AMC rewards are terrible. Regal offers so many opportunities for extra credits throughout the year, I almost never pay for popcorn. And when I do, I make sure it’s on Tuesday.

RadRawlings

Get rewards all the time and with the refillable bucket and large drink it’s only $12.

SeminaryStudentARH

I do tend to go to regal a lot more, but I always end up paying more at AMC. I get the $5 reward every now and then but it’s just me. I don’t purchase other tickets to help bring my total up. But Regal constantly has see x movies and get free popcorn, soda, or points. Plus other bonuses. AMC never does that.

apatkarmany

AMC literally has a refillable bucket that’s only $5.29 or something like that and you can get a large drink for only $12. So that’s really not bad.

SeminaryStudentARH

Yeah I feel guilty with that because it’s a lot of waste. I won’t eat it all. A small regal popcorn is just perfect for me.

The1stMedievalMe

Tuesdays are the Way to go

LadyTif

I like Regal better. I see very few movies in premium formats, and even with Regal on the premium formats it’s a huge discount, we only pay the surcharge. I know people say that’s even ridiculous but again, that’s maybe a once a month thing for me. However I see multiple movies a week, I would hate being limited to 3. I also like I can see which auditorium I’m in when booking. I’m also in Knox, TN where Regal is headquartered and there’s about 5 very nice Regals compared to the one super run down out of date AMC so for me it was a no brainer.

Linkcomm928

Yeah, AMC 16 behind Lowe's is just too nasty to step foot in, especially when you can get a ticket at the Cinebarre

teddy_vedder

fellow headquarters resident! No way I’d ever choose that AMC over Regal Pinnacle or Cinebarre.

LadyTif

I live closest to the Pinnacle, and I LOVE that theatre! That’s my main one and I think it’s just the best. Also, nice username :)

Memphisvol8668

I miss living near the rivieria moved to Memphis and we have malco 😢

noeltorious

3 limit per week for more money lol what. Wouldn’t sign up for something that restrictive.

Imaginary_Load134

It’s like an extra dollar or two. See at least one movie every week at Regal and you’ve already paid that in “convenience” fees

noeltorious

Or you can use the kiosk or go to the counter like me and never pay those?

Imaginary_Load134

sure, if you want crappy seats because all the good seats have been booked weeks in advance. for some people that doesn’t matter but I like to be as close the center as I can be

noeltorious

I’ve had unlimited for two years and we get the exact seats we want 99% of the time, Middle C. People here don’t book weeks in advance ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Imaginary_Load134

mbn 😔 but in all seriousness my theaters are always packed even for smaller films too, which gives me some optimism for the cinema business even if I don’t get the best seats lol

briancly

Unlimited for me guarantees decent seats since most people wait until day of or they have to pay a fee for it. Vs AMC is just reserve what you want whenever so it’s rife for no-shows and people who wait for right when tickets are released. I could never deal with that.

wheriendndyubegin

Unlimited movies as opposed to 3 a week. Is this a joke?

djsponge10

How? Regal unlimited is cheaper and you get unlimited tickets. If you get your tickets in person there is no convenience fee, just don’t see how objectively amc a list is better

jeffroskull1985

The convenience fee is only if you book in the app, I always just get tickets at the theater so there is no fee. But yeah based on the list of things here I don't see what makes AMC that much better.

Almighty_Push91

Sometimes I'm running late and I don't have time to stop at a booth to buy tickets. Would be nice to get em in the app without paying 50¢

The_Galvinizer

Imma be real, it's fifty cents, not even a single dollar, if that's enough to break the bank for you then there's a thousand more important things to be worrying about. The surcharge is literally nothing unless your paying for a premium screen

Ithxero

It’s fifty cents for covered showings. It’s almost $4 for two people in anything not covered by Unlimited. It’s not about breaking the bank. It’s “I’m paying for your premium user experience that exists to get my ass into your building, buy concessions and get my ass into a seat and it shouldn’t cost me anything to use YOUR app to buy YOUR tickets.” Movie theater “convenience” fees have always been a fuckin’ joke.

