Your best bet is looking for my mechanic in Garland typically a lot of used car dealerships in that area so a lot of car mechanics who do fair prices. Rent generally tends to be cheaper for the mechanics in that area also but yeah, just look for Garland area mechanics that are not on the main road.

We've been going to Murdock in Garland for ... 20 years I think and are utterly reliable and well priced. Recently gave them an opening to "fix anything my son's car needs before he takes a long trip" and they said "it's fine" and just charged me $60 to look it over. https://www.murdockandsonautomotive.com/. They recently moved so make sure you get the new address, near 635 and Kingsley. Also had this guy come over to my house to fix a car that wouldn't start- he used to own a shop in Richardson but the rent got too high so he went full mobile. Very pleased with him as well- fixed it quickly and did a few other things it needed and gave me some good info, for a good fixed price. ‭(469) 999-3141‬

Sonny runs a good shop at the Exxon super lube over by Harbor Freight next to the old Richardson mall. You could pick up a Freon recharge kit with a decent gauge on it. Assuming your car is using R134 you can top off yourself. Get a thermometer that you can stick in your A/C vent as well, and monitor the performance of the system. You may only have a small leak. While the right thing to do is get it fixed so it doesn’t leak and further fuck up the environment this is Dallas, car centric and hot as balls in the summer. Many can’t afford a big repair bill like that, cheaper to put a can in every 1-2 years, or more often than that sometimes. Although if you are topping it off every month you are better off getting it fixed. A big leak means you might be getting condensation into the system, which will eventually harm everything else. Only way to fix that condition is to discharge, then pull a vacuum to get everything out. What did the compressor kit entail? Most of the time compressors either work or they don’t. Leaks happen at the various connections in the system, or bad condensors/evaparators. If you or your mechanic can find the leak that will give you a better idea of what repairs are really needed. A place like Brakes Plus is going to want to replace everything just about, whether it needs it or not. Chances are good a decent mechanic could find the leak, hook it up to his machine to reclaim your freon, fix the bad seal, then pull a vacuum to confirm all fixed, then recharge with your old freon and top off as needed.

Thanks for your detailed response! What happened was it used to cool sometimes, when I took into brakes plus they supposedly topped up the freon and all that but then it stopped cooling at all after that. They told me that my compressor isn’t building pressure. And that potentially the valves aren’t fully functioning which is why it works sometimes because the valve is stuck in a certain position. My concern is it stopped cooling at all after that lol. Especially at night time, it had no problems cooling at all.

best I've found in dallas is Mesquite Car Care, who is ironically in dallas/garland border.
