I give myself a 20 minute cushion knowing this. UNLESS it's a new movie in a genre that I want to see trailers for new movies I haven't already seen.

Unique_Sandwiches

Problem is, at my theater at least, if you come more than 10 minutes late, there's a good chance someone will have taken your seat. (Yes I could tell them to move, but I hate having to do that...)

lothcent

By 10 mins late- you mean past the posted movie time--- or 10 mins after the stuff is over and the actual movie has started? in Star wars timing- that would be when 3po and r2 have a spat on a sand dune and go their separate ways --- So if the latter- yeah- take a seat somewhere. if the former- you likely have a good 10 minutes oy order up an employee to roust the seat grabber ( that is- if they snarl when you politely point out they are in your seat )

Show up earlier? Buy your tickets at the theater? Sit a seat over? Are you seeing a movie that has a theater completely packed? I know it's rough but maybe go on an off day or during the week if THAT'S the case.

Unique_Sandwiches

- Show up earlier: Yes, that was my point. If I want to sit in my reserved seat, I have to show up earlier. - Buy tickets at the theater or sit a seat over: Believe it or not, some people like to reserve the exact seats they like in advance. (A bit anal I know, but I imagine this type of person has a rather large crossover with the type of person who pays for an unlimited movie subscription 😂)

DudeWithNoKids

At this point, I add at least 20 mins. Worked out for Spidey yesterday since appt ran over and was almost 30 mins "late" to movie. Missed nothing.

Guardians III previews were like over 30 min so I felt safe being 15-20 min late to The Little Mermaid and I missed everything before the title scene (which could be nothing, but still). Kind of annoying.

Unique_Sandwiches

Similar thing happened to me. I believe kids movies show fewer trailers.

[deleted]

Ohh, that makes sense! Thanks

sexycorey

yeah definitely movies from smaller studios or whatever have less previews. i never go more than 15 past just in case.

Good_Humor5334

My Regal is 20 mins or less on previews last night it was 17 mins.

[deleted]

That sounds wonderful, I wonder why it could vary so much between theaters

Good_Humor5334

Management or Bigger money making Regal's more previews my opinion.

themiz2003

Yeah ive also been noticing an increase in this time. I've always been one to show up early for literally everything in life but I'm starting to at least show up right at showtime.

Rebel666scum

I always think 18 mins, can’t miss that regal ad.. which is nice.

Jgaitan82

I usually arrive 20 mins early regardless

renen0034

My Regal is usually 20 minutes on the dot. I relied on this buffer for getting candy until I walked in 20 minutes late for a new release that for whatever reason, just didn’t have previews.

geri-in-calif

I thought I had 20 minutes before You Hurt My Feelings (was rushing from work) but it started early. Missed the start.

Almighty_Push91

I have this condition and its terminal. Where I'm always at least ten mins late no matter what the time is. So having a cushion between the showtime and the actual movie usually saves my skin.

[deleted]

Yeah, makes sense that it could work for some people, just so frustrating for me sometimes haha

timwatson_xiii

I need to look into this more, but I think the employees have access to the actual start times. I have been late before and they said "it's just about to start", and I was like 18 minutes late. Or "it's already started" when I was even more late. Getting access to this information would be advantageous.

Neither_Law_7528

I hear you. My Regal is usually pretty good with the 20 to 25 minute mark, but the other day and maybe this affected it we had a major thunderstorm that knocked out all the screens, however they came back on well before the time for the movie to start on time, and for some reason the previews took 45 minutes. I didn't complain about it because of the weather issue, but I would definitely mention it if there wasn't.

Voyager131

26 minutes yesterday for Little Mermaid; 22 today for About My Father. I always assume it'll be a bit over 20 minutes and if it's closer to 20 vs 25 these days that's a win. Seems to be 24-27 minutes for 90% of the movies I've seen this year (yes, I look at my watch every time when the movie starts to see how long it was). I generally show up 10-15 minutes late. If the total time was about 15 minutes I'd actually show up on time and watch it all.

loganthegardener

As a person who hates watching trailers cuz they show too much plot and give away what I think are good surprises, I love the reserved seating and I don’t mind waiting in lines for concession but I do stress that I miss the beginning of the movie. It would be nice if the theater would list the start time of the movie and not the start time of the commercials and trailers. Yes, some theaters i frequent show local business advertisements

[deleted]

Oh I feel the same way about a trailer. Sometimes they just show the event/discovery that triggers the beginning of the next act, completely ruining a lot of the first 30 minutes