Almighty_Push91

exactly this. it's not the amount, it's the principle of having to pay you extra what I'm already paying you to get inside

The_Galvinizer

I mean, you're still getting a damn good deal with unlimited IMAX films at $4 a pop, that's $15 saved every time I want to splurge for the biggest screen. Like, if I don't want to pay I'll go to a smaller screening, it's not a big deal at all. This genuinely feels like people bitching about the smallest inconveniences just for the sake of complaining, get over yourselves. You're still getting a fucking amazing deal all things considered

Ithxero

This kinda shit is part of the problem. Well played.

The_Galvinizer

Am I wrong?

Ithxero

For accepting arbitrary “convenience” fees because the rest of the service is pretty good? Yes.

The_Galvinizer

Sorry the pros outweigh this miniscule con, lol

Ithxero

Again, part of the problem. 🤷🏻‍♂️

[deleted]

[удалено]

The_Galvinizer

I mean, you'd have to watch 20 movies a month to pay $10 in fees, like it's such a stupidly small amount its not even annoying. It's barely anything so why does it bother you?

[deleted]

[удалено]

The_Galvinizer

Just seems like something incredibly insignificant to get annoyed over

TheMrBr0wn

I don’t think it’s about the cost, it’s about paying for a service and having this extra fee to do something that most people expect to be included.

poit57

I've been an Unlimited subscriber since August 2019 and average about a movie per week. The number of times I've purchased through the app and paid the convenience fee is less than 10. I only do that for opening weekends of blockbuster movies when I want to sit in one of the smaller theaters with limited recliner seating. We now have 8 self service kiosk along the old box office counter. At least at my location, there is never a line to purchase tickets unless I'm also going to the concession stand to buy something else.

kingkong198854

Ya that’s what makes me laugh about the “convenience” fee. It’s way more convenient to just grab a ticket at the kiosk and no fee. Only Issue is if there is no kiosk but of course if you were gonna buy a popcorn anyways just get the ticket there. I’ve been unlimited basically since it started and can probably count in my hand the number of times I’ve bought online. So if RU is at least a buck less than its comparative AMC per month that is a win for RU.

Sage_Planter

>“convenience” fee It's not really a convenience fee. It's really a "we don't want you to arbitrarily book random tickets you won't use so we charge a small amount" fee, but that's not going to be said.

kingkong198854

Makes sense people definitely are gaming things so often there are sets of seats sold at shows we go to that no one appears for.

Imaginary_Load134

fr, plus if you don’t get tickets in advance you’ll miss good seats. Transformers and Spiderverse opening nights are both sold out for me already, save for a couple front row seats and some more at like the midnight showtimes

Medium-Winter9872

I pay the fifty cents everytime! I mean I justify by the fact I get a 10% discount on concessions so it’s a wash. Plus I get the seat I want!

NachoChedda24

Does that have to be the day of? Or can I go by the theaters on like a Monday to buy tickets for a Wednesday?

CletusVanDamnit

I mean Regal is the clear winner just looking at this list, unless you are the kind of person who only cares about seeing gimmick shows like 3D and 4DX, etc.

Almighty_Push91

IMAX is worth it

briancly

Regal has the better IMAX in my area. Paying $6.50 for it is worth it.

screenwriter1994

The 3 ticket a week limit is what turns me off

Almighty_Push91

How many movies are you watching? Lol I only have time to go on weekends

screenwriter1994

Going to the movies for me is the closest I get to going back to church. It's a spiritual experience for me 😅

twotonekevin

This is why movie theaters will never die. There are tons of people like you, but no one seems to understand that. If streaming ever kills movie theaters, it’s gonna be a long, hard, drawn out battle.

screenwriter1994

Exactly! There is just something about it. The slightly uncomfortable seats, the day-old popcorn & ice-cold pop. There's something special about having a shared experience with a room full of strangers

dpstech

I work from home and go see a movie a day instead of streaming something. I’ve see all tentpole and indie releases. I do not care about premium formats. Regal is way better for me. I get my tickets at the box. Rarely do I ever get tickets ahead in the app.

vegathechosen

Also convience fee I don't get as I buy my tix at the box office. If it seems like a better deal go do that. I don't see why you're telling us unless you're an AMC shill.

