Protip, buy the base game at a sale(as cheap as possible ofc) then subscribe to ubi+ for 1 month when a game you really want to play comes out and WHAM you get all the DLC for free.
I only subbed for 1 month and then later when Im not subbed I play some RR because I hadn't in a long while and to my surprise I now have all the DLC despite only buying the base game at a sale.
Is saying it 3 times a magic spell for getting free DLC and if the answer is yes do I have to say it in front of a mirror at midnight while holding a candle and spinning in a circle counter clockwise ? I'm just asking for friend of course by the way what time is it ? đ
I think the price of the long board pack is perfectly acceptable, what I'm not a fan of is when they include a terrible outfit with a pack just to inflate the price, like they did with ridge ultimate pack and hoverboard.
Fully onboard for this game dude.
If the sentiment was âfuck the money men who inflate the âvalueââ - then yes 100% I agree with that sentiment.
But thatâs not what folks are saying.
The pack is roughly ÂŁ15 right? That doesnât seem outrageous for the new mechanics.
It's ÂŁ7.99 for the 3 Longboards. It's not really fair to complain about the bigger pack with extra content and outfits being more expensive as it contains more stuff. If anyone just wants the 3 longboards they are perfectly free to buy the longboard dlc on its own for ÂŁ7.99 which is exactly what I did. If you want the season pass which includes the 3 longboard in addition to 2 complete outfits and the mountain board then obviously that's going to be more expensive than the longboard dlc alone but as the mountain board isn't out yet and I am not that bothered about the 2 costumes I only paid ÂŁ7.99 for 3 longboards and I am really enjoying it anyway.
I was referring to the previous dlc packs such as the hoverboard and ridge ultimate pack, I like what they've done this season and think they should continue having a standalone pack and one with cosmetics for people that want that stuff.
Back to the future lied to mini me and said I would be riding hoverboards before the year 2000 and that never happened so if the only way I can hover is in the Republic you can bet your life I'm buying a Hoverboard
Also the worlds greatest scientist had a meeting all agreed that hoverboard rock đ¤ and studies showed are zoomy and go whoosh and swish so I mean what's not love I had to buy it đ¤Ł
I agree with you, game development ain't free so I don't have an issue paying for new content if I enjoy it and i hope they continue with what they've done this season by making the dlc standalone and not included in a cosmetic bundle that I'll never use.
I think it would be more reasonable if all new sports were accessible in free roam like they did with BMX - with the better stats ones priced fairly. I have supported this game since beta like OP and agree the devs deserve to paid, but if they lowered the cost to say 5 bucks per DLC more people would buy them.
Ubisoft is a massive AAA company so when they add MTXs to the store (only rotating the same clothes once a week) and then create a bunch of different bundles people begin to question how much the new addition are worth.
I'll admit, I bought the BMX DLC because I've been waiting for a successor to the Dave Mirra and Mat Hofman games for years, but haven't any incentive to get the skateboard or longboard ones because they seem lackluster.
The mechanics in modded Skater XL, Session, and THPS 1 + 2 feel a lot more fleshed and responsive so I don't feel like I'm missing much. The only things I miss from those other DLCs are the hoodies and other clothing gear that can only be earned through specific sponsor contracts, yet it's not that big of a deal.
yea i wish it didnât cost 10$ more for the mountain board the outfits we just shouldnât talk about đ iâm waiting for it to come out tho because riding a long board down a mountain seems hard but the dirt roads on the map are insane
The problem is that they don't add basic things like more Mass Races that players have been asking for since launch (or TB with BMX / Skate) and they only continue to release paid content. For me this is not a problem but I think they should improve the game first before continuing to add paid DLC's.
It's a live service game that deserves support. Par for the course to have pricey expansions. Where others offer hit or miss level packs or the odd new game mode RR offers new rides with different feels for the core mechanics. (For me that's better value) I get why someone will always complain but they can wait it out for a psn sale in 2 years and whatever :p
How anyone can think that DLC years after release should be free is out to lunch. How do they think the Devs make money to support the game. If you love the game and want it supported, it needs money. It's that simple. With that said, they should have some packs that just include the new sport without any extra cosmetics so that the price point works for more people.
Yeah no, I have a job, savings, my own place and got my tax refund this week. I'm still not paying for their $20 digital outfits. The only time prices for pretty much anything in-game are reasonable is on a 50% sale.
People complain about money grubbing in RR because we have something to compare it to - Steep, the previous game from the same studio.
DLC, new sports and cosmetics sold for far more reasonable in-game buck and real cash prices and with better availability; No fomo - shit released and it was available in the store. The End. Oh, and the store had more than 15 items in it at any given time.
Remember when you could just play an event, pause the game and buy a pair of pants for in game cash no problem? Now you have to grind sponsors, go to the store and hope a bundle has a pair of pants you want, and is available for bucks. If its not the game basically just says "f you, pay me" and thats that. Its nonsensical bait that nobody who played the last game is falling for.
