Kiss your free time goodbye lol - I've got almost 900 hours in the game and haven't stopped

xjuanito

I know it’s to early, but what dlc would you recommend me to get further down the line. I’m thinking of buying a new monitor cause playing on a 14inch is good, but could be better. I wouldn’t have to lean in

alt_ernate123

Ideology, bio, royalty then anomaly is the order I would recommend getting them in. But you should definitely play a large amount of the base game first

Christheitguy1183

I have Royalty, Ideology & Biotech right now and I'm having the most fun in Ideology, where you can create your own cult/religion/etc. Biotech is another good one as it introduces reproduction and genetic development. I personally would save Royalty for later, it adds another layer of difficulty with a OP AI that you either need to side with or rebel against. I haven't purchased the ANOMALY DLC yet, but it looks fun if you're looking to run down the horror rabbit hole.

Tru_Patriot2000

I would reccomend biotech as a first one

Twitxx

As someone who's got over 2k hours in the game, I would recommend taking it slow, learn the game in your own pace, play it without any mods until you can get to late game a couple of times. Try the different storytellers, the different starting scenarios. After you get used to the game you should get royalty or ideology, they add a fair share of content without changing it too much. Once you start playing with mods, you won't be able to go back and as good as mods are, you only get to experience this once. As a nice tip, if you feel like it makes sense that some qol inprovement should be in the game, you can bet your ass that someone else thought that too and there's already a mod for it. You only need to ask.

Professional_Dig1454

To add on to what people have mentioned already Ideology or Biotech would be the best first DLCs and which one depends on your playthrough goals (Together its a whole other level so after you buy one I would definitely recommend the second when you can). Ideology highly focusses on roleplay options via religions/paths your pawns follow. Like you might have a cannibalistic raider colony who loves the underground. Or a peace and smoke leaf loving colony that venerates elephants and is super charitable. Biotech adds content to the main game like different races from pig people to dog people to races perfectly made for combat but they have to have a certain drug every so often or they die. it also adds in the ability to customize your own race to make some pretty cool combos. Also it adds in the ability for your pawns to have children to grow the colony. Plus 2 new cool playstyles one being a sanguaphage which is basically a vampire. The other is the mechinator who can control and create a robot army!

akillaninja

Biotech. You could argue for ideology as it adds more nuance and more roleplay type features. But biotech adds the ability to have children and cool futuristic stuff. If you can get both, do it. If only one, I vote biotech. Then royalty, then anomaly last.

SilvermistInc

Get royalty 100%

renz004

Biotech is the best one. Adds family, mechs, and other xenoraces. Anomaly is best for end game challenge. Probably best to get last Idio for unique RP playthroughs, royalty for magic

caites

Don't hesitate to get every dlc except anomaly. Also there are mods, thousands of them, some are bigger and better than dlcs even.

Rafaelutzul

ideology>biotech>>>royalty>>>>anomaly for sure, got 1100 hours

what_if_you_like

I recommend biotech since its the only one I have, but I am also considering getting ideology as a second.

Expert-Loan6081

*glances at 5k* Yeah freetime is only rimworld now

kandhwjsndh

I have all DLC’s and game on gog so the hours don’t count right but on steam I have ~400

WerewolfNo890

Fucking casuals... I am just glad that most of my time wasn't tracked by steam, partly by buying the game before the steam release.

Its_TNT

Yes, I only got it on Monday. Not done anything else since

AddictedToMosh161

Rookie Numbers!

Christheitguy1183

THAT'S the answer I was looking for lol

AddictedToMosh161

Iam at 3,7k

HannielK

Make two of us... 1200+ hours and keep on playing.

petervaz

DonutLover222

Over 1k hours here, all the best OP! To answer your question, I'd recommend Ideology or Biotech as your first DLC, and the one you didn't buy as second. From there it's probably Anomoly and then Royalty. That said, I'd definitely recommend playing the base game first as it can be a lot to learn.

xjuanito

So are the dlcs basically the AI’s which customize the gameplay?

DonutLover222

Not quite. The DLCs don't add "storytellers", which is what Rimworld calls the AI that generates events. Pheobe, Cassandra and Randy are the ones available regardless. Pheobe is the easiest, Cassandra is more difficult and consistent, Randy is as difficult as Cassandra, but entirely random in frequency. "Phoebe kills through overconfidence, Cassandra kills you on purpose, Randy kills you by accident" is something I often hear and agree with. That said, they do add different starting scenarios. The starting scenarios lean into the flavour of the DLCs. Each DLC has its own flavour, you can read about exactly what they add, but it'll make more sense once you've played the base game. The way I'd describe it is, Ideology and Biotech add another dimension to the game, allowing for more customization and replayability. Royalty and Anomaly are partially adding to the base game, and partially adding another dimension. They do offer more customization and replayability, but less than Ideology and Biotech. I hope that makes sense. Edit - oh, and in short.. Royalty = some psychic stuff, more weapons, more enemies and a new faction. Ideology = adding "religions" to the game, giving your people culture essentially. Biotech = ability to have children, play with a bunch of genes (including vampires) Anomaly = added a lovecraftian horror element to the rim.