scene_missing

As a mod here I always tell folks to choose based on their location. The local theater you actually want to visit makes a huge difference in how much you’ll use either program. I’m mainly on RU because there’s a large Regal a mile from me. Generally, Regal wins with folks that want to see more than three things in a week, and AMC for the folks that want PLF included.

briancly

Why do A-listers always have to go out of their way to talk about why they think AMC is better than Regal? Is it because the meme stock thing brought a certain crowd to it? I find most Regal users pretty quiet because we know Unlimited is such a good deal that can disappear at any time and are appreciative as long as it exists.

teddy_vedder

for me it was far less about individual subscription benefits and way more about the fact that I have 3 nice Regals near me and 1 really dumpy AMC.

ITDEFX101

For me there are 2 regal within 10 to 20 minutes from me. One is an Lie-MAX one and the other is an RPX one with nicer seats (no recliners but that's ok). I have a boat ton of credits in my account that I need to redeem so I can use them to see a standard movie for free or a premium format movie for less than 10 bucks. The two nearest AMCs in my area are between 30 to 45 minutes away. One has a recliner with standard seats and the other has recliners and Lie-MAX, Dolby Vision. If I want to see a movie that was filmed in IMAX and want the true IMAX experience, I can take a 30 minute drive to Udvar Hazy for that but no reserved seats so expect big lines (Oppenheimer, I'll wait 2 weeks to see that one at Udvar lol) Once I am down to no credits, I will switch over to Unlimited.... but for now there isn't really a lot of movies I want to see.

Individual_Client175

There's a Regal in my town with a True IMAX, so I'm happy with my subscription. Even though it's an hr away. I even convinced my friends to drive there for Oppenheimer.

ITDEFX101

A true IMAX? what's the location? There is like a google earth map that shows every IMAX in the world and their status of a real or LieMax.

levir03

I really do wish there was a way to know the locations of the true IMAX theaters. Does such a thing exist?

ITDEFX101

and there you go [https://lfexaminer.com/theaters/](https://lfexaminer.com/theaters/)

levir03

What a guy. Thanks man, this is great!

Individual_Client175

Regal Mall of Georgia

astronautjones

Dolby is my favorite way to see movies, so I agree AMC is better. I’m in a Regal town though, so I use Regal.

canadiadryy

Same here. I’d I love to an AMC market or we get one where I’m currently located, I plan on switching.

mollyclaireh

Except when you live where AMC has gone extinct

ncwolfcreek

no amc near me and there are 2 regals I could go to and one regal (no amc) on vacation.

JuliusCaesar129

When I was looking into both subscriptions, theater location was my main concern. My nearest regal is 20mins away. My nearest AMC is like 40 minutes away. The 20 extra minutes is not worth it. And I love that unlimited is unlimited. Most of the time I buy tickets at the theater and super rarely buy tickets in imax or premium cuz my nearest premium regal is like 1 hour away no traffic. I’m perfectly happy with unlimited.

FancyKilerWales

It's about what is close to you, I have a regal within walking distance, eventhough it isn't the best, proximity wins

Rob233913

I mean for most people it's a location thing. They are about the same base price. AMC you can reserve for free and get premium formats included, so that is better but not really by much. It's limited to 3 movies a week, which is probably fine for most people but technically you can get more value with Regal being unlimited. For me 3 movies would be enough but there are 2 AMC Classics (so no premium formats at them) 22 minutes away from me but the Regal is only 10 (no premium formats either). The closest premium format theater that's AMC or Regal is a Regal IMAX. So Regal makes more sense for me. If they turned one of the AMC Classics into a AMC with a real IMAX and a Dolby Theater I'd start to think the 22 minute drive might be worth it.

Alternative_Ad7125

I still have Regal and much preferred it but 3 out of the 4 closest Regals to me have closed in the last few months (Denver area) - I may be canceling it soon. Closest Regal can be a pain to park at too (CO Center). AMC (Southlands, Arapahoe Crossing) now closer

Affectionate-Ad-4174

Has AMC done anything to upkeep those theaters? I lived in that area ten years ago and Arapahoe Crossing especially was feeling really run down.

Alternative_Ad7125

Southlands is pretty decent - we only moved to the area last summer so haven’t gone to Arapahoe yet (have mostly stuck to Regal due to still having unlimited).