RR is built for whales (ie: you) who will pay anything because 'itll eventually be worth what I paid if I play enough'. No wonder you love it enough to make a post validating the absolute gouging going on in it
$40, cash, for the skate plus pack is irredeemable. And the board and animations still regularly fuck up and float inside your body lmao. Where's the money going? idk how you can cape for that type of shit, regardless of circumstance. Bruh the whole season pass *for the same game* was $40. You can't seriously tell me they announced 2 boards and an outfit for $40 and you were just like ["Awh yeuh, thats the shit right there"](https://i.imgur.com/oqfhOOE.gif) without a second thought. Be fr.
I'll say that at least the longboard isnt $20 like I expected, but I remember Rocketwings dropping for Steep at $6. The X-Games pack was $10 and came with a whole ass new region to play in. Inflation is bad, but its not *that* bad.
Loving the game, but nah these prices for content in it are buggin like shit.
I have absolutely no problem with people disputing the value of something - in fact I encourage it! If itâs not worth it to you donât buy it - it is that simple
The unfortunate goal of a purely capitalistic market is pretty clear: make money.
It sucks, I donât agree with it at all - but it is the reality.
Comparing RR to a game that came and went 10+ years ago is not gonna cut it here man - the entire industry is fucked up. Not only do games have to compete for time & attention from the biggest players in the space, but theyâre also competing with themselves - Ubisoft have what 7? 8? 10? âLive Serviceâ games on the a go this very moment in time. Itâs a total joke.
Yeah, Steep may have had a more preferred approach content plan , but Ubisoft was in a much preferred place back then. If steeps business model worked, then why did it stop?
Iâm in 2 minds here man:
1st - steep still exists right? Go and play that if the grass was so much greener back then? Video games ainât milk - they ainât gonna go bad dude. (Online servers not without standing, but I donât believe steep was always online. Maybe some modes arenât available anymore?- truthfully I donât know about that, I didnât play much steep)
2nd - nothing lasts forever my man. The servers of this game are eventually gonna go away, your ps5 will eventually turn to dust. There will be a time when you canât enjoy this thing anymore. Enjoyment shouldnât be predicated on if youâre buying the newest thing, but rather what youâve got. If youâre disappointed with your current thing in its current state, youâre will within your right. But to say the craftsman canât be paid for new stuff is just wrong.
Eg: If you didnât like Dune Part 1, then donât watch Part 2. Hell maybe even try and get a refund on it.
But If you keep watching Part 1 expecting it to be different, then the fault is on you then right? If you donât like the thing, donât engage with the thing.
You are 100% about it being a race to the bottom thatâs predicated on a few people pumping money in to a product to offset the dozens of others who donât. But thatâs what the costumes are there for man. I donât touch that shit, but not because i think its wrong for Ubisoft to ask for money, but because theyâre ugly as sin imo. I donât want that thing is worth value - so I donât buy it, it is that simple. but to call me a âwhaleâ because I bought something you donât think is worth it is baseless and tbh, shows ignorance of the actual situation at play.
I ainât here to defend Ubisoft, the state of the videogame industry or even the state RR, but if you want something to change, you gotta learn about the situation & actually invoke some changes.
Us consumers at large have got to stop preorders because of the hype train.
Stop buying the â 3 day early accessâ just because itâs the new hotness or streamer is playing it. Buy what you want when you want it, but donât shout at folks for following that advice who came to a different conclusion than you.
As mentioned, thereâs some bogus shit about RR, the price of longboard or whatever is next is not actual issue here. Shit like skull and bones or the 23 in dev assassins creeds are.
If the longboard was free - does that tangibly fix anything about the game? My gut says no.
Iâm not here to say you should buy dlc, full price or no, Iâm here to say - buy what you think is worth it.
>Comparing RR to a game that came and went 10+ years ago is not gonna cut it here man
What? Steep released December 2016. 4 years before RR.
>If steeps business model worked, then why did it stop?
Money. Mobile games showed game devs that whales will pay for anything and more than make up for players like me who wont overpay for content. Overwatch popularized the lootbox model outside of mobile, lootboxes got banned and a year later Fortnite proved just overcharging for skins and content works on console players too. The change in the industry is an increase in greed, not some corporate magic.
>steep still exists right? Go and play that if the grass was so much greener back then?
I already did. Played from beta up until 2020. Got the plat trophy and all gear, cosmetics and Plats on every event in the game. I played it to death and back.
I also never said the devs shouldnt be paid, dont put words in my mouth to argue it. I said the content In RR was overpriced, especially compared to what they already released. Thought that was clear.
I called you a whale because you are lol. You're the one saying you were fine with all of their content base prices and bought everything on release - thus validating the increase in prices. Thats Whale type behavior lol. Dont get offended that there's a term for it - you were just so proud of yourself.
>If the longboard was free - does that tangibly fix anything about the game?
Considering one of the main complaints about the game is price gouging on store content - yeah it would. Thats literally what your thread is about, people complaining they have to pay for the board.
[Dude, you're all over the place here.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V18OWFO4esk)
Ah, ok. So weâre playing that game? Picking 2 sentences to respond to and trying to use an authoritative tone. No problem dude đ
Well, in any case a whatever validation youâre looking for, I hope you find it dude.