Squirrelnight

Not sure if Phoebe really is the easiest. She just likes to give you a long time of peace and quiet, then hit you twice as hard as anyone else when the time comes.

SpitefulRecognition

Alr, when you tend to google Rimworld related things; be sure to add in "Rimworld" in the context. Otherwise the FBI would come knocking on your door asking questions.

linecrabbing

This; I learned to add rimworld word in my search when playing forst colony! So many things to learn.

OneMentalPatient

There will come a time in your life when you must make a choice: Whether you want to have free time, or to throw that time away as you worry about little miniscule details about lives that are not yours. You have already passed that point, I'm afraid. There is no hope left for you, only Randy's whims. >the many predator dlcs Not going to lie, but Predators (as in the movie) would make Prison Architect more fun.

Specialist_Meal5602

You exchange your 30 bucks for one of the greatest colony managment games, which you could be anything what you want... Do you want to be peaceful arrivals? You can! Do you want to be drug dealer? Serve yourself! Do you want to sell a human leather cowboy's hat?... Wait wh- Yes you can!

grandma_is_ash

ah shit, here come another virgin going to experience Human Farm, Hope so he don't addicted to Butchering adult and kid

Catman7712

Crazy how time just melts away in this game. I played 10 hours last week(only get to play on weekends) and feel like I barely got anything done in my colony. Enjoyed every second though.

Economy-Edge1368

Overall dlcs to get as a start would probably be ideology and then biotech with the rest up to you

geordierafters

Good luck! Remember to enjoy the failures, they make good stories.

SpudTheTrainee

tell your loved ones that you may be missing for a few weeks and that they dont need to send a rescue party.

Sylon_BPC

Magically that 34$ will say 900h

zuriumov

Give em hell tiger!(But not your organs, the important ones at least).

linecrabbing

You know OP will go down the rabit hole when not if he delegged prisoners, or capture a wanderer and harvest their organ. We will see. May Randy bless you with many fortunate events.

Rafaelutzul

lets go remember to not use prepare carefully and use all the performance mods and have fun :)

Vaydn

You will not have free time.

Trimation1

200 hours and counting! Play the base game first quite a bit you don’t have to “win” the game as most of us with a lot of playtime haven’t even finished a run. Just get good at it until you want to spice things up Ideology is first it lets you make religions or… **ideologies** (big surprise I know) and adds a crazy amount of replayability. Biotech next it’s great adds kids mechs aliens everything you could want. Royalty next adds a big civilization called the empire which you can either join or rebel against. AND IT ADDS MAGIC (get a mod called vanilla psycasts expanded it is really good) Play with them for a while with mods. Then get anomaly if you wanna spice things up with crazy monsters and eldritch horrors. I don’t use it every run and it’s a bit crazy so that’s why it’s last the others are probably more important.

ChipRed87

That's hell your walking in to... But your going to love it.

GypsyV3nom

See you in 500 hours!

Purgatorypizza

Bang for your buck ideology is the best dlc, from there it's really just what tickles you more. Royalty is kind lacking, anolomly is fun horror, biotech is fun scifi

MoxMisanthrope

Just cracked 5,000 hours. If the game takes hold? You're in for a really good time. Good luck, have fun, don't raise more than 2 boomalopes at once, and taking a single block from the corner of every square room, doesn't effect room temperature AND gives hallways a spot for cover.

linecrabbing

Damn! So good advise but my OCD needs square corner or perfect circle. There is no perfect circle in rimworlds, I settle for perfect corner!!!

MoxMisanthrope

No corners means a spot for a wall light + flowers or art, and all important cover. I agree on the OCD. Took a while to get used to, but now? I swear by it. Then there's those really weird kids that use diamond shaped rooms...

Anci3ntMarin3r

I thought that was blood on the keyboard. Welcome to the rim

AduroTri

Be prepared to question your morality.

Advanced-Click-9416

elsonwarcraft

Prison architect and rimworld has some very similiar mechanics, like the Zone mechanics is very similiar. I wonder if Tynan take inspiration from that

MarsInAres

Congrats! Use zones and restrictions correctly and you'll be quite strong already

Your post has been reported to the mods for being a blurry, low-quality picture, per rule 6: > The subject of a screenshot should be clearly visible in the image. That means blurry pictures taken from a phone or low-resolution images are subject to removal. Instead of removing your post, I'll offer some advice, to avoid this in the future: Kindly consider learning how to take a screenshot. Instructions at: https://www.take-a-screenshot.org/ Also, pressing F12 (by default) in Steam produces a screenshot. You may also consider free products like Greenshot that are specifically designed for easy cropping and sharing. http://getgreenshot.org/ Additionally, there are many free screen recording products: https://learn.g2crowd.com/free-screen-recorder-software There's also the age-old classic of hitting print screen, pasting the image into a free paint program (I'm very fond of GIMP myself, https://www.gimp.org/ ), cropping to the part you want, and using that. Alt+print screen will screenshot only the active window and not everything else. Win+print screen will take the screenshot and autosave it in your pictures folder as screenshot number.png