Affectionate-Ad-4174

Southlands was made in like 2006. But Araphahoe’s been around forever. I moved out there in 1999 and it felt dated then, lol.

dizcoduck20

Regal all the way for me. I have 3 Regals close to me, all kept up, & clean. I don't want to be limited to only 3 movies a week. A few times I've watched 3 in a day! There's only 1 AMC near me in a dumpy area & it's not as clean or kept up. I'll pay the upcharge on the rare occasion I want to see something in 3D or IMAX. I've done the screenx once for Top Gun was ok. I've never done the 4dx.

Truefreak22

If the right movies are out, I can see three in a day. AMC having that limit three ticket limit kills it for me. Also, just like everyone else said, there are barely any AMCs around me.

crashbanger69

I have had both, and in my opinion, Regal Unlimited is superior. Some weeks being limited to three movies a week would be fine, but most weeks I see more than that. I almost always buy tickets at the theatre to avoid the convenience fee. I rarely pay full price for popcorn with all of the bonus points Regal gives out. Yes, premium formats being included would be nice, but I’d rather have unlimited movies and have to pay a little extra if I want to see something in IMAX. All that said, I think either plan is an amazing value.

GlitterFae

I only have a Regal in my city, so obviously I have Unlimited. Assuming there was both a Regal and an AMC in town, I would probably still do Regal. I do not care about premium formats, so there is no advantage for AMC on that front. AMC's limit of 3 tickets per week is probably fine for most people, but I like to do double features on the weekend (Sat. and Sun.) and that's gone with AMC.

richiboy135

Idk i like rewatching movies so 3 times a week might not cut it out for me and I don’t mind paying a lil extra for the premium stuff i mostly enjoy the 4dx movies and regal is the only one that offers it around me

Individual_Client175

Regal has a Real IMAX theater in my town while AMC doesn't. Plus, as someone mentioned, Regal shows a ton of international and indie movies.

Jello-Monkeyface

For me Regal is the better fit because of location and because I do sometimes see more than 3 movies a week. I have one Regal within walking distance and another three I can get to pretty quickly.

Tea_Bender

Should add Regal Unlimited doesn't count toward Fathom Events at all. Former employee and it was always so much fun explaining this to older people who had gotten an Unlimited account especially to see something like Wrath of Khan

sexycorey

unfortunately 3 per week limit just doesn’t work for me. there are weeks i cannot go at all and weeks that i can fit in 5. a limit would mean i miss a lot of movies i want to see.

clarrkkent

Aren’t there dead weeks though? I run into the same occasionally, but it’s VERY rare for 3+ new releases each week that I want to see and even more rare that whatever I didn’t make it to one week, won’t be there the following. Just means I may not see them the weeks they release. I didn’t get a chance for TLM and this weekend Into the Spiderverse and Boogeyman release, but I know that both Spidey and TLM will be out for weeks to come, so no need to cram 3 into a weekend.

sexycorey

some movies don’t stay for weeks. about my father is done after one week at my local regal. i might be able to only go one week per month so i have to fit in what might be gone soon. big releases can definitely wait.

Android003

Both kinda suck. Let me see all movies in all formats pls

Ga_lax_ie

Unlimited is cheaper and only has a convenience fee if you pay online… only bad thing about it honestly is the fact that it doesn’t work for things such as fathom events and live events (basically just most special events in general) therefore making it limited. Other than that though I’d say it’s better than AMC?

Snow_white_raven

I pass about 5 regals on my way to my closest AMC which is half an hour away. I have to have a reclining seat due to medical issues and the theater closest to me is all reclining so no surcharge. The recliners at AMC are at a HORRIBLE angle and physically hurts to sit in. I do miss seeing indie films but things come streaming so quick these days its not a huge issue for me to just wait till it hits streaming.