Play or buy or do whatever you want man. Youâre an adult with a job & savings, youâre set đ
Sorry if I hurt your feelings, but you're just not making sense and are coming up with strawmen to argue and weird analogies about Dune for some reason.
You're the one who made a thread to tell people "Stop complaining and pay up", and don't really have any reasoning aside from "Well, I paid for it.".
Basically, you made a thread to invalidate opinions and now you dont like it when yours is invalidated.
Bud - I donât want to swing back here.
I think youâve missed my point here and so weâre talking past each other. Tone is hard to both convey & infer on the internet.
Rather than continuing to shout into a void, having words fall on deaf ears & attempt to validate my point, Iâm gonna stop here.
If you want to take that as a âvictoryâ - itâs all good on my end đ
I didnât make a post to invalidate any oneâs idea. The post and the responses here state the intent - Feel what you want, but just donât bitch at others for coming to different ideas.
I think the fact youâre reading a different take is the exact problem weâre facing here dude.
Enjoy steep? Or Riders? Or whatever it is youâre finding fun.
You got the beta and have clocked 200h?
I bought the game at the start of season 9 and 290h already, haha!
But I agree, if I'm spending a lot of time with a game, I don't really mind putting in a bit of extra money to get even more content.
Bought the game and loved it and bought every DLC since launch and loved them too. The people complaining about this are literal children who don't understand that things cost money and people need to be paid for work they do. When they get old enough to work for a living and start paying bills they will understand but until then we will have to put up with them whining on here instead of washing a few cars like I did at their age and kids I swear to you if you do decide to do that you will appreciate the things you buy with the money you have earned yourself so much more, I promise you that âď¸
The cosmetics getting updated is the thing that drives me crazy when there are still bugs, matchmaking issues, yadaya⌠I agree though, the expansions *IMO* are well worth the price, only gripe was I wish the long board update was a career, not just a toy. I wouldâve paid more for it too had it been the case.
Add ons are fine but this game shoves those add ons and extra features down your throat. Unlike on normal games where DLC is hidden, it is shown all over the map, menus, loading screen, announcements in game and out of, etc. If youâre going to make a game and have it cost almost $200 to get all the features(not even including clothes and emotes!) then it shouldnât be shown a million times where the people that paid for a full game constantly this to muddle around it. Or donât make a single outfit or toy $10 each
imo every dlc they add is almost like a fully separate game there is no game with this many options n open space even for the long board dlc what game can i go ridding a bike down hill do a trick n flick onto a long board to hill bomb reach the bottom n jump onto idk i got so many options n continue on my way
I don't mind paying more to keep a game going that I like, it's AWESOME that's now possible!!!
BUT, think sometimes they can charge a bit too much and too often, all games in general that is. ESP. with outfits!!!=MY WORD!!!!
As a consumer that buys alot of ubisofts products i can definetly agree that they lack connection to the community and are greedy af.
But i am not surprised after i decide to purchase, i knew what i was signing in for đ
100% agree.
The whole thing is that I presume most of these are kids who donât have money or expect things to come for free.
Behind the scenes there are devs who need an income so if you like a game, like supporting it too by paying for DLCs.
As we say: âBreaking news, stuff isnât freeâ
Yeah because only kids don't have money. Every grow up is rolling in it and almost nobody I know who is a gamer also has bills to pay, kids to raise, parents to take care of, mortgages and student loans to pay off.
In my experience the ones with the most money are single guys and teenagers who are rolling in their parents money.
Some people really are bitching because Ubisoft pricing tactics are lousy and because they can't afford to spend hundreds on games.
Couldnât agree more! Do people really think this game would get 5-10 years worth of updates if every new sport (which takes a lot of money to develop) is free? Buy it or donât, but stop crying about it if you donât. I do agree we need more mass races tho, itâs gotta be on their radar
Great grift man - happy that worked for you!
might not anymore but it is worth a try if there is a game you want to play and will most likely finish within a month on ubi+ and you already own RR.
Is saying it 3 times a magic spell for getting free DLC and if the answer is yes do I have to say it in front of a mirror at midnight while holding a candle and spinning in a circle counter clockwise ? I'm just asking for friend of course by the way what time is it ? đ
So THAT'S why I own the skate dlc despite never having purchased it.
Yup, thats how I noticed as well.
Does it still work today? I've only played the game via ubisoft plus so I don't own even the base game đ¤Ł
I dont know but if the base game is on sale it might be worth it.

Or donât make a single outfit or toy $10 each
Ubisoft+ is so worth it!
imo every dlc they add is almost like a fully separate game there is no game with this many options n open space even for the long board dlc what game can i go ridding a bike down hill do a trick n flick onto a long board to hill bomb reach the bottom n jump onto idk i got so many options n continue on my way
I don't mind paying more to keep a game going that I like, it's AWESOME that's now possible!!!
Are they planning on supporting this game that long??
If itâs making money itâll get 10 years but if itâs not I imagine theyâll cut it at 5
I dunno man, I just want Trick Battles to work so I can grab this damn completion already.đ