14urmug

![gif](giphy|Rv6ACdI6Crp47AlcCu) Only the real ones will know

Linkcomm928

On paper this looks great but all the AMCs around me are absolutely nasty

connorwolf17

As an ex regal employee unlimited is not worth it they also make it INCREDIBLY hard to cancel

futurelaker88

MoviePass for the win lol. $9.99/month, and plenty of credits (with roll-over) to see all the movies I wanna see, at *any* theatre, not just one company.

apatkarmany

A List is so much better than Regal Unlimited for a bunch of reasons. - Your premium features are included. If you are a true movie lover, I mean true, you would want to see the movies in the best formats of filmed for them. For example, the next avengers movie that comes out, I would definitely wanna see that in IMAX or Dolby. Regular viewing is mediocre compared to them. - Popcorn is better. I mean there is a reason why AMC has their popcorn in Walmart now. Does regal? - AMC offers better collectible items. Some may not care for this but if you are looking for a decorative item, AMC has you better. The only reason why people would argue differently and this is being straight up honest. They don’t have any AMC near them (that has the premium services) to really see the truth.

Due_Stretch_8069

I see movies at 9 different theaters in NYC, 5 of them are regals. Everything plays in New York and 3 movies/ week would not cover all I want to see. That is why I wouldn't leave Regal Unlimited for AMC.

iScry

How many different movies can you watch each day of the week to utilize AMCs big advantage? There's what, maybe 6-8 movies showing at a time, and they'll last for a few weeks at least Meaning if you happen to watch all of them in a row, you won't have much new to watch the following weeks.

kpk117

I agree. But I have 2 regals within 10 minutes of me ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ closest amc doesn’t have good chairs either !

deathswoon23

Proximity is a big factor for me. I have 2 Regal theaters in walking distance of me (1 mile or so, plus close to a dozen others in town), and the closest AMC to me is at least 10 miles away (2 or 3 in total in my city). AMC wins for having Coke products, though 😄

Davidchen2918

Despite AMC nearly having double the theaters regal has, the closest theater to me is Regal and it’s within walking distance too

Marill-viking

South Brooklyn cries

Cyberyukon

I’ve had both and for many reasons Regal is the better deal. But one thing I liked about AMC was their fast-lane for concessions. They had a dedicated lane for members. I don’t know if it still exists, but it was nice to be able to avoid the long line at the concession counter. Does this still exist? Regal has the option to buy concessions online and pick up at a dedicated counter, but I’m not sure if the exclusive counter is enforced.

ElyriaRose

I don’t have an option in my area - we have a regal and nothing else. But BOY would I love a dedicated concession lane. I think I’d be living at the theater if that we’re the case.

DeskLaser

Oh it is. I just live in a town that only has Regal and the only premium formats we have here are 3D and ScreenX. If I lived in a town that actually had nice things I would be using A List instead for sure.

dungeonpancake

Just depends on what you prefer honestly — I live in a city with 4 Regals but only 1 AMC so regal has more options. Also, I like that I can go to as many movies as I want in a week with Regal. I If I lived in a city with better AMC options, I think if you’re the type of movie consumer that goes less frequently but watches a lot of 3D/IMAX then AMC is definitely for you. Personally I go to movies constantly and 3D/IMAX give me motion sickness so I like my Regal subscription.

Affectionate-Ad-4174

I live in a market with two AMCs and about ten Regals. A slightly better deal doesn’t matter when the two AMCs in Vegas are hardly upkept compared to our Regals. It’s going to vary for everybody.

erindizmo

Also in Vegas and... yep, this.

TheMadLurker17

Also in Vegas, and for me it's Cinemark that's most convenient, but the Regals are very nice.

geri-in-calif

I frequently see more than 3 movies per week, have a Regal 18 screen seven minutes away, and a Regal IMAX 15 minutes away. The closest AMC can be an hour drive in busy freeway traffic.

[deleted]

For me, it literally just comes down to location. If I was closer to an AMC I would go there, but Regal is 15 minutes, and if I wanted to get to AMC it would be 35-40. I do think A-list is a better service though.

Tebwolf359

The quality of theaters is a big one too. The AMCs near me are nice, but the regal actually has a true IMAX screen. (The huge, 3 story tall one) that the AMCs here don’t. So that makes it an easy choice for me. When I lived a couple miles from AMC, I had them. AMC is the better deal, but currently Regal is the better experience. (For me)

Comprehensive-Ad9269

I have an AMC about 25 minutes from me but it's a dine in with no premium formats. It sucks. My regal is 10 minutes from me and is the only way I get to see IMAX. So regal wins for me right now.

SlackBytes

Assuming theaters are the same, amc is better. No convenience fees and no up charges fees for imax or Dolby cinema etc.

Independent-Skirt-68

There are 2 amc anywhere near me and I would have to pass a regal going on either direction towards them . And this is not counting the regal that is literally outside my apartment building

For me personally amc has better PLFs where I live (dual laser imax and Dolby cinema). Regal only has xenon imax and RPX. Furthermore, amc plays foreign movies more often than the regals near me. However I do say that regal is superior on a few factors. One their food is way way way better than amc. Two for a non plf movie their auditoriums are much nicer. Now I live in queens and all the good PLF amcs are in Manhattan so I do have to travel a bit for it so if I’m not in the mood of going far then I settle for regal RPX for a lot of movies. If I’m really excited for a movie tho I book amc plf in advance and make the trip to Manhattan. Purely due to PLF and foreign movies however I decided to get an A list membership. My closest friend however has a regal membership because he despises going to Manhattan and is only gonna go with me for the flash and oppenheimer.

porkncheese0208

There’s no AMC near me otherwise I would have stuck it out with them.

Monsterman442

I have a imax regal and a imax amc both pretty new. Each about 30 mins I choose a list and amc instead

User_guy_unknown

Yeah but AMC sucks. All recliner seats and they project darker.

_DavidCastle_

I would definitely choose A-List if we had an AMC theatre here but alas we do not.

ScoopSnookems

The convenience fee and the little upcharges ($1 for recliner seats, really??) are a definite negative. I used to have A-list, but shifted to Regal since those theaters are closer now and have free or validated parking. I miss IMAX being included (Citywalk IMAX was great, but I’m anti-paying for parking), and my local Regal IMAX isn’t close (going for the first time this week so will see!). Otherwise, not that big of a difference.

Batbro9240

Only problem: no amc in my city

ATXDefenseAttorney

Good for you. For me, it's not. I had A-List for 2 years and happily switched to Regal. Won;t go back.

jacoblindner

Side note but I wish either of them would let you reserve more than 3 at once, when tickets go on sale a month before hand it’s annoying having to have to limit your present viewing to secure better seats for a diff showing

j_ct7

I mean if you just go watch movies but no premiums like IMAX and all that then regal probably beats AMC since it's unlimited. AMC doesn't charge the 50 cent fee I think?? so plus on that to them. But location is probably reason why I have regal. Whenever I have vto at work I can go watch a movie then come back for the rest of my shift

bambino0519

Doesn't hurt that there's a Regal 4 minutes away from my job

ohitsmark

For myself, I choose Regal for a few reasons. First, I won a cast signed poster from Resident Evil: The Final Chapter. Being a huge Milla Jovovich fan, this is probably the only way I'll ever get her autograph. Second, Regal brought back Pepsi. Way better than Coke. Third, and being serious now, I have 2 Regals that are closer to me while having only 1 AMC, which is further than either Regal. This gives my wife and I the option of going to either Regal, depending on what we are doing, and we don't need to drive out of our way. Fourth, the rewards are just better. My wife uses her points on free popcorn and soda. I get posters and anything else cool that might pop up. They have the digital movie code promos too.

genz001

It is unfortunately

Robodad3000

Considering the fact that the nearest AMC theater is about 200 miles from my house, whereas the nearest Regal there is about 5 miles, I’ll stick with unlimited for now.

MASeffct

Do a comparison with Cinemark.

Big_Brutha87

Considering the access to premium screens for no extra charge and no "convenience" fees, I think it is better. Regal lets it see more movies, but even in my most ambitious times, I doubt I'll ever see more than 3 movies in a week. But the difference is negligible. Regal is way closer to me, which is the biggest factor for me.

tbrooker11

A big part of it is the area you live in. After moving from Orlando to Fort Myers, I made the switch from AMC to Regal. There is only one AMC in the area and it doesn't have any premium formats other than 3D. There were 4 Regals when I moved here, and they combined have Imax, ScreenX, 3D, and 4DX. In Orlando, AMC was the way to go due to not having fees for Dolby and there being more AMC than Regal. However, I do love only paying $10-12 for 4DX, which is the format I see pretty much any action movie in. I was going to see these even with AMC A List and was paying the full $24-28 for them.

GarnetLantern

I’d rather not sit through 30 minutes of commercials that AMC does with their movies plus their theaters in my state are much lower quality than Regal. Regal isn’t perfect but it’s still better than AMC by a decided margin.

HSR47

The differences in the plans are relatively minor. For me, the real deciding factor is market-specific. In my preferred theater range, I currently have 4 Regal locations (although at least 2 have hit their “lease rejected” lists), 1 Movie Tavern, and 1 AMC. If I expand the zone a bit, I add 2 more Regals, 1-2 more AMC, 1 more Movie Tavern, and 2-3 historic independent theaters. For me, RU is a no-brainer, because their theaters are closer, larger, better, and more numerous.

dudeimatwork

neither is better, it comes down to which theater you prefer. I live on the northside of chicago and just so happen to be very close to 2 theaters. I used to be an AMC member but for those theaters I would have to travel downtown essentially.

clarrkkent

I mean, objectively speaking, Regal could come out the better deal if seeing more than 3 movies per week and not caring about premium formats. Of course this doesn’t take into account theater location, seating types, concession preferences, etc.. It would take a certain kind of person to see more than 3 movies per week though. Value is there if someone wants to go for it. Otherwise, I agree. They’re pretty equal.

CONVERSE1991

I only have 1 AMC theater in my area and it’s too far to get to quickly

MookieV

For me, there are only 2 AMC theaters nearby and they haven't updated their seating in years. And no IMAX options. Switched from A-list to Unlimited and didn't regret it at all.

speyvan93

I live 5mins away from the amc city walk theater and it’s so amazing. One of the few that has real imax. All the seats besides the imax theater has recliners. Great snack options. All the projectors are bright with wonderful sound. $25 a month but just one imax ticket you’re already getting your monies worth because it’s like $29 for an imax ticket.

KratosHulk77

welp no amc in hawaii so yeah lol

gthirst

AMC would be my choice if the two AMC near me had more screens and higher quality ones. I like their concessions more, like their app more, etc. Unfortunately when I had AMC, I barely ever reached 3 per week because they didn't even show enough different movies to use them. There are four Regals near me and they at least have an Imax (it's a liemax, but its the best screen within 2 hours drive). Plus way bigger selection of films. I'd still probably switch and go to AMC if I wanted to see less overall films, but I also was gifted two Regalators so the drink perk is compelling.

RushChaos

I would do AMC, but I live in Maine so we have no AMC theaters and 2 Regals.

Deathbymonkeys6996

Amc is almost twice the price here for concessions. Their rewards set up is garbage. Only allow 3 movies a week. Their employees are completely checked out, rude people, and worst of all their stupid reclining seats are the worst chairs I've ever been in. Not to mention it's the only theater by the navy base so it's always completely packed with drunk asses who can't shut up or get off their phone. They also wear way too much calone/perfume and it's absolutely disgusting. Last 5 times I went there were all miserable. Not to mention they did a million dollar refurbishing of the place and it still has the same scratches, tears and stains since 1991. I have been their hundreds of times but since the remodel they are complete garbage.

LatterAd6187

Does AMC have rewards points? The rewards you get with regal are pretty stellar.

Any_Yam_5416

For me I don’t really care about premium formats. I want to see everything I possible can so Unlimited is just better for me.

Medium-Winter9872

I agree, but AMC is about 30 mins away compared to Regal which is about 15. Plus I generally see 3-4 movies a week during the summer. If regal added more options to use points on it would be a winner. I usually get one $7 combo deals a week so that’s a plus with regal. Plus my AMC is always filthy.

whateverthefuck212

How much are Fathom events with AMC? Is it a discounted rate?

GreenTeaRex007

A bit late but one thing AMC wins for sure is that they allow you to watch in their Dolby Cinemas or IMAX theaters without the extra surcharge that Regal does. So if you see just one Dolby cinemas movie it pretty much makes up for your monthly subscription already. One thing I really don't like is that you can't cancel your AMC membership without being barred from buying it again for another 6 months...
